Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Der wunderschöne Ausblick bleibt uns in Erinnerung.
Good location with easy parking
Lack of menu options 0
Breakfast was very good and good coffee machine. Cooked. Food was good.
The cute old-school hotel Good location Nice window view
Some of the staff could have been friendlier...but some were suer nice
Cosy rooms, friendly staff, restaurant at the hotel with good food, free parking.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating
It was not as advertised. Previous owners have sold up and it is no longer a family run hotel. All staff were general workers. It was down at heel, linen and bedding was poor quality . Breakfast was very low quality . There was only bar food available again poor quality. Generally not what I expected for the money.
Nothing
Room and bathroom were tiny, restaurant food was terrible
Recently refurbished rooms- very clean and comfortable
Although we had paid for breakfast- none was available- a only very poor continental was ( cereal toast and juice) . No refund offered.
Bra men väldigt varierande. Kocken var sjuk flera dagar och då blev inget lagat.
Städningen
The location, team of staff and the food - all excellent. The team are very accommodating. Bith the breakfast and evening meals were really good. One of the chefs had a real eye for presentation - she was fab. Loved how she presented a bowl of porridge - with berries on the side and a separate jug of maple syrup.
Would have liked the bins emptying at the weekend and a fridge would have been useful. It stated if you wished to have towels changed to leave them in the shower. We tried this with one towel but it didnt get changed - not a massive issue however
Location and friendliness
Hard to watch tv
Meals at the hotel restaurant were good when available, but when the chef was a no-show, the cold food for breakfast was not good, and the only other option for dinner was the Chinese take out up the road.
While it is convenient to have a restaurant in house, especially as there aren't other options in Scalloway, the chef lacks transportation and at times doesn't show up. That happened twice during our six days. We were directed to get take out Chinese from up the road. The bar is available to all locals as well as hotel guests and at times was extremely busy and very loud.
Great restaurant and comfortable rooms.
Veldig fint at det var middagsservering der og at de hadde egen pub.
Litt mye venting ved kaffe maskinen.
Very clean and comfortable- friendly and helpful staff , good food and drinks , good location
Just a lovely traditional hotel with restaurant and bar, the friendliest staff. Room had everything I'd need for a stay and location one of the best I stayed on Shetland with a nice surrounding small town to wander around in the evening.
It felt as if the staff were a man down, but that didn't stop the ones who were there from working doubly hard to make dure it didn't affect the experience.
The rooms were bright and comfortable. Very clean bathroom in the room. Seafront location is lovely. Bar was comfy and relaxed and there were plenty options to sit outside.
My room on second floor was adjacent to what seemed like the staff smoking area behind the bar/kitchen which was a bit noisy and had wafting smoke come I through my bathroom window which wasn’t so great. Staff could have been more friendly and the breakfast options for cooked breakfast wasn’t available one morning.
Comfortable room, friendly staff, decent evening meal menu
Service at breakfast was a bit random at times, and it was confusing that there was a breakfast price list on the table when breakfast was included in the room price. Having a room above the smoking shelter meant that is was a bit noisy at times.
Friendly staff, great location.
No cooked breakfast on second morning, just a sign saying so and that breakfast was "continental". That was cereal, bread and some fruit, which doesn't amount to much of a continental breakfast. Quite disappointed as we had paid for bed and breakfast, and on the first morning the cooked offering was pretty good.
The location was in the charming town of Scalloway. Conveniently close to Lerwick and also scenic parts of Shetland.
Issues from the very beginning and poor service throughout. We stayed at Scalloway with a group of 13 people across 10 rooms. When we arrived, the hotel was at capacity and bar was full with only one person as staff. Rather than a smooth and warm check in, we were poorly received by an overworked and stressed woman. The situation was made worse by our incorrect reservation. Specifically, we booked two rooms with two twin beds, for guests who did not know each other and did not want to share a bed, but the hotel only offered us rooms with one bed each, meaning clients who did not previously know each other had to share a bed. How uncomfortable! Rather than taking accountability for this mistake, offering any kind of compensation or support, staff was unfriendly, rude and unsupportive. Beyond that, the wifi simply does not work in the hotel. The router was just outside of my room and it didn't work. I checked with three other guests in our group, and it didn't work for them either. Even messages weren't going through. In general, the place felt unclean. Dirty glasses were left in the hallways for a few consecutive days, a room smelled of cabbage, hallways smelled of a gross cleaning product. At the end of the stay, two guests were not feeling well and wanted to stay a couple hours later. When we asked about a late check out, we were first told it wasn't an option at all, and later offered the service for 20 pounds per hour. A ridiculous price, especially considering this could have been an opportunity for them to make amends in some simple gesture. A fine stay if you have low expectations and just need a basic place to stay. I would not recommend if you need wifi, or are hosting a group in any professional capacity. TO HOTEL MANAGEMENT: Hire more staff. These problems could have been perevented if there were simply a few people working at once. Also, update your system with Booking and Expedia to avoid incorrect room reservations.
Tradition und Moderne in Einklang. Kurze Distanzen im Hotel. Kurze Distanzen Bus, Geschäft, Hafen. Ruhige Lage.
Ventilator aussen Erdgeschoss.
Great location. Great room.
Food was ok but mixed and limited due to changes in the menu and staffing. Helpful staff made sure I could have a vegetarian meal.
Location.
I was made to understand that I would not be welcomed ordering food half an hour before last orders because they were busy. Sausage roll for me that night. Breakfast service equally slow I did not bother in the end. Small and tired room.
Mvh Steinar Olsen
Great location. Breakfast available on site along with a bar. Wifi worked well in my room on level 2.
Wifi didn’t work at all on one wing of level 3 but did on the other side of level 3.
The location is very good and our room was comfortable with a lovely view. The rooms have been refurbished in recent years and are a good standard.
Some confusion over dinner booking but the staff are clearly working hard and service a little disjointed. The younger staff need some customer service training - wine had been missed from our bill which we pointed out but no thanks offered. Breakfast staff off hand and no farewell or customer interaction on departure.
Excellent location, dog friendly and very welcoming staff.
Great staff.
Very clean, friendly staff
Beautiful room. Great view and facilities were excellent. Also a lovely team looking after all you could need. Would love to return. Highly recommended.
Lovely location with helpful staff
Bar was a bit noisy
Friendly place
Stairs
Clean bedroom and brand new bathroom. Good location.. Friendly staff.
Nothing we didn't like but we did get a sense that with a bit more finesse in food presentation it would have been really good. Unusually The food tasted much better than it looked. The breakfast egg was especially good.
Excellent staff - friendly and efficient. Easy parking and convenient location for exploring the whole island. Nice outlook Good food well presented. Enjoyed our stay TQ
2 flights of stairs!!
Hyggelig betjening, flott rom og fin utsikt
Frokosten var ikke god
It’s location suited us
Difficulties in communication due to phones not working and on check in the wifi not working Longish wait for a meal Pie ordered but when it arrived no pastry just stewed meat as run out of pie crust. ( I wasn’t warned) also gravy poured all over chips. The vegetables were very undercooked so that it was difficult to cut with a knife
Location.
The welcome was very cursory. We were told the bar /restaurant was closed and directed to a cafe down the road, which was very busy but welcomed us. We were given no introduction to the hotel, facilities, restaurant or bar. On our second day, it was more friendly and welcoming.
Location was perfect as we had our electric car with us, EV charging 5mins walk away, delightful village featured in the TV Shetland series 8, easy drive to Lerwick. The hotel owner, Mitch couldn’t have been nicer, finding us an excellent room, despite the fact hotel very busy and full of friendly good advice for places to visit.
Breakfast very good, but optional dinner in hotel less so. I believe it's hard to find a good chef in Shetland and the current one didn’t even turn up on the Sunday!! Clearly not the owner’s fault and I’m sure he’ll work hard to remedy this problem. Stairs to bedrooms are steep (no lift) so hard going for seniors like us. A better banister than the current one would help and - even better - banisters on both sides! These are only minor difficulties and don’t take away from the excellence of the bedrooms and bathrooms and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
Location. Amazing steak pie. Kate couldn't do enough for us, lovely lady. Good breakfast.
Beds
No dinner, no b/fast. They knew cook was sick but didn’t prepare anything - packaged muffins, no fruit.
Our room was very good.
The catering arrangements were rather disappointing.
Located on the harbour front with ample parking. The staff were a nice young team and the breakfast was great. It offers an alternative but closeness to Lerwick as accommodation there can be at a premium, The room was small but modern and the bathroom was great though the shower never get quite hot enough,
Others have mentioned the paper thin walls and noise from other rooms, this could be an issue but as we were not there on a Friday or Saturday we were not disturbed. Rooms are not serviced at weekends and mid week only some days. Penny pinching. Beds advertised as super king are not. They are std U.K. 160cm wide king beds. That’s a queen to Americans. That was my biggest gripe being used to 180 wide bed. The WiFi is poor in the rooms, often signal dropping out and nothing to do with because it’s Shetland, a hotel should have mesh repeaters and a fibre connection which is available in larger villages and towns. Failing that Starlink. This didn’t and at even with an occasional wifi signal it was poor. So easy to address Scalloway! Finally evening meal. We were not asked in advance if we needed a table and the dining room was full. We had to sit in the public bar were it was loud with foul language. But no trouble. Then we discovered half the menu was sold out so we ordered other items only for server to return to say further things were gone :( at this point I heard a friendly local apologise to another guest “the food used to be good here”. The meal we got was 5/10.
Super clean - welcoming and helpful staff - evening meals were good - well presented and good portions and value for money
Close to everything. Had a nice restaurant for dinner as we came in late.
Bathroom was updated, but it was a bit cramped feeling for me
Extremely comfortable room and bed. Very quiet. Lovely breakfast.
Don’t be put off by pub like exterior.
Nice little hotel, nice staff except see What don't you like. Very dog friendly. All in all I really enjoyed my stay despite the issues.
No Saucermeat available to order for 5 days despite being on breakfast menu. Breakfast on last day was a faulty towers-esque disaster. Ordered bacon, 2x black pudding slices, beans, tomatoes and mushrooms. All arrived after 25 mins (chef had "nipped out") or so except black pudding. Asked about this - waitress says "oh s**t". Chef is to make it. After much microwave whirring and dinging 5 minutes later ONE black pudding slice arrives. I stood up and walked out. Breakfast has now been 45 minutes and still did not receive what I ordered.
The location is fab and food was amazing.
The creaky stairs but also adds character to the building. Really nothing I didn’t like.
Room was very clean, comfortable and very well equipped
On behalf of myself Jonathan Clifton my Mum Lesley Clifton & my Uncle Graham Wood we would like to thank Robyn very much for all of her help friendliness & kindness during our stay at the lovely Scalloway Hotel in Scalloway Shetland which made us feel very welcome. We all enjoyed a lovely holiday & it was a great memory to my Nana & Grandad Terry & Irene Wood who lived in Scalloway the Shetland Isles with my Uncle Graham in a caravan for three years at the Point in the 1960s & my Nana brought my Mum over to Scalloway the Shetland Isles for a holiday in 1978 & Robyn gave us a book called Our Street to look through & we found some of my Grandparents friends they had made all these years ago in it which was great as we met up with my Grandparents friends & the lovely couple Sandra & Iain Gilfillan who now live in Anna & Billy Watts house r related to Robyn which is lovely we met up with Sandra & Iain at the Community Center with a nice lady called Sonya which was very nice & we visited Doreen & her son David Halcrow at their home in Scalloway which was very nice too they were all lovely people so Mum bought some copies of the book for us to bring back home & Robyn also suggested we to spoke to an elderly gentleman called Davie who Robyn had said Davie had excellent knowledge of the Shetland Isles & it’s people. We enjoyed watching some of the football games in the bar which Robyn managed to put on for us was very kind at the Scalloway Hotel Scalloway Shetland & we sat beside a nice chap called Mark who was there too & was very friendly. We enjoyed going to see DI Jimmy Perez house in Lerwick out of the series Shetland on the tv which is a great series & we enjoy watching.
Great location, very nice hotel and Robyn was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
We booked this hotel for the Up Helly Aa festival but were forced to cancel after major disruptions to the Shetland ferry service. In the days leading up to our stay, we repeatedly tried to contact the hotel and even involved the Booking.com team — none of us received a single response. We fully accept that our booking was non‑refundable and weren’t asking for a full refund. A partial refund, however, would have been a fair and ethical gesture given the circumstances. Instead, the hotel chose not to acknowledge any of our messages or emails. That silence speaks volumes about how they view their guests. Travellers should be cautious when booking here, especially given how common travel disruptions are in the Shetlands. A hotel that refuses to communicate when plans go wrong is not one you can rely on.
Fantastic place to stay in Scalloway. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff. Great cooked breakfasts and really nice dinner menu.
Everything in the room worked fine. There was a good choice for breakfast and evening meals
Location - proximity to the town and other places
Very poor sound insulation - loud disco below my room until 11pm on one night. Conscious of the shower being turned on in the room above and next door
Very comfortable room with spacious en-suite bathroom. Hosting team were very polite and helpful. Drinks in the bar were excellent value for money, probably the cheapest pints in Shetland. The cooked breakfast was amazing. Great location in Scalloway, near the shops and museum and plenty of parking nearby.
The only fault I had was that my room was above the kitchen and they did play their music loud, but as someone who worked in a kitchen in my teenage years I can understand it and it’s not like it was an all night rave, it was quiet from 10pm. Also couldn’t seem to turn the shower off without turning off the switch in the bedroom, had to get fully dry before I could switch it off.
Centrally located, with great parking nearby. Hotel was clean and comfortable with good food and great staff. Nicky was amazing.
Paid extra for a sea view, well worth it fabulous view. The breakfast was outstanding, cooked perfectly, easily one of the best I have ever had and I’m platinum life Marriott member. Staff excellent and ever so friendly. My wife and I and our two wee lhasso’s who were made equal welcome will definitely return to visit Shetland and there’s only one place I would stay.
Absolutely nothing, it’s not Lerwick but it’s only 10 minutes away and a gorgeous wee town
Nettes Hotel, netter Ort.
An extended stay at Scalloway Hotel due to adverse weather and ferry cancellations. Staff were very helpful in securing the additional 3 nights in dog friendly room. Room was clean and comfortable. Great bed and plenty of wardrobe space. We ate in the hotel 3 nights, twice in the bar and once in the restaurant. Whilst the food was great in the bar, we did have a slight complaint on portion size when in the Restaurant..., staff member quickly sorted for us. Overall happy to stay and will go back. Staff make the stay, very warm, welcoming and friendly.
The beds were comfortable the room warm with good facilities. The bar food was delicious and the breakfast hearty.
Mould in the shower stall
We were weathered in unexpectantly and staff very kind and helpful in making sure we had rooms.
Loves our stay, staff were friendly and helpful. Bed/room comfortable, bathroom clean. Dining was excellent, good breakfast and dinners. Would highly recommend and stay there again Thankyou.
I really liked the hotel and it was very quiet for my stay. Ear plugs were provided so I am guessing it can get noisy from the bar at times! My room (a single) was small but I liked it. The mirror in the bathroom (a lovely big mirror) was badly cracked - 2 long cracks - but not over the main area above the sink so it didnt bother me particularly. The room and bathroom were generally clean, though there was a fairly small amount of mould on the grout in the shower. Breakfast was good, though I didnt have a cooked breakfast, just continental, which I enjoyed, with both Regular and Oat Milk provided. The room was warm with a good heater andna heated towel rail. In all a very pleasant stay
We've been customers in the Bar only before, during Shetland Wool Week and were delighted to be staying there this year. It is a friendly, efficiently run hotel with good food and comfortable rooms.
Too short a stay despite an extra night due to stormy weather!
Everyone at the hotel was concerned for our comfort and well-being, they were very flexible when our travel plans were unexpectedly extended, the food was delicious, and it was an excellent base to explore Shetland. Would highly recommend!
The hotel was very welcoming as were the staff. It was a good place to travel fro in all our sightseeing trips. The barman was especially friendly . Rooms were clean , car parking was easy
Beautiful room overlooking the harbour was magnificent. Everyone was welcoming.
No on-site parking
Excellent breakfast with delicious eggs Benedict. Comfortable room. Friendly & welcoming staff. Great location on the water and near bus stop.
All good
Clean ,comfortable room. Breakfast satisfactory Friendly, welcoming staff
Great location as easy to access rest of island from there. Plenty of free parking by the hotel. Beds extremely comfortable. Modern bathroom with great water pressure. Lovely breakfast. Good value for money compared to other places.
This was not a problem for us but there was no lift for those with mobility issues.
Great location with nice view. Restaurant was especially good. Bed was comfortable. Wonderful breakfast included with the room.
No separation between shower and rest of bathroom which led to having to use shower at half strength or run the risk of flooding the entire bathroom. Wi-Fi was out for the duration of our stay.
It was easy to find, great place to do excursions from, all my group were happy. Breakfasts were good, and we have excellent evenings meals occasionally Staff very welcoming and the locals very friendly in the bar
Rooms were a little small for sitting around in, but we then went to the bar area.
Welcoming friendly atmosphere
One of the most friendly receptions, dining room staff and bar I have known since I lived in Shetland 60 years ago.
I loved the place !
