Staff delizioso, ci tornerei sempre!
Niente, è tutto meraviglioso e prenotatelo con fiducia!
Pulizia; Cena buffet; Colazione buffet (varia);
Bagno piscina sporchi; Mancanza phon (asciugacapelli) in stanza;
Nulla!
It was a safe and secure space with a great swimming pool and breakfast after a long journey. It was close to the airport.
It was far from the ocean.
Room was nice good air-conditioned pool freezing 🥶
Need more staff that speak English no Bintang crystal very isolated beers where $9.00 Aussie
Staff and location.
We booked two rooms and one of them was half a construction site when we checked in. The whole wall had been stripped of paint and had been freshly plastered. No comment was made about it until we asked to be moved to a “normal” room. There are about 3-4 kind and polite team members, including the manager. The rest of them do not speak any English or have any inclination to be helpful. Some of the rudest most incompetent staff I’ve encountered in Indonesia. The two gentlemen taking turns being in charge of the restaurant are particularly rude. The seafood nasi goreng gave me a severe food poisoning for 4-days. The chefs idea of a serving seafood is taking a whole uncleaned jumbo shrimp, head tail legs crust etc, and then frying it in thick batter and serving this ginormous blob next to the rice. The lobby was so filthy that by the 3rd day I couldn’t take it anymore and invited the receptionists to see the dirt on the carpets. They ooh-d and aah-d and said “oh yes, this needs vacuum”. Of course they never actually organised the vacuum until I myself called housekeeping. It’s a hotel playing at being a hotel. Avoid at all costs.
Lovely Hotel . great breakfast and dinner
Chose this hotel as it was the best in town and closer to airport. Took 20mins to reach airport.very little shops near by
Comfort and Pool
No black tea in room
The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The facilities outstanding and the restaurant very good. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
The pillows were very hard and large. I would suggest in the rooms an option of pillow sizes thickness
Clean
Breakfast just so so
Prijzen in het restaurant waren enorm duur. Volledig buiten proporties.
The hotel is fine, everything is in good order; better suited for business travellers or up market guests, neither of which am I. Breakfast is really good, great chef in the kitchen- if there’s a downside for me it’s that the environment is a little sterile- it’s more of a Marriott than a guesthouse. And if that’s your thing you’ll love it.
All good
All good
its in. a grat location and is like an oasis in Sumba....its a good place to have meetings they have good breakfast and the staff is very nice
Nice rooms with very good beds and pillows
Restaurant - different menus came out - husband got one, I got a different one! No flexibility re ‘add a scoop of ice cream to a dessert. Front office staff - only one person had a little English.
Staff, rooms were good, plenty to choose from for breakfast.
A bit far out of town and no Grabs around.
Breakfast options, staff friendliness, rooms and amenities
The Wi-Fi sometime up and down
Clean and complete
The wall paint in my room has peeled off, possibly due to humidity or something similar , but it’s not big deal , just to let the property know
I booked the hotel on their official website and was asked to make payment to their Indonesian bank account before my reservation could be confirmed. So I did. But upon checking in I was asked to make payment for my hotel room. I told the receptionist Roswita that I had already made payment to their bank but she insisted that I paid at the reception counter. Not quite sure what was going on and not wanting to pick up an argument at the reception counter, I made the payment which as more than the agreed price online. Fortunately, I only stayed for one night. Upon checking out, I checked to see if they had double charged me. Indeed they had. The male staff at the reception counter on 23rd March 2025, told me that he would check with the finance team and get back to me. More than a week after I sent a reminder as there was no news. About 3 weeks after, upon my prompting, they replied on whatsapp to say that the Finance was on leave and nothing could be done. It is now almost 2 months and I am still not refunded for being double-charged. All this while, no updates have been initiated by them and they only respond when prompted. Do not stay in Sima Sumba Hotel!
The hotel is nice, near the airport. The room is small, but overall nice and neat
The WiFi wasn’t working during our stay. It was a problem with the connection in the island, but anyway. The breakfast was generally Asian, not a lot of choice for foreigners who are not used to eat soups and rice for breakfast. I personally didn’t like the pillows in the room, it was hard for me to sleep on them
Although West Sumba is nature tourists destinations such as beaches, ethnic villages houses and other cultural which most of the accommodations are at the beach, but there is only decent and good hotel called SIMA opened recently. The hotel is good for normal meetings but also good stay facilitated with swimming pool, gym, restaurant, cafe and meeting rooms.
Excellent facilities nice and close to the airport
Beautiful, clean and friendly staff. This is my second time here and I absolutely will be back
The breakfast buffet…. Due to minimal tourism the food is reused and doesn’t look fresh. The a la carte and regular menu though is perfect. The food is spectacular. I’m sure when it is busy the breakfast is good but I do not recommend if it is not busy.
It is a new and nicely furnished hotel. Staff was kind, but most of them didn’t understand English enough. The room was spacious and bed was comfortable. There was a big pool, but we didn’t use it. Everything was clean, but the finishing works on the building were not up to 4 star hotel.
They didn’t have the food on the menu, also the drinks were not available in normal quantities for such a big hotel, e.g. first evening they had only 3 bottles of Coke. Usually I don’t drink it, but sparkling water was also not available. I must emphasise that other than that hotel, you can’t go anywhere else in Tambolaka. There are no restaurants or bars. There is nothing to do after dinner. Airco in our room didn’t work properly first night, but they repaired it after our complaint.
We stayed here as a large group for a week. We absolutely loved Sima Sumba! Everything is new and beautiful. The bed was fantastic. The room had a desk and a hot water kettle, with tea and powdered coffee provided. The bathroom was super modern, with a gorgeous waterfall shower (certainly guilt-inducing when you become aware that Sumba is a fairly arid island). They provided toiletries like toothbrushes and shampoo/body wash (they are large, refillable bottles, which I love for the environment!). The AC worked well. Laundry services are available. The restaurant was fantastic. The buffet breakfast had lots of choices every day, including a made-to-order omelet station. There was a mix of Indonesian and Western choices. We ate several dinners there, too. The portions are huge! We enjoyed almost everything we ordered (the barramundi was a rare miss), with highlights being the different soups (including Sumbanese chicken soup), the amazing roasted bananas, and the delicious juice and smoothies. They also offered delightful room service on the nights we were too tired to eat in the restaurant. No one in our group had any stomach issues, so the hygiene is perfect. They even have a separate cafe that makes excellent espresso drinks! The pool was lovely! We didn't try the spa. The staff were all so friendly and tried hard. Some weren't super proficient in English, so we had a few miscommunications, mostly about bills. But honestly that's on us, because we are the ones visiting Indonesia and should have tried to communicate in the local language! We also rented 2 of their conference rooms for an event that we held. The conference rooms were spacious and well appointed. They brought out a lovely snack buffet in the middle of the day. I can't wait for my next visit to Sima Sumba Hotel! Helpful tip: Their outlets are universal, so I didn't even need to use my adapter!
Very nice facilities and super hospitality, with a very helpful staff.
A stay at Sima Hotel in Tambolaka was unforgettable. This place perfectly combines luxury with the authentic charm of Sumba Island. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking tranquility, stunning views, and a genuine Indonesian experience.
At checkin, the process was very brief. The front office staff were warm and respectful. The range of food at breakfast was relatively extensive. I didn't expect that. The service staff were friendly.
The fact that there were not one but three stray cats roaming around and howling at the dining tables at the exterior part of the restaurant. We felt irritated and disturbed by their presence. A restaurant, especially hotel restaurant should not have these animals around. The other downside is the wifi signal. We were given the login details but these proved useless as the signal was non-existent. We informed the hotel about this before we left.
I went to Sumba on November 2024, and spent 3 days only at Sima Sumba Hotel. My first impression about that hotel is elegant and modern (compare to the building/hotel around it). The bedroom is clean and neat. They have great decoration that show the culture of Sumba the horses and other symbol, and the staff are friendly.
The AC is good. Everything is quite good. The lift also quite quick. Good service.
The bed is too soft. The breakfast food is not as expected.
This hotel is gorgeously designed and our room was very comfortable. The major problem we had was with the food. We did have some good food for dinner (the “chicken steak” was great!). The breakfast buffet was abundant but also very unappetizing - the food was not good. We thought this was because it was not aligned with our western tastes, but our Indonesian friend also said she did not like it. Other than that, we had a pleasant stay here.
Location was convenient for us as we had a scooter. Room was clean and we had more than sufficient changes of towels etc. TV and Aircon both worked effectively. Staff were very attentive during our stay, especially Youni and Andy in the cafe. Breakfast was ample from choice perspective.
The juice options at breakfast were a bit disappointing as they would run low/out very quickly and not be replaced quickly.
we love the bed and the shower water pressure was great. The buffet breakfast has more variety and was change during the stay. Another cafe to experience just next to the lobby and more food to enjoy. The staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you and to see you again
Spacious, wonderful design, fantastic helpful stuff, super friendly people who really try to make your stay memorable
Services and food are excellent. Location is also good.
nothing
the hotel is modern but the staff is totally in need of change. the restaurant has a menu that doesn't exist, the beverage part that you find written in the menu doesn't exist because when we asked there was no bottle. at breakfast they don't even have yogurt. the spa (they call it spa) is simply a paid massage, more expensive than any place in Indonesia and also poor. the staff doesn't understand English, it's very slow and poor
Staff
Too much chlorine in the pool
The lobby
Horrible service. Horrible food. No English spoken at all. Not clean. People smoking near the pool like there is no tomorrow. Rooms super noisy. Hotel on the road windows not isolated. The worst place I have stayed in Indonesia by far. Worst pillows. This hotel is run by people who have no idea about hospitality
By far the best hotel of Tambolaka/Waitabula. The hotel is relatively new and that shows. Everything is still shiny and in good condition. Hopefully they'll invest in maintenance the upcoming years to keep it like that. At other places we noticed that's often overlooked in Sumba. We stayed in a junior executive suite, to which two beds were added for our kids. The room was beautifully designed and comfortable. The beds are plush. We slept like babies. All amenities and services you'd wish for are available. Staff is extremely friendly and effective. Best of all is the massive swish pool. Our kids had a blast. Coffee is great as well. It's one of the few places in town with a proper espresso machine (apart from the Talasi estate). The restaurant has a variety of local and international dishes. Quality is good; portions are on the smallish side. One suggestion perhaps: a hairdryer in each room. Ours didn't have one, but that's a detail. All in all, we had a great - and very relaxing - stay at Sima Sumba.
Can’t recommend this place enough, clean, comfortable and the food was so so yummy! Will definitely be back!
Great hotel and staff. The hotel is located in the west part of the island not far away from most of the attractions such as local ancient villages, lagoons, and waterfalls, beach’s, etc. The GPS reception in the island is not very good outside the main tows/locations, however, the hotel can arrange easy transportation to visit the island around as you desire. They also can help with local guides. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful always trying to help guests. The facilities are great and the restaurant food is delicious. A big shout out to the manager, Annank which made sure my stay was extremely pleasant. The only done side, which is more related to sumba it self rather the hotel, there are not many restaurants around the hotel if you want to get out but, as mentioned, there restaurant has many and delicious options.
staff was very friendly and very helpful (if they spoke English). The hotel was very clean, bed super comfortable and the shower the best I've had in Indonesia so far!
Included breakfast was of mediocre quality, would expect much better food for the price we paid. Most of the staff at breakfast doesn't speak English, which makes it hard to order what you are after. The location of the hotel is bad, at least 10 min walk to smalles minimart. Our room didn't close properly by itself, we always had to push it closed. One day, we were out the whole day and returned to our room not being closed properly after housekeeping... luckily we locked all our valuables in our suitcase before we left.. At 8am in the morning they would get event rooms ready at the floor above us, and playing super loud Indonesian music. When reported that the music woke us up, we got an apologies and it stopped, to then start again after an hour. And every other morning we would be waken up by the loud music again. Gym was open from 6am till 10pm, but AC was never turned on when we arrived. So we had to turn it on ourselves, and having to work out in a very hot room for most of the workout. Plus, getting bitten by mosquito's as they were happy to be in the hot room. Internet is not as great as advertised. Often needed to connect again, and once couldn't connect at all. Got an error message, staff tried and them said there were internet problems (my partner had no issues..) Unfortunately this hotel had much more bad than good. For $85 a night I would expect much better service..
Beautiful property
A very enjoyable stay. Wonderful staff, very eager to please
nothing
New hotel nicely decorated
They should have more breakfast options for western people. Please do something with the ugly wall next to the pool. It looks very bad and that’s a shame.
Interior , room space
None
I asked the person at the reception about how to get around West Sumba and what to see. He is very kind and helpful. I arrived at the hotel at night, and the restaurant was open until 11:00, which was nice. The starry sky seen from the poolside was amazing.
Most accessible and best available hotel in Sumba close to the airport. The hotel is still new, the facilities are great, and all the staff is really friendly and helpful, trying hard to satisfy the guests. Highly recommended, we'll come back next time :)
Travelled for the first time to Sumba and stayed in Sima Sumba Hotel. It was such a delightful experience. The room was comfortable and clean. Staff was also helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great with varied of menus. I like the swimming pool the most. Big thanks for Pak Aswar for the warm hospitality
Staff was kind and helpful and facilities as expected for a hotel near the airport. We previously stayed further inland so wanted to be closer to the airport before we flew out of Sumba. We enjoyed the small hotel gym and made the most of our 1 night here. There was a few staff in training that week so check in and out was a bit slow. Book their airport shuttle!
Pool and gym area could use some more attention to detail.
Lovely place to start your trip on Sumba, you'll miss it afterwards, trust me. They'll send a shuttle to the airport upon request, cost is 150K. Might check with the taxi drivers outside to compare. Reception staff are all business and helpful. If you need a private car and driver, they'll refer you...driver is laid back and price is competitive. There's an elevator which is a luxury on the island. Room is clean and spacious. Bed very comfy. Quiet air conditioner. TV with English channels. There's a pool which I didn't get a chance to use. Had a late lunch and coffee in the cafe which was tasty. Breakfast was also very good, with eggs made to order.
I sent a message on Booking.com asking about airport transfer options. No response. I ended up calling when I arrived. They sent a shuttle but didn't mention price and I mistakenly assumed it was a free service. That one's on me.
The architecture and interior design are very impressive. The breakfast was really more than perfect, very generous and the choice of cuisine was wide. The staff were very very helpful and polite. For us, it was a perfect place to stay on our departure day, before returning to Bali.
The architecture and interior design are very impressive. Fabrics and textiles beautiful. The restaurant and cafe were very good, and staff helpful and polite. For us, this was a perfect place to stay on the day of our arrival, before travelling to the South West coast. Breakfast was plentiful and choice of cuisine was wide.

Cleanness, staff and location
The food and coffee
After our flight back to Bali was cancelled, we needed to find a place to stay. This hotel is very nice considering the location and price. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The pool was huge with sun beds, the food was quite good, and the cafe had decent coffee as well. It’s about 15 mins from the airport as well which was convenient for us.
The location is a bit random, as there’s not much around, so if you’re staying here you’re kind of confined to only eating and staying at the hotel.
Great
