Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Location was nice, just a few minutes walk into the main town and in the other direction the same distance to a lovely quiet beach with clear water. Room was rustic but spacious with a comfy bed and good mosquito net. We really appreciated having the outdoor patio space to dry wet swim stuff and had an overall good stay.
Sound travelled very well into the room and you could hear music/neighbours at all hours, earplugs recommended. Upstairs shared bathroom could’ve been cleaner at times.
I absolutely love it here. The owners are so friendly helpful. They are always on hand to ask any questions to and you can see that they love getting involved in any tasks around the place. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean and spacious and the communal areas were great for chilling and playing cards. They have a happy hour every day which is a nice cheap way of meeting other backpackers. Love love loved the music bingo! I really hope I can back again next year!
We loved our stay at Lovesick, after a couple nights we decided to extend our stay as we enjoyed it so much. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and welcoming, which created a great atmosphere. The location is perfect, right on the beach and a short walk to plankton beach!
Tolle Stimmung, sehr nette Menschen, hilfsbereites Personal und neues, sauberes Hostel.
Close to every restaurants and to beautiful beaches The staff was friendly
No AC, no wifi I wanted a calm hostel after being on kho rong island, I wanted to relax, there was loud music late at night, they did warned me in the welcome message after I booked my stay but it’s not refundable so it doesn’t change anything
A group of young people are doing their best to run this hostel. They are friendly and helpful.
There is no hot water, and the bathrooms and toilets are not clean. There are only two bathrooms. There is no hot water and Wi-Fi and Mirrors :( You can stay here, but in my opinion, it’s not worth the high price.
Great island location, staff very friendly Basic accomodation walls are very thin in the private rooms
Had a private room but could hear everything in the other rooms as its very thin walls and everytime someone went to the bathroom your room Lit up with the lights from outside and their was noise from the banging doors
Hans and Lauren are there to help out with whatever you need and it’s clear they want everyone to have a great stay here. They had a team of volunteers always around and good music on at night. Great place to stay if you want to socialise.
I liked everything really, Lauren and Hans are great hosts and always helpful, and so all the volunteers. A great team. Enjoyed myself and if it weren't for me booking the wrong airport I would have stayed longer 🤪
Lovely hostel with a beautiful location and super friendly staff. The small bar in front is perfect for socializing. And it's only a short walk to the fluorescent plankton. The rooms are all wooden, very comfortable and don't get too hot even without Aircon.
The doors are a bit loud and get slammed quite a bit by the guests.
The location is good. Staff is friendly.
The fan isn’t enough to cool down in the extremely hot room. Also there were a lot of mosquitos. The two persons bed was provided with a dirty mosquito net, but the bunk bed didn’t have any mosquito net. Also from the ceiling there were things falling down on the bed. Also an old toothbrush was found under the bed. And the bottom of the bed was bad, because it was hanging through the wooden bottom.
If you are looking for luxury, Koh Rong Sanloem probably isn’t for you, but if you want a truly authentic experience with truly beautiful people it’s the best place. I loved my stay here. I went fishing with some mates separate to the hostel and they let me cook the fish on their bbq and we had a big feast all together. Totally what travelling is all about
The dorm walls are made of bamboo at the moment which wasn’t a problem for us but I can see why some people would get arsey about it. But they’re starting renovations to turn them into proper concrete walls so shouldn’t be an issue next year
Very flexible for early and late checkout. The shared bathrooms were tended to regularly to ensure they were clean. Great vibes from the people running it.
I had a really nice time while staying here - 100% recommend
The hostel is super social. The boat party was really fun and you can see that the owners really want guests to have a good time Big spacious dorms Really cute pets
There were no walls - so everything from the front desk and common area could be heard & smelled from the bed. You could smell anytime was smoking a cigarette while trying to sleep. The door didn’t close so there was always a cat in the room (I’m allergic). You could hear and smell whenever they put out food for the dogs. It rained one night and water leaked all over my bag. I tried to ask if I could check out earlier and find somewhere else but they said it wasn’t possible. No wi-fi available
Great location in Mpai bay, closest accommodation to the beach in the area. All restaurants and the port are very close walking distance too. Owners are very friendly and knowledgeable about the island. Pool table and common area are great, they sell some drinks there but no food. Bed in private room was big and comfy, has a mosquito net.
The hostel has a serious the lack of noise proofing. Unfortunately our room backed onto the toilets… you can hear everything on the rooms either side of you and in the corridor. We actually had a conversation with our friends through the wall at normal volume. Bathrooms could do with some more regular cleaning. No air con in room but has a fan.
Nice staff and friendly vibe in the hostel! Beds had mosquito nets and were comfortable.
The dorm we stayed had bamboo walls and was in the same area as the bar playing loud music until late at night. I get that it is a party hostel but it should be more clear when booking that you are pretty much sleeping in a bar. Really need proper walls or move the bar further away. Bathrooms also need a bit of a touch up.
Comfortable beds and moscito nets, good location
Not social because almost everyone staying there is a volunteer and they mostly just hang out as a group, no chill area to hang out in, hostel is still new and not quite finished building, the volunteers are also not very helpful if you have questions. I personally think 8€ a night is too much for what you’re getting
The place itself was perfect, the rooms had mosquitos nets and reallygood fans (doesn’t even need AC as we were quite cold with the fans). The staff made it even better tho, so welcoming from the start and always happy to recommend places to go and say what was going on at the hostel without pressuring you to join in (watching the six nations, bonfire)
It’s really great value for money. While the cheapest accommodation on the island, you have everything you need. The staff are volunteers, so very easy to connect with everyone as they are likeminded travellers. Everyone speaks perfect English. So spending time with the people at the hostel in the evenings is also really enjoyable if you like to socialize. The beach is super close - closer than any other hostel. And it’s still also close to all the restaurants, the pier etc. The owners are a super nice English couple who have taken on such a cool endeavor to fix up an abandoned place and enrich the island with another sweet home for backpackers and volunteers.
I was personally happy with everything, but I could understand some reviews here that were complaining about certain things. This hostel might not be for you, if you are looking for privacy or luxury. But in my opinion, you figure that out based on the booking ad already. Come with the right expectations and you will love your stay for sure!
Let me start by saying that I had a great stay at the Lovesick and in M'Pay Bay. The hostel is located just at the edge of the little town, two minutes from a beautiful beach and 2 minutes from the main road. Everything in this place is close together and I feel it is a perfect place to decelerate and leave the hustle of the cities behind. The owners were very friendly, as was the staff and I felt at home from day 1. My room was spacious with a beautiful sea view. It had a mosquito net and a fan (everything I need to sleep) and the beds were decent. Overall, it was a good stay for the price I paid.
I give this place a 6 despite my good experience for several reasons. First, this is a very rudimentary hostel. If I compare this with other hostels that I graded higher it falls behind. There's no coffee in the morning, no food, the showers are run down (although they were improving while I stayed there), the garden is not clean, etc. It is a young hostel and needs some development. Secondly, throughout my stay, I experience a lack of service mindset. On multiple occasions, no drinking water was available at the bar (but there was always plenty of beer). The personnel did not know much about the services and things to do on the island or where to find WiFi. I felt left to my own devices to make my stay on the island memorable. This lack of service mindest was reflected in many little things too, e.g. one day a cat brought a mouse back and the mouse blood was just left on the terrasse floor or after my stay for 8 days nobody asked me how I liked my stay. Lastly, the noise. While it is not stated on booking, com, other websites say it is a party hostel. The owner specifies this in some responses to reviews on booking. I have no issue with the concept of a party hostel or a good party here and there. Nevertheless, in Lovesick this means that at any time on any given day, anyone can play music from the speakers as lound as they please for as long as they please. The walls in this hostel are rather thin so it is no surprise that people often complained and could not sleep. Again, I think party hostels are fine and if you know when and for how long the party will last you can deal with it. I would strongly advise the owners to create a bar policy (bar until 11, afterward it is quiet and once a week there's a bigger party until early morning).
On arrival and through our stay staff/ volunteers were helpful. We were checked in within minutes and shown to our bunk. Location of the hostel was super convenient when heading to the beach (2 min walk) and for food. Owners provided recommendations and helped us when we needed travel advice from the island.
Where to start….when we were shown to our room (6 bed bunk dorm) it was quickly made obvious that not all the beds were the same and some mainly on the top bunk were missing mosquito nets. We were informed that the remaining nets are a work in progress but during our 4 night no change or progress was made. As a top bunk sleeper during our stay with no mosquito net, my body ended up looking rather disgusting from being bitten. My boyfriend who was on the bottom bunk with a mosquito net was also bitten all over during the night which makes us think mosquitos couldn’t be the only biting bugs in our beds…. The bunk beds also had no bar to stop you from falling off the bed (not that anyone did) but I was slightly concerned for my safety. Each bed was however provided with a fan on the bed that only had 2 working setting out of 4 and still it was incredibly hot during the night. Moving on to the facilities. We were told by the owners that the hostel is still really new but in my opinion there should be some cleanliness standards even when you are new. The showers and toilets were together in 3 blocks and the floor would be looking incredibly sandy everyday. Not certain how the volunteers split their cleaning duties but someone was not pulling their weight. This meant that by the end of the day when you wanted to have a shower, you’d have to step into a rather grimy looking space, clear the sand from the floor where you’re standing and then have your shower. One thing we should have realised from the pictures on booking.com but it wasn’t that obvious to myself was that there would be nightly entertainment almost every single night and by nightly entertainment I mean music until 1am in the morning. As the crowed staying in this hostel was on the younger side, with music came singing. Don’t get me wrong, myself and my boyfriend like a sing song and to hang out with others but when we want to sleep we would like to sleep.
My stay at this hostel couldn’t have been better! It’s in a great location, super clean, safe, and has an amazing social atmosphere. A special shoutout to the volunteers and owners, who made me feel at home from the very first moment. Their warmth and energy truly made all the difference. I 100% recommend this place to any traveler looking for a memorable experience!
Great atmosphere, very chilled during the day and good fun at night time
Great Value for money! Right on the beach and a really short walk to the restaurants and cafe’s so a great location. Lovely communal space which included a stunning terrace and outdoor egg chairs.
Incredible social vibe! Owners are just amazing, this hostel has been one of the highlights of my SE Asia trip (if not the highlight) and would go back to Cambodia specifically to stay here again!
Nothing at all, perfect!
Lovely hostel run by equally as lovely owners! Great location right on the beach, I'd recommend the boat trip the hostel runs, you're able to see loads of the island and meet lots of people! Best mosquito nets for the beds we've had so far as well!
Lovesick Hostel is a wonderful place! Run by Lauren and Hans, a young English couple, it has a relaxed, homey feel that makes it easy to meet people. The hostel is simple and no-frills, but much more sociable than the big chain hostels and the spacious private rooms are great value. You can’t beat the beachfront location, the hostel is located on the edge of town but only a short 5min walk away from pretty much everything. As it’s only recently opened, the owners and volunteers are still making a few improvements, but it didn’t take away from the experience. Can’t wait to see how it develops—would definitely recommend!
Location. Beds are comfortable. Great friendly atmosphere. Price is right.
A bit of flies outside and some mosquitoes inside but you live next to the forest so no complaints.
I had a great experience staying at Lovesick Hostel on Koh Rong Sanloem. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. They are very pet-friendly, which was perfect for me and my dog, who loved roaming around and making friends. The hostel is still new and improving, and I can see its potential to be one of the best on the island. However, some small upgrades, like water heaters, more furniture in the rooms and bathrooms, and making drinking water more accessible, would go a long way. Overall, it was a lovely stay with lots of charm and promise!
The location is great! Restaurants and beaches are very close, but this place still has its own peace. Owners and volunteers are very nice and helpful ✌ Thank you!
Beautiful pets, beautiful people, beautiful location. Couldn’t have wished for anything better on my first solo trip. They showed sports when people asked but it didn’t make up the whole atmosphere so I could enjoy yoga during the day in peace. Would 100% recommend and will be coming back at the end of my trip
I'm a lone traveller and I booked to stay here in the mixed dorm for 1 night, honestly couldn't be happier with my stay here. The owners are a lovely young couple just starting out, they made me feel so welcome from the minute I arrived, such wonderful people. The location is incredible right on the beach and at such an affordable price. Everyone staying there was really friendly and the facilities were great and incredibly clean, I wish I could've stayed for much longer than one night. You will not be disappointed!!!
Nothing. Could not fault this place at all.
Hospitable hosts, friendly atmosphere
A new place that seems to be very popular already. It is near the plankton (bioluminescent) viewing and all of the beaches. Of course, the town and the dock for boat taxi services are all right nearby within 5 to 10 minutes of walking. It is a small town so everything is convenient.

Lovesick is an amazing unique hostel, with young owners that are super friendly and want you to have a good time while you stay there. They go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and that you enjoy your time in Mpai Bay. They recommend events at different venues in the village, and also don’t mind having a party occasionally at the hostel. There is also a boat party/ trip to other beaches and a lighthouse visit. You can’t beat it for only $10! It’s got lovely vibes and it’s great for socialising with the chill area and pool table. The location is perfect, you’re on the beach and 2 minutes away from the main high street. If you’re lucky the plankton at night time can be seen really well at the beach that’s a 5 minute walk from the hostel. The hostel is nearly brand new so everything was clean, and the volunteers & staff do their very best for the guests. You should definitely stay here in Mpai Bay!
Nothing
The hostel was amazing!! It is newly renovated & the owners Lauren & Hans have done an incredible job with the place! It is very clean & has a large social area with bar, pool table & sofa area to relax making it very easy to socialise & meet new people. The hostel is in the perfect location right on the beach! There is also a plankton beach a short walk from the hostel which was incredible at night & the hostel is very close by to delicious restaurants. 100% recommend Love Sick hostel if you’re staying in M’Pai bay!
Had the most amazing time here. It was great for meeting people and socialising, with an amazing bar with pool table and sports. The owners were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. And the location was amazing, with great views and beach. And for the money you pay, it’s absolutely incredible value. Can’t wait to come back!
Sweet young British couple who knows how to take care customer and service. Super good pool table.
Nothing bad to say ! Me and my Cambodian girlfriend will come back.
comfortable beds and there was a fan.
This hostel is just a few weeks old, so I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially since the owners were initially nice. That was until I was woken up at 3AM to some people turning on their sound system full blast and being insanely loud for over an hour. Everyone walked out of their private rooms and were absolutely shocked what was happening. I put on my noise cancelling earphones and played some white noise full blast but could still hear them through the thin walls. Never have I ever experienced something this blatant in over 30 countries of travelling. For those that want to party, sure this place could be for you. But for those that actually seek relaxation, I'd truly avoid this place. Also, there never was anyone at reception and I understand they just opened, but the whole thing seemed disorganized. I'm sure their hostel will become better, such as more chill areas, but honestly there seemed to be a lot better places on my walk through town with a much better atmosphere. I wish I stayed elsewhere - perhaps I would have actually gotten a night's sleep.
Good location Spacious and clean rooms - full length in private room Friendly pets Owners initially very welcoming and knowledgeable
Music going on till 4am on a random Monday with no pre-warning to any of the guests sleeping upstairs. Ear plugs made no difference. When we asked to turn the music down we were told it was a party hostel by the owner, although this is not mentioned on booking.com. No soundproofing between rooms - can hear every noise from neighbours room and the bathroom.
Loved the beach location, chill vibes and social atmosphere. Felt so welcome, I stayed longer!
Wow what a fantastic little gem, great location and a must for travellers
Nothing to complain about very happy with everything
It’s on the beach overlooking the sea… rooms were clean and comfortable and it’s very spacious. Staff were super friendly and flexible and we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend this place on this cool island! I way preferred it to Koh Rong.
Nothing
It’s very spacious and in a beautiful location. My favourite part was the private beach!!
The location is perfect, right next to the beach and easy access to all of Mpai bay. The dorms are cosy and the pool table is always a great time!
The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the space is absolutely beautiful. There is so much land and it goes all the way down to the beach so you can sunbath without other people getting in the way. They have the cutest, most well behaved pets too who always love a cuddle. We will definitely be coming back in the future
