The Bay Hotel

We had a fantastic long weekend at the Bay Hotel. The hotel is decorated in a calm, modern style, and although the pub downstairs is lively, out room was quiet and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were very good. The location is excellent for public transport links, with buses to Eastbourne, Hastings, and to Pevensey Castle and beyond. We enjoyed walking on the beautiful beach and the King Charles coastal path, and there are plenty of food options in the village

There were two things that let the hotel down. The windows in our room didnt open, which might have been a safety precaution. Its an old building with big sash windows and we were on the second floor. However, the fan in the bathroom didn't work and that is a serious lack of ventilation when you’re sharing a room. I also felt that the bathroom was due for a deep clean. There was nothing that made me uncomfortable, and my daughter was perfectly happy, I'd have just lijrd a bit more bleach on the grout. (Oh dear, I've become THAT reviewer.)

Shower. I was in room 18. Had to hold it in my hand and no water pressure . Could do with a few coat hangers in the room

This place is in the heart of Pevensey Bay, with other bars and eateries nearby, as well as the sea. Staff were friendly without any fuss. I was in room 17 in the roof. The bathroom facilities were new.

Being in the roof, it's tricky walking around due to sloping ceilings and low beams. It also made what was a double room quite small. You couldn't possibly stand up to take a shower.

I liked that the breakfast was done in the cafe next door and the young lady who worked there had amazing customer service and it was a very nice breakfast too. The bed was a bit hard in the room but it did the job to rest our head after a 5 hour journey and getting there at 2300 hrs.

Only the hard bed and thin pillows everything else met our needs.

Friendly staff, responsive when I had an issue late in the evening. No noise from other rooms. Clean and comfortable bed.

Room was on top floor, during a heat wave it was like a sauna. Portable air fan was not efficient enough to give relief and opening the window meant you could hear traffic on the main road. The room sits under a dove loft and these could be heard walking on the roof. The room was narrow and en suite a squeeze. Fine for 1 but tight for 2!

Located near busy and sometimes loud road crossing, breakfast in next door diner, warm in the room, uncomfortable bed, wobbly bathtub (although it looked great), no fridge in the room

Location was fine. Breakfast was a little strange in that you had to exit the hotel and go next door to eat. But everyone was very friendly & helpful. Only had a light breakfast.

The shower temperature was difficult to control - either cold or scalding hot. Gave up as was there just the one night.

El acceso a las habitaciones se hace a través de unas escaleras estrechas muy incómodas para subir el equipaje. No hay ascensor. No se limpió la habitación durante la estancia. La habitación era pequeña, sin sitio para dejar las cosas y el baño minúsculo. El desayuno se sirve en un local al lado y no ofrece más que el desayuno inglés y una bebida.

Excellent shower room; the furnishings were modern and functional, perfect for a one-night stay before catching a ferry, which we did with ease the next day. You could also enjoy a longer stay. The staff are courteous and considerate. I liked the informality: no fussy rules, nothing intimidating. It's just right. The free parking at the back was much appreciated. We will come again. I loved Pevensey Bay as a child. My grandparents lived there so we holidayed there from the 1960s- 1980s. It was lovely to see how it has changed and become a good base for a day at the beach, offering better facilities (eg loos) without compromising too much of its character The hotel has a great location, with an easy walk to the beach.

The breakfast was okay, if what you like to eat is a fry-up. My husband loved it! I would prefer to eat fruit, yogurt, nuts and toast made with decent bread (not flimsy sliced stuff). I asked for the cooked tomatoes, but they only had tinned ones - fine for cooking, not fine to serve heated up on their own for breakfast. I kept looking longingly at the bakery opposite.

De kamer met zeezicht was prachtig en erg comfortabel, grotendeels goed schoongemaakt. De medewerkers in de bar waren erg vriendelijk. Het ontbijt in het restaurantje naast het hotel was prima, ook hier vriendelijk personeel.

De medewerker die ons ontving sprak zó snel dat wij er niets van konden verstaan, waardoor we nog aan andere medewerkers informatie moesten gaan vragen. De afvoer in de douche was al tijden niet schoongemaakt waardoor het water niet goed wegliep en de douche bijna overstroomde. Pevensey is geen gezellige stad om langer te verblijven, maar als je 1 nacht moet overbruggen is het prima. Je moet geluk hebben om een parkeerplaats bij het hotel te bemachtigen, het parkeerterrein is erg klein.

Location of hotel to where we needed to get to.

The check in wasnt until 3pm and check out at 10 am . In the room a few unnecessary faults. The shower was poor very hot one minute and cold the next. Very poor water pressure. It didnt drain away and had to use hand towels to prevent it flooding the whole bathroom. The sink taps didnt turn on instantly. The products provided were awful and very manly smelling and not full up in their containers. The kettle had water from previous occupancy. No one to report to as no real reception and a basket to drop room key in . Very little contact with any staff .

Breakfast was in the cafe next to the hotel. We thought they could have allowed a juice and a coffee as part of the breakfast. The breakfast was very good though

A interesting pub, lively, with a buzz and pleasant helpful staff. The property is acceptibily clean, has a good shower and is not cramped if you have a balcony room.

Some maintenance issues with the room and cleaning issue with the grouting in the shower. Poor organisational behaviours with the accommodations management.Easy to cure with some method applied.

Friendly & helpful staff, very comfortable bed with good quality bed linen. Very quiet in room despite being at a junction/traffic lights, no sounds from traffic, bar or other guests. Free onside parking was a bonus. Cafe staff very polite and remembered my coffee choice on 2nd morning :)

I had to think about this and my only comment would be that a bit bigger tv would be nice.

Location , 100 yrds from the shingled beach. Breakfast , which was next door at the bay view diner, had a good selection.

Shower was poor Bed was too soft for us and a noticeable ridge where the 2 single beds were pushed together . Although a double room, in the “seating” area, there was only one chair!

The location was great, the room was big with a fridge and wonderful view. The staff were friendly and the food was nice. Free parking (if you get there early enough) and only a small walk to the waterfront.

It was very much a locals pub and very loud, until late. I was unfortunate having a room directly above a smoking area where it was constant noice by traffic and drunks. There is a quieter bar by the see front which is nice.

Having a reasonably sized car park was important (even though it was on a first come first served basis). The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room and the facilities were nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable The cooked breakfasts offered were good Great location for the access to the beach and local bus service. The bar has TVs showing football etc

The lack of storage space in the room for bags etc. An inconsistent level of facilities were provided in the rooms. Our room had a small bottle fridge, whereas our friends room didn't have one. Lack of sufficient towel rails in the en-suite shower room (there was room to fit another one near the shower). The pull up blind over the door to the balcony was broken and only had one string instead of two. There was a thick layer of dust on a few of the surfaces that remained all stay e.g. the floor standing fan. Room service was not that good - tea/coffee making items, biscuits & water were not checked automatically each day whether or not you asked for the room to be made up. Very unusually, no breakfast cereals were offered - only cooked options. Normally, both options are provided, along with free fruit juice (which cost extra here). The noise from the bar area on Saturday night was very loud and lasted until around mid-night. Our room was directly above the pool table area which has a sliding folding door that opens up to a large opening directly to the street - this allows a great deal of noise to escape !

A welcoming hotel that has been recently renovated and still appears new, situated on a corner with road on two sides, a small carpark to the rear, very close to the beach, and local shops . On the ground floor, there's a pub offering bar food, but it remains quiet later in the evening. Breakfast, served at the café next door, was truly one of the best cooked breakfasts I’ve ever had

Best value for the cost, could not find any faults worth mentioning.

Location suited our needs. parking was good.

Breakfast was in the café next door with poor selection. Accommodation was not suitable for people with poor mobility. Too many steep stairs to navigate. Ensuite was accessed with two steep steps. Poor maintenance since refurbishment with stained carpet, radiator fallen off the wall and not fixed, shower tray was held together with duct tape. No safety hand rail in the shower.

Loved the room, lovely and big and bed was comfortable. Kettle was available which was a bonus as I love a cuppa first thing. The shower was lovely and the view was great.

Mooi plek in het plaatsje dicht bij Zee en pub en restaurants om de hoek. Vriendelijk personeel en alles heel gemakkelijk.

We zijn er vaker geweest en nu was het de eerste keer dat er bij het ontbijt maar één drankje zat. Ws voorheen niet en is wel een beetje raar, dat je orange jus of een extra koffie dan moet betalen.

Near to the beach

Very noisy, although that’s not the hotels fault, room 8 was very small with no drawers , had to keep the windows closed due to the column of traffic. The shower could do with a good clean, the tile grout was brown and the plug in the shower was dirty, every else was clean , nice bedding and lovely white towels, a pity the bathroom let them down. The side lights were badly positioned, we kept banging our heads on them. Also the room could do with a small fridge

Un ottima posizione, vicino alla spiaggia, in una località tutto sommato tranquilla e comoda per vedere le Seven Sisters. Possibilità di parcheggio o privato dell'hotel o davanti sulla strada in ovni caso sicura (noi eravamo in moto). Camera ampia, accogliente. Bagno ok logicamente inglese. Letto alla francese, personalm.lo preferisco un po più ampio. La struttura non è ben isolata dal rumore, nel senso che li scarichi li avverti al mattino quando vengono usati e poi le persone delle altre stanze le senti quando passano e parlano, in quel caso dipende dall'educazione dei vicini. La colazione si fa un una struttura vicino ti viene dato un buono da presentare al personale. Noi comunque siamo stati bene e potremmo ripetere l'esperienza.

We hadden een upgrade in verband met Genius punten. Mooie torenkamer met ruime badkamer. Ventilator en koffie/thee faciliteiten op de kamer. Hotel heeft een bar waar live muziek was. Ontbijt vindt plaats in de naastgelegen diner; omelet met kaas was erg goed. Mijn man nam full breakfast, lekkere koffie. Aan het strand zit de Aqua Bar wat een mooi uitzicht heeft op de zee en strand toen wij er waren was er een DJ.

The breakfast was in a separate diner attached to the hotel which was open to the general public. The arrangement worked fine. It was close enough to the beach to have a slow walk over the shingle after breakfast and take in the view. I had travelled by train with friends picking me up and dropping me off by car, which they could do easily turning into and around in the hotel car park. There was no lift but the staircase was fitted with one of the best handrails I've seen in a while.

Considering its positioning in the market as an affordable hotel, it ticked all the boxes and was perfectly adequate for my purposes.

The room decor was modern and the sheets & towels were clean and plentiful.

This is not a hotel, more a pub with rooms. There is no staff on duty and we had to wait 15 minutes for someone to come and check us in while loud music blared from the bar. Breakfast is provided at the Diner next door and there is no alternative to a cooked breakfast - no cereals, yogurt, fruit juice, etc. The room was very dusty in places, particularly the refreshment tray, hair dryer, heated towel rail.

Room was abit small with Limited storage, if staying for a week I would upgrade to a bigger room. Parts of the bathroom were abit worn and could definitely use a new toilet seat.

The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast in the cafe next door was very nice and the staff were friendly and helpful in the hotel and the cafe. The location was great as we were attending a family party close by

Mooi oud victoriaans gebouw, grote en nette kamer dichtbij zee en verschillende eetgelegenheden in de buurt.

De hotelkamers zijn boven een pub en wij waren er op zaterdagavond, voor 1 nacht op doorreis. Deze avond was er karaoke en daarna de halve finale van het voetbal. Dus was het nogal gehorig. Verder wél goed geslapen en we hadden een fijn bed. Het ontbijt was in het restaurant ernaast, goed verzorgd alleen moesten we er 45 minuten op wachten. Dat was een beetje jammer, maar het was druk.

Aufgrund der Top-Lage mitten im Ort und der Lage an der Hauptstraße vom Strand, ist sehr viel Verkehr. Trotzdem war es in der Nacht sehr ruhig. Zu kleines Waschbecken…

Das Hotel liegt direkt an einer trubeligen Straßenkreuzung. Es war schwierig zu schlafen, da es sehr laut ist.

Central to explore Eastbourne / Hastings / Battle , and although a pub did not here anything which was amazing as there for the England game East walk to beach. fish and chip shop nest door and convenience store too

Small car park which we had to wait to get a space , although a few on street bays the nearest car park although a two minute walk was quite expensive to park in

The room was great, very clean, had everything I needed. Staff were great and very friendly.

Skid marks in toilet, shower had very poor lighting, lights on headboard were in bad position as I hit my head on them, we were only given breakfast tokens for 1 day instead of 2 days we tried calling the phone numbers for reception staff and the call point numerous times but no luck so had no breakfast on 2nd day.

Location is great less than a minute from the Sea, a bar that stays open after 10pm, amazing, nice Diner next door.

Room was overlooking the traffic lights, it's quite a busy junction, it is what it is.

It was good value for money. There was a fan in the room as room 12 was south facing. Large bathroom. A bottle of water with tea/coffee was available. A car park was available on a first arrive basis. Nice cooked breakfast in the diner next door.

There was no wardrobe as such just two hangers on a rail with a shelf. You had to run the water for a few minutes to get hot water. Breakfast was in the diner next door where service was very slow

Check in process a little odd but I suppose it worked ok once you pressed the ring doorbell. Every door simply needs some WD40 for the hinges, quite noisy.

Wij hadden het torenkamertje en dat was opvallend leuk en door de zeewind koel ondanks dat er geen airco is. Zelfs zeezicht is inclusief en zoals het lijkt zijn alle kamers netjes en schoon. Personeel van het hotel is heel aardig, de ontvangst is hartelijk.

Het ontbijt krijg je een paar deuren verderop en is een tegenvaller. Echt alle onderdelen van het English Breakfast waren niet lekker en het meeste hebben we dan ook maar laten staan. Jammer, want zo moeilijk zou het toch eigenlijk niet hoeven te zijn.

De bediening van de douche was wat lastig, en de warme kraan schakelde automatisch uit na een aantal minuten. Je moest wat moeite doen om het zeer vriendelijke personeel dat van Indische afkomst was te verstaan.

Room was clean and offered a fan - room would have been too hot otherwise.

The window was only single glazed so did nothing to keep out the traffic noise. There was a thick blind that stopped the evening air from coming in from the open window which meant the heat stayed in the room. Using the fan was noisy. It was impossible to sleep for the majority of the night because of the traffic noise made worse by so many motor bikes passing! Only a couple of hours of peace before it started up again at 5 a.m. I wasn't told how to use the shower and ended up having to wash in the tiny sink!! Was supposed to stay a second night but needed to go home early to get a good night's sleep and shower!!!

Our room was fine. Clean, spacy good shower, tea and coffee. Also cooled - temperature outside was 35 degrees.

Bar area was tatty and loud music.

Lekker gegeten, het Sunday Roast! En later heerlijk geslapen in een prima hoog bed. S'ochtens een prima engels ontbijt gehad en verder gereden naar het eiland Wight.

Eigenlijk helemaal niets, was een prima plek om een tussenstop te maken maar wat dagen langer had ook gekund.

This is are second stay here and received a lovely welcome. Another comfortable and clean room with tea, coffee, water available. A hairdryer and a fabulous electric fan; the weather was very hot, so this was extremely welcome. Love breakfast. The new bar closed at 10pm so there was no noise from there at all. Very close to the beach enabling us to have an early dip.

Dusche war klein, und die Tür ließ sich nicht optimal bewegen. Enge, steile Treppen, wenn man ein Zimmer oben bekommt.

Große, helle Zimmer. moderne Einrichtung. Das Personal war hilfsbereit und freundlich.

Das Frühstück im danebenliegendem Diner. Das Lokal war sehr eng und laut, die Einrichtung, insbesondere die Stühle, alt und verschlissen.

Great location. Really clean. I had a single room but was quite spacious. Great to have a clean and moden shower room. Fan provided which worked!

Car park is a little small. Couldnt check in or leave bags until 1600.

Great location and room (19) exceeded expectations. Very clean and modern. Good shower. Nice welcome. Provided a fan and water in warm weather. Good hanging space.

The only things I would change would be the pillows (too small/soft) and the towels (just a bit small).
