The casual chairs in my bedroom were rather uncomfortable- not able to relax in them. It would be nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room rather than down the corridor especially when you're in your nightwear

Jackie and Daniel, the hosts, were very friendly and welcoming. We had a superb steak dinner and the cooked breakfast was great. It is in a great location for visiting the Kauri forests and museum. The night was blissfully quiet and dark.

Very nice host who gave us a warm welcome. The room was spacious, nice and bright, and the bathroom was fully equipped. The steak for dinner was great and the table's location on the terrace was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you very much!

Large rooms and good facilities. Jacqui was very welcoming and made our stay very relaxed.

The owners of the hotel made us feel very welcome. The room was large and comfy and breakfast was good. The evening meal that we ordered was even better and we could relax in the lounge afterwards. The museum close by was well worth a visit.

Breakfast was good - bacon and scrambled eggs, with toast and marmalade. We also had dinner on our arrival and the steak was excellent and cooked to perfection. We were welcome warmly, and our room was very comfortable. As we were the only guests we also had sole use of the guest lounge and TV. Located next door to the excellent Kauri Museum.

Very nice rooms,,comfortable. Ordered dinner and got lovely homecooked dinner and dessert,,and also the breakfast was delicious. Jackie and Daniel was really friendly and nice landlords.The Kauri museum was also really worth a visit and s guest hos Matakohe hotel you get a discount. Can highly recommend this hotel especially if you are in to visit the museum and also want to stay in a quiet and friendly place

Be prepared it is somehow ”of the grid” meaning it is on the countryside beside that nothing to complaine about

Les propriétaires sont très chaleureux. Le bed & breakfast se situe à côté de musée du kauri. C'est calme. Notre chambre était spacieuse et propre. Nos hôtes nous ont proposé de dîner et c'était très bon. Petit dej excellent aussi. Quelques fruits en plus auraient été bienvenus.

Excellent location, lovely engaging owner who ensured the stay was perfect. The accommodation was extremely well appointed with all amenities. The meals were fantastic. Would recommend to those visiting the adjacent Kauri museum so you can fully appreciated that awesome museum.

Our reception by Jackie was so warm and welcoming! The room was large and so was the bed! Super comfy. The meal at night was delicious and fresh , as was breakfast. Having rain water was a bonus. Everything was perfect!

Great location to spend the first night of a Northland road trip. Very comfortable room and the hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was included and being able to order a dinner was great considering the isolation of the area.

What we asked for.

Upon arrival Jackie met us at the door and showed us around the property. The accomodation was nicely appointed, with a lounge with refrigerator a few feet away from the room. We'd brought our dinner along, and Jackie graciously later heated it up for us and served it on the table in the lounge, very nice. In the morning Daniel prepared a delicious breakfast. Jackie and Danier were a very pleasant couple and made my son and I feel right at home. It was a very relaxing stay with great hosts.

The hosts were vibrant, lively and super friendly We had an excellent dinner and invited our friends . Food was great and we all had a wonderful time helped in part by our hosts who bent over backwards to help make the night a special occasion.

Conveniently located next to The Kauri Museum, Matakohe House is a comfortable place to stay. Jackie and Daniel are friendly and helpful. We had 3 different meal options which were all good.

No downsides.

The spacious rooms were nicely decorated and we had a large lounge with veranda as a shared space. Dinner was prepared by the house who had contacted us in advance as there is no restaurant in the area. We were given several menu options to choose from and it was all very nice. The whole house has been recently renovated by its new owners and it has a very nice feel. The owners are very welcoming and friendly, easy to have a conversation with.

Quiet- clean and reasonably priced. Very close to Kauri museum which was excellent.

Garden could have been more colourful.

We were highly appreciative of Jackie and Daniel’s willingness to share local knowledge and allow an early checkin, after a midnight flight with no sleep! Loved our room looking over the garden and rural countryside.

The only small criticism would be the fact that we had no idea of meal prices until the bill arrived…we felt the meals were overpriced.

Was grateful to have dinner available in the evening as the B&B is fairly isolated. The Kauri Museum nearby is well worth a visit with tickets valid for two days (there’s a lot to see).

Great location, quiet side road, next to Kauri Museum (very impressive), colonial style vibe, very friendly hosts, basic cooked breakfast included.

The couple who own the place are very nice. I highly recommend this b&b if you are in neighborhood. The room was big and comfortable. We had dinner on site and the steak was amazing, be prepared to pay an extra $15 for dessert. The breakfast was simple but delicious. The Kauri museum is conveniently located next door and definitely worth a visit. Also a drive to see the biggest fig tree is a must.

There isn’t much to do around but the place is very relaxing. A jacuzzi would be a nice addition for guests to enjoy.

Although a cooked breakfast was available, we opted for the lovely homemade muesli and toast, which was served with a huge cafetiere of coffee. This is a very homely feel accommodation, and our room was spacious with a large comfy bed.

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The hosts were friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious and we were fortunate to meet some lovely people from Denmark and had a fabulous evening, parting as friends. The location is convenient, close to the Kauri Museum which is a must to visit and learn for tourist and kiwi's alike.

This is the ideal place to stay if you are in the area. Jackie and Daniel are outstanding hosts! Our room was clean and spacious. Our bathroom was large, clean, with a great shower and the best shampoo/conditioner I have ever used. Their B&B is like a hotel. It has at least four rooms with a wide hallway between. Each room has French doors that open up onto a wrap around porch. The breeze that came into our Room was delightful! They have a hot tea and coffee bar available to all 24/7 AND a lounge, just for the guests. It was very private and comfortable. If you get a chance to have dinner and breakfast, don’t pass it up…it’s delicious! Plus, be sure to check out The Kauri Museum, which is just next door…it’s an impressive facility! I’m still dreaming of Jackie’s homemade cheesecake with mixed berry compote!
