The Hoops Inn & Country Hotel

Food was scrumptious and huge portions. Room very comfortable and lovely shower. Staff excellent, best service, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.

The Staff were attentive at all times and the Hoops Country Inn is an experience in itsself. The Menu was comprehensive and the food was exceptional Every evening of our four night stay was an experience. Well done Hoops.

The Double Bed could have been bigger but the size of the bedroom restricted this possibility.

We loved the quaintness of this place. Its oldy worldy but spotlessly clean and cosy. Staff are lovely and helpful. The food is great. Especially breakfast 😋

Tolles Inn direkt an der Straße. Das Restaurant ist sehr zu empfehlen, wir haben sehr gut gegessen und hatten danach auch einen schönen Abend am Schachtisch. Zimmer sind zweckmäßig eingerichtet und für uns völlig ausreichend. Bad war mit Badewanne ausgestattet. Sehr gutes Frühstück, wirklich überdurchschnittlich. Alle Mitarbeiter waren total freundlich. Wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen.

The staff were friendly and helpful. As a solo traveller you can sometimes feel a little uncomfortable - not here, the whole atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing. And the food was fantastic

A quaint old fashioned pub just outside Bideford. We stayed for 2 nights en route from Cornwall to home in Wales. I booked the last available room which was a superior room. It was very large with a four poster bed and a sitting area, It also had a large modern bathroom. I wouldn't have chosen this room but as it was the last one available I had no choice. However, it was perfectly fine, As you would expect from the age of the property, everything creaked and you could hear a fair bit of noise from the bar/ restaurant below. The staff were great, all very helpful and friendly, and hard working. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice, cooked to order so yes there's a bit of a wait but wasn't an issue. The evening meals were very good too.

Beautiful old property with wonderful features. Flowers and gardens made it so peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast and dinner was excellent! What a great chef 🤩 The staff were really lovely. Attentive, efficient and gave a happy smily service.

I suppose our room could have done with a refurbishment but given the price we can’t complain as it was very clean and had everything we needed. Saying this we would definitely stay again.

The building is beautiful, the beer garden is lovely, and the staff were very friendly. Both the dinner and the breakfast were great.

Lovely pub / hotel, it was a stop over on route for us. Pub was very comfortable, food was excellent, staff were friendly and attentive. Our room was a family room, it was the only one left, but was the same price as a double, so a bonus. Dog friendly, with good walks.

This is a beautifully maintained 13th century inn with ample parking, and a beautiful garden. Our room was spacious with a kind of four-poster bed. The bathroom was also spacious, and modern and bright. All staff were very friendly and accomodating. The food was delicious and inventive. The breakfasts were copious and catered for every taste. We spent three days at The Hoops Inn, and were sorry to leave!

We've visited The Hoops several times for food and have stayed overnight a couple of times before and it has always been a pleasurable experience. This time round we booked a "Superior" room which included a small four-poster bed and lovely en-suite bathroom. It was in the original part of the hotel and had a lovely stained glass window next to the bathroom. It was at the front of the hotel, facing directly onto the road but the traffic noise was not at all intrusive. We had dinner on the first night which was of excellent quality. There was a good choice of main courses on the menu across the price range, from which we both chose the duck breast which was delicious and perfectly cooked. After a very comfortable night's sleep (albeit the four-poster was JUST ABOUT long enough for me at 6 foot 1!!) we had a superb Full English breakfast, again with high quality ingredients across the board which was served (as was dinner) to residents in a lovely wood-panelled dining room totally separate from the public bars which are themselves very cosy and well appointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful without being at all intrusive. All in all, another excellent stay, great food and drink and a lovely relaxing atmosphere, perfectly reflecting the age and character of the Inn. Well done to all!!👍👍

Hardly anything!! At a push, the Four Poster bed could have done with being a few inches longer for me!! There was also some slight traffic noise even late at night so for families with young children we suggest a room at the rear of the hotel.

Schönes Familienzimmer holzvertäfelt mit Teppich, modernes Bad, sehr sauber, vielleicht etwas schattig aber für eine Nacht an heißen Tagen in Ordnung. Sehr sehr leckeres Frühstück inbegriffen. Essen im Restaurant auch abends sehr empfehlenswert. Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Direkter Zugang und Busanbindung (Haltestelle direkt vor der Tür) zum South West Coast Path.

Friendly staff, great service and food. Our dog loved her sausage for breakfast every day - a real treat! Hotel is in a great location and the ability to go for a walk straight from the hotel was great. Thoroughly recommended.

The Hoops was a wonderful surprise. Situated on the main road between Bideford and Clovelly, this beautiful traditional thatched coaching inn is full of character and charm. Nestled amongst picturesque Devon villages, The Hoops is perfect for a relaxing pit stop, a one-night stay, or as a base for exploring the surrounding area for a few days. There’s plenty of parking and fabulous gardens where you can unwind after a day of sightseeing while enjoying a local beer or cider. The menu offers everything from delicious light bites to traditional pub favourites, with excellent gluten-free options available. The rooms are comfortable, spotlessly clean, and offer excellent value for money. We especially appreciated having a bath in the bathroom—a real treat after a day of exploring—as well as the daily refreshments of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and biscuits. The star of the stay was undoubtedly the magnificent breakfast. The choice was outstanding, with full English, vegetarian, and vegan breakfasts available, alongside delicious porridge, cereals, fresh fruit, and more, all included in the bed-and-breakfast rate. The owner is an absolute delight and clearly takes great pride in ensuring every guest has a memorable stay. The Hoops is also wonderfully dog-friendly, with a separate dining area for guests travelling with their four-legged companions, making everyone feel welcome. If you’re looking for a traditional Devon inn with warm hospitality, great food, comfortable accommodation, and a fantastic location, The Hoops is a gem that I’d happily recommend and would love to visit again.

I think for the price of this accommodation you can’t really complain. It’s super value for money.

It was a lovely old building as expected with lovely gardens to sit out in the evenings. Nice large car park.

There were very few places to sit and drink as most tables were booked for diners. Not a great choice of food on the menu, but, the food was good especially the breakfast and was good to be served at the table rather than a buffet.

The Hoops ist ein uralter Pub mit unglaublich leckerem Essen. Das Hotel selbst ist zwar nichts Besonderes, aber durchaus in Ordnung. Das Frühstücksmenü ist umfangreich und bietet für jeden Geschmack etwas. Uns hat es sehr gut geschmeckt. Zum Abendessen gab es eine super leckere Gerichte! Wir haben an allen Abenden dort gegessen und wären aus dem Grund gerne länger geblieben, da wir nicht alles probieren konnten. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Room of modest size but clean and comfortable. Excellent bath/shower facilities. Rear of courtyard so little road noise.

The food was great with massive portions. However, waiting up to forty minutes for orders to arrive from the kitchen is a bit testing and wants improvement.

Bedroom was poor. Sockets not working. Bed on a slope. Small fan could not cope with the hot weather. Extractor fan in bathroom not working. Would not recommend stay. Evening meal not great.

Dog friendly, our Dacshund loved the field and the garden. He was also spoilt with a sausage for breakfast each morning. Lovely garden seating area. Breakfast was excellent.

Breakfasts were fine. Dinner on first night was good, but disappointing on the second night, Dining room and bar are attractive, but the lounge is poor. Chairs inappropriate for age and style of property. wingchairs with higher backs would be more appropriate. The staff could not be faulted - friendly and helpful.

The food was excellent. Good choice of menu and the best breakfast ever. All the staff were very friendly. A beautiful old inn with a lovely beer garden and a great location for visiting places in the area. The room was nice and clean...would have liked a mirror in the room though. There was one in the bathroom but not ideal for doing hair and make up.

The dinner was good and served in a friendly manner. The breakfast was excellent. Again friendly staff and good service. A fan was provided as the weather was exceptionally hot.

The breakfast finally arrived, having waited and waited for things to arrive whilst reminding them of what was missing like our toast! No one would come and ask if we were happy and satisfied with the service. At least great people with a smile and a friendly approach. No safe in the room (looked more like a Den) as expected

We needed to leave very early one morning to catch the Lundy ferry. They readily arranged to make a tasty packed lunch for us instead of breakfast.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast one of the best for flavour and presentation. The meals in the evening were excellent and fairly priced.. The gardens looked lovely but unfortunately we couldn’t use them due to the weather.

Fabulous family room. Large, clean and comfortable. Lovely old pub and staff. Despite village wide power cut, hotel arranged generator and my cooked breakfast was saved...and delicious!

Parking up steep (for pensioners) hill and didn't see drop off point sign until walking back down.

Lovely location with beautiful gardens and walks. The pub was full of old character. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful.

The room was a bit dated although a nice new bathroom.

Our room was much larger than expected, very comfortable, and pleasantly quiet throughout our stay. The food was also of a good standard, with both the quality and variety exceeding our expectations.

From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, everything was perfect for us. No fuss booking in, beautiful garden in which we could unwind with a beer and a wine, superb dinner (we both had the plaice) and a lovely quiet comfy room to finally retire to. In the morning we were treated to a fantastic English breakfast which kept us both going until teatime. My wife and I were made to feel very welcome which is not always the case as we both ride large motorcycles. We would absolutely recommend a stay here.

Hôtel charmant!! Chambre parfaitement équipée, petit déjeuner parfait.. et les petites douceurs offertes à notre chien😙. Un jardin ravissant derrière pour y prendre un thé. Nous reviendrons lors de notre prochain séjour en Angleterre🤗

Zimmer sind sehr klein, aber für uns passte das so.

Hôtel très typique avec beaucoup de charme : le vrai hôtel Inn anglais comme on l'imagine. Très bon restaurant, des plats copieux et délicieux. Ambiance et décoration de pub anglais très appréciées. Petit-déjeuner complet et de qualité. Vaste parking gratuit à l'arrière de l'hôtel.
