Reviewed Sep 12, 2026I really loved my stay at Bukit Samudra! The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable, and the view was absolutely gorgeous. The facilities are lovely and everything was very well cared for. But what I appreciated the most was how incredibly kind and welcoming all the staff were. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and they really made me feel at home. I had such a lovely stay and would definitely come back! ❤️

La stanza familiare è enorme con due camere matrimoniali e due bagni bellissimi è tutto pulitissimo le lenzuola profumano.. ti senti veramente in paradiso. Il personale molto gentile e disponibile, anche se parla pochissimo inglese quasi nulla.
La struttura con feritoie di legno, pur essendo bellissima non dà nessun tipo di protezione da insetti e animali nonché rumori al mattino vieni svegliato ovviamente da rumori degli animali e dalla luce. In più, se devo trovare un difetto, non avendo privacy delle finestre, senti tutti i rumori della stanza vicina.

O restaurante é bastante frequentado e pode tornar-se um pouco barulhento às vezes. As casas não são totalmente fechadas o que faz com que se oiça algum ruído dos hóspedes ao lado.

Reviewed Jun 23, 2026What a unit place! We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay! The food was always amazing and fresh, sometimes they didn’t have everything on the menu but they always replaced it with something else. The no air con was not an issue as the airflow is sufficient with the way the building has been made. Massive big beautiful bathrooms and super comfy beds! The view from the restaurant is really pretty and they had games and colouring in for the kids which was such a nice touch! They helped us organise transport, laundry and scooters. Staff were all really friendly and it was in a good central location. Lovely seating area on the verandah with a water cooler with chilled and hot water! We stayed in the 2bedroom units which were great for our family

Reviewed Dec 15, 2025Das war die schönste Unterkunft unserer Indonesien-Reise. Die Holz-Bungalows sind völlig durchdacht. Es ist alles offen. Deswegen kann bei Regenzeit alles gut trocknen. Man kann die Fenster auf einer Seite öffnen, somit fühlt man sich auch nicht vom Bungalow nebenan gestört. Das Bad ist wunderschön und gepflegt. Das Bungalow hat aussen Aussendusche mit viel Platz, z.B. für Surfboards, sowie eine Terasse, wo man eine sehr schöne Aussicht hat. Wir haben uns im Bungalow sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Restaurant ist auch sehr empfehlenswert. Wir waren extrem happy, dass es in der Unterkunft auch Essen gab. Das Essen ist sehr sehr fein und die Mitarbeiter*innen geben sich sehr Mühe.
Die Küche war abends leider zwei Mal geschlossen. Dies hatten wir erst erfahren, als wir Abendessen wollten. Wir hatten Glück, dass noch etwas in der Nähe offen war, hatten uns aber sehr auf das Essen in der Unterkunft gefreut, und waren daher etwas enttäuscht.

The restaurants is pricy and there is nog that much to choose from. You have to pay extra for rice (should be included in the meal price) and the portions are sometimes very small. We would loved to extend our stay but due to the restaurant we didn’t. We were there for surfing and might not be the right target group for the restaurant. But the place itself is amazing!

The room doesn't actually have walls - only like a wooden trellis - so you can't cool it down. The fan doesn't really work as it's too high and behind the netting above the bed. Also we were there with our kid and people were angry with her laughing while she was playing quietly in the room in the evening. We left after one night.

The only downside is that because of this design, you can hear everything from the neighboring bungalows, not ideal if you’re a light sleeper

Food and protein shakes were delicious, we ate there at least once a day. Live music on Fridays was an amazing bonus as well. Rooms and bathrooms are open air, the fan helps keep air circulating more. No need for A/C!

Il fatto che le camere siano dei bungalow semi aperti ti espone al clima, se fa caldo non c'è l'aria condizionata ma solo una ventola a soffitto, se piove molto forte c'è il rischio che entri dell'acqua nella stanza.

Julien est très accueillant et son équipe est aux petits soins avec un grand sourire. Le logement est très confortable et parfaitement équipé, beaucoup de détails qui font la différence : eau buvable mise à disposition, restaurant de grand qualité avec un large choix (les burgers sont incroyables !), serviettes de table en tissu ! Whaou on a adoré notre séjour de 5 nuits en famille. On se sent à la maison, merci ☺️
On a tout aimé ici, quelques difficultés pour trouver des scooters (encore peu touristique en comparaison à Bali ou Lombok) mais Julien a tout mis en œuvre pour répondre à nos attentes.

Reviewed Aug 7, 2025Die Häuser sind echt schön und der Ausblick ist ein Traum! Toll war dass es 5 min vom Strand war und dort ein anderes Resort mit Pool war. Da die Wellen oft zu stark zum schwimmen waren. Für einen erholsamen Entspannungsurlaub ohne etwas zu sehen sicher ideal. Man kann auch Motos ausleihen und das Essen war gut. Aber etwas teuer.
Es ist sehr hellhörig und man sieht am Abend von draußen hinein. Das Frühstück war etwas teuer voralm, das man gleich viel zahlte auch wenn man mehreres nicht nahm. Die Hunde sind für manche etwas einschüchternd. Fein wäre gewesen wenn gerade, wenn man länger bleibt 2-3 Klopapierrollen direkt im Zimmer war, sondern man fragen musste. Bei einem Bett gab es auch kein Mückennetz was etwas störend war. Gerade weil es viele Mücken gibt.

Reviewed Jul 17, 2025A really special place. Aesthetically stunning with natural building materials and beautiful planting in the most exceptional setting. We felt so relaxed here. The music was consistently good, the food was lovely, and there’s a strong sustainable ethos (zero plastic, water refills as standard). The staff are caring and thorough, and the place is faultlessly clean. It’s a short walk to a spectacular bay for surfing, wave jumping with kids, strolling and swimming. Highly recommend this wonderful place.

Reviewed Jun 16, 2025We absolutely loved our 2 weeks stay at Bukit Samudra, the rooms are beautiful and comfortable with views over the ocean and mountains. Julien the owner and all of the staff were super helpful during our stay, they arranged a scooter for us and made sure we had everything we needed! The hotel is located 2 minutes from the beach and there are many fun waves to surf nearby. There is also a great restaurant with vegetarian options, and the dishes are delicious, highly recommend the chocolate fondant and the creamy lemon Mahi. Highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Kertasari!

Reviewed May 20, 2025The buildings are new and look great, are very spacious and comfortable. There's great views from the balconies, especially in the mornings. Highly recommend getting up for sunrise
The bathroom needed a good clean as there was shaving hairs in one of the sinks. Our room didn't come with a water fountain, whereas the others all had their own. Our other room's water fountain had no water in it. All the bedroom walls are slatted screens that are angled downwards, meaning anyone walking by can see into your room. Whilst the slats keep the room cool at night by allowing a draught, the slats should've been orientated upwards. There's no privacy in the room because of this. We could also hear the next rooms video streaming easily. We felt the restaurant food was very overpriced for the area and the portions were small. I ordered an expensive main meal of sweet and sour chicken, only to realise it didn't include any rice, so had to order that separately. My son ordered an expensive burger and was told it was very large, it wasn't, so had to order more food for him after that. The pricey quesadillas were very small too and the Pandan pudding didn't have any pandan in it. I took it back and they still put it on the bill. The restaurant experience really let the place down. Needs decent portions and for goodness sakes add rice with the curry dishes and fries with the burger.

Reviewed Apr 27, 2025We absolutely loved our stay at Bukit Samudra. We decided last minute to stay two nights in West Sumbawa, just to see a bit more. When we arrived here, we were so impressed and ended up extending our stay 2 times, cause we felt so at home and the staff was so kind and helpful. The room was beautiful and clean. We loved the breakfast and overall food, there was many vegan options which i loved! They rented us a scooter and we went to a few nice beaches and a waterfall nearby. There is a beach about 8 min walk. You can always ask for advice what to see and do there, to which places to go to. They even arranged us a taxi very quickly on our way to the accomandation, because our other taxi had a flat tire and we were stranded. They also have two very cute dogs, fiona and shrek!! If I could, I would’ve stayed longer. So all in all: If u visit Sumbawa, a stay at bukit samudra is a must. Great place and wonderful People. You will feel at home.

Reviewed Mar 14, 2025We have had the most wonderful time in Sumbawa at Juliens place. Swell check from the balcony and great food from the restaurant. The rooms are big and cool even though they dont have AC. The big windows make it very bright. Cleaned every day and very nice staff. We ended up staying three weeks, surfing every day at Dirty Hippies and Northern Right.
The bungalows have (as seen you can see on the photos) no proper walls. If you are a light sleeper, take earplugs with you.

Reviewed Feb 22, 2025Truly exceptional. Beautiful views. The concept of "open" rooms where you can hear the sound of the ocean and the nature is so unique. It might not be for everyone, but for us it was really amazing, we planned to stay just 1 night but had to extend it to 2 nights. The restaurant is phenomenal. Thank you so much and we will be back when we come to western Sumbawa again. Just wow!

Reviewed Feb 3, 2025We feel incredibly fortunate to have discovered this gem! Julien and his team have truly set a new standard for hospitality, quality, and culinary excellence in western Sumbawa. While we're not surfers and didn't come for the nearby breaks, we were eager to explore the region and its people. Julien's insightful recommendations were invaluable in planning our three-day stay at Bukit Samudra. Initially, we considered trying local warungs, but our first dinner at the resort's restaurant quickly changed our minds. The delicious food, reasonable prices, and friendly service were exceptional. Our bungalow was absolutely perfect – beautifully designed with everything we needed. It was impeccably clean, with a comfortable mattress, a great shower, and a relaxing lounge area. Honestly, it's one of the best bungalows I've ever stayed in. The outdoor shower was so refreshing that we didn't even miss having a pool. Plus, the beach is just a short five-minute walk away. Overall, it's a perfect 10/10. Thank you!

Reviewed Jan 22, 2025Perfect location near all the surf spots & beautiful views throughout the property. The actual rooms are nice and clean, great shower too! No AC, but ceiling fan helped with keeping us cool. The rooms are more of an "open air" type style. Definitely suggest wearing bug spray even with the bug nets. There is a nice outdoor shower as well to rinse sand off after surfing/the beach. The restaurant was great, staff was friendly, and the owner Julien was awesome! He was super helpful & present throughout our stay if we needed anything. He helped us arrange shuttles & had a motorbike waiting for us when we got there! Would definitely recommend this place, we did not want to leave!

Reviewed Jan 17, 2025The views are amazing. The people who work there are super kind, especially Risa,the housekeeping girl super chatty,polite, and lovely. The outside shower is great, and it is super handy to have your own water at the terrace. The dogs and the cat are the best from our stay.
When it rains, at least our room gets flooded, and you get wet while you are sleeping. The internet did not work the entire time we were there, so sadly, we left one day before.THankfully, they didn't hesitate, and they refunded the night.

Reviewed Dec 26, 2024The view on the property was amazing, overlooking the bay and the hills on the headland. The food was delicious and staff was super friendly. We enjoyed the vicinity, and it was easy to get to there by car. I loved the gardening, with the flower bushes and trees all around. The rooms were nicely designed with neat bathrooms and hot showers. We loved that each room has its own water machine with cold and hot water. A nice and tranquil atmosphere which made us feel comfortable.
We loved the open air style of the rooms - but It was near impossible to keep the quite aggressive mosquitoes out the bed area at night, despite there being a net. Perhaps this could get considered during rain season with a more enclosed net - and a stronger fan could be good for the heat. The noise from the cattle bells and some dog barks at night was also bit of a concern while trying to fight the mosquitoes. I’m sure these things are already something the property will improve on, as it’s quite new to the area.

Be aware that the rooms are open and you are only protected from mosquitos by a net. The room itself is unbearable hot during daytime and still around 30 degrees during nighttime. The architectural "breezy" concept with louvre style walls, but without AC doesn't work at all (at least not during wet season), but therefore, you feel like sharing the room with your neighbours. Also, the near passing road is very loud... Food in the restaurant was good, staff and management, therefore not attentive at all...The only place around with no pool, btw. I'm glad we only booked for one night.
