Reviewed May 22, 2026Small and cosy place to stay one night near Ōtorohanga town itself. Would have stayed longer if my travel itinerary allows. Although small, but it basically has all that you need. Breakfast of 4 slices of bread, fruits, orange juice, milk, coffee and tea were all in the room when Louise came out to welcome us when we arrived at 7pm and it was quite pitch dark. The drive to the back where the cabin is gravel with a bit of a slope but not too big concern. Motion sensor lights lit up when needed. Aircon with heat option available which is also a plus point. By the side near the bathroom has a guest book and a piece of information/instructions (suggest to paste this on the wall :) ). The whole layout is neat and tidy, not cluttered.
Couldn’t think of any (much better than my experience in Napier).

Reviewed May 4, 2026This little house has everything you need. The check-in was smooth even if we arrived a bit later in the evening. The place is clean, big enough, very cute decorated, the bed was comfy and we had a wonderful breakfast for the morning. A lot of small details made our stay amazing here. I would definitely come back.

Reviewed Apr 16, 2026宿に到着したらオーナーの方が出迎えてくれ、親切に対応していただきました。 お部屋は清掃が行き届いており、清潔感あふれる素敵なお部屋でした。 朝食はパン･フルーツ･グラノーラ･牛乳･ジュースが用意されていて、とても満足でした。 夜は満点の星空が見られるのでぜひ外に出てみてください。 1泊しか過ごせないのがとても惜しかったのですが、この宿のためにまたオトロハンガを訪れたいと思うほど最高な時間を過ごせました！

Neighborhood quiet.Linens/towels good.Fresh fruit,milk,orange juice a plus.Has toaster, microwave, kettle, French press and a very small refrigerator with way less usable space than you might think from photo.You get 10% discount at kiwiana store if you mention Louise. Room price is very good and you get what you pay for.
Cons: it is odd to drive across their yard to get to the room--which caused us some confusion upon arrival even with the sign at the drive.Room is tiny and was sweltering when we arrived-ac remote is old.Room is the back half of the garage but appears wellmade.No place to put luggage except on floor, dining table, or large chair(where you are instructed to put the unneeded bed pillows and blanket).Only a few pegs on wall for hanging jackets or clothes. No clothes hangers. I do not care for eating from containers of cereal/meusli/bread that others have used. As others have said washing dishes in the small bathroom sink is not a way to get items cleaned sufficiently. I think there could be storage efficiency improvements and a folding luggage rack would be nice. For laundry, it is their suggestion to hang clothing on the line in the garage around the back of the room. Personally,I would not stay here again. However, it is a very clean, budget-friendly, well located option in a great little town--just not for me.

Reviewed Mar 2, 2026We were met by Louise when we arrived, she was very friendly. The space was clean and neat, cozy without being overly filled with stuff. There was a table, chairs, cutlery and all things needed to eat or make a picknick for the next day. The breakfast assortment was very generous, especially with different choices of fruit. We were very happy with it. Location was good as well, close to the Waitomo caves and no noise from the street.
We had no complaints.

Louise a été adorable, elle nous proposer de mettre nos pains de glace pour notre glacière directement chez elle car ils ne rentraient pas dans le petit frigo de la chambre 🙏
Il manque juste un petit evier dehors pour laver la vaisselle, dans le lavabo ce n’est pas très pratique

Great breakfast supplied in the room ( muesli, toast, jam, orange juice, milk, treats, etc). Parking right next to the unit. Felt private as it was away from the house. Louise greeted us warmly when we arrived, but gave us privacy. Would certainly be happy to stay again if in the area.

Reviewed Dec 18, 2024Raz and Louise go above and beyond most stays we have experienced. For example, supply of fresh fruit . Fantastic for travellers. Also they picked us up from train station on arrival and also drove us the next day to our glowworm tour (a 25min drive) for merely the cost of petrol. We were amazed and so grateful. Absolutely faultless hosts..we would strongly recommend.
