The room was massively overpriced, the finish and overall feel had crack den undertones, the bed was horrific and uncomfortable isn’t the word i didn’t sleep a wink. The noise outside till 5am can only be compared to an active warzone, Apart from hot running water I’d of been better staying in a doorway outside greggs. I will have trauma shudders over that room for some time Diabolical stay NEVER AGAIN

I really loved my stay here. What I appreciated the most was how everything had been thought through down to the smallest details. There was complimentary bottled water, crisps and earplugs, as well as both a fan and a heater, which was a lovely touch. The shower was excellent, and there was everything you could need, including soap, shampoo and other toiletries. You can really tell that the hosts have put a lot of thought into making guests feel comfortable. I really appreciated all these little details and would definitely recommend this place!

It was a little noisy from the street at times, as the extractor fan would occasionally come on during the night. However, earplugs were provided, so it wasn’t really a problem

The overall decor within the deluxe room was nice.

The stairwell graffiti artwork was cheap looking. The location above the nightclubs was too noisy and vibrating. The bathrooms smelt damp with no ventilation. The towels smelt damp. The bath products were cheap. The shared kitchen facilities were too basic. The landing area and shared kitchen was uninviting. There was no staff on site.

The property was spotlessly clean located right in the centre of York. Received instructions on how to get into the property on the morning of our stay managed to get in an hour early so we could explore York without having to carry all our luggage around, the entrance was more like a teenagers bedroom with graffiti all over the walls, it was nice but this did not match the decor in any of the rooms, seemed a bit odd? however the rooms were really pleasant with nice decor and lots of extras such as bottled water snacks and the bathroom was huge. The bed was small but reasonably comfortable, central location so we were in walking distance to everything shops Yorkminster lots of restaurants etc. Saw one member of staff who was very polite and friendly.

Although the Central located this was great during the day, on the evening with people stood around outside bars I can imagine this would feel alittle intimidating entering and exiting, luckily it was quite quiet but I wouldn’t feel happy to have my younger children with me and stay there. After reading reviews we knew the rooms were likely to be hot however even with a large industrial size fan the room was unbearably hot, this meant we had very little sleep. Ear Plugs were provided thank God as the noise from the surrounding bars and businesses woke us up, unfortunately we didn’t find the earplugs until we’d almost given up on sleep altogether, so did manage to have a couple of hours. The noise was wasn’t as bad at night. It started at about 5/430am, no idea what was going on or if this was a one off. As part of the stay it had been noted that there was free luggage storage at the next door bar, unfortunately why they had failed to mention is that said bar was closed for two days Mondays and Tuesdays, this isnt in any of the booking information. One of the reasons we decided to book this particular hotel/room was that it was central and also that there was luggage storage, we visited York a number of times and stayed overnight and wanted to make the most of our day so having to haul suitcases and bags around for the rest of the day along cobble streets was a bit of a nightmare, especially with very little sleep. Really disappointed that this was not mentioned prior, we would of made alternative arrangements or not booked the room if we’d known there was nowhere to start luggage. So for the rest of the day until we were leaving we had to carry all our belonging round with us on very busy crowded streets.

Very clean and well equippped . A perfect hideaway right in the centre of York . Conveniently located . It is up 6 flights of stairs but that kept us fit .

Very nicely furnished and clean Rachel was very efficient in allowing us to upgrade and to have an apartment ( with extra bed placed in living room) rather than a twin bed room

Unfortunately due to it Central location it was above the bar and restaurant and the loud music was going on to well on till midnight. The room was rather dimly lit and tea and coffee facilities were in the downstairs kitchen. The wet room suite was fine. Not value for money

Very good location, quick walk from the train station and from all the major tourist spots. Nice touch having the tea/coffee/water and snacks in the room. Easy to access with instructions sent in good time before arrival. Fan in room to help it keep cool.

Be warned it is next to a bar so music can be loud if you are a light sleeper, but earplugs were provided. A/C would be a help to keep room cooler.

Fantastic location in central York. Nice room, tea making facilities with milk in the fridge.

fantastic location, would imagine it gets noisy on weekends late night, but thats all because of location and you can't have it all, would definately book again and recommend, the fan was a great bonus. having tea and coffee making facilities and soft drinks in the foyer was a welcome plus.

The beds in the twin room are extremely narrow. Guests require an advanced feeling of balance to sleep on them. This is a basic thing. No matter how clean and well-located the hotel is when it is impossible to sleep in the room.

Good location right in the centre, good staff at check in and good communication.

Loud music till 1am from venue below the accommodation. (Ear plugs were provided) Pillows in need of replacement, stuffing all clumped together. Shared facilities, iron and kettle not in your room. Need blackout curtain that covers the entire window

We were lucky enough to be upgraded to the apartment took us by surprise was a great size apartment if your staying for a few days , all amenities are there , even included water & milk in fridge , wash pods for washing machine etc , we found some board games & cards which finished out night off , apartment was very clean , very central everything was on our doorstep, hosts were very quick with reply’s whenever we messaged , was a great stay would totally recommend and come here again if we visit

The location was great- very convenient to the centre.

Climbing up three flights of stairs was tough. Room was very small, and no real storage. Additionally on either side of the hotel are venues that stay open until 3am with very loud music. I appreciated the hotel providing ear plugs- however these were of limited use. Expensive- however not unusual for location.

I had not anticipated the impact of the noise - it was unbearably loud until 3am and impossible to sleep. Great if you are going to join in the fun, but otherwise avoid. Bathroom smells reported by others were very bad.

It was right next to a pub and even with the windows closed the noise from the music was pretty intense. But for the location it was what it was.

Firstly, I was expecting only a room and was upgraded to an apartment. This was unexpected and very pleasing. The facilities in the kitchen were adequate and if staying there longer it would have been useful to have a functioning kitchen and washing machine. I absolutely loved the location to be right in the heart of the Shambles was a real bonus. I was able to walk out and be right where I wanted to be among shops, bars and close to the minster. The bed was comfortable enough and everything (sheets towels surfaces etc) was spotlessly clean. Easy exit and entry to the apartment.

Obviously, been in the heart of the old town in a narrow street had the potential to be noisy; but earplugs were available on the table for those who are light of sleeping. For me the slight disappointment of the apartment was the size of the Toilet and Shower Room. The toilet was very narrow and therefore the hand basin was very small making it impossible to wash hands without water going everywhere. Similarly the Shower Room (which had the fire exit in it) was so small that the basin was again way too small to be easy to use. For instance, when asking your face or cleaning your teeth it was impossible to lean over the basin without banging your head on the wall. Not conducive to easy washing

Main problem was heat and absence of ventilation. Just a fan didn't help bring the temperature down and being a loft room it was way too hot. May be better not at height of Summer.

Tidy room, comfortable sleeping arrangements and a large fan was provided for the warm weather which was really appreciated! It’s also in a great spot with lots of local amenities and popular stores/restaurants close by.

There was quite a lot of stairs to get to the room and it seems like the lift is broken and has been boarded up. Furthermore considering some hotels nearby offer rooms at a similar price this place gives very basic student accommodation/night club vibes. However I was glad the room was comfortable and it was somewhere to stay in a city where there’s plenty to see.

A perfect apartment for one or a couple …right in the centre on historical street. It was a heat wave when I stayed and I had two good fans to help with staying cool and earplugs provided! Slept well because of this. Very comfortable bed and nice linen sheets . Good coffee bags and Taylor’s tea and fresh milk in the fridge. These touches made all the difference!

Toilet very small …. Not easy to navigate! Couldn’t open bedroom windows.

Absolutely horrendous stay, wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Noise levels are the worst I have ever experienced.

The location is undeniably central, putting you within walking distance of York's main attractions, restaurants, pubs, and historic sites. If your plan is to spend most of your time exploring the city and very little time in your room, that convenience may appeal. The check-in was straightforward.

Unfortunately, almost everything else. The biggest issue is the mismatch between expectation and reality. The photographs create the impression of a stylish boutique hotel, but what you actually get feels much closer to a cleverly marketed hostel. At £260 for two nights, that discrepancy becomes very difficult to overlook. The room was extremely small and felt cramped from the moment we arrived. There was barely enough space to move around comfortably, and the overall standard simply did not justify the price being charged. The bed was uncomfortable, which would have been disappointing under any circumstances, but became particularly frustrating given the second major problem: the noise. The Fort sits in the middle of a busy nightlife area, and the noise carries on well into the early hours. Music, shouting, drunken conversations, and general street noise continued late into the night. Earplugs are provided in the room, which is perhaps the clearest indication that this is a known issue rather than an occasional inconvenience. Sleep was poor throughout our stay. What should have been a relaxing break in one of England's most beautiful cities became an exercise in ignoring the constant noise outside. Ultimately, the problem is value for money. Had this cost half the price, many of the shortcomings would have been easier to accept. At £260 for two nights, however, the experience felt like a complete rip-off. York offers many accommodation options, and in hindsight, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone seeking comfort, quiet, or a genuine hotel experience.

It was central to York

There was an awful smell of sewage in the bathroom, I had to buy a spray cleaner to get rid of it, there was no headboard on the bed just bare walls, the curtains were thin an let in the lights from the street, there was a club/bar directly below that played music until the early hours of the morning with the room banging, I wouldn’t have booked had I known and I only had a couple of hours sleep each night as I was at a conference at the weekend. The bedding had a sweat smell

Fabulous location, completely central and within walking distance of everything you could need. We were in the loft apartment and it was fabulous! Bright colours and amazing art buy also lovely and cosy. Comfy sofa and large TV, but also stocked with any essentials you could need as well as nice touches such as bottled water, earplugs, a fan, hairdryer and far more kitchen supplies than any other holiday apartment I've stayed in. Incredibly clean too! The bed was really comfy and could see the York mister from the window. Given we were there the weekend of York races, the noise was minimal and the only thing we could hear loudly was the minster bells which were beautiful to wake up too. So much to do in York and this was the perfect base, Would fully recommend for anyone looking for a weekend break or longer.

The only negative was the bathrooms felt like a slight afterthought as there were 2 shower wetrooms, both with tiny sinks with the cheap feeling pull out plastic loo roll dispensers. It would've been more practical for us to have one for a shower room and the other to have a larger sink and toilet. The loo roll dispensers stood out as they didn't match the quality of the rest of the place. This is personal preference though and given everything else exceeded expectations it wouldn't change my opinion of staying again or overall rating.

The mixer on the shower didn’t work so it was just insanely hot. I informed the property so Should be sorted now. Other than that it was great. Would definitely stay again.

The noise on a Wednesday night and early morning caused interrupted sleep. Hallway had a strange smell of cooked vegetables. Stayed in room 6 and there was a constant sound of what I can only describe as a humming generator. Pillows on the bed were lumpy and need replacing.

I didn't realise we had booked a hostel! But it didn't really effect our stay at all as we had a private bathroom. There is a kitchen to make tea & coffee and a microwave and crockery/cutlery etc The room was huge and really tastefully decorated, the bed was also really comfortable. The location could not be better, a few steps from stonegate, the minster, the shambles etc Staff were great and replied to emails promptly and helped when needed

There was a strange smell in the hall and bathroom, a bit like cabbage! 🤣 The most obvious downfall of the property is that it's right above a nightclub. It was a bit annoying but we had earplugs and as long as your not going to bed early, it's not a HUGE problem. We would stay here again. It was quite expensive but it was the bank holiday weekend. The kitchen would benefit from a toaster for a cheap quick breakfast instead of heading out.

The fort is ideally located for a short stay in York. Room was clean and beds were comfortable but narrow.

We stayed in room 5. It felt cramped for two people. Was barely enough room for one person to walk around the room, let alone two people. The hanging rail was not sufficient for two people staying for more than one night. There was no room for bags/cases. Wasn’t sure whether we were able to use the kitchen facilities in the kitchenette, as the information provided did not mention, however, I’m sure we could have if needed. The noise from the bar below wasn’t a distraction for us, but I think it would be for some, especially as we needed to open the window because of the warm temperature of the Bank Holiday weekend. The fact ear plugs are provided suggests this has been an issue for others.

Well situated, and though it was louder in the evening being so close to a number of pubs etc, they did provide earplugs. It’s right in the town, so very close to amenities, and feels very secure with the keypad lock for entry to the building.

Room was a little smaller than anticipated and would have loved a mini fridge and tea/coffee facilities that were not communal.

The location was great, the facilities were excellent - the building was wonderfully converted. The staff who showed us to our room was very friendly

The only thing I didn't like was that the mattress was an old style with springs and my back hurt the next morning. With all the memory foam mattresses available, it would take very little to buy new mattresses.

That 1 member of staff and 2 door staff came up to the room ready to kick us out as they found it suspicious that we could afford the room because of the way we looked I wish I hadn't stayed there and I won't ever stay and I will be advising other not to either

Lovely room, clean, comfortable and some nice little extras like snacks and bottles of water. The location couldn't be better, everything I wanted to do and see was within a few minutes walk. When I'm back in York I would have no hesitation to book here again.
