Nothing
Tired, dirty, poor state of repair. Charged £10 for early checkin 1 hour before even though the room was ready. Went to room and although four poster premium room not of a premium standard. Sat on bed and uncomfortable and creaked and room equally tired and unclean. Decided not to stay and checked out as so bad. Worst hotel we have attempted to stay in. An extortionate rate for the calibre of property. Lost money for our stay but would not have been comfortable staying in room allocated.
It was good for one night stay.
It is difficult to get cabs into Diss and nearby
wifi tv signal breakfast value breakfast options
Historic building and decor. Comfortable bedroom.
No staff apparently at first so didn't know what the set up was. Cooked breakfast good. Cereal choice poor only cocopops and rice Krispies. No fruit, limited yoghurt. Coffee machine looked broken but apparently working just had no milk.
The ambience and friendliness of staff
Nothing..
Pretty room. Local. Easy. Bit gutted to be in the stables rather than the hotel. Although sure that olace is haunted !;🤣
Nobody to check in. Bar not open. Room was uncomfortably hot. Bed not particularly comfortable.(2 singles together?)
The original historic house and location
The place was rather deserted, short of staff as well. Price for what you get did not make us enthousiast; breakfast and restaurant rather overpriced
Ambience of an historic building. The food was very good I have to say.
A few too many cobwebs around my room.
suitable location for the wedding we attended
the hotel is looking very shabby and is under staffed
Bedroom was nice, comfortable and staff were fantastic. In fact the staff we interacted with were all fantastic.
Bathroom old and tiered, with cheep toilet seat.
This ancient building is full of character and atmosphere. The staff were willing and helpful. Good sized room on the top floor. Car parking excellent (and necessary!)
Minimal staffing. Menu not particularly exciting. Room not fully serviced on the middle day of the stay
Not expecting to see and hear evidence of rats in my bedroom
Rats in the bedroom
Lovely location. Rooms and communal areas were nice
Very poor service in the restaurant. Wrong food brought twice. Staff all seemed inexperienced and lacking basic hospitality skills and there didnt appear to be a manager on site at all. WiFi not working in thr room which meant the TV was not usable.
We stayed in the Sundial room and appreciated its many quirks but the bathroom was tired and little things like no teaspoons on the teatray were annoying. On the plus side there was a mini fridge; and the room was light. I also booked a twin room for my daughter. Room 21 in the courtyard was dark and full of spiders. Not pleasant at all. Room 9, another double that I booked for my son was ok but the teatray was lacking bottles of water and the tapwater wasn't suitable for drinking. Breakfast on the Saturday morning was chaotic. There was one girl serving in a busy restaurant. Juice, bread for toast , cups, plates and cutlery were lacking; and the service was desperately slow. It was a bit quicker on the Sunday probably as it wasn't quite as busy. The location of the hotel is close to Diss but you need a car to stay here. Overall value for money is very disappointing.
One of the rooms I booked was full of spiders. Breakfast was chaotic. No bottles of water provided despite the tapwater being unsuitable to drink.
Nice location
Good breakfast but ran low on cereal and juice etc
Pleasant helpful staff. Clean and comfortable facilities
Breakfast the next morning was a bit of a fiasco. We were asking for tea as the urn ran out, cutlery. Sauce we had asked for, and unfortunately numerous other things we heard other people requesting. Have to say, maybe this was a one off as our last stay was perfect in every way
Lovely location easy to park.great food nice polite service would definitely recommend to anyone the interior of the hotel is stunning for anyone into historical woodworking.the food was excellent.
Not having a privacy curtain in the window which was open to the housing on the other side of the road.
Beautiful characterful building, welcoming accomodating staff. Lovely spacious room with ensuite. Peaceful area.
We mainly loved our stay. It was a very hot night when we stayed, we were provided with a tower fan but still hot. Key was tricky to use in door, but staff opened and assisted very quickly.
Historical coaching Inn. Full of character. Large high ceiling room with four poster bed and original fireplace.
The bathroom needed updating. The floors undulate.
It was super clean and comfortable
The shower was quite old and needed some changes.
Location
When we arrived, we were told restaurant was shut at 4pm when website and internal signage said open until 5:30pm. This forced us to find alternative dining arrangements.
Nothing to highlight - young lady working was very polite
I was disappointed by my stay, particularly given the lack of follow-up after a serious issue. On arrival, I found cannabis and drug paraphernalia in my room. I reported this immediately to the receptionist, who appeared unsure how to deal with the situation. I expected a manager or senior member of staff to contact me, but this never happened. The receptionist herself was doing her best, but throughout my stay she appeared to be the only front-of-house employee, covering reception, the bar and table service on both the evening of my arrival and the following morning. She was clearly overstretched. The room itself was also disappointing. The mattress was extremely old and worn, with the springs easily felt through it, and the bed creaked every time I moved, making for a very uncomfortable night's sleep. Overall, the lack of cleanliness, poor communication, and uncomfortable accommodation made this a very disappointing experience. I tried twice to speak with staff since leaving via email and had no reply.
Room at the top of hotel, very quaint in 1600s building. Well appointed. Kind thought of putting fan in room . When we checked in lovely member of staff at reception and bar. Still only one member of staff but vg.
Showering over the bath was a little difficult as sloping roof, okay for shorter people. Breakfast was a farce, one member of staff having to take your order, replenish, clear tables, do reception. Waited 35 mins for cooked breakfast, after having given time of our breakfast. Breakfast and the morning member of staff let down our lovely experience of staying at the Scole.
Very friendly staff.
This was supposed to be a deluxe room but was nothing like. Decor was poor and the facilities were nonexistant. The continental breakfast was nothing more than cereal, fruit juice and toast. Service was slow and several breakfast items were out of stock.
Reception and Bar staff extremly helpful. Also not to mention chef as well. We had made an assumption, based on the establishment being a hotel that Kitchen would not close - so we arrived pretty much 'too-late' for food, however they really did help to resolve the issue
We took the option for half-board, but we never noticed that breakfast timings were outside of our required timings - So we never managed to make use of the half-board breakfast as it was from 08:00 onwards. :-( I doubt very much booking.com will offer any compensation for not stating this clearly
The one member of staff who seemed to have to do everything was overworked but really competent. Cleaning staff were helpful and friendly.
Terrible policies of charging for early check in - even to simply change for a wedding. Windows didn’t open, boiling hot room, only one bedside lamp.
Good outside deck, fridge in room
No drinking water, only 1 opening window, mattress too soft
Great value and historic
Had no hot water on my last stay. And this was in a superior room
The period of it and the features
The location
On arrival, the room was full of cobwebs and dust. There was mould in the shower, and worst of all, there was poo left in the toilet.
Breakfast was o.k not a lot of choice for continental
The floor tiles in the bathroom were broken and loose and coul quite easily cut your feet. The staffing level is clearly an issue,The staff were brilliant but clearly had to many tasks to perform resulting in lengthy waiting times for customers.
Morgan was brilliant
Hot , stuffy , hot water came from cold tap . They got in a muddle over bar bill .
Accommodation was good, clean with comfortable bed and a nice ensuite. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good breakfast.
Communication poor, slow wifi, low mobile signal strength and no Freeview TV. Restaurant atmosphere (Greek) could have been better, food was disappointing.
Very quaint hotel Good location Available parking Nice breakfast
The bed could have been level , we slept sloping towards our heads The shower didn’t work, only cold coming out The TV didn’t work apart from blue screen after trying to tune Our other room was offered as a family room with 2 x double beds and 2 singles but had 1 of each
The staff / one guy on reception and bar was polite and efficient. Nice location and good car parking
Room was slightly uncomfortable. Cheap mattress which didn;t feel comfortable. Curtain did not block out light as they were not fitting to the window space. Therefore works at 4;45am. I realise this in is 400 years old, but you can get blinds / curtains that will fit the space properly and ensure guests can sleep / relax. Also, the Giros on the Greek menu needs work to make it edible.
Zeer warme kamer, moeilijk te koelen
Lovely breakfast and clean comfy room. Near to our party that’s why we booked it.
Great facilities for money- en suite with bath, tea and coffee making facilities with loads of pods, great bath products including shampoo and conditioners, plenty plug sockets. Unexpectedly great Greek restaurant for dinner and good breakfast. Very helpful staff.
Lots cobwebs around the windows as lots old properties do but could have done with a once over with a duster. V v low water pressure in the shower! I didn’t notice but heavier spouse felt mattress was on the thin side.
Liked that it was old and had a lot of character, felt homely
Nothing
I love the character of the hotel. The staff a really friendly and breakfast was delicious
The only thing I can say was at breakfast we were harassed by flys. I know this can’t be helped in the warmer months but it did disrupt our peaceful breakfast we were looking for.
Off the road parking
Breakfast buffet was practically non existent. No yogurt, no fruit, limited choice of cereal, no pastries. Full English breakfast menu ok
Clean, and comfy bed
The television didn't work and seemed not to have done for some indefinite time. Staff were clueless and totally disinterested. One said that the telly might be fixed in a "few days", and seemingly saw no irony in that being after I'd long left.
Nice building
No secure parking for bikes and not sufficient space in rooms
Beautiful old building and helpful kind staff.
We were put in a very small pet friendly room in the coach house buildings. To small to have a dog in there and had a strange smell. We asked if we could change rooms and were put into a larger room in the main building. Unfortunately the room is in desperate need of refurbishment. Paint flaking of walls, windows and radiators, lamp bulb had blown so changed it myself, awkward bathroom. Hot evening but if we opened the window all we could hear was the kitchen extractor fan below it. Unfortunately would not stay again.
Breakfast was ok.
1. The receptionist was unprofessional and not terribly helpful on arrival. 2. The room was too small, the floor wasn’t level, there was no hanging space, and the bathroom taps were defective. 3. The hotel generally had a feel of neglect and wasn’t particularly well-situated.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely historical building which has not lost it's charm as a hotel. Lovely bar area to relax with a huge original fire place. Quite a privilege to stay in such a building.
Only a minor point was that the bike racks were uncovered in the rear car park and no alternative offered. This hotel is on the popular Rebellion Way route so must have lots of cyclists stay. A shame there wasn't a dinner option on Sunday eve but that's uncommon in the UK.
Friendly staff and accommodating
Bed had lump in middle felt like I was going to roll out
Comfier beds
Nothing
Price included half board, great price
Room , very tired bathroom in particular, bits broken and worn etc.
Clean, comfortable, well situated to explore locale, helpful staff and quirky structure of 16th century building! Nice breakfast too.
Lack of ordinary tea bags at breakfast! But these were acquired for us…!
Nice building
No hot water for two days and no incentive from the property to put it right. Please avoid!
The Hotel
Location
It was in the right area for us
When we got there we were on the second floor. I’m 84 and we couldn’t do the stairs so instead of having a King‘s room we ended up with the dog’s room with no refund for the difference. Breakfast time they didn’t have everything on the menu Friday, we had to have our breakfast before 8 o’clock.
Interesting building
Sloping floors
The history of the building and location impressed me very much. The staff were friendly and helpful.
It was perfect for our overnight stay
As above
Charming building and friendly staff
Bar area is rather unwelcoming and bathrooms need modernisation
The room was both comfortable and spacious, quiet and convenient. The evening meal had limited choice for me, with various health concerns, but I found something I enjoyed.
The breakfast was fine if you wanted a full English cooked breakfast, but I only had coffee as there was scant choice of cereal and only white sliced bread.
We stayed in one of the stable block rooms which was fine but we always prefer the rooms in the main hotel - we have stayed at the Scole Inn many times over the years! However, the breakfast did not disappoint and was lovely as always. We loved the look.of the new Greek Restaurant and will definitely give it a try next time!
Prefer rooms in the main hotel but Stable Block but other than that, nothing negative to report!
The Hotel was beautiful, and staff friendly even though understaffed and under a lot of pressure.
The food was disappointing, everything. We ordered they did not have, even the basic pub food burgers and fish and chips.
Quaint & fait facilities
A lot to steps to room
Bar and restaurant were lacking atmosphere
No staff present to meet us and no breakfast available or staff the next day
Staff tried hard to make the stay as best as poossible.
There where lots of minor things that just where not right and we had to chase for 1. Water pressure in room was very poor 2. Breakfast was poor service good but lots thins just not there
An amazing place to stay. It felt like going back in history. The 400 year old building was beautiful and atmospheric with upgrades that enhanced the experience. From check in with Morgan - the desk guy- who set the scene for an epic stay, telling tales of ghosts and highwayman to the quirky staircase, room with priesthole and Tudor windows the place was fantastic fun. We loved it. Go and stay in a museum- you won’t regret it.
The building is old and quirky but still has old mod cons. Can’t complain.
Location was walking distance to my relatives
We mentioned within 1 hour of arrival the toilet seat was very loose it was still not sorted 3 days later The hot water took forever to come through and water pressure so low we didn't attempt to use the shower Also untidy outside cigarettes butts all over the grass
Staff we exceptionally helpful. The Hotel was very old and they kept the original doors etc. It was very quiet stay. It was nice to have a very large double bed. Shower/bath was very good. A small shop round the corner.
The large bed was made up with 2 single beds but they were different heights which made a hill in the middle of the bed. It made it difficult to roll over. There were marks on the wall where there should of been a towel rail. The bath tap was constantly running, we could not turn it completely off. The bathroom sink plug was faulty and would not pop up. T.V. was difficult to get any channels. The room seamed a little tired and probably needs a refresh. These negative points still didn't detract from our stay. We will be back.
It has a lot of character
The general areas were not heated and very cold.
Lovely old biilding, location ideal for us. Pleasant staff.
Room up two flights of stairs, small room, shower doors poor, no shower gel , no wardrobe or hanging clothes facility . .ex back if bathroom door.
Its proximity to everything we needed was brilliant and the historic building was everything we hoped for. Our room wasn’t all that lovely, unfortunately. Smelled very musty (our son’s at the opposite end of the hotel was so much better) But the breakfast was lovely and the staff so very friendly, so all good
Beautiful decor
Lamp not working
The staff especially the evening staff. They were honest, attentive work well as a team and fun. The food was well cooked and tasty.
The breakfast was a bit disorganised and they kept running out of things such as milk and coffee beans, mixed fruit for the porridge. We had to choose different meals and cocktails as ingredients had run out. But what we did eat was lovely great chef
Loved the original feature of the property, the decor, tying in modern features with original features. Our room was on the top floor, comfortable and good space but the floor boards were very creaky and uneven, but that’s just with how old the building is.
I wasn’t aware that housekeeping would come in and make the beds throughout the day etc, if I’d have known I would haven’t left everything out, such as bank cards etc. however it was nice to return to fresh beds.
Room was great. Food service could be improved with more staff.
