Great location to explore east Cork. Recommend The Rock pub for a dinner close by.
Lovely old country house and surrounding buildings turned into accommodation. Very nicely furnished and comfortable beds
You need a car, nothing in walking distance
Nature around and singing birds.
I came 5 minutes to 7pm (in Booking.com the check-in time was until 19.00). I found the only reception called Drinks/Reception. Nobody was there, no light was there. The real reception was under the ground. I didn't expect it. Nobody answered the phone . Nobody was around. Finally my husband got through and the director Geraldine found me. She gave me a very old TRIPLE room instead of DOUBLE room which I booked. When I asked Geraldine why she gave me this room instead of my booked Double room, she said that all Double rooms were occupied. I booked it 5 weeks before travelling, why was my room occupied?! She said that it was misunderstanding. I didn't expect to get exactly the same room which photo was sent to me after the booking confirmation but I was expecting a normal looking DOUBLE ROOM instead of UGLY DATED TRIPLE ROOM FOR MYSELF ONLY! The Triple room was in a very old cottage with ugly roof walls inside, old windows, old furniture, one of the windows was not possible to lock. The beds were too high and uncomfortable because there were 2 mattresses one of them was constantly sliding down. The pillows were uncomfortable. The duvet was too thick for the summer, I was awake many times and sweating during the night. There were only 2 paper tissues left in the box. The coffee machine was not working right, only after the third capsule it made a little cup of coffee. The bathroom was tiny. In the morning at 6 a.m. I heard the neighbour next to my room talking on the phone. So the wall was quite thin. I didn't expect to get something like that, absolutely different from what I booked. On top of that I saw a big spider on my pillow in the morning. I couldn't stay there for my booked 2 nights, I left after the first night in the morning. It was the worse experience after my 26 years travelling in Ireland and other countries.
Beautiful Country House in a stunning location
Just had a issue with Bees in our room but once l informed the owner we were moved to another room without any issues at all. She was very understanding and obliging. Definitely recommend this place as a quiet , relaxing get away break. So close to everything too
Absolutely stunning place. The grounds were beautiful and I loved the room. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in and I loved having my own entrance and outdoor seating area. Such a relaxing and gorgeous place to stay. It's also right beside Ballymaloe House which I was attending for an event and could easily walk to.
The bathroom mirror was quite low and only 1 overhead light was working so it was difficult to do my make up, but not really a big deal, I just used a mirror in the bedroom.
Beautiful surroundings, great breakfast and lovely staff at breakfast.
Room was not clean, hairs on floor in bathroom very dusty and damp and ceiling in shower full of mold. I reached out beforehand to ask about wifi in the room (because i was travelling for work) and even-though i was told there was good wifi in the room, there wasn’t (i think the signal just doesn’t reach through the thick walls). I was supposed to stay for 2 nights but left after 1 and was kindly refunded the 2nd night as the room just wasn’t comfortable or suitable for me.
Breakfast & Lovely bedroom
A lovely site, great breakfast, friendly people. Cottage style accommodation in wooded surroundings, quite picturesque.
If you want a quiet stay as a couple or a family make sure to book when there isn’t a wedding on, as noise levels would seriously affect your experience. We stayed on a Monday night so no such problems.
Nice large room with a decent sized and well accommodated bathroom. Nice rural setting.
Very tricky to find. Parking was OK but if more rooms had been booked there could be a big problem.
Delicious breakfast
Grand old house full of character .Very good breakfast
Lovely location
Slightly run down on the paint and door lock and floor. There was a party going on right outside my door so jot so peaceful.
Breakfast very poor. lots of salty meat cooked not very well. we're all trying to eat more veg... but there were no veg very old-fashioned and expensive at E20. also kept awake by party next door,
Very Nice staff and an amazing facility.
The breakfast was excellent, the location was peaceful and I loved the bedroom.

Location
It's an old property which I had no problem with, it was that there was a musty smell throughout the property, our room had several cobwebs & layers of dust on furniture & coffee maker. The property has not been decorated in a long long time, it has been kinda been painted here & there by what I can only describe as by someone wearing a blindfold. It looks decent from the outside but inside it's a different story, we paid €220 for a double room including breakfast but this price was in no way justified for the standard provided
Very beautiful property, convenient location outside of Cork/close to Midleton
Might not be a good fit if you’re not into insects or spiders. Bees were swarming and establishing hives in the rafters outside the rooms, resulting in me getting stung walking into the room during check in. Room and bathroom had multiple spiders inside. WiFi advertised as good, but weak signal (only one bar) in our room that frequently disconnected.
Unique property, quirky in a nice way. The bed was so comfortable. Very clean and well decorated.
Nothing
The setting was amazing and the quirkiness of the rooms led to a fantastic break away from home. The hostess handled all things with professionalism.
Beautiful area. Quiet and well maintained. Bed was divine and bathroom well sized. Beautiful stay!
Unbelievable value and the room is so chique and bougée. Proper Nespresso machine along with an ironing board and iron.

We liked the location, the winding and tree lined approach driveway, the layout of fore courts at each level, the desk in reception, the dressing table in our room number 6. The bathroom/ shower room WHB & WC rather modern and swish. Nicely tiled. Surprised by accomodation for 5 people sleeping in this room. We need space for two only, bed was comfortable . Window shutters rather nice functional also. Accessibility was good for me I'm not good on my feet and walking. Room was warm. Room was quite. Parking good. Receptionist thorough, friendly and informative. We are so impressed by Geraldine Kidd's achievement we want an appointment, we didn't ask. However now want to come back for that reason alone. Amazing achievements and breadth of interes, please allow us an audience! Sometime. We would like to return, Ballycotten is a gem we have only discovered. Thank you.
We liked everything. There is a lag on hot water arriving at the tap. There is an ergonomic difficulty filling the coffee machine water container from the bathroom. We didn't try the kettle.
This country house hotel is charming and unique, though some of the rooms are adjacent to the main house, it all feels like you are staying in a good friend’s house. Each bedroom is different with pieces of furniture, furnishings and prints and pictures that bring an eclectic sense of style and comfort. The breakfasts are served in the main house which also exhibits a unique sense of style. A far cry from so many modern hotels in Ireland which all seem to be the same. I would recommend Barnabrow to anyone who respects individuality, enjoys beautiful surroundings and would rather read a book than watch a tv (there are none in the rooms….).
The young couple was warm and welcoming. Great breakfast!
Location was fine for where I wanted to be.
The room was not suitable for a cold day. The door and the single window has a lot of draft coming in. I have to ask for a heater where they kindly provided. I wanted to get an invoice when I returned the key but no one was around. They might say I can get it from booking.com but other places I have stayed has provided.
Beautiful rural setting miles from everywhere
Little
it was a magical place to stay
nothing it was a lovely place to stay
It was again a pleasure to stay at Barnabrow Country House. Breakfast was again excellent and delicious! A very nice place to stay - I can recommend it absolutely!
The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were so nice and helpful! The grounds are gorgeous and so was our room! Very clean and comfy!
Everything was amazing!
A very accommodating Hostess .. We arrived late and were greeted and warmly chatted to . location is stunning A Wonderful location to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life and relax Rooms were spacious well equipped with all amenities No tv which is a blessing as you don't need one as the location has too many stunning views to go exploring. Coffee and tea facilities were available along with ironing etc A lovely shower all amenities that you could want and such a comfortable bed!!!. Each room has it own characteristics which is truly something to see in person Unfortunately we didn't avail of breakfast but one can only assume it would be splendid had a peak at the restaurant
My only negative is I know we were late but I felt the rooms were bit cold and I couldn't get the heating going I'm sure if I contacted The lovely Hostess it would be sorted But the bed was so warm and cosy that it negates things
The bed was really comfortable and zero noise at night. Got a really great sleep. The room was spacious and had charm, if not a little old and dated. Beautiful donkeys are kept in the field as you drive up. Receptionist was warm and welcoming.
I found 100 euro per night quite steep for this room. The coffee machine did not work and there was also no fridge. I went during the summer so the price likely reflected that however during my two days I never saw another soul there and the only car parked in the massive carpark was my own.
Breakfast was good Location excellent
Had to climb a lot of stairs for elderly person
Breakfast was just perfect nice selection fresh fruit available and plenty of options to choose from Very friendly stuff, beautiful location
Almost everything
That is private
Sehr empfehlenswert.
Great location and the breakfast was amazing!
Nothing, it was all perfect
Love the place A bit of a journey from where ww were attending a wedding but nice all the same
Having to leave
Very comfortable bed, room was ready early which allowed us to get ready to attend wedding locally.
Nothing
Good location next to Ballymoe. Beautiful country side.
Nothing. All good.
Super location for my visit to Ireland. No more than ten minutes to all my visits
There was nothing I didn’t like, except it was tired, but it was a very old property . I thought it was a little expensive but I could be out of touch with prices today, and that Ireland has had a big boost in the area I went to.
Anna was so friendly and the location is superb
Everything. Nice, romantic room with canopy ( moskito net ). Plenty tea and coffee in the room. Spacious shower. Super clean. I've no words to describe how beautiful the gardens are ! Pure fairytale. Staff is fantastic, really polite and helpful. Absolutely stunning place to stay. I will definitely be back!
Old world charm. Furniture unique but chairs ‘not for sitting on.’ Function room very atmospheric
No fridge, no t.v., very poor wheelchair accessibility as I was attending my daughters wedding there & my sister who is disabled with M.S would not have been able to attend because of facilities. Staff were wonderful, can’t say same of proprietor!
Beautiful house in fab setting. Lovely room and very comfortable
Parking limited. If it was full and had to use carpark it’s quite a walk away especially if raining.
Heather the host was amazing I booked an extra room by mistake and she sorted it asap
Beautiful big bed, country style decor, coffee machine, cleanliness
Sprookjesomgeving
Sommige lichtschakelaars moeilijk te vinden
I loved this beautiful old country house.
I walk with a cane and it’s more challenging, but worth it.
A beautiful period house. All contacts with staff were very friendly and helpful
I would have liked to stay longer!
I booked the morning of our stay and everything was smooth with this property. Excellent communication, met on arrival as promised (although we were a little late) and given advice on how to get to our destination. We were within walking distance of Ballymaloe which was great as we were attending an event there! Beautiful grounds, friendly staff and quaint, clean room, we will be back. Water, mints and
No restaurants, pubs or bars (besides Ballymaloe) within walking distance...it is very much in the countryside.
Great breakfast, cosy rooms, a nice change to stay somewhere with character while travelling for work.
The host and staff were lovely, the breakfast exceptional, the, buildings, location and rural setting second to none. Parking was easy too.
I'm afraid the family room wasn't particularly comfortable, smelt really musty and was damp. There was mould on the walls and ceiling in quite a few areas, damage and additionally in the bathroom floor tiles were coming up, the extractor worked intermittently and the shaver point didn't work.
A beautiful room in a lovely setting. The house itself is beautiful. My room was gorgeous. Very big and very comfortable. The breakfast was also delicious.
It was quaint and picturesque
Nothing
Location, breakfast.
Whilst appreciate it is an old house, thick walls etc, there was no wifi available in the bedroom, only accessible close to carpark area. There was no TV either. As it was a business trip, it would have been helpful to know this in advance.
