Liked the area for peace and walking
Very poor lighting couldn't read even with all the lights on the crockery wasn't clean there was lots of dust no staff available to ask for information and no information given regarding the area supposed to be a shop we did eventually find a horse box selling something but it was never open Was expecting luxury but was very misled by the information given when booking
The points if difference around the property
I wasn’t able to have a bath as there was a leak from our bathroom to the floor below
Love this place, have stayed 5 times now and would recommend!
Going home
No WiFi or smart TV for first 24 hours. We called the number given on the online 'help' chat 3 times over 2 days, and well before the cut off time advised of 9.30pm, only for it to go to answerphone each time, but no one replied. The next day I gave up with calling and had to email customer services. If you have no staff staying on site then you must make sure you answer customer queries with as little delay as possible? The WiFi miraculously came on after about 24 hours but as it was via a TPlink booster we can only assume a neighbouring apartment had become occupied and they were using their WiFi router, hence our link device could boost the signal through to our apartment. Absolutely not good enough for £200 a night. Customer service was non- existent. Place had dead flies all over it and chipped and limited crockery. Have been a regular customer to Marske Hall and Stables (3 times) but won't be returning. Very disappointed.
Location is amazing
Hot water not working on arrival, dirty cutlery and plates in cupboards, a family of spiders in the bedroom with an amazing display of cobwebs, flooded bedroom and bed from leaking bath above.
Location great surrounded by nature and good walks. conversion of historic stables sympathetically done retaining lovely features - like the bare stone inside, beams. Comfortable. Loved all the history on the website and local information. Quiet surroundings.
Could do with more lamps and wall lights in the main room downstairs - it was quite dim and difficult to see when cooking, reading, etc. A few more large pans would be useful. There was little or no cleaning equipment, sponge... A dustpan might be useful.
Location and character of the property.
there was not any privacy from the opposite cottage as there were no blinds or curtains in the main room
Always love a visit here, nice and quiet and love the set up of the cottage
But if a dirty fridge on arrival
The stables location and quality
Nothing
Location
Nice , quiet location. Fantastic building, comfortable bed when made up.
Beds weren't made when we arrived, not a good look. It was resolved after few hrs. Not sure how this happens when rest of apartment was Cleaned. Stuffy in apartment in most rooms, we opened windows and was then at a nice temperature.
Beautiful place!
Communication was slightly poor. Had a few things missing on arrival, like towels, bin bags, toilet roll, and toiletries. It was not very well cleaned but could appreciate that staff were busy. Was resolved the same day but no follow up from management to make sure everything was ok for the rest of our stay.
Buildings were very nicely presented, beds were comfortable, lovely location
When we arrived, boiler did not work, but we resolved that during a phone call with the assistant manager (Travis). Cutlery, crockery and kitchen table were dirty (Travis blamed cleaners) , dish washer did not work, TV did not work, fridge did not work, freezer was frosted up and draws could not be opened. The assistant manager (Travis) came and it was clear some issues were known. He did not return to see how we were getting on / resolve issues. Terrible.
On arrival the whole place looked fantastic…..once in the apartment there was definitely an initial wow factor
Once in the apartment it became apparent that there was a lack of maintenance which let the whole stay down in many ways. This was a disabled access apartment yet the door into the bathroom would only open up about halfway and this has been doing this for a while as the oak flooring is scratched and scored ( only needs a a cut on the bottom of the door. Bathroom flooring detached from wall all way around the bathroom. Mirror or tiles missing in recess. Electric radiator loose and could fall off the brackets. Extractor fan caked in dust, screw caps missing ( simple fixes) Kitchen:- Big crack in tiles along the length of the sink and chipped tiles above job. Freezer box door missing, and shelves missing on the door. Dishwasher cutlery basket missing. X2 kitchen unit plinths loose and one fell on my partners foot. Main room:- Down lighters x2 lamps not working. Under window stone not painted. Horse ornament tail is missing X2 gaffer tape patches on the ceiling ( think speakers have been removed. Open faced switch plate exposing cables behind ( should have a blank plate on it. Soft two small white marks on it. Very large cobwebs along the back of the soft to the bed. These have been there a good while and not just between let’s. But worst of all we had a flood in our room at 23:00 from the shower in the room above…… we reported this but it was obvious this isn’t a first and the ceiling had been filled before.
Large rooms. Comfy beds.
Isolated location and narrow lanes. No shampoo or shower gel in the bathroom.
Amazing cottages. Lovely record and very comfortable. Great location. The courtyard was a great place to sit and socialise with family.
Under floor heating a little tricky to turn off and showers very hot
Excellent accommodation. We stayed in Seabiscuit cottage and it was huge ! It had everything we needed and a perfect place for taking dogs.
Spiderswebs to be cleaned away Noisy water system and small
Nothing
FAULTY TOWERS.... IT WAS DIRTY! Old food left in oven crumbs on table, previous guests tooth paste in the sink in the bathroom, bitten off finger nails on the floor in the living area, nice place but in the middle of nowhere. The bed broke on our first night so reported it to management they fixed the bed frame but left the mattress off the bed on the floor, the lights stopped working, we notice a leak from the ceiling. We reported we weren't happy with our stay to the management team on our leaving, after a week they offered us a complimentary midweek stay but we live nowhere near the place and myself and my partner both work full-time Monday to Friday so wouldn't be able to accept a midweek stay, we let them know we where unable to take the stay so asked for some compensation but have heard nothing back from them! Again very unprofessional for a so called luxury break.
Property is beautiful. You have everything you need for a great stay.
Dusty, fake plants, tops of kitchen cabinets. Cobwebs on stairs themselves along with dead insects. Dishwasher left residue on everything. Described as luxury, property is stunning but it needs a good clean/dust.
Everything
Nothing not to like
The area was very peaceful and the host where available when necessary. The apartment was comfy and spacious.
The work surfaces were difficult to work on to prepare our meals.
The properties were very quirky which added to the experience. We rented 2 cottages for a family birthday get together. Each property had everything we needed i.e. Bedding, towels and shower toiletries The kitchen was extremely well equipped. The layout of the Farriers Cottage was very conducive for whole family (12) mealtimes and playing board games. A footpath along the road opposite took you down to a beautiful stream where our puppies had a lovely paddle.
The properties were dog friendly but the surrounding grounds were open to the main road. Not sure if ownership of surrounding land but a fenced off piece of land made secure for our family pets to have free play would be an ideal improvement.
Beautiful location
Extremely dark in the apartment due to poor lighting. Kitchen very poorly equipped, no chopping board, no oven gloves, no hand soap for bathrooms, tiniest amount of washing up liquid that last one evening. No response to emails prior to booking or after booking. No useable outside space for our apartment - chairs rusty (corner apartment at the back)
The atmosphere and facilities
Nothing, everything was perfect!
We stayed in Main Hall in Library Suite Should of been in stables but was overbooked. Suite was large and bed was very comfy. Oven heated up quickly
Suite was for upto 4 people No microwave, measuring jug, mixing bowl, oven gloves, tray, not enough cutlery, no coat hangers, shower towel hooks, hand towel hook, no safety rail in bath, no non slip mat for bath had to take my own. Only 1 half toilet roll ( were there 4 nights) only 1 hand towel and 1 tea towel ( if you wanted more toilet roll, hand/ tea towels had to pay). Had to hang shower towels and hand towels over bed rails and doors to dry. Bathroom and lounge dusty and loads of cobwebs with big spiders. All dinner wear, cutlery, glasses, mugs, saucepans, frying pans, utensils dirty had to put everything through dishwasher before using.. Settee very uncomfortable 2nd bedroom had no side tables or cupboards
Lovely property and well situated for our needs.
War Horse - one dinner plate (2people), no scouter sponge or drainer. Most light bulbs not working so very gloomy. Red Rum - oven filthy/greasy so had to be cleaned before use (had to improvise as no cleaning equipment). Jet bath filthy. Switched on and jetted out a load of black crap - had to use shower instead. Some light bulbs not working. Toiletries not as specified
Lovely location, rolling hills, quiet and relaxed. Very hot needed a few fans or air-conditioning. Needed to be cleaner and spider free.
Massive spider and not clean
Fantastic location for a restful day or 2 away. Beautiful surroundings and plenty to do nearby but also nicely remote for the peace & quiet.
Didn't like that week haven't been in the autumn/winter. Got the feeling it could be even better then.
Apartment was ok with rustic features. kitchen fairly well equipped.
Several things were broken, radiator hanging off the wall and tiles missing in the bathroom. The heating was on despite an English heatwave! Asked for a highchair but it didn't arrive. watered down soap and only one toilet roll for 3 adults for 3 days! The court yard is a disgrace, there is no excuse for wooden furniture that needs an application of teak oil, dirty plastic plants outside and a chess set that has seen better days. We were lead to believe there was access to a hot tub and a small basic shop - no shut thing! The whole place looks like it is closed for the winter rather than being clean, bright and open for the summer.
Location and overall exterior presentation was great. Setting tranquil and dreamlike especially the addition of random wandering peacocks on site.
Interior fixtures and fittings need updating and a bit more tlc provided. Trims of bathroom and kitchen loose or missing and drawers in bedrooms not functioning.
Loved the inside space and the flag stone floors. Nice sized beds and quiet atmosphere. Washer drier amd dish washer was a nice touch too. Freedom to walk around the lower grounds and look at the big house . Any interaction with staff was positive and phone calls prior to arrival were supportive and helpful.
Could have been more for the kids to do but I am being picky here. Taught my eldest girl chess moves which was fun for her. (Positive) Somehow I found it confusing not finding the key code number for the door key box in the communication but that was resolved prior to arrival by getting in touch prior to arriving and it did not hinder our getting into the property. Again, being very picky here as these points are the only negatives during a most excellent venue and stay.
Lovely place to stay ..accommodation was great ..Self catering but not far to Richmond for shop's or eating out. Lovely walks .
Accommodation was lovely everything you need ...could do with good Deep clean lot's of cobwebs...dust on light fittings. Also I reported freezer couldn't open draws frozen solid.. got email saying waiting new seals...also stains on sofas. But apart from that ok 👍
de badkamer
de algemene afwerking, een beetje onderhoud schoonmaken, zeker de plaatsen die minder toegankelijk waren bijv. plafond en lampen en bovenop de kast
The location, the place itself was amazing staying in something historical was right up our street. The setting wasovely very chilled and relaxing away from everything. We loved the fact e ery apartment had its own outside seating place wirh a shared court yard
Beautiful location.. excellent apartment
Kitchen tap dripping continuously Freezer iced up couldn’t use it We have seen the reviews, same thing had been said ! Not been fixed! The mattress too soft Didn’t see any staff
Up to date information on appliances, no instructions for the oven, we had to work it out ourselves which wasn't ideal. There is a QR code in the welcome pack but it was for a Bosch oven, the oven in the apartment was a Lamona oven. No information on how to change the underfloor heating controls, the heating was on all the time we were there. Not necessary for the summer! Don't think this is good for the environment. Why are there new single glazed windows? Thought these would be at least double glazed or even triple glazed. Couldn't see much, if any, evidence of energy efficiency upgrades to the buildings. There seemed to be a good opportunity to create a low energy, environmentally friendly set of holiday apartments but looks like this has been missed, which is a shame.
We really liked the location of Marske stables, although quite remote, was very comfortable in peaceful surroundings. Good roomy accommodation very well equipped.
We were with my elderly parents and the only negative was the lighting was a bit dark, and they were struggling especially in the evenings.
Everything about the place was amazing, location, the properties were fantastic, clean, comfortable beds, all kitchens fully equipped, everything we needed. The bathrooms were great too.
Nothing.
Nothing
Everything. Fridge and freezer did not close properly, bath broke, tap broke, no reception, no housekeeping, the list is endless. We had one set of towels for 3 days. Everything advertised is false
Lovely location, very spacious room.
Not particularly clean, lacking in finer details such as dirty glasses in cupboards, nearly empty hand soaps without and shampoo or body wash provided, cobwebs on ceiling, dog hairs on sofa cushions, dirty shower head, loose fittings on bath, broken curtain rail, rotten peach on window sill from previous occupants, only 3 tea bags left for a 2 night stay. Particularly bad was potential rat or mouse droppings outside our door with a Henry Hoover right next to them but nothing cleaned during our 2 day stay with no staff seen to report it to. Overall could not be described as a "luxury" apartment.
Very spacious and clean
We filled the bath and then there was no hot water. The tap sink was dripping continuously and we couldn’t get in the freezer. We had no milk as instructed on the info there would have been half a pint. No signal for t.v.
We liked the large open plan space and decor. During our stay we had 2 very pleasant walks and I went for a run. Lovely countryside right on the doorstep. We met Deborah & Nathan, both really pleasant and helpful.
Nothing.
Was a beautiful property!! Well equipped with everything you would need. Beautiful location, was a short drive to richmond and lots of local walking places. Self check in via keysafe was great- hassle free
The property is very different. Old stables turned modern apartments. Great size, fully equipped kitchen and comfy beds. There is only one bathroom and not two as described on booking.com. Management said they will get the summary corrected. We stayed as 2 couples so the two king rooms are fabulous and we did manage with one bathroom though 2 would have been better as described when we booked. A quiet location, a short drive to the local pub which we had great meals. Overall a great stay at Marske Stables. The location allows for travel in various directions for days out. Great walks nearby.
TV is set high on the wall. This causes some neck discomfort. The TV wouldn’t connect on arrival but after a phone call the management sent two amazing staff to fix a switch problem and they also set up the WiFi on the smart Tv. They were very friendly and efficient. It was great they came out to address the concerns so quickly.
Location
Nothing
Lovely stay, beautiful surroundings. Very comfortable beds and good facilities.
A little out of the way but didn't spoil our stay
Beautiful, historic, quirky, high ceilings, beams, thick stone walls & much more!
I liked it all!
Brilliant value, amazing peaceful property. Highly recommended
Everything
Very pretty surroundings and the stables building was lovely. Comfortable beds Distinctive furniture that fit the period Good parking Lovely soft and huge towels Plenty of storage/hanging space in the bedroom Coat rack near the door, very useful
All of the doors creaked very noisily It was very hot and there wasn’t any instructions relating to the heating The seal around the shower cubicle base was very dirty and needed replacing The rooms were very dark. I appreciate that it’s an old building and our apartment was surrounded by trees, but even though it was a beautiful day outside, we had to have all the lights on. The dim lighting in the bedroom made it difficult to put make up on. The only mirror in the bathroom was above the bath, so not easy to use for make up or shaving. There wasn’t any operating instructions for any of the appliances. There was only 4 of everything in the crockery, so although there was a dish washer, unless we ran the dishwasher nearly empty, we had to wash up before we could use items again. We seems to negate having a dishwasher. There were plenty of glasses. No space for toiletries in the bath room
Excellent venue for our family gathering. Space for all, with room to retreat if needed. Peacocks wandering past the door, out sitting on the window ledge were an unexpected treat. Beautiful countryside, and close to Richmond
Review of Marske Stables - The War Horse Suite Upon our arrival on Friday for check-in, we discovered that the remote control for the television was missing. Given the limited activities in the surrounding area, we considered it essential for relaxation at night. We contacted the hotel staff to inquire about its whereabouts, but were advised to search for it. This was an unexpected and unacceptable situation. After searching under the bed and removing cushions from the sofas, we were informed that the remote was on the table next to the television or on the coffee table. We repeated the search but were unsuccessful. During this process, we discovered dirt, dust and hair under the bed and between the cushions on the sofa. We were also informed that a maintenance person would deliver a remote control, but this did not occur. On Saturday, the War Horse suite was located next to the cleaning cupboard. This caused a significant disturbance as the cleaner made excessive noise outside the suite and upstairs for over an hour. Following the cleaning, we were disturbed by barking and howling dogs, which had been left unattended. There is a £35 surcharge for bringing a dog and the hotel’s policy prohibits them from being left unattended. The War Horse shower was also problematic due to water build-up, necessitating the removal of water to prevent flooding. Fortunately, neither my wife nor I are disabled, which would have made this impossible. The complimentary toiletries were also inadequate. Overall, we were deeply disappointed with the owners and management’s lack of support. The customer service was deplorable and a significant letdown for the price paid.
We cannot think of a single thing that we liked about it.
The apartment had 2 double bedrooms but a tiny dining table with 2 chairs. {see photo}. There had clearly been a dog or dogs in there . From the smell it had not had a deep clean as you would expect. The velvet drapes hung on the floor at the entrance hall {see photo} The soft furnishings were stained and dusty. Rugs were a trip hazard.{see photo} The floor in the living area and bathroom was stone flagstones with underfloor heating. It worked in some areas intermittently. There were no staff on site. We rang a number and spoke to a lady who sent out a handyman. He fiddled around with various switches but did not appear to have a clue what he was doing. We spoke with 10 people who were staying who were all having problems with heat. One family had been relocated and another had been there for 5 days without any heat at all and were told that a part had been ordered for the boiler. The apartment was dark and gloomy as the grounds had not been maintained. Other guests parked up against our bedroom windows and there were no blinds so we had to keep our curtains closed. [see photo} We had a small patio area with a bistro table and 2 chairs{see Photo}. That really was the final straw - would you sit on that.
Fab stay beautiful location comfy beds such a beautiful place
No instructions for anything electrical or boiler
We stayed at Farriers and Woodcutters cottage as a family. We had a great stay. Very spacious rooms all with their own en-suite. Beautiful area with access to local pubs and walks only a short drive away.
The property would benefit from a deep clean. There is a significant amount of dust built up around the property. Farriers Cottage smelt of dust. The bed frames were extremely noisy and would squeak every time you moved. The mattresses probably need a refresh too. It’s a shame some regular TLC and more thorough cleaning could turn this property into a 10/10. Would definitely visit again though.
It was absolutely outstanding and above all expectations! Tranquil and an absolutely stunning apartment.
Nothing it was perfect.
Location was great tastefully decorated with horse related accessories
Kitchen lacking in utensils no tin opener no whisk no wooden spoon only 2 small rectangular dishes to use in oven Washing machine in kitchen but no airers or facilities to get clothes dry we eventually found a guest book hidden down side of unit in lounge which had a few leaflets of ideas of places to visit Also a list of equipment in kitchen but alot of things on list were not there We did contact staff as upstairs shower was dripping water through ceiling into lounge and we're provided with a drip tray for the lounge floor we did however enjoy our holiday visiting places in the surrounding area.
Location and near by places.
Bathroom toilet was wobbly, need rail to hand towels. Bed was squeaky too. Also lighting was to dim and in living area need curtains for privacy.
Beautiful location and decor inside.
Non working shower or heat , couldn’t contact anybody regarding this for 24 hours.
Fantastic location
The whole thing
Location was great and the appointment spacious.
Heating did not work which they knew about. So no hot water. Made boiler work myself. When reported was told that they knew and it was a fault that had been fixed. Poor customer service.
Absolutely beautiful!!! I can’t complain about anything. Lovely beds, gorgeous location, just fabulous!
Nothing
Great location and lovely accommodation.
Could do with a few more bits in the kitchen, and the TV had no stations tuned in ,also WiFi dropped out a lot when trying to stream programme's.
Beautiful apartment in secluded part of estate, spacious with everything you need for a relaxing break. Peacocks were lovely to watch, we even saw a new chick taking its first steps.
Outdoor paths running up to entrance, slippery with leaves. On reporting the issue it was rectified immediately. Water temperature for bath only Luke warm.
Literally everything. The location, the building, the apartments, the interior, the size, the care and attention put into each individual apartment. The beautiful linen, the colour scheme, the toiletries, even down to the cafetière. The parking, the twinkly lights, the peacock roaming around. Opulent and just perfect.
I can honestly say there was nothing.
Really beautiful property
Everything was spot on apart from the freezer needing de icing to get into the drawers but only took us 10 minutes.
Everything
Not enough hot water to run a bath after 1hour managed a shower
Level of equipment, comfort and location
Nothing
Absolutely everything. From our warm welcome to an easy departure it was just the perfect stay. The best I have stayed in for years. And my goodness the beds….. wow! Best nights sleep we have all had in a long time. Very high quality apartments. Super staff. Amazing surroundings. Couldn’t be happier and are looking to book again soon.
Nothing. Everything was considered in the apartments.
Excellent location and the apartment we ended up in was well equipped.
We arrived to accommodation which was a mess with cleaning equipment and materials abandoned, bed not made up, no linen and the whole place had not been cleaned. Although the kitchen trash had been taken away, the bathroom bin had not been emptied. A phone number was provided for the Manager who was off site and she was able to relocate us in alternative and bigger accommodation which was well equipped. Although expensively and stylishly decorated, there were details that let the accommodation down. Some lights did not work, the TV was too high on the wall, damage to a worktop trim had not been repaired and there was a collection of dusty plastic plants totally at odds with the decor and ambience of these beautiful old buildings.
Super warm with all the mod-cons, super powerful shower, plus a deep lux bath, linen is soft and new! Mega comfy beds & sofas, WiFi available.
The property is situation in such a stunning area. The views all around the beautiful. It was the perfect, relaxing getaway.
The jacuzzi tub was fantastic but after filling it 1/2 way the water went freezing. The shower also showed so much promise but the water pressure was weak and water went cold half through. I may be nitpicking but the the jacuzzi tub was one of the biggest reasons we booked.
Gorgeous rooms! Modern and homely. Loved the huge corner jacuzzi bath. Extra soft beds and bedding. Lots of space, great for cooking. Cosy and quiet, surrounded by nature. Lovely walks round there and close to Richmond.
We did not use the shower room because there was a strong smell of sulphur/egg which may have been the drains. The hairdryer did not work. The plugs in the sinks don't drain easily so water filled up in the sinks quite easily. The oven was hard to work and the QR code instructions in the booklet are not up to date - it took us to a Bosch manual and the oven is not that brand. The heating/temperature was not easy to understand and change.
Rooms very nice, location lovely, staff very helpful to a point.
Stayed for 2 nights & stayed in x3 rooms. Due to CH not working in booked room (Frankel-x2 bed, x2 en suite etc) we were moved (after 4.5hrs) to Warhorse (x1 bed, accessible/disabled room) where we spent first night. We would have remained there if I hadn't called to say this is not the type/size of room I had booked or paid (quite a lot) for. Later on 2nd day afternoon we were eventually moved to Red Rum room which was comparable to Frankel & more in line with what we had booked. I realise they are quite busy at this time of year & these things do happen but feel more could have been done instead of me having to constantly chase up to get things moving. Our few days away were not as relaxing as we envisaged.
Rustic barns
Unfortunately we did not have heating and hot water due to issue with boiler in sea biscuit. Looking at reviews this was not a one off and we were disappointed as we would not expect this.Once we alerted the staff, Caroline was understanding about our concerns and offered us to move to marske house to the Hutton suite. We would not recommend a stay at the seabiscuit due to the problems, however were very grateful that we were offered a solution we were happy with. Hutton suite was really lovely and would recommend.
Brill location. Staff nice and helpful
Nothing
love this property, huge, beautiful clean beds and bathrooms, kitchen plentiful, exactly as described
bit of an issue with the boiler
What’s not to love. Everything is simply perfect, location, building, apartments, interior, comfy beds, gorgeous bed linen, beautiful bathrooms, toiletries, views, the twinkly lights, seating areas, the list goes on.
Absolutely nothing
The stables are in a stunning location and are decorated to the highest standard. The staff are all helpful and pleasant.
We had 2 premises booked. One had no hot water and no Internet, the other had no Internet and water coming through a light fitting
Lovely location, so well kept and clean. Real comfort with a luxurious feeling. We stayed as a family of 3 plus a small dog. We all loved it. We also misplaced our key and we were not left stranded. We were so grateful for the support. Thank you to the whole team.
Nothing. All was exactly what we were looking for.
