I'd say the better parts were the comfortable bed and great view from the living room window

For the amount I spent on a two night stay, I don't think it was up to a good enough standard When I checked in, the receptionist made a comment that dogs had used the room before I arrived, so when I got there the sofa was not clean and there were hairs on it, crisps were on the floor and sofa, and streaks over the main door windows from the dogs. Unsure why my cabin was used for this purpose when it was clearly going to be occupied that afternoon. Other bits of note were: The lamp in the living room was not working. Heating was not on when arrived with no instructions on how to turn it on so the room was freezing. Light in the hob extractor was not working. Mould in the grouting of the bath. No lids for saucepans. Cutlery and dishware wasn't cleaned well. Lots of cobwebs and spiders in corners of the rooms. While my confirmation emails stated no further payments were needed, I got multiple text messages stating I needed to pay a refundable security deposit. I assumed at the time these were scam messages as I had been warned and told to report and any means of additional payment. However upon arrival I was asked the same. This should be stated in the booking details.

The area is nice in wales there is about 3 other sites on the stretch of road.

How to start, the actual site is pretty but the lodge is average. It’s very close to other lodges and not much pricey at all (even though it looks like it on the website) they don’t tell you so I will they take a deposit (not just hold actually take it out of your bank) and don’t give it back till 7 days after your stay. The hot tub was very worn and the jets were broken, it was more like a warm bath. Reported straight away to a member of staff who said someone will fix it but I never seen anyone else for the 2 days I was there. There is a very loud humming noise at night what I think is a boiler attached what was like torture all night. The second night we had no running water at all what is a basic need. So no shower no flushing toilets no kettle nothing for the second day. Cleaning wasn’t up to scratch at all please see pictures. Lots of cob webs (looks like they have been there for years) floors wearing away. So very disappointing and to top it off customer after care is rubbish as well they don’t email you back and didn’t help at all. They didn’t even bother responding to booking.com so don’t bother.

Location was great. Beautiful setting with the Lakes. Hot tub was clean, warmed ready for us and maintained during our stay. Shop was handy with good selection and fair prices.

Pictures on booking.com or the description of our lodge were not accurate to what we received. Booking states bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom etc. We had a tiny one room cabin with a pull down bed. Not a seperate bedroom as the advert and booking suggested. No pictures on booking.com are of the lodge we were given, when raised with reception as I felt we have been mislead and if I had known we would have had that lodge for that price, would have gone elsewhere, I was told "We get that a lot from booking.com". No apology and quite disappointing I am not the only person to have raised this.

It was a lot of flys so we couldn’t stay in hot tub much . And when I say a lot of them I mean it . They was keep attacking us and hot tub was full of them . I had to sift them out lol. Apart that it was excellent .

Clean and in great location. Not full of kids making noises or chavy scruffs either. Just quiet people having a nice relaxing time.

Could hear a noise from the generator thing next to the hot timber on the first night but I think it’s because we forgot to close the window. Definitely staying again next year. Loved it to be honest.

Nice location, really nice walks around the site. Also an ice cream van pulled in on the site.

Needs a deep clean stains on couch they put throws on to cover. Hot tub needed a scrub. Few things broke or battered.

The location is beautiful. The staff were lovely, I really enjoyed the banter with the man on reception, his non-formal approach suited the place perfectly. The fold out bed was really comfy and the hot tub was great.

Was slightly disappointed the onsite shop sold so little. We were expecting to be able to buy simple groceries like bread and milk, fruit and vegetables. However it was only crisps, pot noodles and beer and wine, there were some eggs I think. The Booking.com photos showed photos of the bigger lodges only. So not the companies fault, as their website clearly shows how the Pod we stayed in looks.

Outdoor area was great with the hot tub and tv room next to it. Views were lovely.

The wildlife and the hot tub

Lodge was filthy, mold on curtains, mold and damp smell in bathroom! outside furniture was rotting! We were overlooked had no privacy even the ice cream van stopped outside our lodge everyday, music blaring queues off people when we were sat trying to relax in hot tub! there were parties taking place in the lodges facing, groups of young girls/lads! not what I expected when you use the word RETREAT in your advertising! far from relaxing, no privacy, paid £516 for 3 days yet not allowed in the lodge until 4pm then had to vacate before 10am! absolute rip off wont be returning thats for sure!

Every staff member we spoke to was amazingly friendly and helpful. When we asked about local walks one of the maintenance team took us out of the venue to show us where our chosen walk started. We had a couple of issues on arrival but these were dealt with quickly, with staff being very apologetic. The hot tub was amazing and the bed super comfy.

Beautiful place! The cabin was gorgeous and the beds were so comfortable! There’s a little shop on site with a good variety of foods, drinks and snacks. We went for my sisters 40th and when we arrived, they had put complimentary massive 40 balloons in the cabin. Really made the stay extra special!

Hot tub was very exposed with no shielding from path outside. It does say in the literature that only a handful of hot tubs are private but we missed this. We also had inconsiderate neighbours playing music loudly and had to complain.

On arrival at the property the decking was looking like it’s hasnt been repainted or waxed in forever. The front of lodge 25 hasn’t seen a jet was in a long time windows had been wiped with what can only be described as a dish cloth with oily swirls throughout. When opening the lodge we was greeted by 2 curtains that should have been replaced barely holding on with minimal hooks and dirty floors with boot prints throughout not been mopped in a while with build up of Mold and dirt in corners and in the reassess of the fold down bed. When pulling down the bed mattress stayed vertical showing its age and stains like it’s been left in there over many winters with damp and then dried out had to pick out long hairs from the bedding. We put towels down to sleep but it was so uncomfortable to sleep on the bed. In the bath room mold around the shower rubbers and above the shower lip. Veneer finishing missing from the shelving unit and a crack around the handle of the door where someone had tried forcing it open. No privacy when sleeping with a floor to ceiling window without blinds or curtains next to the bed. Plastic beading on ceiling panels looked like it had been pried and not put back correctly. For a self catering lodge no where to sit eat at a table or much room to prep a meal. Pictures on web site are incredible miss leading these show a new lodge nothing like you get. For a studio lodge its very small had to move our single suitcase multiple times out of the way to get round.

The two berth pod we rented for our daughter and partner was very small with a pull down bed. The kitchen was basic with no cooker!

All in one room but it was what was advertised so cannot complain! May want to book a bigger lodge next time but ideal for the 3/4 day stay we had booked

Location: The cabin contains everything needed, very clean, helpfull staff

Location was gorgeous, and the site was really cute, super friendly and kind staff who were more than happy to help with any issues, and even gave us the best ideas for pictures. Hot tub was perfect, and the lodge had everything you needed. Site was quiet after 9, so super relaxing.

The only issue we had was the windows in the lodge had been left open prior to us arriving at the lodge which meant there were some bugs in the lodge and it wasnt exceptionally clean upon arrival.

We were moved 3 times in 2 days due to disgusting facilities and general lack of hygiene in the lodges. The second lodge was infested with bats and stank to high heaven of bat poo which is also known to be highly toxic. Not happy at all with the place at all and they won’t give us a refund because they keep fobbing us off with we need to speak to a manager. Should be a ashamed of them selfs

Really bad experience. First cabin was filthy , leaking and bathroom was falling apart, got moved to the only other cabin they had, half the size we'd payed for amd the whole cabin felt like it was falling down hill

The location is very beautiful and the area.

Considering the money paid the accommodation wasn’t at those standards. The sofa was dirty and with dog fluff and broken and smelly, the curtains the same, smelly. Floor was dirty and no mop and bucket was offered or a vacuum. The hot tub wasn’t clean when we arrived so I requested to clean it and since them for the 3 days no one came To clean anymore even though in the instructions was mentioned that is cleaned 2 times a day…

Loved the buzzard lodge it was lovely The layout and cleanliness was beautiful Staff at reception were very kind and warming on arrival and I even got offered a lift to the lodge on their buggy by a passing staff!

The only thing that knocks this down is the privacy to use the hot tub in the buzzard lodge , it was infront of three other lodges with no privacy so we didn’t feel comfortable in using this as it was quite a busy place with people passing continuously

We arrived late afternoon, followed the texted instructions about check in and headed to our lodge. It looked nothing like the pictures. Was dirty, I have taken pictures. There was pubic hairs on the bed, hairs and toothpaste in the sink, missing curtain and the ones that was up was hanging off. Cleanliness should be a given whether you’ve paid £50 or £500 a night, it should be clean. We reported it to reception and was told there wasn’t much they could do as all the other lodges were full (yet we could book another lodge online for the same days). The receptionist then said she would send someone to come clean the lodge for us and we could sit on the balcony til it’s sorted if we want. The man who came to clean the pod agreed that it wasn’t acceptable and said he would sort it and would sort us with a bottle of complimentary Prosecco for the trouble. When he was stood in the room we pulled the bedding back and the room filled with dust and there was dead moths on the bed, he actually left the lodge and didn’t know where to put his head. We left him to do the cleaning, meaning we had to go find something to do for an hour so ended up having to eat out which came at extra cost to us, which we didn’t plan for as we had bought and taken all our food and drinks with us for the weekend. We came back to the lodge, there was a curtain put up and bed made (not convinced it had been changed), and another lie as there was no complimentary bottle of anything and we was then not spoken to again after that, he didn’t make sure everything was then ok with the room. My partner cut his hand on the hot tub as there was silver caps missing off the jets. It started to feel like an overpriced pontins with a hot tub, which was such a shame because I’d booked it for his birthday and was really excited about our very rare child free weekend away. We have stayed in many of these places before and this one was by far the worst one.

Light fitting outside was hanging off the wall and an electrical fault as an electrician, curtains wouldn't fully close because missing features. Overpriced for what I received. Left after a day.

Our room smelt of dog wee. The curtains were mouldy lights were broken and so were shelves. It wasn't the cleanest place and even after complaining we had to leave a day early because the staff couldn't accommodate us anywhere else unless we paid more money. A formal complaint has been put in as this was meant to be a special occasion celebrating our pregnancy and my partner proposing to me and instead it was ruined as we had no sleep. Had to leave all doors and windows open and even the staff said it was too awful yet couldn't move us.

Our TV didnt work properly. We called the staff line however nobody returned our call. Thankfully i brought my laptop. There was quite a bit of dust in some corners. When we first arrived the heat in the pod was like a sauna. Maybe have windows open or ac on for arrival of visitors. The pods can get extremely hot so i advise bringing a fan along

It feels very comfortable and homely. Very peaceful, quiet and secure. Driveway is a nice touch.

The images are misleading. It looks like you will have a lake view. Or at least partial. Little touches like hand soap in the bathroom would be good. There is a slight smell on the bathroom.

Had no running water for half a day! And it had not been cleaned prior to us arriving as we found a bag of rubbish under the sink and drinks marks on the sides and hair on the side in the bathroom.

Upon arrival, it was clear that the property did not match the images on Booking.com. When I raised this with staff, they claimed the website showed "different" pictures of the rooms. This is misleading and constitutes false advertising. Furthermore, my attempts to address these issues were ignored. On our arrival day, we were told no management was available until the following day. When we returned the next day, we were told management was in a meeting and someone would come to speak with us; however, no one ever did. Upon checking out, we found the reception unattended. After waiting 10 minutes, we left. The state of the lodge was appalling, as evidenced by the attached photographs. The unit had a strong, pervasive odor resembling a decomposing animal. Staff acknowledged the smell but attempted to mask it with cheap air freshener and advised us to open doors, which allowed moths and flies into the unit. The staff member told us to use the hot tub and they will get the lodge clean, when opening the cover The hot tub was visibly dirty and required 30 minutes of cleaning by staff before it could even be considered for use. Additionally, there were cobwebs throughout the property, the cutlery drawer was dirty, and there was visible dust and debris on the bedding. The unit is in a state of severe disrepair, including damaged walls, stained ceilings, and chipped surfaces. Other issues include damaged mirrors, peeling paint on handles, and a complete lack of privacy as only one curtain was provided while the other was missing; this made it impossible to fully close the window coverings, and even the single curtain provided was riddled with holes. This experience was distressing and entirely failed to provide the accommodation I paid for.

The view was nice

My partner and I recently stayed in Cabin 25 for our anniversary, paying £300 for what we expected to be a premium, relaxing getaway. While the seclusion of the cabin was nice and the front desk staff were friendly, the actual condition, cleanliness, and noise levels were completely unacceptable for the price. On top of the cabin issues, there was loud music blaring nearby from what sounded like a hen do, which completely ruined the peaceful retreat we were promised. The cabin itself was in a shocking state. The kitchen window was entirely missing its blind. Because of the layout, anyone outside could see straight from the kitchen to our bed, completely stripping us of our privacy. It also meant bright light flooded the room at dawn, ruining our plans for a rare, relaxing lay-in away from the kids. Furthermore, the main curtains were incredibly worn out and kept falling entirely off their hooks, forcing us to try and fix them ourselves. To make matters worse, the cabin hadn't been cleaned properly—we found long brown hairs left behind, which definitely didn't belong to either of us. When I complained, management admitted to these faults but only offered a 20% discount on a future booking. Frankly, a 20% discount is an insult—it feels more like a promotional offer to get us to spend more money than actual compensation for a ruined trip. I replied asking for a fair, partial refund instead, and the company has now completely ignored my emails for days. Absolutely shocking customer service and a total lack of respect for paying guests. Avoid this place if you are booking for a special occasion.

We know it’s a place where pets can stay but there was quite a strong lingering smell of wet dog from the moment we entered. There was also mould on the wall in the main bedroom by the bottom of the bed that was a little bit concerning. It may be something the hosts want to get looked at (We stayed in Cabin 29).

Our stay at Herons Lake Retreat was absolutely wonderful! The cabin itself is incredibly cozy and charming, and having a hot tub to unwind in each evening was a bonus. The setting is stunning! we loved taking walks around the lakes and soaking in the beautiful scenery, especially at night it's so romantic. The lodge was spotlessly clean and well-equipped with a Smart TV, comfortable sofas, and all the all kitchen essentials we needed. The staff were so welcoming and lovely, it was reassuring to know that help was just a phone call away, even out of hours, and they always attended to things promptly. We honestly couldn't fault a thing

Everything else about our stay was wonderful, though I do have a couple of minor points that might be helpful for future guests. The bathroom faucet was a bit stiff to operate, and the shower could have benefited from a quick wipe down upon arrival, a simple rinse sorted it out, though. Also, as the lodge is entirely wood-floored, I’d highly recommend packing a pair of indoor slippers to keep things extra cozy 😊

Staff were really friendly and helpful. POD was lovely and clean. The whole site was well maintained and a lovely area to walk around.
