World's End Base Eco-Village

I must preface all my reviews of Sri Lankan hotels with this: most smaller hotels are family businesses whose ambition is not to be a mogul, but to make enough to get by. Hence, all the owners and workers are extremely polite and helpful. Their attitude is universally friendly and accommodating. Nice large room. Quiet with the pleasant sound of a creek in the background. Water pressure OK. Comfortable bed. Good food available. Wifi surprisingly good for the location.

The road to get there is shocking, so once there, you're there for the night. Fortunately the restaurant is good. Isolated hotel, lovely environs but not walkable in any way.

Prachtige locatie, mooie kamer, heerlijk zwembad.

The location is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by nature and with a lot of potential. I also appreciated that the staff did not charge me for the second night and offered breakfast after I decided to leave early.

Unfortunately, the overall experience was very disappointing. I had booked two nights but left after one. The welcome felt cold, with very little explanation, and I had the impression of being more of a bother than a guest. The room was not properly prepared (towels left crumpled in the cupboard), which reflects a lack of attention to detail. The main issue was the noise: very loud music in the evening made it impossible to relax or sleep. When I raised this calmly at reception, no real effort to resolve the situation or offer a room change. This is not what you expect from a place presented as a peaceful eco lodge.

The hotel is in a beautiful location, great place to relax and unwind. The views are incredible! The food was also amazing, especially the kotthu and the chicken curry. Nice to relax by the pool or do a 30 minute walk to the waterfall.

We had a tuk tuk and the road to access the property was quite difficult to drive on but it was doable, may be even more difficult in other vehicles. It is worth noting that they do not sell alcohol outside of high season and there are no shops nearby.

The location was incredible. The views were absolutely beautiful, with vibrant colours, waterfalls, rice paddies, mountains and jungle. We saw many amazing birds and a few animals as well. The food was surprisingly good for such a remote location.

The road in gave us a bit of a shock. We were in a large van and the last few hundred metres were very narrow and rough and our driver was nervous. We were glad it wasn’t raining or getting dark.

This wonderful hotel is immaculately clean with high quality facilities including a natural freshwater pool and a swimming pool. The staff truly can’t do enough to help. Service is excellent, and the team are always on hand to organise excursions such as walks in nature, and taxis, making it easy to get to and from this idilic rural location. The food was outstanding. The rice and curry came with a tasty selection of accompaniments including potatoes, green beans, poppadums, dhal, and banana flower. Simply wow. Wildlife is abundant. We spotted a white-throated kingfisher, a mongoose, and of course World’s End’s most prized resident, a proud peacock strutting around the grounds.

Niks

We had absolutely an amazing experience at World’s End Base Eco-Village. This place is located in the middle of the mountains, totally in the middle of nature. You can truly disconnect there, it felt almost like a retreat! On top of this, we got the best room we ever stayed in Sri Lanka. Very good conditions, very clean and an amazing view from the balcony. Lastly, the staff were absolutely 5 stars! The most welcoming and sweet staff. We will miss them ❤️

Need the villas located outside the pool area. Noisy all the time

Friendly staff, good food, quiet relaxing location, great scenery

Road getting there is a bit tricky but quite doable

The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the food, especially, breakfast was excellent and the property and amenities are exactly as seen in the photos. Since I went during the non-tourist season and found myself to be the only guest, I was bracing myself for musty or stale smelling room but the rooms smelled fresh, Even though I, a woman, was staying all alone in the property in what would seem like in the middle of nowhere, I felt safe and comfortable for the entire duration of my stay.

There is very little to dislike about this place. The approach road isn't the best but then it's a small price to pay for the location of the resort itself. I would, however, recommend the staff to use a kettle cover since the place has many bugs (not in the room per se, and inevitable a couple of bugs will find themselves inside the kettle...not something you want to encounter during your morning tea/coffee.

Prachtig gelegen, heel goed personeel, heerlijk gegeten

Niets

Bon petit dej. Bref, nous recommandons. Possibilité de rando dans le coin.

Rien

Surrounded by beautiful nature, amidst rice fields. In the middle of nowhere, very secluded and cared for accommodation. Ideal to relax.

Don’t be mistaken by the name though: it’s far away from the Horton Plains entrance

We had a wonderful time, all rooms seem to have impressive views. Staff were super friendly and helpful:) We had a great time, walked to the waterfall, swam in the swimming pool and did nature spotting from our front porch:) thank you:)

one thing to keep in mind is that in rainy season you are not allowed to walk/hike to Horton Planes directly from the hotel. However, the hotel staff offer to drive you around to the entrance, but it takes about 2,5 hours.

This hotel is simply amazing. It's surrounded by rice fields, mountains, and even has a small waterfall flowing right through the resort – the whole place is stunning and full of peaceful energy. We had a room right by the pool and the mini waterfall. Normally, my husband and I find it hard to really relax, but here we could truly unwind – lying in the hammock, floating in the pool, or just enjoying the view from the lounge. The hotel team was incredibly friendly, helpful, and went above and beyond. They took us on a Jeep tour to explore the area and even arranged a private car with a driver for our onward journey. The food was absolutely delicious – we especially recommend the Sri Lankan breakfast! A place to relax, recharge, and enjoy nature. Highly recommended!

Superb location

Chef - we ate all our meals there and all of it was incredible. There were 8 of us and we LOVED every meal . Such care was taken with it all .so fresh .

We thought we could get to Horton Plains from there but it was over a 2 hour drive so we were disappointed.

To be honest ..there wasn't anything not to like ..the Staff were very welcoming and helpful and always available. Beautiful Peacefull surroundings in a very well maintained setting, the hotel offers plenty of facilities with pool and badminton area ....will definitely be coming again ...thank you so much

Amazing location, great garden and swimming pool.

Great place and environment. Super clean and great food and not that many tourists in that area.

We loved our night in this hotel. The room was very luxurious! We had a beautiful view over the pool and mountains and a huge bed!! Plus a sofa, a space for a small kitchen area / space to hang your clothes, and bathroom. All of this space made it very comfortable. We felt like a king and queen in this room, looking out over our kingdom!

Breakfast was not included in the room price, and since we paid extra for the breakfast we expected something a bit better. It was fine, but it was simply a basic continental breakfast which was a bit boring. The dinner menu offered so many options which we thought was great but the quality of the food was not so great and the portions were not very big, so we ordered more than we thought we had to and therefore paid more than we normally would for dinner in Sri Lanka.

The best hotel in Sri Lanka. Kind and nice staff Very high-level chef Amazing food. Excellent pool. Great rooms. Wonderful nature Including a stream flowing inside the hotel Natural pools Perfectly engineered seating areas. Peacocks flying above you. In short, highly recommended for anyone who wants a special experience of nature and wonderful food.

Fab location Tremendous staff Great rooms

It's a good place for relaxation.

Stunning scenery everywhere around the location, facilities and service was impeccable.

a little difficult to get to the location

Beautiful place and welcoming staff. Very friendly and accomodating. Food was great. Breathtaking views. We would love to visit again

Nothing

It really feels like the end of the world! Extremely nice resort with a natural river flowing through. GreaT pool, huge rooms and huge bed. Lovely view of rice fields, peacocks and mountains. The breakfast was very big. As we were at the end of the world we also had dinner there. Fortunately not too spice, quite European kitchen. There was plenty of hot and the shower worked well. Thexroom has AC and various TV channels.

We were the only guests there. There were more members of staff (all male!) than guests, which felt a bit uncomfortable. Furthermore despite this big number of staff noone had actually checked our room before we arrived. It had not been cleaned for a while and the bed linnen was not fresh. There was a dead spider and various other insects in the bed. I guess the bed linnen was unused but had been sitting there for several days or weeks. The room smelt damp and there was no mosquito net. We opened the windows and the smell disappeared. The next day it rained and several damp patches and actual water leakage appeared. The resort has lots of potential but lacks attention to detail and feels neglected.

In the middle of mountains and rice paddies. Amazing 360 degrees views. Beautifuly maintained grounds with little string, our kids loved to explore every corner of the place. Nice refreshing pool, badminton playground. Personnel realy goes the extra mile and the service during mealtime was top notch. Room was large, comfy, nicely furnished with beautiful views. We realy loved just to chill out there. There is a waterfall 20min walk from there.

Everything was perfect. Only some of the local guests should be more considered to other guests (loud music, swimming in the pool fully dressed) but not hotel's fault.

Staff really friendly

It is very far from World’s end, so the name of the hotel is misleading. We booked a room for 4 and we had a big bed for 3 and a small one for 1. It was ok because we are family, it was surprising though

This is a beautiful place to stay, very peaceful in wonderful surroundings. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Supun the chef, produced beautiful food, with wonderful flavours and took pride in what he made for us. Prasanth's hosting and attention to us as guests was excellent. We look forward to coming again.

Location staff all facilities

Nothing

MEALS ARE GOOD. LITTLE TOO COSTLY. LOCATION IS VERY GOOD. BUT EACHING THE LOCATION IS REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE.

STAFF ASSISTANCE NOT GOOD

Jeffrey was excellent and welcoming and the chef was helpful too. The setting once we got there was lovely.

The road/ track to get there was narrow and difficult to navigate so don’t attempt to come here unless you have an off-road vehicle. Our room had exposed electrical wiring and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The food was very average and expensive for what they provided. The Wi-Fi was also very poor.
