Un peu bruyant de par la fete qu'on fait les voisins de l'hôtel mais les bouchons d'oreille fournis ont ete parfait Encire merci pour ce bon moment

Capanna tradizionale con aria condizionata e pale di ventilazione immersa in un bel giardino con piante locali. Camera e bagno molto grandi, pulizia buona. Poichè la struttura si trova all'interno di un parco non è esclusa la presenza di gechi in camera. Deve piacere l'esperienza. Purtroppo a causa del maltempo non abbiamo potuto utilizzare la piscina della struttura. Ristorante molto buono, anche per la colazione. 10 minuti di macchina dalle rovine di uxmal. Consigliato per l'escursione alle rovine.

The Pickled Onion, located in Santa Elena between Uxmal and the Ruta Puuc, makes a great base for exploring the area. I stayed here on my first trip in December 2019 and again in June 2026. The small complex of thatched-roof bungalows is set in a jungle garden with a swimming pool and an open-air restaurant. The property changed hands in 2026 and is now run by Amy Jo, an English-speaking expat. While comfortable, the establishment is somewhat rustic and still a work in progress. We stayed in one of the king-bed bungalows, furnished with a comfortable king bed draped with mosquito netting, one bedside table, a luggage rack, a storage area with shelves, and a small sitting area with a couch, chair, and table. The room also has a small loft area at one end. The bathroom is spacious, with counter space around the sink and a shelf underneath for personal items. The shower is large, with good hot water but weak water pressure. The Wi-Fi connection was OK, and there were a few outlets for charging electronics. The room also has a coffee maker and refrigerator but no safe. The room has air conditioning, but it is not adequate to cool the room in a reasonable amount of time during June. It takes several hours before the room is comfortable enough to sleep in. At other times of the year I'm sure it is fine. There is also a ceiling fan. The room was clean, but the thatched roof isn't completely sealed, so bugs do get in. I didn't find it much of a problem, but if you can't tolerate bugs in your room, this place may be a little too rustic for you. The small pool was clean and wonderful after a hot day exploring the ruins. The onsite restaurant is open-air and not air-conditioned. In December this wasn't an issue, but in June it was still too warm even with the fans. There were also mosquitoes in the dining area. They were better the second evening, and Amy Jo has plans to have the property fumigated.

Peut-être mettre une table de nuit et une lampe de chevet des deux côtés. Lors de notre passage il y avait seulement un côté qui disposait d’une table de nuit. Nous avons joué la place à Pierre, feuille, ciseaux et j’ai perdu…

La proximité de la route avec les camions qui vous réveillent dans la nuit. La sobriété de l’ameublement ( même pas de lampe de chevet: obligé de s’éclairer avec le portable quand on se lève la nuit, le temps d’atteindre l’interrupteur mural). Les prix du restaurant.

Bungalows relatively quiet, great location to Uxmal and other archaeological sites. Delicious food at the restaurant (but cocktails were not good).

Bugs everywhere in the room, including falling from roof onto the bed. Mosquito net was not big enough to cover the whole bed, so one person slept inside and one outside. No table to put things on or chairs in the room, so had to sit in uncomfy bed during rain shower. Uncomfortable bed with uncomfortable pillows. Terrible lighting in room (hard to read).

Stanza molto carina, con zanzariera intorno al letto. Colazione molto buona e il ristorante ha un menù vario (attenzione, durante il nostro soggiorno chiudeva alle 20). C'era la possibilità di ordinare una lunch box per il giorno dopo, molto utile. Tutta la struttura è molto carina, vale la pena spenderci qualche giorno, peccato noi avessimo una notte sola.

La doccia non era il massimo, pressione molto bassa dell'acqua.

Logement au bord de la route très passante donc très bruyante. Les bungalow ne sont pas du tout insonorisés donc impression de dormir dans la jungle. Salle de bain spartiate, lits pas confortables et beaucoup de moustiques.

The food here was excellent! We enjoyed the breakfast both mornings as well as a superb dinner one evening. We really enjoyed walking around the property as we are birdwatchers and there were many species of birds. Our cabin was very nice and private. The pool looked very pleasant but we didn’t swim as the weather was a bit cool during our stay. This was a good spot to stay for our visit to the ruins at Uxmal. I would absolutely stay here again!

It got quite noisy in town the first night as there was a celebration that got the roosters and dogs agitated for the whole night. There were earplugs provided but we were tired enough that we slept through the ruckus anyhow.

Great location, wonderful food in their restaurant, friendly staff, rustic but well outfitted rooms in huts.

We had the misfortune arriving in a cold snap and it was freezing in the thatched roof hut. 9 degrees Celsius inside and out and no heat! The staff had forgotten to tell us there were blankets and where to find them, so the first night was sleepless. The 2nd night better because of the blankets but still no heat. So we skipped the third night as we did not want to get sick. Unfortunate, as it woudl be a perfect place to stay if it had been hot.

Wonderful location on the Ruta Puuc. Lovely garden setting and comfortable cabinas. Very nice pool and restaurant. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Roomy thatched-roof bungalow amidst palms and tropical vegetation just outside of the village of Santa Elena on the Ruta Puuc. Simple but comfortable, with a very friendly staff and a restaurant on the premises. Excellent as the base for exploring the beautiful Mayan sites along the Ruta Puuc. Excellent breakfast on a lovely patio just a few steps from our bungalow.

Le restaurant de l’hotel était très bon.

Les chambres sont en réalité de petites huttes situées dans un jardin autour de la piscine. L’isolation est très insuffisante. Une fête a eu lieu dans le village et nous avons entendu la musique à plein volume toute la nuit, ce qui nous a empêchés de dormir. Il n’y avait pas d’eau chaude. Heureusement, un moustiquaire entourait le lit, car nous avons entendu toute la nuit des petites bêtes autour de nous — et nous préférons ne pas savoir de quoi il s’agissait.

Nocleg w typowym domku Majów, warunki więc nie są luksusowe, ale jest to ciekawe przeżycie. Obok była jakaś głośna impreza, więc całą noc był hałas. Do obiektu trzeba dotrzeć przed 20.00. Śniadania bardzo dobre.

Breakfast was lovely, fruit, eggs, coffee, toast. Pool was nice to use after a busy day exploring. Short drive to Xmal, chocolate museum and planetarium(story of Mayan history). Restaurant was lovely very good food and quick service.

Lots of mosquitoes and the nets over the bed had holes in. We put pegs in to pull nets together. Water pressure was very low.

L’hôtel était parfaitement placé pour une étape avant la visite d’Uxmal. Le restaurant de l’établissement était délicieux (attention il ferme à 20h) et parfait après un long voyage en voiture. On a même pu profiter un petit moment de la piscine avec mes filles avant d’aller dormir (elle ferme à 22h.) La propriétaire est adorable, arrangeante et réactive dans la communication.

Le petit déjeuner était très bon et très complet et le monsieur qui nous l’a servi était charmant. Par contre, nous voulions être à Uxmal pour 8h et il commençait à 7h30. Nous avons dû attendre d’être servis et cela a pris un peu plus de temps que si cela avait été sous forme de buffet. Au final, ce n’était pas grave, car le site est très peu fréquenté et nous étions presque seuls sur le site à 9h… Si vous avez le sommeil léger comme moi, prévoyez des boules quies, car il peut y avoir des cris d’animaux en tous genre la nuit autour de l’établissement (oiseaux, chiens, coqs dès 4:30 du matin voire avant) ;-)

Pickled Onion to miejsce, w którym domki są utrzymane w tradycyjnej architekturze Majów, z charakterystycznymi dachami krytymi strzechą. W praktyce to jak mieszkanie w ogrodzie botanicznym, bo domki otoczone są zielenią. Obiekt znajduje się na obrzeżach Santa Elena, w samym sercu Ruty Puuc, więc jest doskonałym punktem wypadowym do zwiedzania okolicznych stanowisk archeologicznych. Na miejscu masz do dyspozycji nie tylko restaurację, ale też basen, co jest świetnym udogodnieniem po dniu pełnym wrażeń.

Warto mieć na uwadze, że domki są położone przy głównej drodze, która jest jedyną trasą w okolicy. Nocą mogą tamtędy przejeżdżać ciężarówki i dla osób bardzo wrażliwych na hałas może to być odczuwalne, co trochę zakłóca spokój ogrodowej atmosfery. Jeśli ktoś jest wyjątkowo czuły na dźwięki, warto wziąć to pod uwagę.

I could write a book. Very un professional, no greeting, no staff help (sat around watching TV), ( owners energy was VERY sad( hence the reason for sage next to her) , Dirty property dead folage everywhere, looked like a tornado came thru, un prepared rooms( very hot when you got there, little to no water pressure. Food was pathetic at best. I was charged a price at the end, then later was charged almost a $100 more. Very un faithful, PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, OR ENERGY HERE…

Struttura tenuta molto bene; camera pulita. Abbiamo usufruito anche della piscina. Colazione buona e abbondante. Cena ottima.

La zona de piscina estaba muy bien. Proporciona toallas de piscina. Tomamos una margarita muy rica que pedimos en el restaurante. Aire acondicionado y nevera en la habitación. Ventanas y puerta con mosquitera. Parking privado.

Sabíamos cuando reservamos que se trataba de una cabaña tipo maya con techo de paja, pero finalmente esta experiencia no era para nosotros y de dos noches sólo nos quedamos una porque no dormimos bien. Al entrar se notaba mucha humedad y olor raro, a poco ventilado, un poco fuerte. Entraban insectos grandes... Y sobre la mosquitera de la cama y resto de habitación, caían "cosas" del techo que no sabemos de qué animal eran. Mucho calor y humedad por la noche. Se oía ruido de la carretera, además de perros y de los propios animales del entorno. Salía muy poca agua de la ducha. La cisterna del WC también tenía su peculiaridad. El desayuno, empezaba a las 7:30 y fue un poco pobre, esperábamos más ya que tienen restaurante propio y en el propio mensaje de la anfitriona que se recibe al reservar te indican que es especial. Nos pusieron, sin preguntar ni hablar nada con nosotros un poco de fruta, huevos revueltos, un zumo, pan, café y un trocito de bizcocho. Deberían indicar en qué consiste el desayuno antes de servirte.

What a lovely property close to Uxmal archaeological site. It’s also close to the town of Santa Elena. Sweet little thatched cottages, a clean pool, gorgeous gardens and delicious food!

We arrived after a rainfall so the thatched roof gives a bit of an earthy smell. Not really a complaint but something you notice. It wouldn’t deter me from coming back or recommending to others.

Everything. From the location on the outskirts of Santa Elena to the rooms. It was easy to find and we could park just outside reception. The room was great. It had a fan and a/c. The bathroom was large and fully equipped. The bedroom was also large. The bed comfortable and storage. A fridge and some downtime space. Breakfast was a delight with juice, excellent coffee, and toast eggs and fruit. We also ate at the restaurant one evening and one lunchtime. The menu is small but has sufficient variety for a short stay. The hotel very kindly looked after our luggage when we went to some of the ruins in checkout day.

Their attitude of cash is easier and cheaper for everyone. The fact of the matter is that for some foreigners getting hold of pesos is both expensive and difficult.

Nice park like setting got 8 bungalows. Well located to access Uxmal and other Ruta Puuc sites. Really enjoyed the pool and the meals in the restaurant.

Die Anlage ist süss und der Pool mit den Sitzgelegenheiten lädt zum Entspannen ein. Das Essen im Restaurant ist lecker.

La posizione a bordo strada. Non si può dormire quando passano i camion sembra stia decollando un aereo nel bungalow che è totalmente insonorizzato. Da sottofondo tutta la notte ci sono poi i galli che cantano in continuazione e cani che abbaiano sempre. Il materasso poi è sfondato e mancano anche oscuranti alle finestre.

Wij verbleven 1 nacht om Uxmal te bezoeken. Ons hutje was erg gezellig en comfortabel. Het eten in het restaurant was heerlijk! Ook het personeel was erg vriendelijk.

Chambre bruyante car proche de la route. Horaire du petit déjeuner trop tardif (7H30 mais cela équivaut à 8h30 dans le Quintana Roo - Cancun) et il fait jour beaucoup plus tôt que 7H30.

L’emplacement de l’hôtel est vraiment idéal pour visiter la Ruta Puuc. Par rapport à d’autres établissements du Mexique, le confort s’en ressent mais malgré tout, c’est agréable de sortir des sentiers battus et de faire une nuit un peu différente.

La literie pourrait être un peu plus confortable, nous avons eu un peu de musique en début de nuit et les coqs chantent tôt… mais rien de bien méchant !

Hôtel défraîchi beaucoup trop près de la route. Réveillé toute la nuit par des camions. Peu de prises électriques dans la chambre , pas de table de nuit, pas d’occultation aux fenêtres de la porte donc réveillés avec le jour . Un personnel quelconque qui nous voit nous escrimer avec de lourdes valises mais qui ne bouge pas. A oublier
