Amazing view from the bedroom and Elizabeth was really friendly. The bed was really comfy and we had everything we needed in the room. The chickens were an added bonus! The unfinished road wasn't a problem
Unfortunately one of the days it didn't stop raining and the main part of the kitchen is a few steps outside. This added to the quirkyness but not good if you wanted to cook using more than a microwave It wouldn't stop me returning tho
Dejlig, velindrettet hytte med fuldstændig fantastisk smuk udsigt over flod, bjerge og skov. Hyggeligt med besøg af høns på terrassen. Helt stille man hører kun fuglesang.
Man skal køre af snoet, smal grusvej for at komme til stedet, (enten 10 km grusvej til hovedvej eller 5 km grusvej + færge).
If you’re looking for a secluded, quiet spot on a hilltop surrounded by native bush with an incredible view of a tidal inlet, look no further. The place has everything you need, from coffee pods to electric blankets. It’s cozy, cute, and so peaceful you can hear your own breath at night. I even heard a kiwi call—or was it a mad cow? They sound surprisingly similar! Russell is just 20 minutes away, and friendly chickens will pop by to see if you have snacks. A charming New Zealand slice of heaven.
Absolutely beautiful little corner of the world, me and my boyfriend loved this place. Elizabeth was so friendly and so we're the chickens. Felt very private, we're able to cook and relax whilst also being a good distance from Paihia and Russell for our day trips. Definitely recommend - 5 stars
Stayed for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The location is very secluded and peaceful and the view is just amazing. The room/ sleep out in itself was wonderful too - very cozy and well equipped.
the magnificent nature surrounding the accommodation a great hostess
no fly screens available
It is a rustic farmhouse style, with chickens at your door LOL. The view was absolutely amazing!! FreeView TV and Wifi was consistent and strong. While kitchenette is small, self contained and private, there is access to a full kitchen cabin and extra double room available.. Main room was more than large enough for two people. Comfy bed and plenty of power points. Plenty of sunlight and parking at door. Did I mention the view? There are walking trails around, but next time I plan on sitting on the deck, glass in hand with a good book or movie!! Elizabeth is friendly, approachable and a great host.
Most of the road to Waikare Valley is shingle and single lane in parts so be careful, but I would definitely return. The bathroom floor / toilet may need reinforcing in next few years.. need another handle when stepping out of shower as it’s quite a drop for old knees. Need to book longer stay.
Lovely host, great view, self contained kitchen in a quaint cookhouse. Loved the chooks and the view as the sunset.
Just make sure you bring your food.
Beautiful location with stunning view. Peaceful and quiet.
Spacious cabin at a lovely location somewhat off the beaten track offering beautiful views of the bay. Elizabeth was a very helpful and accommodating host. The place has everything you might need and was easy enough to find.
Elizabeth’s place is like New Zealand paradise - from the moment when we entered through the gate - we loved everything maximally!
No complaints at all..
Super cute place to stay, great for couples. Has everything you need. Elizabeth was a great host.
I loved everything. Location was perfect for the event. Hospitality was just enough. Clean and tidy. Very tranquil. Had the essentials of what you would expect.Definitely recommend to all.
???
Have already cometed review. Loved the space. Was such a beautiful place.
Nothing
Peaceful, quiet & quirky but very comfortable accommodation with splendid views over Waikare inlet. Friendly & generous host. Very well equipped.
Small size of spaces might not suit everyone especially for longer stays. Separate cooking/dining cabin - though only a few steps away - might not have been so much fun in poor weather.
Beautiful place to stay. Definitely recommend and will definitely return.
There was nothing to dislike. We were very satisfied with the accommodation and the amazing views.
Highly recommend this really beautiful place to stay. It's just perfect 🥰. Thank you so much Elizabeth . Your accommodation is one of our top spots.
The surroundings are tranquil. The view looking down to the inlets is inspiring. Great star gazing at night. We woke up to the birdsongs and had a peaceful breakfast while birdwatching on the patio. The separate “cookhouse” has a lot of charm. If it has been a rainy day, I would have a coffee and read a book here. Elizabeth is very thoughtful and caring. She provides adequate and quality items in the guest house. We completely enjoyed our stay and will not be hesitant to come back again.
Nothing. The unpaved road might be a concern for some but our midsize rental car drove fine on that road in and out. If you don’t mind this, you will be rewarded with this amazing space.
Elizabeth created a very lovely place. We were more than thrilled to stay in this special environment. The view is breathtaking as well as the lovely put together accommodation!
Gorgeous location, beautifully kept bach with stunning view, very quiet and relaxing
Nil, the road in is windy and unsealed so be prepared for that. No fault of the property
The location is stunning, and Elizabeth seems to have thought of everything in terms of the facilities and little details.
Can’t think of anything.
We enjoyed our stay and I would recommend it to others if you like being out in nature and peaceful environment. It’s 30min to Russell and out in the bush. Beautiful views. Bed was comfortable for us. Coffee machine available. Very clean. We were also allowed to bring our little dog with us which was appreciated. Kitchen has most things to make a meal.
Location might be remote for some - it’s gravel road and nothing around but it was fine for us. Shower / sink drain smells in the bathroom.
Elizabeth was the perfect host Views were exceptional and the property was so tranquil
Such a stunning place and with the most lovely owner who is so welcoming... Lots of hard work has gone into this little slice of paradise we love it here . Peaceful with views to die for. Just breathtaking and our 2nd time back. Comfy bed and not too far from Russell .
We had a fantastic stay at Taranaki. The bach was clean and tidy, well equipped, very comfortable, and well located for trips to Russell, Paihia, and Waitangi. The self-contained apartment is in a quiet location with beautiful views over the inlet below. Elizabeth was the perfect host, making us feel comfortable, chatting about the area, and leaving us in peace to enjoy the environment. We loved everything about it!
We liked everything.
What a gem! The location was stunning with nature surrounding us. The view was amazing. We were warmly welcomed and supplied with everything we needed. Quality items supplied. Would definitely recommend. The host was friendly and approachable. The kitchen area was a lovely place to eat and hang out to watch the sunset. Very peaceful and relaxing place.
Nothing. It was perfect 👌
Cosy, beautiful outlook, great bed, lovely host
Beautiful view Kitchen had everything we needed to make a nice meal. Breakfast Bar looking out onto the Waikare Inlet was great!
dodging chicken poo around the deck in the morning. but that's being critical.. didn't bother us at all. more of an observation.
Lovely welcoming owner who cooked a great breakfast for us despite us leaving early in the morning for a hike. Great peaceful place to stay with amazing views.
Really enjoyed our stay here! Full equiped cottage with awesome view! Amazing breakfast - very nice host. We definitely come back.
Spectacular coastal view from the deck and a great spot to relax in. Lovely cosy cottage equipted with everything you need. Loved the hot breakfast, yummy bacon & eggs and toast!
Everything from the amazing views to the peacefulness of nature to our beautiful kind host and delicious breakfast and chats we miss you Beth defs be back up again and we cant wait
Not looking up the roads before heading up as stated 18ks worth of gravel not good for a race car but defs loved Beth for offering her car to go out
This is our second time staying here. Elizabeth is a wonder host, the space has everything you need. An amazing view, peace and tranquility, Netflix, a comfy bed, a coffee machine and a home cooked hearty breaky with all the sides. It's an absolutely wonderful space to get out of the hustle and bustle of busy life and relax. No doubt we will be back again.
We loved everything ❤️
We are so glad we stayed at Taranaki. It is so peaceful with a wonderful view. We loved sitting on our veranda for breakfast. Our host was very helpful and recommended a lovely (though quite challenging) walk to an old whaling station.
The only thing to bear in mind is the unmade road. We approached from the south so it was quite a long way along the unmade road. It would probably have been better to approach from the north (Russel direction). It was worth the drive though and we are very glad we stopped there.
Everything, accommodation, location, Liz, if was awesome
Leaving
The View is just amazing. The Apartment is lovely, clean and equipped with everything you can ask for. Breakfast was served on request with fresh, homemade ingredients. A fantastic place to relax.
Such a beautiful little spot in the middle of nature. If you need to relax, this is the place to be. You don't need a TV when having the view above the delta from your own balcony and bed. The chickens also come and say hi and the next morning you get a beautiful breakfast by Elizabeth with eggs from the happy chickens.
Beautiful place to stay.
The peacefulness and stunning location, The breakfast, the lovely host Elizabeth. Highly recommend
Peaceful and quiet location. The view was amazing and we enjoyed the stroll down through the native forest to the waters edge. Breakfast was amazing and the host was great. Loved the chickens coming to visit. Thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful getaway.
We loved everything
There was everything to like about this venue. I rate it my best stay in NZ so far in 2 months. I would urge all to experience it for themselves.
There was nothing that I did and could not like. Well done in providing such a comfortable stay and the breakfasts were REAL breakfasts and devine.
room had everything, bed very comfortable, all of a very high standard.
it’s 5 km down an unsealed road which can be off putting if arriving late / in the dark
Had a wonderful stay at this beautiful and very welcoming bach/accomodation. Even though it is "off the beaten track" it is well worth the drive. Elizabeth is an excellent host and I will very happily return on my next trip to the Bay of Islands area.
It was by far the best accommodation I've stayed in northland. Awesome Bach, peaceful, quiet, private and safe. Amazing view and awesome walking around the property. Elizabeth is an amazing human being with great cooking skills. Now that I'm back, my boyfriend went out to buy a marmalade that could be similar to the one Elizabeth makes, but obviously things like that you can not buy. Highly recommend, would definitely return. All the best to Elizabeth you rock!
Absolutely amazing location, fantastic breakfast, and an incredibly comfy bed made this my favourites stay in New Zealand
Honestly, there's nothing I could fault; simply fantastic
If you are looking for a quiet private get away this is the place for you! It’s along a gravel track so as long as you don’t mind that while driving through beautiful scenery then definitely stay here. Beautiful views and even when it rained we could still sit outside and enjoy the peace. Breakfast was beautiful and everything homemade.
There was nothing we didn’t like, honestly. The only thing to be aware of is the gravel road to get there.
Elizabeth and her place were absolutely lovely! The views are stunning, the breakfast delicious and so many nice hikes to do in the area. Would love to come back!
The location is stunning : high up in the wetlands, the view is exceptional - you won't want to leave! The bauch itself is very cosy and well-equipped. There is a little kitchenette to cook your own meals (useful as the place is quite remote). The host, Elisabeth, is very welcoming, kind, and cooks some delicious breakfasts.
Everything was perfect !
Very beautiful .... and very friendly and helpful! I would love to be there again! 🙂
