Lijiang Gui Yuan Tian Ju Guesthouse

I want to highlight that the owner's kindness and assistance is the real highlight of our trip. The place itself is a very authentic old Chinese house in an amazing location. The accommodation is tucked away in a quiet area, with quick access to main areas of ancient town. On our second day there was unexpected work at the neighbouring property. It was very loud. The owner upgraded our room to be away from the noise. This happened without us asking. He was very considerate and kind, provided us with advice on how to access the sites we would like to visit. There was washing machine and dryer, which is great for us as a family of five. I was able to keep up with my laundry. Location 10/10 Service 10/10 However, note that the property is outdated and needs a deep clean and renovation. It is an old house. The bedding, sink, toilet and towels were very clean. However the bathrooms were outdated and needed deep clean.

We arrived in the evening after an 11-hour journey from Guilin by train to Guilin-Lijiang. We have a nice room but we have to go to this second-floor room by the old traditional wooden stairs which I was worried my husband couldn't manage it since he is old. To my surprise the room was comfortable, clean and maintained very well, The decoration is an Ancient Chinese room with beams etc. The warm water in the bathroom and wash basin run excellent. It was winter and this is very nice with a modern shower inside this Ancient look. The location inside Goucheng Ancient town but rather far to reach the main road, about 10 minutes walk to this Ancient town since there is the car cannot come to this Ancient town, the transport using a small vehicle as a trolley to carry the suitcases while we walked following this carriage. The hotel room is inside a courtyard of a Chinese-style house with a garden. Some rooms are upstairs with separate wooden stairs.

I do not like the wooden staircase which is small, old and only one person can climb. At night is terrible for us it does look stable We arrived in the evening after 11 hour's journey by train, we also had to find a taxi with a language barrier at the station as to how to find the taxi stand, Thw taxi dropped us in front of InterContinental as we were directed to be pick up. To our surprise, we were picked up by the hotel staff He brought a traditional vehicle for our suitcases. We had to walk for 10 minutes in these dark alleys inside the Ancient town. The worst was we were informed that we had booked 2 double rooms instead of one double room for the same date by booking com. This argument made the night more miserable since we were tired after this long journey. I could not confront booking.com, our internet with Google could not be reached in this country, confirming our booking with Booking.com. The staff was very nice, to inform their management, as they had a long conversation with the management on the phone Then they decided to have the other room with no-show guests and let us have only one room, Fortunately, my daughter in Shanghai confirmed with them. Booking.com had cancelled the other room with a statement my card was invalid. That was a terrible statement for me.

The owner were very friendly and introduced good food places and places of interests before we even asked. The place was in the centre of Lijiang Old Town and was thus very accessible everywhere. They even picked us up and brought us to the guesthouse.

Locate in a small valley in the old town which is nice and quite. Close to shops and easy to get to bus and train station.

Bathroom and toilet are very dark. Not enough hanger for towels.

Amazing location and great staff. The staff was so nice, everyone was very helpful, made us tea and explained to us how the city map worked and where to go! The room was super comfortable and clean! One of the best places I stayed so far!

The owner collected us to help us with our bags as no cars can go in the old town. They shared their WeChat and helped us find railway station etc

Nice, little hotel with excellent ambience within Lijiang Ancient Town. Since it is 10 min walking distance from the main road, the free tricycle luggage transfer is really appreciated as it saves rolling luggages across the stone pathway. It is strategically located within walking distance to key attractions. There are restaurants to cater to different budget within walking distance. Staff is helpful and friendly.

Nothing significant except the lack of clothes hangers in the bathroom.

Location was good. Very near to old town entrance. They help us to carry our luggage to the inn. They provide laundry and dryer service for free which is a bonus. The bed was heated and warm. They also let us check in early morning as our train arrived early.

The staffs were really helpful and kind. The location is great.

Nil.

The staff was helpful, professional and organized. The location was in a further part of the old town, just a few steps away from the main road in the quiet area. The room felt renovated and the decoration was traditional. It was clean and comfortable. The flowers in the garden were lovely.

It went all well.

I like how aesthetic the place, the room were really big, the interior look very classic chinese vibe, worth it to stay for vacation. The area also near to the south gate of Lijiang Old City

None, i like all about the place.

Very quiet location and yet near to the bustling old town

In general, room is too cold.

Excellent location, great atmosphere, kind and helpful staff !

The guesthouse is located in back alley so very quiet area but still walking distance to the main plaza of the old town. Many restaurants around. Especially, only 5 minutes walk to the primary school, there is local restaurant opens from 5 am that serves many breakfast options.

The first night the heater didn't work properly so we slept in the cold.. the bed mattress was too hard for my liking. A tiny inconvenience of very narrow stairs for the rooms that are on the first floor. So if you are elderly then best to book and request ground floor. No English speaking staffs so you need good access to Google translate to communicate. The internet access is very limited on 4G or wifi..

The position of the hotel is very good. In the center of the old town but not directly on the mainstreet, so it’s silent. And the staff were extremely friendly. They helped me a lot. The staff phoned my taxi staff for me and explained to them where I wanted to go. The hotel staff rescued me from awkward situations. I am very grateful to them!

Very helpful and they helped us a lot in translating Chinese to english while booking a group tour!

Lovely traditional place which made us feel like we have been transported back to old times but with modern facilities. Location is within Lijiang old city, hence really convenient. Best of all is the service. The place is managed by 2 young men who were really helpful & caring, from helping us keep our laundry after it was done in the dryer, to expressing concern that I may catch a cold as I was not wearing a jacket at night, to helping my husband find his way back when he got lost. Kudos to them!

Not a negative point about the property but just a note that it can be a bit of a maze finding the place as we got lost after exploring walking the old city. Do take note of landmarks to find your way back!

Very good location and very nice staff.

Persistent cigarettes smell in front of our rooms.

Staff very friendly. He explain everything about Old Town and suggest us where to go. Also take and sent over our bags. Thank you ♥️

All good. Strategic place!

Everything almost perfect. I want to highlight the attributes of Miss Chu and her work mates for their kindness with me every time. Perfect English spoken. It was a pleasure spending a few days at Babylon Spa hotel. Very proud and grateful with reception crew. I'll be back sooner than later. 100% recommended!!

Staff were extremely helpful and polite. Location was ideal as it was in the ancient town itself.

Communication barrier, mainly our fault as only Chinese (Mandarin) spoken.

The owner John was brilliant - gave us such good tips for our trip. The room was amazing, great aircon and heating and comfy bed. Highly recommend! Great value for money

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel in the heart of Lijiang, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Nestled within the stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lijiang Old Town, this hotel perfectly combines traditional Naxi architecture with modern luxury, offering a truly unique stay. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendly and attentive staff, who immediately made me feel at home. The check-in process was seamless, and I was served a refreshing cup of local tea while I waited—a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the rest of my stay. The staff's warm hospitality continued throughout my visit, and they were always eager to help with recommendations and reservations. The room was a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. With beautifully carved wooden furniture, plush bedding, and a spacious layout, it offered a serene retreat after a day of exploring. The attention to detail was evident. The hotel's location is unbeatable. Situated right in Lijiang Old Town, I could step out and immediately find myself wandering the charming cobblestone streets, lined with vibrant shops, tea houses, and local eateries. Despite its central location, the hotel maintained a tranquil atmosphere—an oasis amidst the bustling town.

Lovely stay and awesome manager/owner

Spacious room, comfy bed, friendly and helpful host, location and the local tea served by the host.

CLEAN AND LOCATED IN ANCIENT CITY WHICH HAS ATMOSPHERE

Excellent host who catered to all our needs. Central location within the old town. Having a washing and dryer facilties are a bonus for us which are travelling inter-city. Clean and spacious bedrooms.

The shower takes a while to warm up.

I cannot fault this place. It has to be the mosst comfortable bed I had traveliing around Asia. The manager was super helpful. The room was clean and well equipped. It is situated in the old town - a few steps away from where you want to be.

This is not a dislike - just a bit of information. The hotel is within the pedestrian area - as would any other hotell be within the old town. You need to call the hotel - or get the taxi to call the hotel - on arrival and they will meet you and transport your luggage. Like I said - not a negative comment - but just for people to understand, The system works well

Really clean, comfortable and big room. Staff very friendly and helpful. Free laundry facilities were great. The location was perfect, easy to find and in a quiet part of the old city. There wasn't anything to change or improve!

Lovely old house with wooden carvings, front door, several court yards surrounded by 2 floors of rooms. Quiet but central in ancient city - pickup from main street to show way to hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Free water bottles.

Nicely located in old town. Hotel staff was helpful in fetching our luggage from the point of meeting where taxi had to drop us off. We could use the laundry facility for free.

It took us an hour before we could have a car taking us from Lijiang train station to hotel due to the high tourist season. We had warned the hotel the day before our arrival of the long wait at Dali station a few days before, but when we contacted the hotel to help us find a taxi upon arrival in Lijiang, they told us we are in the queue with more than 80 people before us and there is nothing else they could do. We patiently waited. When we asked hotel whether they could help us reserve a car for the day to visit various sites, we were flatly informed that reserving car is not part of their service, and we should check out relevant websites. This is a stark different from our experience in Dali where the hotel owner not only gave us recommendation on where to go, but also used his contact to find us transfer and private car hire.

Charming authentic guest house. Located down one of many stone alleyways in lijiang old town. Beds were comfy and clean, bathroom big and clean. Staff very helpful.

Fridges in room didn't work well or at all. Not a big problem, I used the staff fridge instead!

nothing

They don't accept credit card only cash

Everything excellent. Owner very helpful. Easy to communicate because the lady owner speak very fluent in English.

WOW! The hospitality from the hosts of this guesthouse exceeded my expectations. They are so warm and welcoming! Reviewing this about a week after my stay and I still remember how they brought an entire bicycle trolley to pick us up (& drop us off) at the entrance of Lijiang old town. And since we are not following group tours to jade snow mountain, the host (Nana) taught us where to buy admission tickets and gave us tips on getting cheaper ones 🙌🏻 The guesthouse is only a 5 - 10 minutes walk away from the Old Town but it is still hidden enough for you to get a peaceful and quiet rest after a whole day of exploring around Lijiang. Bonus: the small garden at the front also makes the guesthouse feel so magical at night. The washing machine and dryer are also provided for free! So not only did we get a good stay, we also left with fresh smelling clothes! Overall, we really recommend this guesthouse and will definitely book this place again next time!

I love everything. The service was beyond exceptional. Pre travel: the owner was kind and update me the weather there and what to expect/bring. She even help me to find driver/how tobuy ticket to yulong mountain and help me almost everything. Without her, my trip will be miserable❤️ we having conversation in english, she was fluent and well verse in english. During Travel: the properties was beautiful with garden. It was so clean and imagine my surprise they clean and change the sheet everyday! Unlimited mineral water and even tea. They even give us free 02 tank to bring to yulong moutain. They will fetch u from the intercontinental and help u bring all bag to hotel(as in lijiang ancient city not allowed car go in). The walk is about plus minus 8min while us enjoying the view🫶🏻. Reached hotel and was served tea(delicious as prepared infront of u). After payment they send yr bag in the room and even brief us how to go to place, supply lijiang ancient maps and told us which place are nice to go and famous. As they afraid we will lose in the middle of this beautiful city, they provide us link so we can track back the hotel. Post travel: we wash n dry all our clothes they before heading back. Help us to send our bag again (during raining, pity him) but he insist to sent us and help us to find taxi as that time we r running out of time and no didi available. Full impression: i had been travel many places and the service that provided here are beyond than imagination. I feel welcome and feel home. This are not just hotel but HOME. I wish both of u abundant luck😇 will come back again there around may and for sure will choose them again. Guys no need to see other hotel, come here and experience beautiful lijiang with beautiful and kind people❤️❤️

Nothingggggg

This property did not provide breakfast. But the location was walking distance to all stores. Very convenient! The owner of the hotel were very kind and always available to help, including transportation, weather, resturants, cultural events ...

Fantastic location, very friendly staff, excellent facility!

Great location, good value for money! Nala was extremely helpful!!

Old style, quiet with clean and comfort

Owners are very welcoming (they offered some tea when we arrived) and helpful. They speak good English. Rooms have all the facilities and are very clean.

Need help for location Probably not related but we couldn’t sleep well during our stay.

The host was super friendly, they really want to make your holiday as comfortable as possible. Also the bed was very comfortable and location was super nice, in a quiet street. Free water on the go, I highly recommend this place!

Nothing at all!

The service and quality of the accommodation is simply perfect, and the prices is so affordable! The host came to fetch me when I arrived, and carried all my luggage for me to the property. The room is huge with comfortable bed, the shower pressure is strong and perfect too. It is located right in the middle of the ancient town, near to everywhere! The host even treated the guest to tea upon arrival!

Everything is perfect!

The owner is very nice, they support us all the time for the very heavy luggage, recommend us for a good local tour and restaurants. We had a very exciting conversation on a rainy day. The facility is all famous and high quality brands with classic design, it made us feel warm when we were here.

Nothing.

Both owners were really warm and friendly, they came to the gate to fetch me and transported my luggage to the guesthouse because the pavement in old town is bumpy. Throughout my stay, I was also able to connect with Nala and I had an amazing time chatting with her every day. It is truly a privilege to be greeted with such warmth and kindness! I’m blessed to have met them and to have had such an unforgettable experience. Thank you for the amazing stay and I hope we meet again! ❤️

The Staff Nara was very helpful and kind. She is the jewel of the hostel. Boss pls give her a raised!!

Nice service and location. Room was clean and wonderful

The host (husband & wife) was very helpful. They helped us to carry our luggage outside the Lijiang Oldtown during our check in/out since any taxi are not allowed to go inside. They also provide us map & give so many information. Thank you too for letting us lend your iron within our stay.

Nothing

Located in the old town of Lijiang. It's a little hard to find. The staff are lovely, the service is very good, and they can communicate in English.

If you have luggage. You should have a staff member pick you up.Walk to the accommodation about 500-600m. The roads in the old town are rough.

We had a really wonderful trip in Lijiang , the guesthouse manage by a couple they are so kind and helpful with everything , bed was so comfortable, local is on the relax street but not so far from center of old town by walking like 10 minutes .

-

Very clean room. Excellent location and friendly staff. Offered luggages pickup and drop off to Gucheng (gate) which was very helpful.

Owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. Excellent location off the main street, very quiet. Spacious room with balcony. We recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Lijiang.

Staff is very kind!! i love the place..

nothing

Bed was large and comfy, room was clean, shower was hot. Staff was amazing, so helpful especially when I ask lots of questions. Great location, very good tea.

The location in a quiet alley in the old town is perfect. There are flowers everywhere and the guesthouse looks so beautiful. You are in a different World, almost like in a movie. The staff is very kind and helpfull. They came to meet is and sent is of again early in the morning to catch a train to Dali so we did not had to carry our luggage in the old town and would not get lost. Is was very easy and friendly communicating with the staff.

It was perfect

The surroundings, staff, and location throughout my stay. According to what I gather, a manager is really nice, he greets us warmly , making hot tea as a welcome drink and he walks to take us from the old town entrance point to the hotel.

Our room is on the second floor. It is not good to bring luggage up and down by using stairs. Anyway, it's acceptable for us since it's a traditional place. Just sharing this info with others.

Boss / staffs are nice and friendly. Free use kitchen, washing machine and dryer. Get to sleep well at night as the place is a little bit away from the hustle and bustle. They can help you arrange for a day tour too. Loved the food, interesting places and scenery at the old town. Thank you for helping me out when I was having trouble. Will come again next time. Cheers!

Nothing

Beautiful hotel in the middle of Lijiang's old town. The rooms are clean and quiet. The hotel is in a little side street such that you don't get any street noise at night. We really liked the property and highly recommend it to anyone!

Everything was great!

I loved this place! Since I have been travelling to China this is the best place I have slept in so far. The Guesthouse is managed by husband and wife, they are both super nice and helpful. They came to pick me up at the taxi and carried my luggages because you can not access the Guesthouse by taxi as it is inside Lijiang historical center, which it is perfect location to visit Lijiang ancient city. Also I asked to Cook a fresh soup for my little daughter and they said yes and also they washed my clothes for free and provided me with free bottles of water. Nala also gave me some advises about restaurants and what to visit in the city and how to move around, she was very sweet and kind. Also the room was very clean with a comfortable bed, airconditionair hot/cold and a TV. The window view faced some typical chinese rooftops that I loved and I took very nice pictures. In sintesys Lijiang is a precious place to visit in China and this Guesthouse is definately the best place to stay at. Good quality/price rate! Thank you for everything 😘❣️

I would have loved also to find something for breakfast in the morning.. but as the most places in China the breakfast is not provided so I had to go and buy at supermarket my own breakfast. But it is ok, not a big deal actually :)

Everything. The guesthouse is extremely clean. The owner is super helpful and give all information that I need. I got an upgrade to a very beautiful suite room.

Really no complaint

Excellent position, right in the center of Ancient Town, plus it's in a side alley, so no noise at night from the street. Room was very large and comfortable, big plus for the bath tub in the middle, very pleasant. Staff attentive and helpful, with English spoken and good suggestions for restaurants. The place is overall beautiful and relaxing, with quiet and peaceful common areas. Washing machine available for guests.

It's in a very quiet and peaceful position, but it's not sound proof: if other guests come home late or leave early and have little care for other guests sleeping, you will hear them. Had some difficult in finding the correct switches for some of the lights, there is some very confusing wiring. We managed to learn most of it by the end, anyway.

We like so much. For those who dream to stay in oldest day.. this is a place. The guy very responsive while we are asking question. Fetch me at roadside. Its so incredible.. Tell us which the best tea in lijiang.

None

Good location. Nice and clean accommodation. Great staff. Would recommend.

The location of the guesthouse is ideal as it is located within the Lijiang Ancient Town with shops right outside the doorstep. It is also only a 10 mins walk to the main road which is important since vehicle cannot enter the ancient town. The owners were extremely helpful and approachable. They offered to send our luggage to the main road since the uneven road makes it very difficult for us to pull the luggages. Love the architecture and environment. This place really transport you back to experience the old days.

NIL

The guesthouse is really nice with flexible cancelation policy. The room is big and comfort. I even got the free oxygen bottle from the desktop. The atmosphere is free and friendly.

It is located inside the old Town, which might be a bit inconvenient to move your suitcase. But the guesthouse will bring your luggage at your arrival and departure.

Staff Room Location

The location was great, it was within reasonable walking distance to the old town and also where the bus and taxi pickup/drop off locations. The staff was nice and transported our luggage to save our wheels from the aggressive stones in old town. The room was cleaned everyday, which was a plus for us since that wasn’t always the case when we were traveling in Yunnan.

We believe booked the 2 bedroom 1 bathroom suite. Our group had 4 people and it was small and crammed for that many people. It is was just 2 travelers that wanted separate sleeping spaces, it would have been fine. We saw a couple of the single bed rooms and they looked a lot more spacious, so perhaps that would have been better if it was just myself and my wife. The staff is very friendly, but English is a challenge, so I recommend using small words or a translation app to communicate if nobody in your group can speak Mandarin. The walls are also very thin, so hope that you have quiet neighbors.

The location of the guesthouse is a little away from the main road. It is not possible to pull your luggage to where the guesthouse is located within the Ancient town of Lijiang. However, if arrangement is made in advance, the staff will assist you to bring the luggage in and out of the guesthouse in the Ancient city. Much accolades must be said of the staff because they made great effort to recover and return a lost item in our room to another city more than a hundred km away.

It would be better if management could pay a little more attention to the facade and garden to make the atmosphere more inviting to the guests.

Comfortable and modern rooms, beautiful hotel. The staff was great and helpful. They took the time to help us looking for the transport to Tiger leaping gorge and buying the tickets, we really appreciated it. Good location

No restaurant or breakfast option

Location

Perfect location. In old town, just tucked away from the hustle-bustle. Super value for money. Very attentive staff. Pleasant rooms. Nice hot showers. Even has a washing machine and dryer for free usage.

Nothing. Thomas picked us up from the taxi drop off and walked us to the hotel. It was great absorbing the atmosphere of the pedestrian street. Felt like going back in time.

Very charming property, well located in a quiet street and really close to the heart of the old town. Staff is friendly and helpful. They will try their best to recommend the best places so feel free to ask your questions. They can speak English.

Thomas the manager is EXCEPTIONAL. We have travelled many countries. He is probably one of the kindest and most helpful (maybe even BEST) inn manager. Location and value is excellent.

Centrally located but quiet, helpful English-speaking staff (the *only* place in China where I could actually communicate in English rather than using a translation app!). Very quick WeChat responses to questions. Would definitely recommend (or return myself).

Hotel located inside old town. Traditional building but new interiors and good toilet facilities. English speaking front desk. Near everything, food, attractions, traditional markets and shopping both inside and outside of the old town. All walking distance and near bus station to Jade Dragon Mountain tourist entrance.

No cars or taxi allowed. Have to call hotel staff to meet at entrance of South Gate with trolley for luggage transport and guide to hotel. Lijiang have many small unname lanes. Not a big hassle.

Beautiful property full of character in the centre of the car-free old town. The owners are very helpful and charming. The rooms comfortable and have everything you need. Laundry facilities.

Not a dislike but you have walk around seven minute walk from the car drop off. They do help you with the luggage on a cargo bike.

Owner help to carry the luggage
