Sands Inn, Mathiveri

Chaalu Mathiveri is a great place on an exceptional island. I stayed for one lovely month and everything about this place was super. The room is clean and well-equipped - comfy bed, A/C and wifi work great, plenty of hot water for showers. Laundry service is fast and inexpensive. Breakfasts are decent with a mix of protein and fresh fruits - sometimes continental and sometimes traditional Maldivian breakfast. I love the location near the harbor and bikini beach. The best part of my stay were the people - particularly the manager, Imma, who genuinely cares about making sure the guests have a happy experience by arranging fun and interesting adventure trips. I cannot recommend this guesthouse highly enough. Stay here - you'll be so glad that you did.

The location was perfect, just a few steps away from Bikini Beach, making it very convenient for enjoying the sea and relaxing. The host, Imma, was always very helpful, ready to provide excellent tips and organize excursions. The grilled fish dinner cooked by Imma was delicious and definitely one of the highlights of my stay. The bathroom could have been better maintained. It appeared a bit neglected, and occasionally there was an unpleasant smell. Improving this aspect would greatly enhance the overall comfort of the stay.

Our stay in Mathiveri was an unforgettable experience, made even more special by the incredible hospitality we received. A huge and heartfelt thank you to Imad, who truly made our time on the island so much richer. From the very beginning, Imad welcomed us with open arms, sharing not just his time but also his knowledge and passion for Maldivian culture. Whether it was exchanging stories about life in the Maldives, talking about football , or just enjoying good conversations, every moment felt meaningful. His kindness and genuine interest in making our stay memorable really touched us. He also took great care of all the logistics, arranging our excursions and speedboat transfers smoothly, which made everything so easy for us. And let’s not forget the excellent breakfasts—every morning started with delicious food that made us feel right at home! See u soon !!!

Thank you for your hospitality and warm welcome, we really appreciate the time spent at your guesthouse. We spent a week Chaalu Mathiveri Inn , from the very beginning we felt we were taken care of, we had the transfer from Male to Mathiveri organised, we got the room which we had booked, it was clean and looked like the one in the photo. The meals were very tasty, we had breakfast prepared on the spot and dinner (taken from the restaurant). The guesthouse is close to the bikini beach. The nearby sandbank and picnic island are the assets as you can get there yourself without paying for a trip. We recommend the guesthouse, the manager is very helpful, he spent a lot of time with us checking the best transport to other islands.

Nothing to complain about.

I had an amazing stay at this guesthouse! It is located in a peaceful area just a 1-minute walk from the beach. Initially, I booked for one night but ended up extending my stay for the entire time I was on the island. The place is clean, quiet, and offers delicious freshly made breakfasts every day. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and always ready to assist with any questions or requests, including helping to organize excursions. I would definitely return here again in the future!

The location of the property is very nice and super close to the beach! Also the food is amazing and the staff is really friendly and help you with everything.

The rooms are a bit outdated and had mold in some corners. The bathroom had a bad smell and was not very inviting.

Expensive for the small amenities proposed

We had a most magical time at Sands Inn at Mathiveri. The Fahudh and Niro are the most lovely people and made us feel comfortable at once. Fahudh, the manager was always reachable and helped us with everything, starting with typical requests like travel arrangements and trips, but also with other wishes and problems like buying some special local food or an ATM machine, that did not work on our last day, when we urgently needed cash. We had breakfast and lunch everyday. The food Niro prepared was incredible good and diverse, although we are difficult to serve as vegans. ;) Vegan fluffy pancakes like we never had before and the curries we will remember forever. The location of the Inn was also perfect. In 2-3 minutes to dreamy spots at the bikini beach and as well in 3 minutes at the harbour, where we watched dozens of nurse sharks and stingrays at many nights. Google maps makes it look like the bikini beach, is in the south west further away, but when we were there in November 2023 many parts along the south side were designated as bikini beach. On the public beaches you really have to be covered or someone will immediately tell you to put on clothes. But this is the same on all local islands. We did two trips. One to see Mantas and one to see Whale Sharks and both were successful and good organized. The snorkelling possibilities on south side, bikini beach are not so great. We found some nice spots behind the picinic island, where you can easily swim to. But there is also a better snorkelling area south of the harbour. There you have to pass a long not so deep area with corals to get to the deeper and beautiful area. This is only possible during the high tide. It is a bit stressful not to touch the Corals. The danger of getting hurt by the Corals is not so high, but you should also not touch them in order not to destroy them. Of course you have to swim with long cloth there, but you want to do this on sunny days anyway in order not to get heavily sun burned.

The tap water smelled, strongly like sulfur. I don’t know if this is a constant thing or if it will be gone in the future. We did not mind it anyway, but maybe some of you don’t like that so much. We like very soft beds and the beds were a bit hard for our taste, but others prefer it that way, so this is something very subjective.

Die Unterkunft war schön. Das Bad war klein, aber ausreichend. Der Wasserdruck ließ zu wünschen übrig, aber dann dauert das duschen halt etwas länger :) Das Leitungswasser roch jedoch streng nach verfaulten Eiern - ich weiß nicht, ob das so üblich ist. Können sie Unterkunft aber empfehlen. Das Frühstück war abwechslungsreich.

Room had no window.

The host Niro had a really personal touch and really took care of all the needs. He made excellent breakfast that he cooked himself and even asked beforehand what kind of fruit I would like to have. He took me to see the sharks at night as well as to see the crabs at the beach. The room was very comfortable, clean, really nicely furnished and the wifi was great.

Everything was good.

First of all, Dana, the host was really kind, available, funny and a very good chef! Every day he prepared for us different amazing deals! The property is clean, welcoming and close to the beach.

Dana is a very kind and nice person. He prepared for us food - breakfast, lunch and dinner (we had very tasty fish twice), he was there all the time for us and helped us to organize the trips. He was waiting for us at the port, helped us at the end with our luggage and leaving the island. The room was clean with aircondition and good ferniture.

There was no window in our room and the smell of some desinfection in the bathroom was not very nice at the arrivel

We enjoyed a lot staying at Sands Inn. During the 2 weeks, Auhsan and Dhanaja were very helpful and made us daily the most delicious meals. The guest house is so close to the beach. We took full board meals and it was worthy, as there are few places to eat on the island. We also tried the local bakery with local Maldivian fresh food and pastry. Delicious. Breakfast was with fresh fruit, eggs, butter, jam and toast. Instant coffee and tea daily. I really recommend this place.
