Beautiful
A little lacking in basics like cutlery glasses etc. Also no pressure on hot water in the bathroom
Unfortunately, our stay was a great disappointment. The accommodation was poorly maintained, had a musty smell, and felt very worn and in need of renovation. The cottage has a lot of potential and could be truly charming and cosy, which makes its current condition all the more disappointing. A real shame.
Great location
Beautiful, rustic, country cottage, we had a brilliant stay excatly what the doctor ordered, peace and quiet, the little cottage is great, if your looking to get back to basics this is the place for you, we will be back!! Thank you tom 😊
Having to leave
The location
The smell in the house was awful. Mould on daughters bedsheeet. Half a toilet roll for 3 people for 3 nights. We were to stay 3 nights but had to find alternative accommodation after first night.
It's location and its very homely
It's a cosy place
Great location
Location was good for the event we were participating in. Cottage and surrounding outbuildings have great potential
Mould and damp smell as soon as we opened the door. Downstairs bedroom was very cold and smelt mouldly and felt damp. There were faded marks at the bottom of the walls when you could see the mould had been washed away at some stage. Cobwebs in the main living a looked liked they have been there for some time.
The Cottage is beautiful from the outside.
The smell of dampness in the cottage is overwhelming. The cottage is absolutely filthy inside and over run with insects. The electrical work in this cottage is not safe. We arrived on Friday afternoon.. our initial thoughts were it wasn't good but we said we'd try make the most of it and pretend we were camping. The house smelled terrible, but we understood it's an old cottage so we lit the fire and tried to air out the house a bit. We bought some candles to light in the living room and hoped they might work. One look in the bathroom made us realise that the smell was actually mould and that the problem was the house is just filthy. The main bedroom is actually disgusting, the ceiling is filthy and covered in years old cobwebs. The are extension leads everywhere with heaters and dehumidifiers plugged in. The bed and bed linen were filthy so we actually just lay on the bed Friday night. We had an early start to do the Carrick Camino Saturday morning so this wasn't ideal. I tried to brush my teeth Saturday morning but the water from the tap was the same colour as milk. We left the cottage Saturday morning at 6am and walked the 35km of the camino. We then decided to do the 3 hrs drive home instead of staying the 2nd night which speaks volumes. I can only attach 4 pics with this review and im not sure this shows how dirty this house is. It is so bad with mould and insect infestation that I honestly believe this house should not be allowed to be rented out. This is a shame as the cottage looks nice from the outside. To be clear we picked this property as we wanted to stay in an old rustic cottage as we have done numerous times before all over Ireland and the UK. We do not have unreasonable expectations and we would have been happy if at least a minimum standard had been met. Sweet Meadow falls very very short of the minimum standard and is the worst property i have ever stayed in. I texted the owner through booking.
It's a great place to get away from city life love the fire 🔥 it's not to far from the town very good place for for a group to stay
No freezer
Everything
Prachtig leuk vrijstaand huisje.
Spacious house. Clean and well kept. Easy to find and obtain key.
Couldn't find the iron but was probably hidden away somewhere. Otherwise fine
A Perfect Rural Retreat – With EV Charging! We had a truly wonderful stay at Sweet Meadow cottage. From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the peaceful, rustic charm of the thatched roof, the cozy interiors, and the beautiful surroundings along the River Shannon. The cottage was spotless, well-equipped, and full of character exactly what we were hoping for in a countryside escape. One of the unexpected highlights was the kind permission from the owner to charge our electric vehicle using a granny charger. This made our stay so much more convenient and stress free, and we are genuinely grateful for their generosity and hospitality. The owner was incredibly welcoming and thoughtful throughout, ensuring we had everything we needed to feel at home. Their warmth really added to the whole experience. We would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat with a touch of old world charm and modern day convenience. Thank you again for a memorable stay!
A delightful cottage, well hidden from road, nice spacious kitchen and front room, plenty of bedrooms to choose from we liked the upper mezzanine, lots of garden space and it will be even nicer when all the sheds at rear are converted, really peaceful place, about 2km from the town, shower and bathroom were great, enjoyed our stay!!
Kitchen light too low as I kept banging my head off it!!
Very Authentic, clean and cosy. Plenty of room when 6 of us stayed. We would love to come back again. Close enough to visit all surrounding towns. Thanks for an awesome place
Location. Cosyness. Beds . Fire . Back in time
Could do with a freezer . Water pressure was a bit of a pain but manageable
Absolutely nothing. There is nothing to like about this place. We were booked in for 3 nights and left on the first morning it was that bad. We would have left without staying at all, only it was late when we arrived the previous evening.
Where do I start? The house was absolutely filthy, there was months old cobwebs everywhere, dead maggot shells on the furniture, it was damp, black mould all over the place, and it was overridden by rodents. It was so bad that the noise they created kept us awake most of the night. Some of the party didn't sleep at all because of it. I reported all this the next morning and that we were leaving. The host was very difficult to deal with, more or less saying we were lying and that maybe we had too high expectations...I don't think expecting a clean rodent free house is too much of an expectation. Anyway, he offered a refund which was expected, then offered a refund minus the fees, we accepted to just put it behind us, then they dragged out the process by repeatedly telling me I had to leave a good review. It felt a bit like blackmail to be honest, and I'm not comfortable lying and feel terrible recommending this house to others. The house is nothing like it's described. It's not cosy, it's not romantic, and it's not clean. It's advertised as being on 4 acres as if it's beautiful gardens and walk areas, but in reality, most of the 4 acres is just a massively overgrown, unkept field. The house is also electrically unsafe. We arrived to not only find mouse traps in the kitchen, but every socket had an extension lead plugged into an extension lead. The majority of the sockets have the electronic pest control things. We counted 17 in total, and obviously, none of them work at all. My advice is to look elsewhere, Rooskey is a nice quiet location, but please find alternative accommodation.
The host made every effort to ensure my stay was comfortable & enjoyable. Sweet Meadow is very peaceful and has lots of rustic charm. All the facilities were in good order & the woodburner completes the package. A circular staircase was a nice surprise. The bathroom is modern & spacious. There is a nice orchard to the garden, which also has some furniture should the sun be out.
The portable heaters I believe would be challenged in autumn & winter to provide enough warmth in the cottage. Some people may find the activity in the thatch roof of concern, I expected it so no problem for me.
Nice central location, easy access to various attractions.
Beautiful house in a great location, could do with some central heating as it's quite cold, but having said that there's a little stove that heats the bottom end of house, there was a few electric heaters around the house that kept us warm.
The beds: We arrived late on Friday and headed out earlier yesterday for the Carrick Camino. The main thing for us is the beds were very comfortable so we got a good nights sleep.
I wasn’t there enough to criticise any part of it.
We liked the quiet rural area and the quirky thatch cottage vibe
Happy. It was good value for money and different as never stayed in a thatch cottage before, outside areas need some tlc but cottage is nice
Everything!!
Ideal location, quiet and comfortable
Some minor issues that were resolved
An experience in a very old thatched cottage
Cottage held a lot of internally moisture which smelt very musty in main bedroom. Outside yards need a lot of work and TLC.
Quiet, peaceful and beautiful location. It reminded me of my childhood in Ireland.
Going back to the past. The log and peat buying fire.
Plenty of room inside and out. Everything is there that you need
Could do with a freezer.
Lovely cottage in a quiet environment. Very well equipped and clean.
Relaxing and peaceful
Nothing
Such a quant different break away.
I can see the potential in the property and what the owner will do.
beautiful cottage and beautiful setting
all was great
Lovely quaint old fashioned cottage. Everything needed (and more) for self-catering accommodation provided. Spacious and comfortable. Instruction file for house very useful. Good location for us as we were visiting houses in a few places
Didn't manage to access the WiFi.
