Reviewed Aug 14, 2026Nous étions venus pour une seule nuit… et finalement, nous avons tellement aimé que nous avons décidé de rester plusieurs jours de plus !
L’accueil est exceptionnel. Notre hôte est adorable, très sociable, parle parfaitement anglais et avec lui, on pourrait discuter pendant des heures. Un grand merci également à Mahinda et Sonita, toujours souriants et aux petits soins pour que l’on se sente bien.
La nourriture est délicieuse, généreuse et authentique. Le cadre est magnifique : des rizières juste à côté et un petit lac où l’on peut faire du kayak gratuitement.
Nous avons aussi fait une balade à vélo jusqu’à un autre lac, absolument magnifique. Le paysage était tellement beau qu’on avait vraiment l’impression d’être dans un rêve.
Nous avons également fait une randonnée avec un guide du village voisin et avons eu la chance de voir des animaux… mais on ne va pas spoiler ! 😉 C’était magique.
Les enfants ont adoré, et nous aussi. Si vous voulez découvrir un Sri Lanka authentique, loin des endroits touristiques, c’est vraiment l’endroit idéal.
Le prix peut sembler un peu plus élevé que la moyenne au Sri Lanka, mais ça vaut largement le coup au vu de l’accueil, des repas, du cadre et de l’expérience.
Après un mois de voyage, c’est sans aucun doute notre plus beau séjour. ❤️

Tanto por el entorno que es precioso, parece una escena de pelicula, por una lado puedes ver el lago con sus árboles característicos y sus muchas aves y por el otro lado del camino arrozales. El alojamiento esta muy cuidado y bonito. Jarren es un anfitrión fantástico, te trata como reyes. El personal y la cocinera son geniales. Te preparan comida típica de Sri lanka muy rica, te dan de merendar con dulces típicos y postres.
Realizamos una excursión maravillosa.
También tiene bicis y kayak a disposición por si quieres utilizarlos.
Si tenéis la oportunidad alojaros.

Reviewed Apr 23, 2025The stay gave us an out-of-this-world experience. The Loft blended in exceptionally well with the stunning beauty of Embogama. This experience was a much-needed detox for our minds as the peaceful environment made us forget the stresses of city living. The meals were so tastefully prepared, and the experiences gathered from going around the village will definitely make us revisit the Loft again and again!

Reviewed Apr 15, 2025We stayed at the loft for two nights in April with our kids (ages 7 and 3), and it was truly a unique and memorable experience—we absolutely loved it!
The food was delicious, and the caretakers, Mahinda and Sunitha, were incredibly warm and hospitable. There's plenty to do around the property, but even if you just want to unwind, it's a perfect spot. The cool breeze and lush greenery create such a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere.
While there’s no A/C, the fans worked well as long as the windows were left open to let the breeze in. Just remember to use the nets at night to keep out small insects—nothing alarming, just something to be mindful of in a nature-filled setting.

The surroundings were stunning, with peaceful, lush greenery that created such a calm and tranquil atmosphere. It was the perfect place to unwind and truly experience peace of mind.

Reviewed Aug 25, 2024The food was quite tasty, the couple Mahinda and Suneetha prepares the food out of their soul and tries their best to make the stay memorable. The ingredients (Vegetables, tank fish) are sourced locally and fresh. The food is very good and especially when you want to try local Sri Lankan food (Game kema).
The location is absolutely stunning surrounded by many lakes and kids loved swimming in lakes than getting in to a pool. The location has a view of the mountain (morning gets covered with mist), a lake in front (frequented by so many varieties birds), and a paddy field in front. There is so much of green space to relax the mind. The night is very quiet and relaxing.
So much of things to keep the kids occupied with lake baths, cycling, visiting a Chena for experience etc.
I took it as an opportunity to show my children and let them experience typical Sri Lankan village life, Village food and what it is to live closer to nature.
The owner, Hareendra genuinely tries to make sure you are well looked after and coordinates with Mahinda and Suneetha. The couple puts every effort to make sure all your requirements are met and you are satisfied.
It was a memorable stay and definitely will be travelling again.

Each morning, we were greeted by the breathtaking sight of the sun rising over the lake, casting golden hues across the water. The balcony of our hotel room became our private gateway to witness the majestic flight of eagles and the vibrant dance of bee-eaters, creating moments that were nothing short of magical.

Reviewed Mar 10, 2024Loft by the Lake offered the most peaceful time in rural Sri Lanka, surrounded by beautiful tanks and paddy fields.
Situated in an idyllic spot by the Ehetuwewa tank, the Loft was cosy and comfortable with great views of the surrounding area. The caretakers, Mahinda and Sunitha looked after all our needs with a smile. They made sure that we had delicious Sri Lankan meals and also accompanied us to a quiet spot to watch the sunset and to find the best bathing spots.
Because there was no light pollution, the night skies were beautiful! And the dawn chorus offered us the most unusual bird calls! Bird life was in abundance and a family of Grey Hornbills (alu kadatta) flying right in front of our eyes was a fascinating experience :)
We will be back soon to explore more!

Reviewed Feb 25, 2024The loft was beyond expectations. A simple, rustic but comfortable and lovely place. The view from the lodge and the surroundings was beautiful. No AC, but who needs AC when there's a cool breeze that can literally blow you away all day long?
Rooms and bathrooms were very clean. The staff is amazing. Lovely food. Awesome location. We are already missing the lovely breeze... Highly Recommended

Reviewed Dec 23, 2023Loft by the Lake is an enchanting getaway that exceeded all our expectations! The caretaker Mahinda ensured every aspect of our stay was perfect. He was were attentive, welcoming, and truly made us feel at home. Suneetha, with her culinary skills, served us delicious and authentic local dishes, turning each meal into a memorable experience.
For our kids, it was a dream come true. The 'mini adventures' around the property kept them thrilled and engaged. They loved the nature walks, where they could explore the beautiful surroundings, and bathing in the tank was an absolute hit! They were also thrilled to see elephants in their natural habitat, which was an educational and exciting experience for them.
As for relaxation, this place is a sanctuary for rejuvenation. The serene environment, coupled with the comforting ambiance of the loft, allowed us to unwind and recharge. Every evening was a peaceful retreat by the lake, where we could soak in the tranquility and beauty of nature. The balance between adventure and relaxation at Loft by the Lake is impeccable, making it an ideal destination for families looking for a unique and fulfilling holiday experience. We left with hearts full of joy and memories that will last a lifetime. Highly recommended for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life!
