Room clean, hotel fine, customer service 5 star, just an issue with shower, water pressure low and cold water, not heating up, apart fron that the usual high standards were met.
This was booked for my parents wedding anniversary. They thoroughly enjoyed it. They don’t usually sleep well in their 70s and set in their ways with ailments etc but they said their room was wonderful and thoroughly enjoys their stay.
Good service and good food
Lovely place to stay
This is now the 3rd stay hers, over a a few years - can see the changes, not all for the best - 30 minute breakfast sitting - last day was nade to feel an inconvenience, as we arrived 3 minutes prior to our 9am slot. Gave our room number, was looked at to told we was early - there were 6 empty tables for 2's. She pointed us to a table for 6 - 3 other 2's followed us, to be greeted morning, taken to ta table for 2. Within our 30 minute sitting4 remaining 2 tables stayed empty - unsure what seat plan you use - but a simple swap of room numbers to empty sittings should be an easy task - Not running water in the bathroom between 8 - 8:30am tried using the room phone gave engaged tone continual, we stayed in the anex. Friday night had a table reserved for 7, had to ask for an extra chair, as only seated for 6, asjed the lady who walked past us, to be told, its not her job, to find chairs.......as we was meeting family, wd was seated, orderd food & drink, enjoying our catch up for a waitress to come over, to tell us the table was reserved & who seated us. Childs mac & chesse needed to go back, far too salty & garlic tasting, too strong for a childs meal - was replaced eith a bowl of chips - Disappointed on this returned visit
Breakfast was excellent. Staff were so curtios and respectful. Will definatley be going back to stay again, longger next time. A big thumbs up.
Limited breakfast offering especially regarding drinks. Evening food good and specials available. Room was very spacious if a little dated. Nice separate lounge area and large corner whirlpool bath.
Cold bedrooms
Breakfast was either a greasy fry up or toast and cereal. Was hoping for pastries or something as I can't have milk or greasy food. Dietary requirements weren't first on the list if you're vegetarian. Tho decaf tea was available. Most staff were lovely. Bed was ok. Housekeeping were great. Wouldn't particularly stay here again.
The room had a smell of urine coming from the bathroom , the bed wasn’t comfortable the bedding didn’t feel clean, and felt very old and thin ,breakfast was just about ok ,not much choice and not good quality of food .
Lovely comfy bed - good food and good service - the shower unit leaked like a sieve and within minutes the bathroom floor was flooded - used all my towels to soak up the mess and was supplied more to use for myself. (Room 6)
We very much enjoyed our stay breakfast very nice staff excelent and our dog enjoyed himself as well room bery nice and clean.

Breakfast menu basic no shops but could either walk or jump in car to small store
The place was good, great breakfast but poor Wi-Fi I couldn’t use my phone in my room.
We enjoyed our stay and the food was great. The staff was careful
The restaurant was clearly a popular place for guests and locals. Food, drinks and services were great. The decor is from the 1990’s and possibly the mattress in our room. Overall, acceptable considering that rate we paid.
Stayed here a few times. always good food and great staff but the small rooms showers need updated
Ideal location
Unfortunately this stay did not match the last 3 visits both Saturday night and Sunday morning we had no water for 20 mins apparently due to guests showering at the same time, also breakfast although time slot booked was pretty shambolic, hot drinks arrived after 30 mins and food was sparse, certainly not up to previous visits all, very disappointing
Cold damp rooms, dated and towels dirty .no sound proof doors so hear everything in corridor. Good cheap hotel tho
Room needs some tlc. Wallpaper coming away from walls & ceiling. Shower needs updating. Boiling kettle under tv not a good idea (I moved it away) Room clean & bed so comfortable. Staff excellent from reception to bar & serving staff. Food great, enjoyed the two course meal. Colne not far away with shops & a theatre. Had a good stay overnight.
Friendly and helpful staff, they make you welcome from the minute you arrive. Bedrooms basic but cosy, but bar and restaurant is beautiful, cosy and quaint and food amazing. Full marks to the staff.
On this visit the food and drink were good .Room ok ,bed not too comfy though allowances do have to be made as the price is pretty good.
I thought there may be a problem with traffic noise as it’s situated on a busy main road & didn’t fit the description of being a rural country pub. However, it was quiet, dinner was delicious and breakfast very good. Only downside was being charged £3 for a second cup of tea at breakfast. I’d stay there again as it was reasonably priced all round.
The breakfast lets this hotel down I think the chef must have had a butty wagon before being employed here. Nothing is freshly cooked bacon very salty and the sausage has very little meat in them.
Our stay was amazing value, and handy for a nearby wedding. The room was small but very comfy - great bed. Breakfast was a little disappointing but welcome none the less, and I have to say that absolutely everyone at the hotel was so welcoming and friendly. Already thinking about a return to explore the area in future.
All good hotel decent breakfasts decent
We had a very spacious room with a large double bed , two televisions, and a sofa. There was tea and coffee making facilities with biscuits. No fridge and the hairdryer was at reception. The bathroom was huge with a large shower and claw footed bath. Both the bedroom and bathroom were very clean. We didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner but have eaten there before and it was very good. Breakfast was included in the price but we were surprised to be charged over £3 for a second cup of coffee. The oyher thing that spoilt our stay was the overwhelming stink of pot. We were on the ground floor and the smell was awful. We werent sure if this was guests or staff but it wasn't pleasant.
Staff very helpful friendly and Professional Excellent
We only had an overnight stop here so our experience was limited. However it's a nice looking property, staff were very friendly, polite and helpful, there is reception 24hrs, ample parking and nice scenery round about. We had a good buffet style breakfast and although our room, number 1, isn't in the best location, it was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee, biscuits and shower/shampoo gels in the bathroom. There are a number of motorhome or campervan slots available for 1 to 3 night stays and an outside toilet available, all for a competitive price. We enjoyed our stay and it was good value for money.
Lovely modern room with good amenities. Comfy bed & pillows. Good meal options in the dining room and breakfast in the morning was good.
Pillows were awful!
Loved our stay here. Although we only just made it into the restaurant before they were turning people away, so I recommend you book. Great value stay, comfortable bed, great staff. Would definitely stay here again
We had room 5. No full length mirror only one mirror placed so high on wall it was impossible to see yourself in it. I had the Sunday roast meal the vegetables were like slop couldn’t actually say or taste what it was. No defined veg like peas, carrots or cauliflower or broccoli. Staff friendly & very attentive
We have stayed at the old stone trough a few times now and what makes it such a pleasurable stay is the staff, you recieve such a welcomming friendly approach at all times. Staff are helpful and accomodating so polite and friendly. The rooms are always clean and layed out nicely Overall just a great place to stay.
Overall main areas were fine. Deluxe room was really a standard. Bathroom shower, bath and sink area need updating. Vinyl flooring in bedroom needs replacing. Pillows were lumpy and bottom of divan was dirty, although bedding was clean.
Friendly attentive staff , nothing too much trouble , excellent food , reasonable prices , bed comfortable and room stylish . Easy parking and lovely views
Stayed for British R&B weekend so it was understandably very busy. Staff were all very friendly and helpful but clearly under pressure because it was so busy. We just thought the bathroom in our room No22 was ready for an upgrade
Gorgeous views from a lovely seating area. Large free car park. Tea/coffee replenished daily. Bed wasn’t comfortable as could feel springs. Taking a shower was a problem, lucky to have hot water if the water decided to come through the tap or shower. Breakfast in the dining room was cramped & poorly run. Constantly ran out of orange /apple juice, had to wait for bacon & eggs to be replenished, although was hot & tasty, tea/ coffee was dreadful. Choice of muesli or cornflakes, apple or over ripe bananas, no pastries or yoghurt provided. Staff were friendly & worked hard, but obvious no training given. Would not stay here again.
Overall excellent and would certainly stay here again, receptionist was super helpful only 2 minor things were my shower in the annex had awful water pressure so showering was a challenge and the breakfast seemed on a budget cheap sausages used etc which against how good evening food was is a surprise
Amazing stay as always staff wonderful food lovely rooms 5 star see you in September xxx
Having had time to reflect on what we coined at the time as a Fawlty Towers type experience, it almost seems more fitting to re-imagine a different sit-com of the time, whereby maybe Arkwright makes the same trip across the Pennines that we did to start a hotel, joined by Nurse Gladys, to remain ‘Open all Hours’. The hotel presents itself well and far from a tight-fisted Arkwright style. Indeed if fancy wallpaper and cushions are your thing, then you have landed on your feet. However underlying this is a budget filled approach that cannot be shaken. As for getting what you paid for, well we actually got a little of what the previous guests had paid for, in terms of a half-filled (not half-empty) miniature bottle of shower gel in the shower, 2 out of the original 3 custard creams on the drinks tray and pillows which one can only assume were the winners of a pillow fight that had gone on before. All of this though was only found after we managed to get into the room. Here we needed help as the lock was sticky and it felt like you were going to break the key off. The helpful receptionist though did get us in, you just had to j-j-j-jiggle it a bit !!! The room itself was compact and not quite bijou. I cannot recall the last time I could stand in the middle of a hotel bathroom, touch all 4 walls without moving, and still have a shower, wash basin and toilet. Full review continued in attached image due to space confinements...
Nicely decorated rooms, comfortable bed. Could offer more choice of eggs at breakfast (poached, scrambled). Was shocked to hear from the waitresses that if you want another cup of tea/coffee or even water with breakfast, that you have to pay for it!
The room was very small and no way was a decent double. The mattress was old and stained and the bedding very well used. The shower had black mould The sink plug hole was black The carpet from reception was actually black with dirt it was truly shocking. Receptionist accused me of being rude because I complained which I did politely. We could not stay in this room and had to find alternative accommodation. Easily one of the worst hotels I've ever booked !
Restaurant good and service excellent. Comfortable bed. I was surprised to find there was no hairdryer in the room which is quite unusual nowadays. Its a pretty basic piece of equipment.
Thanks
The weather was hot so we could eat outside with a lovely view. The food was nice and the room was spacious.
Bed very comfortable food average
Bed was really comfortable
Lovely staff food really nice
Unfortunately this hotel did not give us the standard we have had at other places. The room was shabby, the shower was full of mould and the extractor fan was solid with dust. The mattress was damaged and a mattress topping was put on to hide it. Breakfast was average and choice was minimal. Overall not the best experience.
Excellent value for money and friendly.
Good food. Comfortable bed. Good internet.
This is not a complaint only things we found wrong was the wardrobe was covering the bathroom light switch, the kettle was to big to fit in the sink to fill up and the mirror was to high up on the wall we stayed in room 6
Second time staying here and we cant fault it. Staff are warm and friendly. Rooms are lovely and clean, spacious bed is so comfortable. Would recommend it here
Great place to stay
Our room was very comfortable and spacious loved the fact we had patio doors straight outside was very good. The evening meals were ok, not as good as we have had previous visits. The breakfast has improved with an allocated slot, all breakfast food was hot and nice tasted. Good visit again.
Everything went exactly as it should. Super fast, efficient check-in, lovely comfortable room, good food and service in the restaurant, great value for money.
Good parking and a great location for walking , good evening meals
Just a quick stay of one night so can’t complain about anything really.
Great stay, great food, friendly staff
It was a lovely place to stay we had a meal which was really good value and very tasty, also service was excellent.
Value for money stay. Clean and comfortable stay, friendly staff
Breakfast was too repetitive.
Will be back
They advertised the rooms as deluxe this was not the case you could not get a shower the shower head would not stay up to get under the shower no bars on bath so you couldn't get out of the bath the wallpaper had gaps in the wallpaper when it was hung it was coming off in places some of the staff did not know what they were doing the bar staff didn't know the price of a bottle of wine you ask for the price they just say look on the menu because I don't know you would think they would have a list of the prices the second night I was stood at the side of a couple waiting at the bar to get served and got ignored even the couple at the side sat at the bar commented looks like you're not there I must be invisible so I just walked away got in the car and went down the road to an off-licence the first night there we ordered soup my soup came with skin on the top had to wait and ask for the bread the bread came no butter had to ask for butter but everything else was nice the breakfast the toaster wasn't set up correctly you put the bread in and it come out exactly same bread not toasted the sausages was undercooked all of them that was the first morning and the second morning not a good choice no black pudding no Ash Browns Muesli and cornflakes no continental breakfast the person who welcome you to your table just asked if you wanted coffee or tea but never said anything else two more couples was complaining about the rooms all in all very poor
Friendly staff and good food
There have been fundamental changes made since our last visit e.g. Change of drink supplier resulting in a change in the range of draught beers available and some apparent changes in staff, may have been shift changes???
Fantastic base for exploring the local area. Very nice friendly staff. Great stay again Thank you
Everything was absolutely great. We have travelled all over the world and we are now in our 70's. This must be in the top three or four we've have stayed in. Quality, value for money, pleasant staff. Wonderful stay
Nice breakfast nice meal great staff nice atmosphere 10th stay still no complaints thanks
Lovely room Nice meal Super friendly staff
Regular visitors since pre covid and whilst the standard of cleanliness and customer service are always excellent it is pleasing to see the ongoing improvements to the fabric of the business. Outstanding value for money.
Really enjoyed our stay, tasty breakfast and well organised,
We really enjoyed our 2 night stay. The breakfast was excellent and prices for rooms and food was very reasonable.
Booked one night stay for Thurs, close for Skipton visit on Friday. Deluxe double room with garden view in annexe. Had a great night's sleep and a great cooked breakfast. They could do better with the coffee though.Didnt use the restaurant but did pop in for a drink at the bar, very nice and pleasant decor, would have used the bar for longer but was very crowded with a wedding booking and most tables reserved. On the whole a very pleasant stay and would recommend
The hotel was in a good location, bus stops right outside so easy access to local towns. The sheep out the window were cute. The food was really good and pleanty of it. The TV in the room wasnt tuned in, took 4 attempts to fix that. The bedside lamp wasnt plugged in and the bed was blocking the plug and was too heavy to move, even with two of us trying. The room was lovely and cold on a very hot days arrival, left the room for dinner, came back to damp clothes. I wish I had spoken to the hotel staff they were very nice and helpful...they probably would have fixed these issues. 7/10 would stay again but in a different room.
It's always a very good stay at The Old Trough. A tiny suggestion though: could you find a mattress or two with a bit more support?
The old stone trough is great its friendly clean in a great spot good walks great breakfast and good offer on food during the week
Friendly staff, convenient location, good food and value for money
Lovely place to stay. Very friendly and clean.
Staff friendly ,met our needs ,enjoyed breakfast and would go again ample parking and next to a good bus service
The bathroom needs updating. Shower was Luke warm and only a trickle Food in the restaurant very bland
Brilliant ran hotel clean and food is great. Highly recommended.
An ok hotel. Staff were lovely
Nice and clean, room was lovely.
I love it here, lovely setting, people and food. Very comfortable bed and pillows Great breakfast included in reasonable priced room highly recommended
The room was good and the food was very good
Superb stay, excellent friendly staff, will definitely come back 👍
Everything went well. Would have liked two armchairs rather than one and a stool.
We stayed 2 nights.. Very comfortable bed and lovely breakfast included in the price. We had a standard double room. All very clean, however I would say that this room could do with an update, especially the bathroom. We ate in the restaurant on one of the evenings and the food was very good.
For the price we paid everything was good. Decent room and food was good. The bathroom could of done with freshening up as grout was grubby and toilet felt very low. The lady on reception was fantastic and very helpful even finding us a dmall heater as the room was quite cool and my husband has cancer and feels the cold
Thought the double room and bathroom were adequate but rather small. TV in wrong position to watch when in bed after a long day out in the rain!
I would not stay here again :( Did not live up to previous reviews. Room was satisfactorily clean but bed was too soft and pillows appeared to be past their best, so not a good night’s sleep. Shower cubicle was very small and very dated, although the water was hot, but the shower room had a very unpleasant smell of drains which lingered. I am a solo traveller and the following morning, whilst I was getting toast at the servery, the rest of my breakfast was cleared away and other guests given my table, despite my overnight bag and room key being at the side of my seat.
Relaxing
A giod experience however bathroon sink was cracked and restaurant staff seemed a bit rushed, although it was very busy and had run out of a few choices which should have been mentioned when passing menus over.
After a very long day travelling I had one night in the most comfortable bed ever when on the road, the shower was great and I slept like a baby! Breakfast was limited but more than enough
Great value for money, friendly staff and easy parking. We'll be back.
The only downside was the intermittent Wifi.
