I paid for this property but was told by the host that there is no room for booking.com. My money was gone. Booking.com refused to refund assuming the money had already gone to the host. I tried to contact the host many times on different channels but never got any reaction. Beware when you book this location that you may be paying for nothing.
Historic and beautiful house in a unique setting in tge Wicklow mountains. Lovely host, very relaxed and accommodating.
Shared bathroom was the only downside but totally understandable in a historic property like this.
Sean was so kind and had everything waiting for us. The bed was so comfortable.
What a wonderful hidden gem in the middle of the wicklow mountains. We loved our stay there!
Ocarujuce ubytovanie uprostred prirody. velmi mily pan, ktory nas obsluhoval. Sukromna vecera pri svieckach, vynikajuce vino, jedlo. Jednoducho super.
We had a fantastic stay here, wish now it had been for longer than one night! Stayed with my partner and our hound. Hosts are very welcoming, breakfast is delicious, comfortable rooms and beautiful grounds to explore. Very dog friendly! We will be back.
Sean and Patricia were the best! We had dinner there as well, and it was incredible. It was the highlight of our 1 month stay in Ireland. Some of the kindest and most interesting people on or trip.
Absolutely nothing. I wish we would have had a couple additional nights. The grounds are stunning.
This a different experience which is more like staying as a guest in a country house. Food great. Atmosphere fab and views gorgeous.
If you are looking for an anonymous hotel or functional stay this is not for you but it is a lovely experience and getaway.
First class !
This home and property is such a special place. Our walk about upon arrival was a highlight of our trip-the bridge and waterfall, wow! Such a cool historic home. Reading by the fire after a trip to the lovely pub about 15 minutes away was a delight.
The mattress was a bit wonky.
Ambiance inoubliable. Propriétaires très attentionnés. Breakfast grandiose. Cadre idyllique.
Rien
An extraordinary house, the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. Exceptionally good breakfasts, and wonderful hosts. We really enjoyed meeting the other guests, many of whom were young hikers on the Wiklow Trail.
Hard to think of anything.
Bed is geweldig.
Very nice old house with beautiful furniture and garten, very helpful landlord
Temperature is not stable and heating systems makes noise because very old heating system
Lovely garden and beautiful home
Prachtig oud landhuis, schitterende locatie. Ontbijt in prachtige oude stijl. Zeer gastvrij ontvangt.
Koud in huis.
We liked nearly everything: The owner Sean, the history of the 1890 house and estate, the quiet sizable suites with blackout curtains, (though no ensuite baths), the hike around the 20 acre estate, the 2 donkeys, the simple and delicious breakfast, and getting to meet others on holiday. Also, the GMO Free status.
The estate is a little tricky to find without GPS. Look for the GMO Free Zone sign just after the entrance gate.
Wunderschönes, geschichtsträchtiges Anwesen, was keine Wünsche offen lässt.
Beautiful former hunting lodge, a building with lots of character.
It was so nice the house the suspension bridge across the street into the forest with a waterfall. And the huge concrete plunge pool along side the river. Made me very envious. I don’t usually covet other people’s stuff. BUT I wish I owned that place!!!
Beautiful surroundings and decoration. Great host that provided local tips that made our stay even better. Dog friendly.
Nothing
Beautiful house,high standard accommodation.
Printed map would have been a wise choice on our part as cannot rely on Google map in such isolated area .
Fantastic host, welcoming, thoughtful, and caring. The lodge itself is stunning and surrounded by nature, including a 10/10 donkey who likes an ear scratch. Everything was perfect and I could have stayed much longer.
Lovely remote location; ideal for walkers; our small dog was made very welcome; superbly comfy beds; fine linen & towels.
We knew this before booking so not a problem for us but if anyone can’t do stairs it’s not the right place as the 2 shared bathrooms (one with a bath, the other with a shower) are on a different level across the hallway - depending on which of the fabulous bedrooms one is in. It’s an amazing, comfortable, well maintained period home.
Beautiful location
Shared bathroom
Ballyteige Lodge is such a special place. The house is beautiful and the setting/ location is magical too. It's like stepping into the pages of something out of an interior design feature. I just loved it. Sean was a very attentive, friendly, helpful and interesting host. This is not a hotel so don't expect that kind of experience and it reminded me of the Bed and Breakfasts I stayed at in my youth only a million times better. I thought that the breakfasts were very good and the evening meal, shared with other guests, was really enjoyable too. This was a unique experience and I feel honoured to have had the pleasure of staying here and really hope I'll make it back again one day.
Very special place to be, super beautiful with great accommodation! Bring time to enjoy the calm and stay longer than two nights as we did!
The location was amazing with beautiful scenery. Right on the Wicklow way, it was ideal place for hiking and to explore the grounds. The room was lovely and the food great. Sean was a fantastic host.
Beautiful atmospheric property, extremely friendly host, wonderful setting, great breakfast.
Hadn’t appreciated when booking no en-suite facilities but not really an issue for us
Unique family managed property, beautifully appointed house set in large gardens
Sharing bathrooms was a little inconvenient
Beautiful house in a beautiful location; the food was amazing
The lodge is set in beautiful gardens. Very peaceful and relaxing. Inside is full of books and curiosities. The bed was very comfortable and meals were delightful. There is a small outdoor freshwater swimming pool, great for a quick dip. Beautiful stay.
Special location. Stayed here for a wedding in Brooklodge and location was perfect. The lodge has serious character and the gardens are spectacular. The host Sean is very accommodating and even gave us a lift to the wedding venue.
Superb location, lovely food, genial host
My goodness, where to even begin ! First , this is Not a hotel , nor is it a ‘B&B’ . This is a grand ole home that the owners have graciously opened to the public - on a small scale . If one is looking for the latest greatest ‘comfort’ bells and whistles , do not come here : there is no cafe on-site , there is no restaurant , no 24-7 at the beck n call ‘service’ . Instead , this grand ole home has the patina of History , a dining room where once upon a time Michael Collins visited ( and so much more ! : Sean with a lifetime of experience and stories can relate the unparalleled history of the property — dating back to 1800’s — in a spellbinding way ) . The whole building is filled with a well-curated collection of historical furniture and arts , decoration : yet accessible and free to enjoy : an afternoon tea in the drawing room ; the lush grounds that were established in 1920’s , the Japanese Garden . : And yes , the beds are comfortable ; rooms impeccably clean and cared for . There is no dinner on command , but if the property happens to be at full capacity ( 6-8 persons ) , the option of dinner Is available : and very well worth to partake . Patricia’s culinary talents and creations are well restaurant worthy ! It was a brilliant time to enjoy the company of happenstance dining companions : some from overseas on an Ireland tour to continue their roadtrip the next day , some hikers off The Wicklow Way which is just up the road . Great to exchange stories over a delicious meal . I , myself just wanted to needed to get away from the city for a spell with my two little dogs - looking for quiet and tranquility , I could not have picked a better place : Sean a most gracious host making sure I am well looked after while allowing me ample opportunity to just enjoy my time without interference or interruptions . Truly a joy . A quiet understanding , I felt as if a houseguest for a few days’ visit . Remarkable .
Could not have asked for a better suited few days away .
As anticipated, the location was a woodsy, natural location away from any city or village. We enjoyed following a stream to a waterfall on the property and just having a pleasant walk in nature. Our host Sean was pleasant and served a good breakfast, eggs, yogurt, cereals, juice, toast, tea and coffee. The room was adequate and had a charm reminiscent of a bygone era. The grounds are well-kept and with flowering plants and shrubs everywhere. Rescue donkeys paid us a visit in the morning. The nearest and only pub/restaurant in Glenmalore is about 15 Km away. We had eaten before arrival and did not check out the local pub.
There are two bathrooms that are shared. One has a tub but no shower and one does have a shower. Everything seems well-maintained, but nothing is new or modern. The 8/10 rating takes into account value proposition.
Everything about this place was good!
Nothing I didn’t like about this place.
A very unique location and accommodation. A beautiful base for a walking holiday.
A beautiful house, comfortable bedroom, Sean was a great host and we got delicious breakfast in the morning.
There was no hairdryer, but we did not ask for it explicitely.
The Lodge is full of character, lots of history, and it is set on stunning land. The private forest area is absolutely beautiful, with waterfall, little bridges and a fire pit. Sean was a great host, friendly, helpful, and had a wealth of knowledge. Thanks for a great stay would definitely go back!!
Claude, Louis (donkeys).
Nothing
Fab walks & lovely house , great welcome
The property is located in a very remote area, and is absolutely sensational! Everything exceeded our expectation. The property has a massive garden with a beautiful natural waterfall flowing through the passing river.

Sean is a great host and generous with his time. We were given recommendations on where to eat and walks to try in the area. The property is fabulous and steeped in history.
The history the interior. It was fascinating!
Nothing I lived everything
We had a really great stay. Sean is a wonderful host and the bed was extremely comfortable!
Stunning house, Sean is a great host, the food is homemade and very good.
The house and grounds are beautiful and full of character. The owner took time to tell us all about the history of the house and interesting places to visit in the area.
The owners were super friendly and generous with their knowledge and advice. The beds were super comfy. We should have booked for two nights to give us a chance to wander the beautiful land. The breakfast was great.
Beautiful grounds, delicious food, cute donkeys!
The house and grounds were really nice so private . Breakfast really nice host very friendly
Beautiful house with stunning gardens. Great breakfast in sunny room.
Sharing a shower with other guests
Gorgeous old house full of history and character in lovely grounds and fabulous surroundings. Excellent food and great information on local history and amenities. Host is a real raconteur. ...and 2,rescue donkeys in the front paddock add to the restful atmosphere....
Not wild about sharing a bathroom but apart from that nothing really.
I loved the house, fabulous decor, grounds etc. Séan and Patricia were wonderful hosts.
Would have liked an ensuite but fully appreciate it is a wonderful old house. It certainly didn't take from the experience of staying at the great venue.
Breakfast good but opportunity for fruit would have been good. Evening meals were excellent.
Bathroom facilities were under pressure on one night with eight in residence
Amazing stay! Dinner (,wine) and breakfast was incredible!
Breakfast good Feel of history in house was superb Owners very friendly. gave excellent tips as to where to eat out
Nothing really. Didnt expect Travelodge type of hotel so very happy
Sean maintains a stunning home in the most delightful location in Wicklow. The rooms are very spacious, and the beds very comfortable. Felt right at home.
Beautiful estate, very quiet, host suggested we visit the woven mill and it was a fantastic time
No cell phone service except through the estate WiFi
The house is beautiful, the setting is marvellous, the host is very friendly and can recommend things to do in the area. We had a walk around in the garden and a (very cold) dip in the small river nearby. We opted to join the 3-course dinner, which was delicious, reasonably priced, and gave us a chance to meet the other guests and have an enjoyable evening together. The bed is comfy, the breakfast was lovely as well, with scrambled eggs and yoghurt. The conservatory is a lovely place to read a book or have coffee. There is plenty to do in the area. The absolute bonus for us was how welcome our dog was. It is not always easy to find a nice location to stay or a place to eat where you are allowed to bring a pet, but this is no problem at all at Ballyteige lodge. Our dog, a little old lady, was greeted with enthusiasm and we felt comfortable having her with us throughout our stay, for which we are very grateful.
I can't think of anything.
Wonderful welcome by Sean and Patricia who turned this place into a unforgettable experience ! Lodge is vibrating with history and surrounding (gardens & forest)is breath taking and magic !
It sat in the middle of the wicklow mountains with some of the lovely scenery in Ireland but the facilities need updating to it a perfect place to stay sorry to say these things but because the person who owes is a fantastic person
Shaun the host was wonderful. Looked after me very well and made sure i was happy with my visit. Great place to stop off at
Beautiful house, beautiful garden and we were made to feel very welcome. The evening meal was exceptional.
