Beautiful setting and a wonderful building. Very comfortable
Very poor quality food and staff presentation and management poor
Everything
Grand
Utterly charming, idealyic location, stunning views, very relaxing, staff amazing.
There are alot of nooks & crannies, quite dusty/ cob webs, windows not so clean… doors not soft closing, but i was happy to overlook all this as everything else makes up for it, and its such a grand building would be hard to be pristine.
After looking at the reviews of this place I would just like to say the staff that were on when I was there were fantastic, tentative and polite. The room was clean, the parking was easy and the communal spaces very opulent. We had a balcony which overlooked the back of the golf course and was beautiful to sit on while it was raining. Pool was nice and is open from early till late. The grounds are lovely and a big reason I booked here, with the palaces deep history. It’s also a quick walk into the quaint town of gatehouse. The breakfast was good for my vegetarian partner who had the option of eating what was on the normal buffet or a full vegetarian breakfast made in the kitchen and brought out. For me the tattie scones and haggis always win me over. Everything tasted proper and always set us up nicely for the day.
Windows looking out from the pool area were a bit dirty
Every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Room was exceptionally large.
Nothing
The food was lovely and staff especially Margaret and Michael were amazing.
The curtains in the bathroom in room 117 were filthy, it looked like blood stains and rust. Not nice at all.
Setting and grounds, the hotel is beautiful oldie worldly excellent breakfast.
Too hot indoors
The approach to the hotel and surrounding countryside is special. Spotlessly clean. The evening meal is very good and we would rate it as 3/4 star
In need of a major refurbishment - secondary glazing doesn't hide the rotting sash windows Creaking floor boards - thankfully our room was on the top floor 'Ancient' shower facilities The breakfast was limited but would pass as a 2/3 star
Our stay was very comfortable and we would like to visut again in the future.
The approach to the hotel is through a beautiful long forest drive leading to the premises and golf course. It's a truly stunning, peaceful setting, like arriving at Downton Abbey.
The dated decor and rooms with furniture that has seen better days and fixtures and fittings that are not compatible with today's technology, such as proper charging ports or plenty of plugs. My bed was so lumpy I'd have had a better sleep out on the gravel car park. I also found the door to the toilet opened literally onto the toilet. If someone collapsed behind it from sitting on the toilet you wouldn't be able to access the room. The toilet hadnt been cleaned properly. I stayed in a similar room (107) last year on the Forest Wing and there were bathrobes. There were none in this room (104). It was also really dark with little natural light. I had to have the lights on even during the day.
Setting, location, size of room, helpful staff
Food -at dinner overpriced
Beautiful location
The room was very disappointing, the carpet was stained and ripped. The furniture was old and random. The bathroom was clean but was old in needed replaced as well as the floor covering.
Excellent
Nothing was an issue
Good selection of breakfast items
More selection on evening meals, more vegetarian options
We have stayed at the Cally Palace Hotel on numerous occasions and we love every aspect. The beautiful old genteel style, the warm welcome from lovely professional staff and the fabulous food!!! Fantastic value for money in every respect - BRILLIANT!!!
We loved everything!!!
Spacious rooms, real character and generous space in public areas. Golf course very enjoyable, quiet so you can determine your own pace of play
The hotel is understaffed, during my visit staff were under pressure trying to deliver the standard of service they would wish to deliver. Internally the hotel was clean, bedroom windows were not clean
The hotel is amazingly beautiful but needing refurbished. Generally the food was not up to standard. The reception staff were more than happy to help and very professional
Food was poor but highly priced. Service in the dining room was poor.
Food was great would recommend Venision pie golf course was very good staff friendly and helpful
Room was slightly hot as the hesting was on when we arrived although the staff found a fan which was really appreciated
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. We had our honeymoon here 40 years ago and it’s just as special now as it was then. A stunning property with friendly staff and a great pool/spa area
I wouldn’t change anything.
Location is lovely
Member of staff had attitude problem when I reported that my room had no toilet rolls on arrival. Strutted off, mumbling, its only toilet rolls. Apparently he is leaving this week, but I was still a paying guest whose room was not up to standard and that should have been then end of the matter. I went out for about an hour and on return, still no toilet rolls so had to ask again before they were provided. Rooms (119)are also becoming worn and dated with grouting around shower black. General upkeep of building (roof areas near pool which are seen from corridors etc) becoming tatty - building looks as though is becoming run down and unless money spent will only deteriorate further which is a shame.
Beautiful location and interior of the palace is gorgeous
Surroundings and grandeur. Great food.
Too hot everywhere and slightly dated.
Beautiful location. Good sized Swimming pool. Large rooms. Tea and coffee making facilities good and replenished. Breakfast was good.
Our room had badly worn carpets and decor was so outdated. Our check-in was functional but not at all welcoming. Our room hadn’t been serviced when we returned at 3.30pm.
I will definitely be booking here again there is nothing to dislike about this place, it’s absolutely stunning the staff are really friendly the food and the service is excellent, would highly recommend.
Downstairs lounges and evening meal. Beautiful setting
Old and creaky. Very hot. Old fashioned rooms and uncomfortable beds. Basic breakfast
Very impressive hotel in beautiful surroundings, the public rooms were lovely and the breakfast was very good. The leisure facilities were excellent and very warm!
The only criticism we could say is that the hotel is looking a little tired in places but we do appreciate that it is a very old very large building and upkeep must be very challenging. This would in no way stop us from staying here again.
Location, golf course, room. Pam the receptionist was extremely helpful and friendly.
Breakfast very good good selection of everything needed to make it very good our room was the largest we have Ever stayed in
I don think there was any thing I could complain about
Breakfast great Location good for visiting family
Beautiful hotel. Delicious food and reasonably priced.
Beautiful location, lovely staff, excellent family room. Very welcoming
The dinner food is outstanding
Buffet breakfast some cold some over heated
Beautiful house in great surroundings. Lovely swimming pool and golf course. Very good food and helpful staff. As other reviewers have noted the room decor is tired but the rooms and bathrooms are clean. It’s great value for money and we would definitely stay again.
Good quiet location in a fine old building. The quality of the food for the evening meal was very good. Swimming pool was excellent.
Reception staff on departure were friendly but on arrival we were ignored for some time by two reception staff who did not acknowledge our presence and continued a conversation with other hotel staff. No words of welcome were given. Not a good start.
Stunning entrance to the hotel. Grounds were lovely. Swimming and sauna was great too that was a bonus
It’s a lovely building but the room we were in was just a bit dated. It was clean though
There is a beautiful grand staircase inside the entrance to the hotel . The interior decorations and furniture are out of this world. Beautiful rooms throughout. It is elegant. This is a very classy hotel.
Nothing.
No lift
Disappointed that some breakfast dishes had a mark-up price. The basic buffet was adequate but no more. The food was warm though and well prepared. Fruit salad at breakfast was mainly apple-based - we have an apple intolerance in the family! The property is in sensationally beautiful grounds. Evening meals were very very good. A wide- ranging menu, excellently prepared and presented.
Spacious and interesting interior was a bonus. But it must cost a lot to maintain and at times cut corners were apparent. It may seem strange to say, but our room was strangely large - more like a dormitory. And one with ill-fitting curtains.
Location and grounds
Tired decor and room, dinner expensive and not particularly flavourful- not great. Small portions. Could be cleaner but not awful.
Beautiful like a stately home
Nothing
I loved the setting of it, it was so beautiful and peaceful.
I liked everything and will be back.
The hotel is very imposing and the location is lovely with lot's of beautiful countryside in the immediate vicinity. The swallows/ swifts? that were nesting in the roof are lovely to watch, coming right up to the windows. It was clean and very quiet at night and our (superior) room was spacious, though along with the rest of the building, starting to look a little care worn. Our meal in the restaurant was good. The local town, Gatehouse if Fleet, is a delight, with some really excellent places to eat, very friendly locals and many points of interest.
Our greeting at reception was less than welcoming, as if we were doing them a favour by booking in. In fairness the chap was friendlier as we were checking out, so perhaps it was me 🤔 The bed was an instrument of torture, I would have asked to move, but I refer you to the previous comment.
The hotel is set in lovely grounds and had a very calm and peaceful ambience Most staff on reception were super friendly, chatty and very accommodating The evening meal we had was wonderful, quality food and well presented Staff in the restaurant and the bar area were attentive and friendly The rooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable Parking was plentiful and the availability of reliable EV chargers was invaluable Great to have the pool and gym facility
There was one gentleman on reception who was polite and efficient but not as friendly or sincere in his welcome. When I made a request one evening for milk, he gave me a handful of sachets which was fine. The second time I asked, he did attend to it, but his body language suggested he was a bit put out that he had to move from his position behind the front desk - he appeared to almost 'huff' as he went to the restaurant and brought back a jug of milk rather than sachets. This was fine for the evening, but as there was nowhere to keep anything chilled, it didn't keep well overnight for our morning cup of tea! The hotel has a lot of charm and character, but the rooms are a little tired. There are no usb sockets for charging electronic devices The gym facility and pool were a bonus, but the air conditioning hadn't been on and it wasn't obvious where to switch it on. Would suggest that it is left on during opening hours! Also, the water available wasn't chilled which isn't great after a workout!
Excellent nights stay on the way through and made great use of the pool.
All good.
The building, location and staff
‘Artisan bread’ at dinner
Traditional, spacious, genuine, grand. Leisure facilities were great.
Another beautiful stay, this place never disappoints us,food lovely and the staff are excellent can't wait to go back in October
Great location, huge place , big room
Nothing
Country Location, comfortable spacious room, good food.
No signs off the Main road directing to hotel / golf course.
Un paradiso per i golfisti! Bella struttura anche se datata ma con buona colazione. Possibilità di piscina jacuzzi. Ping pong, snooker e biliardo. Bellissimo campo da golf a prezzi buonissimi. Bella stanza grande e letto molto comodo
Direi niente
Good location, friendly staff,l good food.
need a handrail on the stairs going from reception into the hotel. Not good for less able.
loved to location and immaculately kept golf corse and parkland. The hotel is very spacious and well maintained with wonderful ceiling decor.
Didn’t like the self closing bedroom doors that really banged shut.. very disturbing at night when other guests go to their rooms.
Lovely Georgian hotel set in beautiful grounds

An excellent choice of breakfast food. No one could have been disappointed.
Nothing. I was very pleased and happy with every aspect of our stay.
Locatie is uitstekend
Ontbijt was karig. Er was niet eens een plakje kaas of ham.
The staff were awesome... Helpful, friendly and kind
Nothing
The swimming pool & spa
There was no air con in the room, and the window only opened a tiny bit. We asked for a fan and was told there only were 10 and they were all out.. It was during a hot spell.. Not ideal, for a 4⭐ so it was uncomfortably hot within the room. We booked a table for the first night for dinner but obviously this info wasn't relayed to the restaurant. So the waitress appeared really annoyed abt this and just left us standing, until one of the waiters came & showed us to the table. Felt a bit uncomfortable.
Breakfast was great, a good variety of items on offer and hot food refreshed regularly. Room was very comfortable and quiet.
Difficult to suggest anything needing improvement.
Great firm mattress on bed. Lovely food both breakfast and evening meal. Great staff.
excellent stay
The setting and the breakfast
Nothing I liked it all
The outside of the hotel was beautiful . Very majestic as expected . The foyer was lovely. Staff were very pleasant and helpful
The inside of the hotel is tired and badly requires maintenance . The leisure facilities were poor hygiene wise and the swimming pool was not being taken care of properly with worms in the bottom of the pool .
Everything ! A beautiful location and a lovely old fashioned hotel. The staff were exceptional and could not do enough for us . The food was excellent too. Lovely pool area and stunning grounds for wonderful walks . Will be back!
Nothing.
Breakfast very good, friendly staff, amazing location

Location
Lovely setting, staff friendly and attentive.
Property requires an element of renovation.
Lovely setting nice to sit out on balcony in the evening. Large indoor pool.
Bit dated in areas
The location was spectacular and because we were lucky with the weather it was brilliant waking up to green grass and blue skies. The hotel is on the edge of Gatehouse of Fleet and perfect access to main roads etc. Enjoyed the pool facilities and common seating areas but outside could do with some cushions and parasols. The shower pressure was also spectacular. A comfy and clean bed with good pillows. They also have some good recommendations for things to do in the booklet.
There is definitely a value for money element here but if I’m being picky, it Feels very dated now and as much as I can appreciate keeping the historical elements of the place alive, our bedroom window didn’t close and the TV was minute. The staff were pleasant enough but seemed mostly fed up. And to be honest I think if I’d been blown away by them I might not have noticed the other bits. The buffet breakfast was varied enough but the cooked section was very oily and tasteless. It was all just okay.
Food was good.
Meet and greet needs attention. The reception staff need to be greeting the guests with a little more regard not seem like they are doing you a favour a little help with luggage would have been nice
It’s location, the room’s lay out, the staff, the swimming pool and golf course, the bar and restaurant
Nothing to dislike. Small thing: the breakfast could have catered for non-dairy eaters (alternative milk e.g.)
Aanvankelijk hadden ze ons in een muffe familiekamer geplaatst. Na klacht verbleven we in een ‘deftige’ kamer.
excellent breakfast

Location
Needs serious maintenance throughout, but still a great hotel, would definitely recommend
Gorgeous location, clean, efficient, big rooms, comfy beds, enjoyed snooker and pitch and putt.
The grounds were beautiful. Room large, lovely views, very clean.
Hotel generally very dated & run down looking. Poor menu choice & staff were maybe under pressure. We were given menu to choose a dessert but after 20-25 mins no body came back so left & went to bar for coffee. Leisure centre facilities run down. Poor changing facilities.
The location, staff and history
Nothing
Plenty of options available, including Gluten free. All presented well and staff were attentive
The breakfast really was about only the one positive thing I could say about the hotel and location also.
On arrival and after checking into room 73 , on opening the first door to get in I proceeded to open the second door and was greeted with large cob webs falling down from the top right corner of the room. The beige carpet urgently needs replacing or deep cleaning as it was unacceptable for a four star hotel. Stains on walking in , stains outside the bathroom and spilled liquid stains all at the end of the bed . The furniture was very dated and the two armchairs as well urgently needed deep cleaning. The bed was comfortable certainly but the old tartan cushions to match the throw on the bed and curtains needed replacing as unfortunately were well worn. The toilet seat was faulty and not sitting correctly on the ceramic toilet and the bathroom in general needed a proper ventilation system as what was in the ceiling was either clogged with dust or ceiling insulation lining. Corners of bathroom had cobwebs also especially where the toilet brush was. On taking a shower the next morning of arrival I was greeted by spiders when I went to move the rack at end of bath to place my towel . That rack in fact also needs replacing as extremely stained .No air conditioning facilities which should be standard in a four star hotel, I appreciate it’s a “Old Style “ hotel but on speaking to some locals in the nearby village while dining out and they asked where my wife and myself were from and staying and we told them , the all agreed the same that the hotel is dated .
The atmosphere is lovely. The staff are all excellent. Just a lovely place to be.
Our 3rd visit. Lovely staff. Big room, we had a one with balcony because of the dog. Great food , nice menu. Excellent location
Pleasant and helpful staff. Breakfast was good offering a variety of food (but no decaff coffee easily available). Evening meal menu was varied and food of a high standard. Spacious, comfortable rooms but needing a bit of tlc - eg curtains needing major repairs in our bedroom. Lovely location and surrounding views.
Our room was very hot with three floor to ceiling windows but only one small opening window. Fans were not available for all rooms. No air conditioning. In spite of ringing to confirm a time for dinner well in time for our visit we were only able to confirm our dinner slot on the day. On neither day of our stay could our 7pm request be accommodated which was disappointing as priority seemed to be given to larger groups.
Beautiful setting stunning old house good food and nice bar
Our room was in the new extension. We could hear the guests next door to us talking etc plus their tv. The banging noise the doors make is just beyond belief plus we had guests with a dog that never stopped barking.
Lovely grounds very picturesque
Very tired rooms for de luxe. Huge but old fashioned, couldn’t open the windows and very hot in the room. Basic breakfast but tasty enough. I feel they need more staff to help guests. Guests had to go to the bar for drinks and food orders. In the restaurant a max of 3 staff to take orders, clear away tables etc for a large restaurant.
Alles
Breakfast was excellent, staff excellent, dinner gave us variety. Beautifully presented and delicious.
Provided all our needs. The room did smell as if a dog had been in at some time. Could have the lounges used perhaps for coffee so giving an opportunity to meet for a chat. I understand people like to go to there room to watch TV
Beautiful building and grounds with redecorated bedrooms and spacious lounges, restaurant and bar. Excellent food and good service.
No problems other than minor issue of leak from shower screen when using over bath shower (reported for maintenance)
Liked the history and tradition of the building.

Surprising, comfortable, spacious, good facilities, the swimming pool, the breakfast, location
Nothing
Pool and golf facilities Size and style of room Friendly staff
Beer and lager selection limited
Will definitely stay again exceptionally beautiful setting
The horse flys got plenty of bits next time I'll take sprays to stop it happening
Fantastic location, fantastic grounds, very friendly staff, excellent food, grand building
The building obviously needs investment, but appreciate will cost a fortune, but surely impossible not to have a good time here!
Warm friendly welcome and fabulous lication
Only thing was there wasn’t a lift to our floor and section if hotel to deluxe double room. Lift in different part of hotel. My husband limited mobility.
The situation, location and staff. We ate dinner twice and breakfast every morning. Excellent!
Nothing!
Hotel was excellent and the grounds were beautiful. The pool was very good.
Carrying the luggage up the stairs at reception. Being in our 70s we could have done with a bit of help.
Fab location.. Beautiful hotel with lots if character inside & out ..Beautiful walks & surrounding grounds.. Easy access short walk to town from golf course.. Hotel facilities excellent.. Pool leisure area fab.. Rooms we had were big and well equipped.. Food in hotel was luvely.. Prices ok.. Staff were very helpful and cheery.. Big shout out for Annie on reception who was excellent..very helpfull and cheery.. Thanks for all your help😁.. Will definitely be back for another stay 👏👏👏👏
All good
Great room and bathroom suite
The gym, is very poor and very hot 🔥 the jacuzzi was also very hot and long delays between usage times
Unfortunately my mattress had a huge dip in it so was very uncomfortable. The staff and the food excellent. Needs a lot of money spent on it which is a shame as it’s a fantastic hotel.
Needs updating. Very hot in the dining room due to being next to the pool.
very nice setting and relaxing
room was due to have an upgrade
