Friendly staff
Nothing to complain about.
Friendly persons
Continental breakfast is really 'Too Simple' Bed was done by all the years of service. Not firm but very soft.
Evening meal was very good as was breakfast.
Rooms are very tired.
Lovely hotel. Full of history. Very big room, we stayed in no 1. Excellent evening meal and breakfast.
Nothing
Great location
Full of character, beautiful room, very friendly staff.
Breakfast was good but quite limited choice on the continental.
The location was ideal.
The room was OK but the bathroom was disgusting.
Location, breakfast was amazing and staff were fabulous
Staff and food really good
Not a lot
Staff was so friendly
Location
Convenient for our onward journey
Unfortunate that there was an event in the venue and several other places so hotel was noisy til very late
There was a few things . I know it’s a very old building , but the floor in the bedroom was like a wave ( not a little bit but a lot ) up and down and bouncing all over the place , which is understandable as a old building . I plugged the phone charger in and thought it strange it had only charged 4% in 30 mins ( mine is a fast charge and should go from 0 to 80% in 40 mins ) so I unplugged the charger and the plug socket on the wall ( a box ) came off at the bottom and the entire socket was coming off the wall . so I never used that socket again , the one next to that the plug would not go in so used the one the kettle was plugged into and that worked . The tv was unplugged when I went in and so plugged it in and the tv could only get bbc 1 . I looked at the antenna wire and the coax plug / wires going into it had been bent that many times it was loose in the actual plug , I undid it a little and re arranged it and then could get a few more cannels , and the tv bracket that holds the tv on the wall was coming out of the wall , there was more screw holes in the wall so im guessing the wall cannot take the weight of the tv and so slowly pulls out the wall ? And the curtain rail appeared to be coming off the wall on the right hand side . The photos I have put on you cant tell about the floor but it was really up and down but this is because it was a very old building . The “free” wifi didn’t work and no internet reception at all in that area , it was hard at times for them to get a reception to pay by card for a drink there .
The location was fabulous - centre of Buckden and a short drive to St Neots - just as we wanted. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.
Although the room was clean, comfortable and adequate, it was tired looking. The hall and staircase to the rooms were also tired and in need of a freshen up.
The room was comfortable, and it was nice to have a fan available during the warm weather. The staff were friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived, and the grounds were beautiful and added to the overall experience.
Poor breakfast experience. The breakfast was expensive for what it was, and the sausage tasted bad. Only one staff member was handling both tea service and breakfast preparation, causing delays. I also observed a staff member speaking rudely to a colleague, saying, "Let me finish," when discussing a list of breakfast items. I would expect better food quality and customer service for the price charged. Unfortunately, this affected the overall experience.
Friendly staff and nice room. Breakfast was nice but the service was a bit slow .
Our room was overlooking the outside drinking area so it was quite noisy .
Location was good
I know its a old building but you had mould in bathroom boxing around toilet missing TV not working due to no ariel
It was convenient and the breakfast was very nice. The staff were friendly and polite.
Parts of the dinner were cold when served, a significant proportion of the wine list was out of stock with only more expensive options available. The room was a bit tired and needs a bit of refurbishment.
Excellent food!!
Brilliant staff highly recommended
Everything was 💯
Staff are lovely. Very helpful. The decor and surroundings are pleasant
Wifi was not accessible in our room which brought my data up. Plug socket set up not good. Not able to plug in next to bed as round pin sockets. To plug in the kettle had to put it on the floor to reach a socket. Some water and at least 2 packets of biscuits would be nice not just one. Bit of a noisy room. The stairs were a nightmare to get up and down with suitcases. Would ask for ground floor if you have trouble negotiating stairs.
Location was convenient. Room was cool on a hot day. Quirky character due to age of building. Pub downstairs was convenient. Staff were friendly and helpful. Evening meal and breakfast with good. Wasn’t busy when we met, so not noisy.
Wifi in the room - there was none. Bigger glasses for water in the room.
good location, friendly staff
noisy on the Friday due to a DJ being on and the noise of people leaving. Due to the heat window had to be left open.
The staff were wonderful
Staff so friendly and helpful
Nothing!
We both had a "continental breakfast". There was enough options , we had no pastries, no yogurt and only one bowl of blueberries between both of us. The description of the "continental breakfast" that given to us when we checked in did mention that there would be a selection of pastries, yogurts and fruit. This is why we opted for it!! The frame of the window in our room (21) that overlooked the main road was damaged. The frame rattled throughout the night and we saw that someone had stuffed tissue into the framework to stop it from moving. Which did not work!!! The plumbing in the toilet made a deafening sound whenever the toilet was flushed and we heard the same noise from the room next door. In the shower/ toilet room there was a lot of mold and dust. The parking space at the front of the hotel was inadequate and close to a main road which made parking and unloading the car very precarious.
Bed was very comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly
The hot water in the shower was scalding hot
Location
Tired, in need of an uplift. Shower poor.
As it was our 10th wedding anniversary weekend I asked for help to make it special and a bottle of prosecco was provided for us. This was our second time staying here the first was many years ago nothing much has changed and thats good
There was a lack of staff so the ones that were left to run the place were struggling with everything. It was their hard work and devotion that kept the place going.
Nothing
Dirty unclean uggh
Everything - location perfect for us. Staff helpful. Dinner and breakfast were very good
service and dinner was very good. staff were all very pleasant and helpful. A good full English to start the day.
shower was of minimal use. stairways and passageways need smartening up, they give a very negative first experience.
All OK
The pizza was fab.
The rooms were nothing like the images shown for the deluxe double room. Our room was tired, stained carpet, bathroom needed love and attention- badly. Water was scalding, shower pressure crap. Marks on ceiling and walls. Windows filthy. Beyond basic! Not even a chair in the room! Honestly disappointing does not cut it!
Had a very pleasant pub night! As an elder solo female traveller I used to avoid, but wanted, to join a pub atmosphere. And finally I knew how it was, thanks to these friendly and joyful staff and customers. I had a cheerful small chat and got a delicious bite and a half pint of cider. Fabulous first experience!! The room was larger and more comfortable than expected, but, a little regret that I couldn't open the curtains because it was located on the ground floor just attached from the outside pavement. It was really in front of a bus stop. The town is incredibly beautiful calm and peaceful.
Of course it is a traditional building I understand it has few electric outlets, but I was puzzled to use an electric kettle. I had to unplug other to use it.
The food was good
The standard of the room and bathroom
Large room very clean good breakfast real good value bar staff very friendly
chefs attitude
The staff - amazingly helpful lady
Very tired , not clean ,
good breakfast! comfortable bed.
We had dinner in the dining room. Meals were very good staff friendly and helpful.
N/A
Room available on time and staff were helpful and cheerful. Parking, albeit limited, was available. Had breakfast which was good. A quirky old building with lots of character in a central location. Dinner was well cooked but a little too much 'pub grub'.
My twin bedded room, although cleaned and prepared, was tired and need of some attention. The shower room was particularly in need of repair and maintenance. Shower waste pipe leaked water onto the floor from leak under the shower tray and I had to run the hot water for 5 to 7 mins to get any hot water through the system. My room and stairway were in need repainting and some new carpets on the stairs and landings would brighten up the atmosphere.
Full-English breakfast was great - sausages sourced from local butcher are excellent. £12.95 very fair price for what they provide
I was only using the room to sleep as I was visiting a friend. It was adequate for my needs.
The room could have done with some sort of a chair and my biggest complaint was no wifi in my room. I couldn't connect while in my room, 2, so went down stairs to connect, as soon as I was in my room it had disappeared.
Staff were very friendly Room very basic , shower and hot water took along time to come through Flushing system very loud Only one plug socket Rooms not very secure Breakfast continental poor value
I had several requests that were all met without hesitation. Thankyou
As a business traveller, you may want to find alternative options
Small rooms, cold, not set up for business travellers, WiFi intermittent
Just what i needed for the night, clean bedding, quiet location
The room was very nice and the staff was very good, the landlady was very lovely
Didn't dislike anything
Lovely pub accommodation. The room was large, the beds comfy, everything was clean. And the full English breakfast was delicious.
Liked everything. Though beautiful roll top bath and no plug. A minor thing!
Lovely pub/restaurant in a great little village. Staff were very accommodating and the room was very clean and comfortable. Free parking available on site and very good price considering others near by. The room had some lovely original features and four poster bed.
The shower wasn’t great just needs a bigger head and the bathroom perhaps could do with a bit of TLC.. and although common would have been nice not to have to preorder breakfast when your having drinks the night before not knowing if you’d make it.
The hotel was in the perfect location for the purpose of our stay.
No hot water in the room so couldn’t have a shower. Stair carpet was very dirty. Staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing when we asked a question.
Stop here a few times. Nice people, the land lady is really nice. Character building, excellent breakfast.
Local for my needs
Narrow, winding staircase to carry suitcases upstairs. No comfortable seat, rickety foot stall. Shower head fell apart first night so couldn’t shower properly. Clearly a previous makeshift repair had failed miserably. I reported the problem and a new shower head and hose were installed the same day, but…..😠
Food in the restaurant/bar was excellent. Tea and coffee making in the room. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The bathroom was clean and the bed comfortable. The building is from 1492 - really historic place.
We asked for a quiet room and were given a lovely room but it was over the bar and very noisy. When I asked for another room we were given a room away from the bar, which was quiet. The standard of the room was not great... windows were dirty, curtains were very light, dressing table drawer was broken, the mirror on the dressing table was so low I had to kneel on the floor to use the hairdryer!
No hot water for shower, Room was poor , would not stay again
Sehr freundlich und grosses Zimmer
Etwas kalt und laut am Abend durch die Bar unten
The staff were very welcoming and the bed was very comfortable, I had 2 cracking nights sleep. The cooked breakfast was good and filling, sorted me out for the day.
There is a lack of parking, only at the front of the hotel which is actually the high street. The room I had, had minimal lighting, but this can be expected for a hotel of its age.
Clean and comfortable
The shower was poor and the water took ages to warm up but it’s an old property so not really surprising
Breakfast was good and served fresh and promptly. The room and environment were quiet overnight and the staff very friendly. Lovely view from the room of Buckden Towers.
There were a few odd smells in and around the room, probably from cleaning products but not all were pleasant. The sleeping area was fine in this regard.
The bed was comfortable and the location was good.
The whole place needs a deep clean, the room itself was fine but the carpets on the stairways and the outside courtyard need attention.
(Most of) the staff and location are lovely. They were super apologetic about the issues with our first room. The pizza on our 2nd night was nice - a half calzone half pizza which was fun. Would recommend that! Loads of parking too.
Staff - One member of the staff on the Friday night seemed to be drunk and kept bringing their friends down the corridor by our room to chat loudly despite being one of the members to help me get into the room so knew we were in there. Rooms - The first room had no electricity running due to a fuse being switched off earlier in the day. The staff member who helped get into the room just left me in there knowing there was no light(?!). I waited too long for the chef to come sort it so fixed it myself. We then discovered the mirror had fallen off the wall in the bathroom and smashed over the floor. We were moved to the room over the hall however someone had clearly been sick in there the night before as the carpet was still wet with cleaning solution and smelt. As we had our dog with us we only had the options of these two rooms so couldn't change again. Note if you're staying in the pet friendly rooms (19 and 20) you are right by the toilets of the pub so hear all the drunk chat and the Saturday night DJ
Very little
Room not clean. Previous occupants rubbish behind the bedside table. Damaged walls and ceiling. Hotel smelt of damp. Toilets being used for drug use by locals. Noise of music from bar intolerable and went on past midnight.
Comfy beds
The water pressure in the shower was very poor
Well placed for the A1. Quirky old hotel with lots of character.
We had someone's left over soap in the bathroom and several cobwebs in our room. There was no WIFI in the room and it took ages to get a good temp in the shower - red hot or frozen water for ages! I don't consider we are fussy but for the price, I expected better.
My room was clean and comfortable and relatively quiet apart from a gentle hum of the heating, which didn't bother me at all. The bed was comfortable with great pillows and the room was very cosy. The continental breakfast was good and served by a very pleasant waitress. However, I thought breakfast was included, but on arrival, I was told it wasn't. Make sure you check when booking.
I think the corridors could use a bit of work to make them more friendly. That was all really.

Charming old coaching inn
Not much car parking
Location was all
The noice from the bar and the disco was not mentioned when I booked the room The heating was on full blast. When i asked for the wifi when i checked in you would have thought i had asked for a gold bar!!
Good location for sailing
Needs some tlc
Unusual old building
Nothing
Very welcoming, great staff, nice large room
Shower was not very good, old property so very noisy creaking floor etc
I had booked sometime in advance and didn't know i would have to bring a dog with me The receptionist found a room change for me. I had also booked a meal for 20 people. It was a birthday celebration. The food was excellent
Not applicable
Food was great, will be back for a homemade pizza
Location.
It needs investment. Decor and fixings need an upgrade.
Convenient location in a nice village, just off the A1(M). Parking out front was easy to find . It's has been in business for centuries , so is not your standard hotel. Staff were all very pleasant , and efficient. We enjoyed the friendly and welcoming atmosphere ; our Fish and Chips , a nice breakfast... and good coffee. Rooms were warm and comfortable. Overall, a very pleasant one night stay on our travels , and it was good value at the price.
Not really a negative ; Our ground floor rooms were very good, as mentioned above. ; but the window is literally on the footpath . It was fine for one night early in the week .Most of the rooms are upstairs, which might be more suited for longer stays.
Location and staff
No hot water or heating until we were leaving
Friendly
Rooms basic
The building is lovely and the bar area is nice.
It really needs a bit of love shown to it. Everything apart from the bar area is very worn, dated and smells a little unclean. It needs some money and attention spent on it.
The room was huge, the bathroom looked modern. Nicely decorated
There was no hot water for a bath, the shower in the room didn’t work. The room felt dirty. And I’m glad I looked in the kettle before I filled it. It was disgusting. Stained brown inside and full of limescale. Wasn’t sure if I’d actually checked out as no staff in the premises at 8:30am when I left.
On the first night we stayed the pub stayed open until after 12.30 in the morning and it was very very noisy with very loud music. On the second night there was a 50th birthday party with extremely loud disco music until after midnight. We were not informed of either events when we booked otherwise we would have booked somewhere else. We didn’t get a decent sleep on either night. On the first morning there was no one to ask what was going to happen the following night. Very poor.
Everything.
