Great friendly staff who wanted to make sure the customers were well looked after. Great food and service.
Nothing
Excellent staff. Polite, worked exceptionally hard to make everything as it should be
May be bathroom and curtains were a bit tired (nit picking)
The breakfast was discussing. We were told to order the night before, the food was presented has soon has we sat down, this had been made and sat on a hot plate, the egg was rock hard sausages under cooked, mushroom shrivelled. I ended up with a pot of yogurt. The bathroom was tatty old silicone on the floor, dressing table missing paint which didn’t look appealing. Evening staff were pushing to get you out of the restaurant to they could no doubt finish early. Morning staff miserable. The staff looked very scruffy
Nice hotel in quiet rural village. Food good and comfy bed
The hotel seemed short staffed
The staff were very friendly. The menu was not overly large but everything we ate was very good. Outside seating area.
You didn't appear to be able to walk to anywhere which meant you had to drive all the time but roads were good. The drinks were a little pricey.
Location, staff, room.
We were looking forward to a Sunday roast but when we finally received it it was overcooked.
Location excellent. The young lady from Poland who looked after us during breakfast and dinner was exceptional. Comfortable beds.
The man who checked us in was bordering on rude. Asked us how we wanted to pay, we said cash and he said no, cards only (however, we could pay cash for our dinner?!!) then told me that they had already charged my card anyway, which has never happened with me when booking with Booking.com. Our rooms were in need of a thorough clean - the bin in my room hadn’t been emptied when I went in.
Breakfast was lovely. The host was very helpful and friendly.l
Unfortunately the initial reception from whoever was running the reception/ bar was not good. He was curt and not at all helpful. He could not maintain eye contact and to be honest made us feel very unwelcomed. Should also mention that the quality of the WiFi was not good and reception on the TV was also hit and miss .
Comfortable bed, good breakfast, great poached eggs. Management and staff very friendly.
Our room lacked any drawer or shelf storage. The towels could have been better.
A comfortable and friendly place to stay. The breakfast was very good and the room was clean and had everything which I needed.
The food was very nice and the waitress was friendly.
Room no.6 bathroom is very small, shower leaks under screen onto floor, the soap needs to be in a dispenser. One small pillow per person and no garden view as stated when I booked, just a view of the flat roof.
Very welcoming, cosy, a lovely Hotel/Restaurant
Just struggled a bit getting onto the bed 😄 it was quite high, a comfortable mattress but very squishy so not easy to get onto the bed
Lovely pub, food was good and service good
We stayed overnight, the bed was uncomfortable, there was only one hard pillow each side. No hairdryer despite description saying there was. Unfortunately there was dirty female underwear laying half under the bed. Room not very well cleaned !
Great atmosphere
Nothing
From arrival to departure the staff tried to please which was very refreshing. The meal service for dinner and breakfast was first classa as was the food on offer. The hotel was , in all respects, as we had anticipated and we will return.
As with lot's of other hotels the outside (beer garden) was a little disappointing in that the clenliness did not match the rest of the hotel. If you don,t smoke then you would tend not to use it.
Location
Duvet, too hot.
The friendliness of the staff. The good food nicely served and well presented
The lack of a banister rail for going upstairs to the roo..
I love the location and also the cosy room and the staff was helpful and friendly. In addition a walk in the evening in the nesrby village is just marvellous. I love the breakfast and the structure of the building which retained its classic decor alongside with the fireplace.
Nothing
Lovely village pub very comfortable accommodation, fabulous evening meal and lovely breakfast all staff very friendly would highly recommend
Bedankt Bernard!!
Niks natuurlijk! Alles was top!! Een dikke 10!!❤️
La excelente atención de la persona encargada de la cocina al momento del desayuno
Lovely pub in a great location for visiting Rutland Water. Staff were all very friendly. Great evening meal and breakfast.
Nothing
Lovely place to stay in a great location for visiting all the attractions in Rutland . Varied menu for evening meals , highly recommend, top class food . Great choice for breakfast too in relaxed surroundings . Ideal choice for our sisters weekend away & the fans in the room were a welcome bonus .
No improvement needed
Lovely room with nice features. The owners were attentive and kind and made my birthday special. Nice food as well. Location was perfect for what we wanted.
There was nothing about the property that would put us off going again
The staff made the stay lovely. Thank you all of you,for making my stay a special one xxx
Nothing.
Beautiful place to stay and such good value for money. Customer service is very good. Excellent choice of food and drinks. We enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast sat in the outside patio area.
There was nothing not to like other than we were only able to stay over 1 night ☺️
Very friendly staff Clean, comfortable room Amazing food Lovely location

Lovely peaceful location. Staff very welcoming. Food excellent. Clean rooms. Comfortable beds.
Nothing
The inn was clean staff ok location good restaurant food good liked pre order for breakfast
Breakfast poor very little option no gluten free bread did not like the self service if it was busy it would have been hectic no information in bedroom or fire plan welcome tray lacking
Communication and friendliness of staff, good location and quality of food.
Just a popular, busy venue that needs some TLC.
Lovely & clean & comfortable
Food is quite basic & expensive Quiet village, nothing else there
An adequate overnight stay on the way back home. Room, especially bathroom, felt well worn & in need of a refresh - minor maintenance issues, but nothing to require a call to staff. Strange doggy smell pervading corridor & yes we realise that dogs are allowed, but have never smelt them in other places we have stayed. Food was average, nothing bad enough to complain about.
Tired room, doggy smell.
Grateful family room, friendly and conscience staff and the dinner and breakfast was fantastic. A great place to stay and would highly recommend 👌 👍
Could nor fault our stay
All staff members were extremely helpful and pleasant. The building itself was charming and located well for our visit to Stamford.
The bed wasn’t very comfortable.
Nice little hotel, nice staff, clean
Bit dated
Quite comfortable and relaxing. Staff were very helpful and efficient. Made us feel very welcome.
Evening Restaurant menu was a little limited and not as extensive as we had seen online before our visit. For a celebration night, it was just a little disappointing. Too many options were ‘cheese based’ too.
Breakfast was good, a good selection of cold options and the cooked was cooked fresh as you arrived in the dinning room.
I didn't like the coffee it was out of a machine and not very nice and the tea was tetley if you like weak tea fine.
The bed size was perfect in the family room. Very comfortable Staff friendly and felt homely
Old pub, got character, staff helpful and polite, food great.
Room ok but the vents in bathroom need brushing and cleaning. Huge bed quite hard but just 2 pillows that looked lost and some hard old cushions not at all comfortable wife and I didn’t get much sleep wife ended up with neck ache.
A nice rural location. The pub was of a high standard with very friendly staff
Nothing
Lovely grade 2 hotel, everything was fine, especially the friendly and efficient staff Highly recommended
Nothing
Where it was situated.
Because of the warm temperatures we had the windows open and we could hear passing vehicles through the night.
It was a convenient location . It looks nice on the outside. It was reasonably priced. It was clean. Young staff were polite and helpful..
After a 5:hour drive and before we had been given our room we had to decide what cooked items we wished to order for breakfast the following morning as they were read out by the receptionist. (And even then one of the items ordered had run out when we got down in the morning which rather made pre-ordering pointless). This needs to be reviewed and done differently. The continental.breakfast was just cereals, toast or a croissant (which were not freshly baked ). No cheese or cold meats. Not great. In the evening many of the items on the meal menu had run out. This, on a Friday with the weekend ahead was disappointing. I understand the pressure on hospitality venues to control.costs and avoid wastage but this and the breakfast ordering went a bit too far. The road was noisier than we had expected. So the hotel.was ok without being anything special.
Lovely pub, had bar snacks and breakfast. Very comfortable and clean
Cannot fault the room, comfortable beds, although was very warm due to the heat outside - was so grateful to see a fan in room upon arrival. Food was spot on. A very good menu.
There was nothing not to like
Lovely pub with beer garden, good food, and ample parking, my room was clean and very quiet. Breakfast had plenty of choice for me, either cooked or cereals, fruit is available.
It is on a fairly main road but to be honest from my room I wasn't aware of any traffic noise and one of the beer gardens is away from the road.
Reasonably priced and comfy bed
Decent breakfast, evening food just OK Room was small and hot Fan provided but needs air con
Excellent staff - and brilliant veggie salad 🤩
Clean with nice friendly and helpful staff.
Very friendly staff, good value
It was all good
Ideal location for stopover. Rooms were quite pleasant
Poor selection of breakfast items, food quite expensive for portions but free hair on steak. The staff seemed inexperienced
Bernard and team have the most wonderful property, and are kind and fun hosts. The rooms and pub downstairs are both great, it's incredible value, and we really appreciated the laughs over breakfast. We can't wait to come back.
Nothing not to like
Location and the Polish lady serving
Bar closed at 22.00 on Saturday night and 21.00 on Sunday. Rooms very hot and only small bedside fan. View of A/C unit from bedroom. Shower not good and no room service
Everything
Good location, rooms were comfortable, staff very friendly, good value for money
Can be noisy, doors are heavy so they slam quite loudly and not good when you have a nervous dog. Food was ok, bar shuts at10pm every night and asked to take drinks back to room after around 10.30..
Breakfast was fine, asked we we wanted scrambled eggs, thought being asked would present a nice fresh eggs, no! rubbery eggs! Hardly warm, obviously been made some time, not nice, otherwise choices for continental breakfast was fine.
The meal in the restaurant, Sunday evening 6.30, belly pork with veg, would have expected this meal to be cooked fresh, no it was reheated and swimming in gravy, presentation sadly, very poor, mentioned it to waiter when he came to take plate away, didn't even apologise, and certainly not shown any recompense, only ate a small amount! Sadly very disappointing. I would imagine at lunch time it may have been a much nicer meal with a very different result.
Great food, lovely staff
Typisch englisches Haus! Sensationelles Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis und ausgezeichnetes sehr preiswertes Essen.
Bei offenem Fenster hörte man gelegentlich Straßenlärm von unserem Zimmer aus.
Lovely Pub/Hotel with character and great people. Hotel room was great, big comfy bed and lots of coffee/tea options.
Nothing!
Cleanliness, comfortable bed, friendly owner.
TV needs to be a bit bigger
Breakfast and dinner were good, choices were good. Rooms were comfortable and clean.
Bar closed at 10pm sharp and they would never light the log fire, even although it was cold.
Lovely staff, food delicious, nice dog walks nearby.
Very bouncy single beds - rolled over and fell out!
nice breakfast
not much
Absolutely lovely. Beautiful property and the friendliest people!
Nothing! Loved it! It’s a ways out from the town, so if it’s important to be near the action that’s something to consider, but the peaceful atmosphere was a plus for us.
Lovely place ..nice staff..very comfy bed..very good breakfast...good parking
Nothing
Beautiful building, exceptional staff, perfect location for overnight stay during long travel. Very friendly welcome and helpful team. Charming village and people.
The bathroom could benefit from extractor fan as it gets very steamy and smelly, and better lighting would improve the rooms a great deal as it felt quite gloomy. Not great problems, but if I were to consider what would have improved our stay, these improvements would make a significant difference.
Good enough given inclusive overall price but wierd that they charge an extra £1 for hash browns.
Nowhere to store or hang clothes. Weak to no wi-fi signal in main bedroom. Hopeless venetian blinds so rooms (especially kids room) were light at sunrise.
Clean nicely decorated rooms and bathroom, good mattress
Temperature variation in the shower Getting in and out of the shower/ bath not easy Staff keen to close down in evening
It was very well presented and good location
Although it was June the weather was cold/wet and bedrooms were chilly. Also could have done with either a heated towel rail or hooks in the bathroom to hang towels up to dry
Good location good parking. Comfy bed. Plenty hot water. Nice bar. And good evening food.
Breakfast could be made a little more varied and interesting. Only tea and coffee provided in the rooms - how about sachets of chocolate? Electric car charging points would be a bonus.
Lovely building, located close to Rutland Water, Oakham & Stamford. Very friendly staff, nice room with very comfortable beds, great shower.
Breakfast was a little basic.
Beautiful location. Staff were hard working and friendly.
Nothing.. amazing place
Lovely place to stay and the food was good and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful. This was our second time to stay here. Ample parking at the back of the premises.
Staff pleasant , nice quiet location, bedrooms away from road, decent range and quality of food
Bedrooms small but comfortable
Comfy bed
Eggs Benedict was served with just one egg
Good welcome, good communication. Very good breakfast options, enjoyed our evening meals.
Mattress a lille on the hard side, so not as restful as would have liked.
The included breakfast was very good and the service was excellent .
The spacious family room.
The hot water tap was loose and the water was very hot. No handrail on the stairs.

This is a great country pub with very comfortable accommodation. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The food was very good. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we are very likely to book again
Nothing
Very large bed in room 4P. Room was very clean.
Breakfast options were a bit limited. My daughter asked for a poached egg on her avocado on toast and was told it would be 2 pounds extra.
Food was excellent, bed was comfy. Staff were very friendly.
Stairs had not stair rail.
Lovely hotel with restaurant and bar. Had a tasty meal ( but see comment below). Good parking, friendly staff, lovely ensuite room.
We both had the chicken curry, which was really nice, but a skimpy portion. 4 bite size pieces of chicken each.
loved the room (single room) quiet and just right - just the bed see bed comment ..
to me , the bed was a bit short (single room) but then again i am quite tall... 1m86cm
Smart, quiet rooms and good food, great choice for breakfast.
Nothing
Lovely Clean Live music
Local to where I needed to work for a few days. Well presented room, breakfast was included in the rate and was very nice.
No negative comments to note.
It has a lovely cosy feel, really easy to check in and staff were so welcoming. We slept really well, the bed was comfortable and a fan in the room was welcome in the warm weather. It was good value for money, and they even had dairy free options which was great to see.
Nothing, it was well priced for what you get
All of the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was supremely comfortable. The food was good and nicely presented. It was in a very convenient location for Rutland, Oakham and Uppingham. All interesting places to visit.we had a comfortable and pleasant stay.
Some storage for clothes would have been helpful. If we had been using the second room for children we could not have kept our suitcases on the beds and lifting them each day would have been very difficult. I am sure a couple of sturdy chests of drawers could have been placed in the room instead of the shelves and a couple of hooks on a wall with coat hangers so a dress or a suit could be hung up would be sufficient. An eaves room is warm and a little refrigerator would have been a life changer to keep the bottles of water provided cold. As an elderly couple we did find using the stairs each day without a bannister rail challenging. In future I would request a ground floor room. The food was good but a little variety day to day on the menu would have been nice. I would have preferred to have a fresh fruit salad available at breakfast rather than whole apples and bananas.
Lovely overnight stay , lovely food, friendly staff .
Nothing
Lovely room, amazing breakfast, wonderful staff, fabulous hotel.
Good quality plenty of choice
lovely building, helpful friendly staff, comfy rooms and great breakfast options plus evening meal was tasty and well cooked and presented.
Everything, comfortable room and great staff
It's a really minor thing, I had broken my toe the day before we arrived, we were in an upstairs room which was no problem, but the first part of the stairs has no banister rail, I had to use the wall moulding to hold on to.
Location was lovely, nice and quiet
WiFi was awful. Shower holder didn't work so shower head kept slipping down the pole. Net curtain was torn. TV reception was not good. Food was ok but was overpriced.
A lovely village pub in a great location, with super friendly staff and owner. The room was comfortable and clean, with a huge double bed. The breakfast and evening food was good. I also loved the whole atmosphere and decor of the place.
Personally I would have preferred a shower to a bath with shower attachment.
Lovely country pub. Brilliant breakfast, attentive staff.
We stayed during a heatwave and no air con was available.
Pretty basic. Cost a bit too high.
The general fabric of the property could be better.
