Great location, just a short walk from the beach. Very friendly hosts with good sense of humor.
Nothing!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great location. Near the beach but still quiet. Just a few steps from the dive shop. There’s a nice little porch upstairs to hang out and read or hang laundry to dry. Downstairs is a bar & restaurant, tho it was closed during my stay as the owner was out of town. Good value for the money.
No air conditioning, but it did have an oscillating fan which was surprisingly enough overnight. And like most stays on the islands the showers are cold water only (which can feel good on a hot day).
Great spot
No ceilings, so whatever anyone else is doing u will hear . Not a great nights sleep tbh .
Pretty close to the beach and the bed was comfortable. Mosquito net provided. Early check in was provided which was nice and kettle as well so that we could do coffee in the morning
- when it rains heavily outside, some water drops gets into the room (specially the bed). As it was raining when we were there we would wake up in the middle of the night with water in our face - there’s no hot water - you cannot wear shoes upstairs, however there was sand in the upstairs floor as well as a little poop in the middle of the corridor (it wasn’t cleaned for the duration of our stay)
Great location and super friendly staff! They have a free water refill station, which I really appreciated.
You’re on an island so the mosquitoes can be a bit pesky. Wear mosquito repellent (even at night/while sleeping)
A lovely place that we really enjoyed. Owner is lovely and the dumpling course is a must-do!!
Loved the location and the bed was very comfy!
Very basic room but this is reflected in the price so it’s fine !
Super sweet little guesthouse, really nice vibe to the place and staff were all super friendly!
Nothing!
Superfriendly stuff, amazing food, comfy beds
The upstairs rooms lack a bit of privacy
Nice hosts. Cool mural. Good food.
Nowhere to comfortably chill in a common space.
Mayla and Ian have made a great place here. We had a room on the ground floor which was really nice. We loved Bruno (the cat) and all the advice and activities they recommended to us. One thing you have to do is mayla’s dumpling making class it’s amazing. Also eat there every night if you wish (I wish I had). Amazing stay would definitely book here again.
Great facilities, incredible location and the friendliness staff and people, even a very lovely cat called Bruno, comfortable beds with mosquito nets and good food!! We rented kayaks from one of the shops by the beach and spent a day on the small island opposite and another day we went on a beautiful walk across the island to another remote beach, seeing hornbills and monkeys! I can not wait to come back
Everything was perfect, was devastated when we had to leave
Friendly staff with useful advice about the surroundings. Attached restaurant has tasty alternatives for Khmer food. Shared second floor balcony was great. Free earplugs for the noise. Clean bathrooms. Cat was cute.
Ground floor is full concrete and even daytime it is needed to put light on just to see enough in the room. Long enough cables needed to recharge since the sockets are placed high. In the ground floor noise enters from every direction. Seemed like the second floor rooms are more lit and cozy with wooden floor, maybe less noise too :)
Cheap, good location, comfy bed,
Mosquitos, a bit noisy and a dead cockroach outside door
Very friendly owner (and cat, Bruno), nice chill out area, and a good location a couple minutes walk from the beach.
Nice shared balcony where you can sit and hang your clothes.
Shared toilets were very dirty and there was no hot water. I'm pretty sure in the 4 days of my stay they were never cleaned. You could hear everything, every noise and smell from the house, the restaurant and the street, but of course this is not the owners fault and earplugs were provided.
Great value for the price, thanks for offering an affordable place in this paradise! Shared bathrooms were clean. Might be a bit louder in the late evening/early night but they provide good earplugs. Dumplings and sandwiches in the restaurant are great as well. Bed with mosquito net worked well. Good fan. I think staying on the upper level is better :)
Steep stairs are spooky :D
Cute place , nice location , lovely dumplings
A bit noisy with the school opposite
Mela is an amazing host at this guesthouse. She thinks of everything for the customers, and she is a great cook. Mela is also super helpful answering questions and helping with anything you need.
The host is lovely and sweet! The rooms are very clean, they come with a fluffy towel and a nice sheet. It's a short walk down to the pier and beach. I thought the mosquito net worked great and didn't get any bites in the night. Would love to stay again!
Everything! It was a lovely stay. Everything matches the description so don’t expect luxury but expect the best service and a great vibe. The dumplings are THAT good.
I can confirm the dumplings are DELICIOUS. The hosts are also super nice and down to earth
Sometimes the water pressure was a little low, but hey your on island time no rush!
The hosts were super friendly and chatty, in a lovely location only about 3 min walk from the beach or 15 min to the secluded nearby beach. Toilets and showers were clean and well stocked. The whole island lost power between 9am-12pm but this was not their fault. The dumplings were very tasty be sure to try. Also mosquito nets on the bed was a life saver as the air was filled with bugs in the area. Their cat Bruno was very cute too!
The bed was rather uncomfortable but everything else was perfect really
Great location and really friendly hosts. The dumplings are amazing!
Lovely place with lovely people and lovely dumplings.
Great location and facilities! Brilliant hosts, accommodating and made you feel at home!
Very friendly couple, free filtered water
Nil
Great location and provide free filtered tap water. Nice good especially the dumplings!
Shared bathroom wasn’t the greatest - lots of mosquitoes and not very clean. Owners didn’t seem to ever be there and took a day off without informing us. Would’ve been helpful to know that nothing would be open including restaurants etc! (think this was due to a wedding which closed off the whole of M’py bay).
No WiFi
One of the best places I have ever stayed!!!! Mela and Ian all the most amazing people!! So friendly and helpful!! You feel like you are visiting friends when you are staying here!! WAIT!! There is more!! Mela makes the best dumplings I ever had!! So good I had them for every dinner! Thank you so much!! 🌟🙏🏻
The staff are so lovely and very helpful. The food is AMAZING defo recommended and they have cheap drinks too!
Mela and Ian are super friendly hosts. They gave me a lot of suggestions where to eat, what to do and where to go on the island. I ended up hanging out with them at their bar at night. There was an incident with my room‘s window and Ian had fixed it in less than an hour. I highly recommend them :)
Lovely people running it. Close to the beach, shops etc. Restaurant and bar at property. Filtered water on tap. Very welcoming atmosphere. Beautiful building architecture, furnishings and plants.
Can be noisy and night time due to nearby bars
12/10 would stay here again! My partner and I stayed here for 6 nights and it truly felt like our home away from home. The location was perfect; a two minute walk to the beach and is near bars/restaurants. The staff/owners are the kindest people and put in a lot of care to ensure that their guests are comfortable. Our biggest regret about the whole trip was that we never ordered Mela's famous dumplings! We know better for next time though. Cannot recommend enough!

Mela and Ian are excellent hosts, very sweet and attentive. The guesthouse is located on a quieter part of the village but still very close to the beach and everything else around. The rooms are simple, yet very comfortable. They serve some amazing dumplings, some of the best that I have ever eaten, and they are also very cheap. I've really enjoyed my stay and am looking forward to come back someday.
I really enjoyed my stay at Macondo! The owners, Ian and Mela, are super friendly and give great recommendations on what to do in M'pai Bay. The accommodation is located in the middle of the village, and only a 10 minute walk to the beach. The room was spacious, the mattress was very comfortable and I really liked that the accommodation is a traditional wooden house giving an authentic feel. The shared balcony is also very nice to relax and read a book. When you stay at Macondo don't forget to try Mela's amazing dumplings - they're one of the best ones I've had!
Best value stay on the island. Owners are lovely and so helpful, the room and clean and comfortable. The vegan dumplings are also delicious.
Good and comfortable bed with clean sheets, efficient and well-positioned fan, proper mosquito net, enough space for hanging wet towels and swimwear after beachlife. Common areas will look good after they are finished and we also stayed there to play some games etc and were able to have our own food and drinks as well (hope it stays that way = budget option). Free filtered drinking water (hope it stays that way too). Helpful owners and lovely cat!
Not the cleanest, I didn’t see the bathrooms being cleaned during our stay at all and the fan in our room was dirty (makes the air quality worse). Only cold water in the shower (didn’t bother us). Construction work/ reno still ongoing and all the materials everywhere in the common areas - will look good when they slowly get the job done. Some sounds from the streets in the evening and morning (rooster) but quiet at night.
Macondo is in a great location, close to the beach and amongst all the bars and restaurants. The couple that run the place are nice too
Unfortunately we came when they were doing work on the property. It would have been nice to know this before hand so we could have booked somewhere else as “the little jobs” they were doing lasted all of our 4 day stay. The whole place was a bit of a building site and work started early in the morning and lasted all day. So we couldn’t use the communal area as it was covered in dust and tools. The general cleanliness of the place wasn’t great - I don’t think the bathroom was cleaned once whilst we were there. It was all very disruptive and not the relaxing environment we wanted for our stay. Pretty disappointing to have paid full price for a place that’s still in progress.
Mela and Ian are wonderful people and great hosts, we stayed at Macondo for 5 nights but could’ve easily stayed longer. Macondo is a stones throw away from the beach and pier, close to local amenities and eateries. The room was great and made for such a comfortable stay. The community of M’pai Bay is unique to the islands of Cambodia and we really felt a part of it even if for a short time. We loved it here, we couldn’t recommend Macondo enough.
Some renovation work currently underway, we’re just sad we won’t get to see it when it’s finished!
the owner is a beautiful nice-going Chinese lady with good cooking of Chinese dumplings.she also help me printing and lending me slippers. Her USA husband is also very nice and zealous to help me. Very appreciate her considerated hospitality. The one person big bed fan room is low price but big, silent, clean and bed is soft. also very few mosquitoes. whole place is just remodeled in an antique decorations with this couple's love and care. Worth the penny and VERY recommend..
The hosts were very accommodating and friendly. We stayed on two separate occasions and both times they let us extend our stay until we were ready to leave.
It wasn't the cleanest but the place is still under construction so that's understandable.
Super friendly owners and staff, comfy rooms, free drinking water, nice chill out area out the front, would love to come back!
The rooms are rustic with very comfortable beds and a well positioned fan
no wifi, but the business is new so I’m sure that will come
