The Unmad - Dharamkot

The team is just outstanding. The man and woman running the place are just amazing and so helpful and so are the people in the kitchen. Just be prepared for some step climbing which in the beginning looks a bit too much but you get used to it.

ניתן לשפר נקיון, כללית ובעיקר חדר מקלחת.

זה בית! מרגישים פה בבית מיד שתכנסו. אנחנו היינו יומיים פה ואז ירדנו לבגסו - וחזרנו. כי אין על המסעדה פה ועל האכפתיות של הצוות. מיקום טוב ממש! מצד אחד 5 דקות לבית חב״ד וההמולה. ומהצד שני שקט ונמצא למעלה יותר יותר.

The king Mountain View bedrooms are directly below the common area and therefore it can be quite loud in the evening

אהבנו את המיקום ואת הנוף, את חדר ההסבה המקסים ואת האוכל. החדר היה גדול ומרוהט, עם חלון גדול לנוף ותאורה מספיקה גם בשביל לקרוא בלילה.

דלת החדר הייתה קצת קשה לפתיחה ולסגירה, והיה ריח לא נעים בחדר האמבטיה.

If you want to feel at home and if you want to have healthy home made food- this is definitely a place for you..a library full of different books,board games,very sweet staff and genuine and heartwarming owner and situated on a hill with beautiful views with walkable distance to all art classes and vegan and vegetarian restaurants -all in all I felt like its a home away from home..I would definitely go back 🥳💃🥰..strongly recommended if you are travelling to dharamkot

Quite steep stairs to reach the hotel, but not a problem.

Food in the place is absolutely great, they have kitchen that can be used to order food during the day. Beds are also very comfortable and helped us sleep well. Location wise it's in the quite area comparing to rest of Dharamkot. Also everyone was very helpful for us. Rooms are well equiped, with kettle, large area where you can do yoga, towels, shower gels etc. We enjoyed our stay in Unmad and I'd likely come there again if I visit Dharamkot.

Rooms could use a bit of renovation, especially bathroom. A bit further from Dharamkot city center and Mcleodganj.

Nice staff. Very available for everything.

Läget var helt underbart, vilken utsikt! Roomservice var inget problem när man kände för att sitta på balkongen och äta där. Chris och Apana är närvarande och hjälpsamma så nu vet jag vad som menas med "Homestay" det kändes som hemma. Åt de flesta måltider i restaurangen där jag hade fina möten med andra resenärer. Deras 5 hundar var en del av gemenskapen. Unmad är ett härligt ställe att komma tillbaka till efter att man varit i Mcloudganj tex där det är trångt och bullrigt. Hoppas komma tillbaka!

Tyckte om det mesta, var lite jobbigt för knäna att gå uppför trapporna eftersom jag tidigare suttit mycket, men vill man ha den fina utsikten så....

As the property is quite isolated high up in Dharamkot it is peaceful and quiet. The rooms are basic but functional. The food was all delicious and very reasonably priced.

I didn’t mind all of the steps you need to climb to get to the property but if you are not very fit you might struggle with them. The pillows did not offer much support for my neck.

The location was amazing with beautiful views. The personal is very kind and helpfull.

I wish I'd realised how steep it was to get to the hotel. It was good exercise, but I was glad to get on level ground.

宿からの景色がよく，また静かなことから，日常から離れゆっくりできました。食事も美味しく，清潔感があったこともよかったです。

マクロードガンジの喧騒とは無縁である一方，徒歩では不便なこと，また施設内は階段が多い点がややしんどかったです。良かった点を考えると，トレードオフかなと思います。

This is a great place to stay in dharamsala, the rooms were very comfortable and the food served from the terrace was affordable and tasty. The staff have created a very nice vibe here!

Great access and yet tucked away. Beautiful guest house and Krishan and tram are excellent hosts!

The staff here are great, so welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed and great for those seeking a more calm vibe than other places in Dharamkot. The common area/restaurant was also lovely

My only complaint was I found the beds quite uncomfortable - too hard for me, but I did come back here a second time as the other aspects made up for it

The room is spacious.. and the view of the Himalayan cedar trees is breathtaking. The quietude of the early mornings in the heart of the mountains is absolutely memorable. Staff is extremely accommodating and addresses concerns promptly. Thank you.

The food in the kitchen is just ok not as impressive as the others commented. It’s quite a distance from other restaurants and shops. Also, my room was located below where the kitchen is. Hence, kitchen noise can still be heard quite disturbingly while people are clearing up at around 10pm.

breakfast has many options in meniu and it is tasty prepared. location ir perfect, calm, you can have beautifull view from window, sky and a picks of pine trees

price could be less, but staying was comfortable and beautiful, food was very tasty, staff carefull and helpfull

Beautiful location and views from the hotel! Our room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful, giving us great advice for hiking and the Triund hike. We ate at the hotel most meals and it was delicious.

The hot water doesn’t last very long compared to other places we’ve been and the wifi from the lower rooms was quite hit and miss. But only minor things!

It was beautiful and amazing - I felt so relaxed there and the hosts make you feel so welcome. I am really glad I found this place and missing it already! I would love to return one day. Thank you to everyone at the Unmad - ohh and the food is great aswell! Sending love from Scotland x

The Unmad er et virkeligt enestående sted, smukt beliggende op af bjergsiden med udsigt ned over dalen. Aparna og Krishna som har stedet, er de mest hjertelige og hjælpsomme værter som man overhovedet kan forestille sig og de vil gøre alt for, at man har et godt ophold. Jeg glæder mig til at komme tilbage. Stor anbefaling herfra!

Great location to walk the Triund trek. 40 minute walk to the Dhalai lama complex. Great atmosphere and lovely area to sit on the terrace. They have several friendly dogs who were immediately friendly with our dog! The rooms were really nice and clean and well done. Staff are lovely and helpful

The food was a bit bland for us. There was no heating in the rooms and they charge for mobile heaters, its not a lot of money but considering the cost of the rooms I really think these should be free.

I liked everything about it: the view, the location, and especially the staff. Everything was perfect and I hope I can go back one day :)

Everything about our stay at The Unmad was incredible—it was truly a highlight of our trip and far exceeded our expectations. Staying here felt like a dream come true. The location is perfect for exploring Upper Dharamkot, Dharamkot, McLeod Ganj, and Dharamshala. You can easily walk to Gallu Waterfalls or Triund from the property. Getting around is simple—whether you prefer walking or taking inexpensive cabs and rickshaws. The nearby Tushita Meditation Centre, with its peaceful library, cozy cafés, and fantastic restaurants, is a must-visit. The Unmad itself offers amazing food and stands out for creating a truly memorable experience—not just a place to sleep. Their bakery/café has a warm, welcoming vibe, stunning views, and a cozy atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Highly recommend the cooking classes there! There are also opportunities for a head massage and foot massage as well as yoga classes which is fantastic too!

Everything was great

Aparna and all the staff were really welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, with a varied and tasty menu, and lots of suggestions of things to do around Dharamkot. The room was comfortable and well-equipped, with great views across the valley. Would definitely recommend the Unmad if you are coming to Dharamkot, but if coming in winter, it can be very cold!

This place is something really special, mostly thanks to the host, who is incredibly warm, caring, and goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable. The location is peaceful and quiet, surrounded by mountains, with absolutely stunning views that make you feel instantly relaxed. The food at their café is delicious, honestly some of the best we had, especially momos, and the staff are just as kind and welcoming as the host. If you need anything at all — laundry, small requests, or help with anything — the host is always happy to assist. It’s the kind of place where you genuinely feel looked after, and I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone.

The only small suggestion would be to make the rooms a bit warmer during colder seasons, for example by improving insulation, as nights can get quite chilly. That said, heaters are provided, and this didn’t affect our stay at all. Everything else was so wonderful that I left feeling completely recharged, full of energy, and with memories I’ll never forget.

As a single female traveler, I felt really comfortable at the Unmad. There is a lovely, welcoming ambience with like-minded travelers who are friendly and happy to chat. I stayed there for 6 nights and the food was yummy:) I like that the kitchen opened at 8am (great for early birds like myself) It was also a pleasure to chat with Krishan and Aparna each day - they are the cofounders and their hard work and dedication for the Unmad really shows:) lovely stay!

Stunning property and the hosts were even more amazing! So friendly, so helpful, tasty food and clean bathrooms and rooms. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a chill vibe!

Our stay in Dharamkot was so wonderful. Big thanks to Aparna, Krishna and the whole Unmad Team for their kindness and helpfulness! Also the food was amazing, lots of options, healthy and fresh. Make sure to try the malai rolls for dessert :) We will be back for sure!

Établissement très bien exposé au soleil. Chambre propre, et spacieuse, avec balconnet. Très agréable pour un séjour. Service de laundry possible. On recommande.

Point négatif si vous avez peur des chiens. Trois chiens sont en garde de l'établissement et peuvent se montrer imposants. Nous avons été également dérangés par les aboiements toute une nuit.

Superb location! Aparna & Kishen were amazing - exceptionally helpful, warm & had a ready smile for all their guests! The restaurant dished out tasty dishes! I really liked the place & would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone travelling to Dharmkot!

I personally did not have an issue with it, though the property is accessed by quite a few steep stairs & could pose a challenge to some! Sure is not wheelchair accessible.

Lovely setting and views are incredible. The food is really tasty and the communal eating area makes for some excellent conversations. My wife was unwell when we arrived due to the altitude and the manager was very kind and attentive

I had such a great stay at the UnMad! The location is amazing, the food was delicious, and the host was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Everything felt easy and welcoming — a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the area. I definitely recommend it!

Just a 10-minute walk from the hustle and bustle of Dharamkot, the perfect spot for anyone looking to relax and enjoy some quiet without being too far from town.

Die Lage oberhalb von Dharamkot ist wunderbar ruhig und man hat eine tolle Aussicht. Aber das besondere an “The Unmad” sind die Mitarbeiter. Besonders die Chefin gibt jedem Gast das Gefühl zuhause zu sein, sehr warmherzig und aufmerksam. Wir hatten Frühstück und Dinner im Restaurant, alles sehr lecker und frisch zubereitet. Ich würde jederzeit wieder im “The Unmad” übernachten und gerne auch länger bleiben.

We have sayed at the UnMad for two weeks. Our expirience was so enjoyble and great, not only because of the quite location, special atmosphere and the best kitchen around with rich, tasety and diverse menu. What made the stay even more special was the energy and inspiration of the owner in her presense, advice help and service to all our requests. We felt at home with a motivation to come back again. Yes, some steps to climb...but it is definitly worth it!

too many stairs. im in good shape but it was hard even for me. the room wasnt been clean properlly before our entrance.. there were bugs in the bed and i even got stunged in the middle of the night by one of them.
