Randall was there to meet us when we arrived, he was excellent at showing us around and how everything worked.
When we booked we were not aware that the bathroom and toilet are away from the Yurt and going up and down the steep steps to get from the Yurt to the bathroom was not ideal. Going to the bathroom in the middle of the night was very tricky, We felt like we were camping. The photos on the website make it look like the bathroom is attached to the Yurt.
If you are in for an unique experience, go for it. But be aware that it is 22 minutes drive away from Wanaka.
The location. Quite far from Wanaka. 22 minutes drive by car.
Absolute aanrader!
Amazing!! It was such a cool experience to stay in a yurt and so cool to see how our hosts live off the grid and take care of such a beautiful property. Randall and Amanda were so welcoming and kind, even letting us to take some of the apricots off the tree to try. Amazing view from their property and so peaceful. Wish we could’ve stayed for longer and it wasn’t overcast because I would imagine the view of the stars would be incredible with the yurt skylight. Our stay was quite comfortable, bed was comfy and had all that we needed. They have a cute cat and chickens too. Be mindful driving up to the property as it’s mostly bumpy dirt roads.
Nothing! This isn’t a hotel room so don’t expect it to be a 5 star luxury getaway but rather a unique down to earth way to experience NZ
Die Lage perfekt, die Einweisung der Jurte durch Randal amüsant. Die Jurte ist ein Traum
This is a beautiful place. Well equiped and cosy! The breakfast is AMAZING. Fresh bread and eggs from the chickens in the garden. Lovely hosts and perfect for stargazing. It was a wonderfull break in a very busy schedule!
Staying here, you’re immersed in nature surrounded by stunning views, you’re off grid (with electricity and running water) but it’s exactly what is listed by the hosts. This family loves having guests and go above and beyond to make sure your stay is all that it can be, such kind and caring people! The yurt was huge, super comfortable, and had what we needed, the hosts going so far as to put a chilly bin in there for our cold goods (we are very grateful). The breakfast was superb, homemade fresh baked bread, homegrown eggs, homemade jam from their apricot trees, wow, yum, need I say more?!?
There was some difficulty reaching the yurt with our suitcases (the host was very gracious in helping carry them), and also getting to the bathroom in the night time (it’s disconnected to the yurt), as there are uneven steps to traverse so if you have any mobility concerns, this is not the place for you. The whole appeal was the yurt stay so we knew it would be somewhat rugged, we were totally impressed with how well everything was set up, & the level of comfort too!
this was a very cool stay. the yurt was well-furnished -- comfortable bed and sheets, warm at night, some kitchen equipment for heating up coffee and food. recommend getting to the yurt a little earlier in the evening if possible - we arrived after 9. the views from the property are stellar - we did a bit of evening stargazing when it got dark enough. there's a short walk to get from the parking location to the yurt, and yurt to bathroom/showers. just an fyi. we didnt have the breakfast but the hosts recommended a lovely spot nearby.
it was super windy that night and the window coverings on the yurt made a lot of noise when hit by wind so we unfortunately did not sleep super well. the hosts were apologetic about the situation
Excellent experience and really enjoyed our time meeting Randall and family.
Remote & cozy
Beautiful tipi yurt, which is spacious and comfortable. Tasty breakfast available.
Amanda is a super host and she will make you feel like home :)
Absolutely wonderful! We are so glad to have stumbled upon this. There was plenty of space inside the yurt and the hosts were nothing but welcoming. We really felt at home. We could have spent our entire day at the property exploring all that it had to offer, or simply enjoying nature.
Amazing experience! If you want fresh air, nature and a great host, then you are at the right place!
We loved our stay at Mountain Spirit! Randell, Amanda and their son were very welcoming, accommodating and kind. Would happily stay there again in the future. The location was very idyllic. Not far from Hawea but it felt lovely and remote. It’s a very peaceful place to stay. The views of the mountains and stars were incredible. The facilities were clean and easy to use. It had everything we needed for our stay, including a nice information booklet with information about the area and some interesting New Zealand facts, a very nice touch!
