Provider-sourced guest reviews.
We had not been to the area before so it was good to visit. The decor in the room was plesant and complimentary.
We thought the room was not as clean as it should have been plenty of cobwebs and stained carpet. Also quite expensive without breakfast.
The overall appearance was not too bad. However the property outside was not maintained; whereby I had a bad fall.
I was housed outside of the main hotel in a little outbuilding. It was very noisey with bottles being emptied in bins at night and workman coming in in the early hours of the morning My room had a spider problem; several large spiders found in bed and shower.
It was close to the beach and to restaurants and a nice bar, so it was easy to manoeuvre around, you were never more than a 20 min walk from where you needed to be
Hotel quality was much poorer than the pics reflect. Thin walls meant we could hear screaming and shouting from a family in the next room. Rooms weren't in the hotel (like the pics reflect) but in outbuildings that felt temporary. I would give this hotel 2-3 stars.
Very nice experience. The view was beautiful, and the room was perfect for relaxing at the end of the summer holidays. However, unfortunately, the toilet had not been cleaned properly before our arrival. The dirtiness was very unpleasant and really affected our experience during our stay.
Good location.
Awful restaurant, had to send my main back and go out somewhere else for dinner. Bath leaked all over the bathroom floor and into the bar below.
Everything great. Fabulous shower and the bed was huge and comfortable. Little enclosed garden also a bonus for the dog.its the perfect place to stay for a trip to wonderful Mersea.
I would be inclined to tackle the carpet stain by the door.
The breakfast was good location ideal for walking dogs with your own private entrance
Could have been more info on the island with places to visit and boat trips etc in the room
The room was tucked away at the back of the property, with an outside area to sit, eat, drink. Fantastic rain shower!
The chef left at 6.30 on our last night, allegedly feeling unwell, just before we were about to order.
Location/ parking/ accessible room
All good
Amazing location with spectacular views. Fantastic staff who couldn't help any more - wonderful place for a short break
Sitting on the balcony with the view of the boats and estuary was very nice.
Room was quite small It was very hot due to the weather this summer (2026) but the only way to cool the room down was with the balcony door open so not safe as the balcony had public access. The restaurant stopped serving food at 8pm sharp Breakfast was not available until 9am The bar did not serve real ale, only fizzy keg beers
Lovely location and views.
It was good. But could have been wonderful. We ordered some lunch in the pub / restaurant, and the starters and main courses arrived together. When we questioned it the lady said “at busy times we can’t cope with doing things separately”! So our fish and chips got cold while we hurried our prawn cocktail starters. The room is described as a “King Room with Balcony” - and although the bed is clearly described as a Double, I am not sure what makes it a “King”?? Although the room had an amazing view across the river and a “balcony”, it was a shared balcony / walkway. So there was no privacy. This should be made clearer in the listing. All it would take is to partition off each segment with a small trellis / fence / barrier. Even put a door in it if you need to allow access in an emergency. Such a small inexpensive change would make the rooms feel so much more special and worth the money. Finally, just a small thing but sends a huge message. All of the sauce bottles in the restaurant only had 1cm of sauce in them. I can understand this if you get a high theft rate, but the theme continued in the bedroom where there was only 1cm of hand wash and hand lotion in the sink dispenser. It made me feel like I wasn’t to be trusted, even though I’d paid £175+ for the privilege!! Such a shame.
Location
Would have liked the option of an earlier breakfast
Great location overlooking the sea. Bed was comfortable and room was very nice.
Our room was exceptionally hot due to the heatwave but there were no fans available
Lovely large room and bathroom. Great views.
Frost welcome as we were travelling with our four legged friend and included this in the booking details. We were welcomed with a “ your the second guests to turn up today having booked the wrong room” we were then told to book a garden room in future and the housekeepers will have to do extra cleaning.
Nice room, went for the upgrade with the balcony
No breakfast
Das Hotel ist extrem hundefreundlich, die Lage am Meer schön, alles unkompliziert, das Essen war prima.

Loved the fact that we had a balcony overlooking the sea. We took drinks up and sat on the balcony for a couple of hours watching the World go by. It was lovely that they had a singer on Sunday afternoon.
The double room was a little on the small size, but the balcony was a great addition.
Great location on the island and the twin beds were super comfortable and nicely spaced apart.
Nothing
Clean and the location
We paid £195 for the night and I thought that was a lot as it didn’t include breakfast
We enjoyed our stay, staff were polite and we will be staying again at some point
The staff at The Victory were really welcoming and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. the bed was really comfortable which is great for me us as we both have insomnia and back trouble - Slept like a log! Thursday evening live music was amazing. We had great fun. The location is excellent if you want to get away from the noise of the city (which we did) and just relax near this quiet beachfront. I would advise to wrap up warm in the cooler months as the sea breeze can be quite chilly. A few lovely fresh seafood places around and just a 20 minute walk into West Mersea for more cafes and quirky shops and galleries.
My husband is an early riser so the only reason we didn't have breakfast is because 8.30 was a little late for him so we went down the road. However the menu looked great.
The location and just right
I wished that the breakfast would be earlier
Good
Weather
Fantastic location. The food was excellent and the staff were helpful
The rooms are a bit expensive but the premium is for the location.
Location. Very nice clean rooms and dog friendly. Karen very friendly and helpful.
Nothing.
Locatipn and staff
Breakfadt time not consistent with notes in the room
Staff very friendly and welcoming couldn't fault them.
Room wasn't very clean. They did kindly move us but the second room was only slightly better.
Sea View
Even though breakfast is advertised, none is served. Really poor and disappointing. Notes in the room sat it is served 08:30-10:30, but noone was around and doors were locked.
We have stayed here before, and decided to return, even though we were 30 miles away from our final destination. Staff are friendly and helpful. There was a great view from the room.

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff were exceptional.
Just one little thing: the room wasn't cleaned on our full day there. But maybe that was because it was Sunday? We didn't really mind.
Breakfast excellent
Staff were lovely. I have a disability and when I phoned to book they were great at taking us through the options, and when we got there the accomodation recommended was perfect for me, and everyone was really lovely.
All went well

Gem - The Victory, Mersea, is what we would say. Sea views and array of boats was the view from the restaurant, serving the most, delicious food. The accommodation was immaculate and well stocked for a B & B. Staff were extremely friendly, professional, Very knowledgeable of the island and they looked happy in their jobs, which we liked too. The We would Highly recommend, Mersea Island. We could not ask for more from The Victory, Mersea - Gem
Nothing
Breakfast was amazing, plentiful and served hot and fresh...we had a front room which was beautifully clean and had a great view over the boatyard and to the sea....
Nothing
BALCONY WAS MARVELLOUS.
BAR WOULD HAVE STAYED OPEN PAST 8:30
Ideal location to visit our friends on Mersea
Nothing
Not very inviting not very clean , it looked like a converted garage at the back of a pub car park
Breakfast varied. First morning sausages very under done. Second morning very good breakfast. Room OK but could have had a comfy chair or 2.
Good location on sea front.
Very basic, bed to small, room located in a yard at the back of the property next to the car park ,bins .
Staff so friendly and helpful . Great location and breakfast
Nothing
Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was very nice. Accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Will definitely recommend and stay again.
Absolutely perfect stay! The staff couldn't have been kinder, they even let us check in early. The room was totally spotless, the view from the room was stunning, it was lovely and warm inside, the shower was excellent and a great size, the little touch of some biscuits and drinks were great. Wonderful, will happily stay again.
literally nothing!
Very clean lovely staff excellent location
Room was exactly what you want
My room was very clean and comfortable. The food was amazing and Karen was very friendly and very helpful, as were the other staff members.
Absolutely nothing to complain about, really. My only issue was the motion sensor light in the bathroom that turned the light off whilst I was on the toilet. Also, the shower is one of those types that has just the high outlet whereas I prefer a hose but that's my personal preference.
Great room ( upgraded 😀) really nice staff and great location
Nothing
We had the room with a great view of the water and a lovely big bath, will definitely return
Kitchen closes quite early
Quiet clean room great location dog friendly . Lovely staff .
Friendly and helpful staff, great location and well equipped room
All good
The room was well equipped, beds were very comfortable, everything was very clean. The staff were friendly and welcoming at both check in and out. Mersea Island is a beautiful place to visit and this is very well situated for anyone wanting to explore.
I think this was on the pricier side for a nightly rate compared to similar places we have stayed. Shower pressure was slightly disappointing, but the water was a good temperature and it was easy to use.
The room was full of spiders, 8 in total although most were quite small. Cobwebs and dust everywhere, in particular under the bed, between the headboard and the wall, behind the TV and around the ceiling edges. The carpet is stained and dirty. A dog in the next room which barked between 11 and 11:30 as we were trying to go to sleep.
Staff were so helpful and accommodating
Location
The location was brilliant
Very noisy in the bar and restaurant and service was very slow
Staff exceptionally friendly. Breakfast excellent and evening meal very good.
Closes at 9pm on a Saturday.
Excellent room, very clean and tidy. We enjoyed our stay very much. Great breakfast too. Lovely location too
Not much not to like. Very hard to find fault
Lovely setting - overlooking the water
The rooms were really nice. Staff were lovely.
Downstairs wasn't very welcoming and could have done with some more comfy seating. Also, our rooms weren't cleaned during our stay, which was disappointing.
Very small room outside of the pub(likened it to a shed) No spare bedding only one pillow each, there was one blanket and as we had single beds not very helpful The room was not serviced, apparently you have to let them know to do this, but we were not informed of this when we checked in. No literature in the room we found the WiFi code scribbled on a piece of paper in a drawer
Really lovey staff, let us check in early so we could get ready for a wedding and couldn’t have been more helpful.
Clean, comfortable and near the sea
The bedroom was spacious and spotlessly clean
We weren’t told we couldn’t get in after 10.15pm through the front, had to find a set of stairs at the back
Our Room was outside the main building but had a small courtyard and table and chairs, the room itself was excellent with everything you needed, the breakfast was very good as was the evening meal we had. Staff were very good as well.
Nothing
Lovely location, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast, courteous and helpful staff
Great position, lovely staff , good breakfast
nothing
Great location, overlooking the harbour which was beautiful, all the staff there were all really friendly
Lovely room and view, great breakfast!
Nothing!
The staff were very friendly and so accommodating! My room was cosy and clean and the views from the balcony were lovely!
The location is very good, but the welcoming staff is great! Cameron dealt with me upon our (mum and i) arrival and couldn't do enough to make us feel truly welcome. We went on to be met with the same courteous and ŵonderful attention from each and all members of The Victory staff. Thank you all so much, from mum and me. X
Perhaps the door to the bathroom kept sticking, and the WiFi dropping out a few times, but really, all was good.
The location was great
The rooms and balcony could have been cleaner the bathroom had lots of little black flies
You cannot beat the location on the waterfront and near the action for the regatta.
Everything.
Nothing it was all good.
The rooms were nice and clean, good location.
In the description it said private garden, which I thought would be good with the dogs, though it was a shared garden, with no lock on the gate and the dogs could get under the gate! Not ideal!
Location to beach etc
Nothing
Great location, very friendly and accommodating staff.
The whole of the property was lovely, well looked after and spotless!
Excellent breakfast, food very well presented, lovely quantity and wonderful staff. Room very spacious and, plenty of cupboard space in bathroom. Location - absolutely wonderful couldn't find better.
What didn't I like - The step to the property was so high, we had to go out and purchase a step stool to gain entry. I cannot understand why, when the apartment next door was just as high, a step had been fitted yet this apartment required a ladder to gain entry. Before we could get into the apartment we had to first master the lock, that could take up to 5minutes to open. On one occasion we had to call the staff for help to open the door.
