Yes the property is stunning
This is a lovely property located very close to the Dhela gate of the national park. We loved the rustic vibes, nicely appointed and spacious rooms (booked the Jungle Lodges), and amenities like the pool, spa, and lovely lounge areas. The staff are incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Recommend!
Very nicely designed and maintained. Loved the forested location. Very kind and helpful staff.
Wifi was weak in the Lodge.
Location, staff behaviour, food, facilities, spacious and clean room.
Food prices are a little higher but the food they serve was fresh and hygienic
Lovely location and set up
It was difficult to navigate / find the property after dark ! No signage to guide. We ended up at the back gate of the property. Meal choices could be better. Didn’t think buffet dinner and lunch meals were value for money.
The raw ambience & jungle decor . Great staff & service. Comfortable rooms, tastefully done. Curated food menu's & sumptuous.
Though the pool is nice, does need some maintenance.
Upkeep of the pool
The room is very tastefully done. The staff is so kind.
A la carte did not have much to choose from
Location location location. Right at the Jhirna safari zone (and Dhela zone) so it was convenient for early morning safaris. The pool was lovely on a hot afternoon. The breakfast was excellent and always had continental and Indian breakfast offerings it try. The chef is excellent and creates unique dishes with a twist. The resort offered some activities like rock painting and spa services. The cottage was spacious and amazing. It had 2 separate bedrooms and bathrooms so our family of 4 was very comfortable. Gave a nice feeling of luxury while also being rustic.
If I must mention something I didn’t like as much… it was the food timings. Dinner was not open until around 8pm and the limited food menu for dinner meant mostly Indian food offerings, which was delicious for me, but my kids didn’t prefer it. The other dining option closes at 7:00 but they were flexible and let us order some items that were not on the menu.
JJR is a find! Let me break this down for you. The Retreat- it is a 15 acre agricultural land adjacent to Jim Corbett buffer zone. It is reforested and the layout and the architecture beautifully conforms to its ethos of being a nature resort. Accommodation- we stayed in a two bedroom, two bathroom cottage. The cottage was spacious with an old world Dak Bungalow charm but with all modern amenities .The decor and furnishings are tasteful and comfortable and in keeping with the theme of the Retreat. Our cottage had a great verandah with super comfy seating. The cottage has a lot of privacy thanks to the many trees and shrubs that surround each cottage. These natural screens attract a delightful variety of birds that chirped and twittered throughout the day. Facilities- There's a two storied cafe overlooking the buffer zone, a poolside dining area that's quite spacious, a nicely sized swimming pool, spa and yoga room, a fairly large gathering room where one can play board games or just sit and relax in the evenings. There's a bar and a good library with books on wildlife as well as my childhood favourites, Asimov and Alistair Maclean. JJR also arranges safaris to Jim Corbett. A hassle free premium experience worth every penny. We went to Jhirna and Bijrani. USP- JJR is a mini sanctuary in itself and there's a nicely constructed nature trail within the retreat with water bodies, bamboo thickets and a machan with comfy chairs to sit. Its a birdwatcher's delight. The naturalists at JJR are knowledgeable and ready to guide the guests. Every evening the retreat screens documentaries on conservation which were very interesting. Food- there's limited choice of food but prepared really well, especially the Kumaoni delicacies. there's no room service as there are small animals around. the staff is courteous, pleasant and ready to help. JJR is immaculately maintained and very clean.
It's not a your regular sort of hotel. Don't expect TV, and shiny resorty stuff. It 's a comfortable, elegant and understated resort. Choose JJR if you want a quiet holiday in the lap of nature.
Lunch was great
They should work on dinner In non veg they should add chicken rather than only mutton and need more options
The property had a nice jungle Lodge vibe which we were looking for .. staff was very friendly & helpful , food was also very nice .. I would go back again in the future .
Room Rates were a bit high but we had not compared to other properties.
The rooms were very comfortable and also nicely decorated with antiquey furniture and art with themes of the location. Rooms were also quiet large and the two different rooms we stayed in both had lovely outdoor space to sit as well as windows with screens that open to let in air. There is also a library with lots of books about the history and wildlife (among other topics) and another patio to sit and read. I also much appreciated the yoga room! The staff were 100%, excellent attention We liked the rewilding philosophy of the resort and steps toward sustainability We much appreciated the French press to make our own coffee too as we typically like it stronger than normally served
Nothing. All fabulous!
Amazing location
Could have been little cheaper
Very cosy jungle like feel, wonderful staff.
Far from some gates so make sure your gate is either Dhela or any other gate is near if you stay here. Not a very kid friendly hotel in my opinion.
Property and its vibe
Great staff/service and amazing food!
very nice and healthy
Hospitality
Food menu
Love the property, as it was in complete wilderness. We had deers and other animals come to our lodge late night
The forest setting.
The food could be better.
The Jungle like feel of the resort was complimented by the aestetics and the delicious authentic food.
1. Staff goes about and beyond to make your stay perfect. They’ve set a new benchmark for hospitality from what I’ve experienced so far. When I mentioned I was driving from Delhi, the gave me suggested routes, took constant updates and kept a team ready to receive me late at night. 2. The rooms, they captured the old colonial jungle house theme with all modern facilities. There’s air conditioning, heating (although not good enough), tea and coffee maker, umbrella and yoga mat with good amount of storage. They’re clean and well maintained. 3. Food- breakfast is included in your package and it’s a balance of local and international cuisine. I’d highly recommend opting to taste everything in the menu- which is curated daily by the chef. I enjoyed the Kumaoni cuisine, made fresh with local ingredients and some of them grown at the property itself! Also, they bake biscuits in-house and they’re right beside the tea and coffee maker in your room. I could go on for days and not run out of things I liked. I’d highly recommend going for a stay here.
1. The room heater (oil filled radiator) wasn’t sufficient for the winter temperatures. Even with prolonged use, it could barely warn a feet or two around it. 2. Despite having good fences, the property is based in close proximity to a jungle, as soon as you step outside your room there’s a risk of meeting the local wildlife. Although not predators, but snakes, insects and monkeys are common. The walk from the reception and dining to the cottages is a poorly lit and can get a bit scary. Members of staff would accompany or drive you around in an e-rickshaw, I’d highly recommend asking them instead of venturing alone or leaving your kids.
I loved the entire experience. Every aspect of the stay was excellent from the first minute at the entrance being greeted with the tiger outside in the park to the very end. The food was excellent with a beautiful presentation and taste. The atmosphere was stunning and relaxing. I was not prepared for such a comfortable stay it exceeded my expectations. Go because it’s a must go to destination.
I only disliked that I had to leave.
Staff were little helpful
Limited food options No activities Rooms heater not working properly
Superb service, staff were polite and very attentive all through our stay. The resort has limited accommodation and has an ultra premium feel to it.
Nothing to mention of significance
Serene!! Gives a true jungle experience. Well managed. Good trained staff.
Too many monkeys around !!
First of all it was right next to the reserve, because we came from Delhi where the AQI was around 250 and here it was only 65.,so our lungs experienced some less pollutents. I really liked the greenery here and the food ,which was completely local cuisine, the food here was very pure and made without any preservatives, I especially enjoyed the ragi roti with chutney and their jams which were made right there . I would especially like to thank Devji ,he introduced to us all the places and told us all about the trees in their property. We didn't have some of the trees in our farm so we even brought some trees from their nursery. Our stay was quite short ,whenever I go there next, I would like to stay for a long duration to enjoy the places.
Only thing I didn't like was our short stay .😒
Staff was amazing. Great service.
Need renovations. Rooms need urgent attention. Quite expensive Food and Beverage considering the offering and portion size.
Our stay in Jim's Jungle Retreat was exceptional. It felt so magical to be in a small cottage in their property. The property has been growing trees for 20 years, but they thoughtfully mapped out the property in advance, so the geography is seamless. The photos do not do it justice as the cafe is incredible, it is so beautiful, with so many small touches. The food was incredible, and the breakfast was such an amazing experience each day, and the lunch was one of the best meals I have ever had. I also had an exceptional massage, in the beautiful setting of the library. What stood out the most was the staff: I have never met a kinder and attentive staff, everyone was so thoughtful and so positive and they genuinely made it a pleasure to stay there. We have stayed in so many hotels and resorts in India and this was our favourite, cannot recommend it enough. Thank you so much to the whole staff for our very lovely stay.
The swimming pool area surface could have been slightly renovated, but my son loved the paw prints in the concrete, it was a really lovely touch.
Jungle , food , rooms , people
Nothing as such
That it’s in the jungle totally peaceful and quiet
I liked everything
The Retreat and it's surrounding a beautiful, filled with birds and wildlife. The pool is also beautiful, very well maintained and peaceful. The complimentary nature walks and yoga sessions each day were also fab. Breakfast was delicious, and the cookies and filtered water replenishment were also much appreciated. The cottage was very comfortable, complete with a 5am langur on the roof wake up alarm! A very restful and restorative stay.
The evening meal selection was a little limited, and often the food was only warm rather than hot, but it was still very tasty!
Proximity to wildlife. Staff friendly, helpful and accommodating. Restaurant good, I really appreciated gluten free options and fresh juices.
Bed not super comfortable. Restaurant menu descriptions often did not match meals prepared.
Breakfast fabulous. Naturalists were exceptional. Manisha, Guarav, driver for the safari Lovesuch?
The location is absolute amazing
Nothing really, everything was lovely. If I had to really nitpick then maybe they could keep the library open till late at night.
Pro : Right next to Gate for Dhela zone, well maintained property with plenty of flora. Also good for bird watching. Enthusiastic naturalist and very helpful staff. A fantastic Eco system.
Cons: overpriced stay for the facilities provided. Limited food options at breakfast.
Great resort! Wonderful cabins with old.world charm facilities. Loved the experience of staying in a unique property that takes pride in their sustainable practices. Great job!
One of the staff was rude and quite air headed. She had disregard for my elderly mother and made her walk to our vehicle in the opposite direction of where it was parked.
Breakfast was good. Combination of local and Indian cuisine. Location of restaurant along with ambience was excellent. The prices of property were a little higher but given the kind of facilities it looked reasonable.
I loved the dedication and passion of every staff member with specialist roles complimenting the authenticity in every detail of this incredible property. True professionals in their niche giving guests a sophisticated and unique jungle experience. The safari teams were next level with an English speaking professional naturalist, a driver and a local spotter explaining all of the animal, sounds, signals and tracks. All of that just for our private jeep experience. They packed delicious morning and afternoon tea packs for us including GF treats for my husband. ❤️
Nothing at all, it was what I expected and more from a jungle experience.
We were traveling as a group of friends but due to family illness I did not stay in Jim's Jungle Retreat. However my two friends did stay, and enjoyed it immensely. They said it had an old colonial charm and was a very cosy place, and the food and service they thought was terrific. They went on a safari arranged through the resort and had a wonderful time. No tigers spotted but an elephant was which was the highlight of their trip!
Nothing.
Cottage, forest and breakfast were excellent, also enjoyed the jeep safari
Other meal items were expensive and for two people portions were large so we could only order a couple of items to share in order not to waste food and keep down the bill. After the booking on Booking.com, we were required to send information by email and I made some additional enquiries but there was no response - this could have been better.
Lovely ambience, helpful staff. Particularly liked their eco-friendly approach.
The monkeys were a bit scary at first, but you soon got used to them.
Peaceful quiet location with great aethetics
Nothing
Property has been curated to a nice jungle ambience and has visiting wildlife like langoors, snakes, birds, etc. Restaurant and watch towers overlook the buffer zone, and are nice places to relax. Staff were very hospitable and helpful. Food and cocktails were great.
Would have been nice to have some indoor board games like Jenga, etc in the restautant or library. A formal setup to charge an EV car would be nice to have (they have now confirmed they can arrange it). A nice tea/coffee making station at the watch towers would have made that sitout even nicer.
The whole deal . From A- Z. Highly recommended . See my family and me coming back . The only hesitation would be the distance from the other main jungle gates when the park is open.
Everything was GREAT.
This place is wonderful! It feels like a small boutique hotel in between the jungle. Everything is nicely decorated with colourful details 😍 The food was great, rooms were comfortable and spacious with a tea/coffee station and cookies. The best thing were the two safaris we experienced. We had two long tiger sightings as well as elephant sightings and saw many other small animals. Our guide was great and explained everything so well during the safari! Everything was prepared so well, we even got snacks and drinks during the safari. This weekend escape was wonderful!
The good was nice
The setting, and the ‘home away from home’ feeling it gives the guest.
The western culinary offering…it is of poor quality
Everything. Just come back from our honeymoon, and out of the 5 hotels we stayed at, this was our favourite. From the friendliness of the staff, to the amazing food, the lovely pool, incredible safari, there was absolutely nothing to complain about. We had an outstanding time. Loved watching the short animal documentaries on the projector each evening, outside before dinner. So much on offer at the hotel, from the Spa, the library, cafe to the games room etc. Definitely recommend staying here!
Everything
Nothing
A real feeling of stepping back in time to the pre plastic days of hunting lodges set In beautiful countryside.
Everything. The feeling of a settlement in the jungle with little pathways winding to your cabin and great restaurants and lodges for tea and meals.
The staff was unbelievable friendly. We felt very comfortable there. Every day there was a new menu with delicious food and we enjoyed everything. They took tike to explain the menu and all the great recipes. We got an upgrade, so we had wonderful rooms with a perfect jungle view. Monkeys and birds were seen everyday! Also the naturalist is a very good employer, we did two safaris with him and are very happy, because we have seen a lot of animals, three tigers yesterday:) he could explain everything really good. The whole staff is absolutely brilliant and the retreat is in a wonderful area in a perfect green landscape. Thank you very much for this lovely stay.
We were living in wild with world class food and facilities
Nothing
Loved the rustic charm, the people who worked there and their knowledge of the national park.
It's a beautiful place. There's nothing you won't like
Rooms (or villas, to be more exact) and grounds were incredible, a genuine jungle retreat at a very decent price. Our safari was amazing, and Jim's Jungle Retreat made the experience even better.
perfect location and very clean, awesome food
despite paying good amount on the booking, property charges extra for petty things like toothbrush. All activities highlighted are paid. I would strongly recommend not to book jungle safari from the hotel. they have a very nice sales pitch and will charge double amount. there is no special service, just book directly on the government site.
Amazing serene, quiet jungle location away from hustle-bustle of city. Very appealing aesthetic colonial furnishing. Great hygiene & cleanliness. We lived in a family cottage. Loved the size of the rooms, furnishing & finish. We will visit again.
None
We had an amazing stay (4 days) at Jims Jungle Retreat as the last part of our 2 weeks roundtrip in India after stressful days we spent mostly in the crowded cities, we could not had a better stay to enjoy the quietness and beauty of the nature. The staff was extraordinary friendly and welcoming, we enjoyed delicious typical cuisine, the Resort has an totally beautiful athmosphere with well made details and lots of lovely places and lots of privacy. All was perfectly looked after and totally clean. We also enjoyed a private yoga class (one of the naturalists is a certified yoga teacher) and a wellness treatment and an educational walk through the village, where we learned a lot of interesting facts about the nature, also did 2 safaris with private naturalist, which explained the flora and fauna. We also had the luck of a tiger-sighting! But there are lots of other animals like elephants and deers and and and to discover. We hope to come back soon to enjoy this high-class accomodation in all segments, simpy perfect! Thank you to the whole team who gave us such a nice experience, continue like this!
Nothing, everthing was to our satisfaction and exceeded our expectations, was our best stay in India :)
fantastic staff, delicious food and beautiful rooms! such a lovely stay!
Once getting to the property it is beautifully arranged. The cottages are spacious and the showers are wonderful. Hot water is always available and there are plenty of heaters around to adjust to personal levels.
the drive to the retreat wasn’t on the most pleasant of roads
