Vilma's Homestay is the perfect location for visiting the Maligcong Rice Terraces. It's stunning. The rooms, shared kitchen space were beautiful. Very bright and airy with lovely wood furnishings. The bathroom was large; water was hot; toilet paper included. It couldn't have suited our needs better. Perfect!! Vilma is a lovely host- very kind and gracious and we opted to pay extra for home cooked meals that were nourishing and delicious.
Nothing. I loved everything about the property.
The Vilma's place is very simple, but there is everything you need. Of course if you are looking for luxury place, it's not for you. But the most important thing is that you are among locals so you can see the way the people leave there. And Vilma is extremely nice, helpful and warmhearted. We were a family of six and she was cooking for us every day great food. Every morning the coffee was waiting and then during the day she was preparing delicious meals. She also helped to organize the guide for early morning trekking for the sunset and she did the laundry for us. We appreciated a lot everything. Thank you, Vilma for your kindness!!!
Nothing, all was perfect!
Vilma Homestay have excellent and spacious rooms, the must-have water heater, a kitchen to try cooking some local produce, a quiet and very peaceful neighborhood, and the hospitality giving you the feeling of you coming home to your parents/ grandparents home. Ate Vilma prepared simple yet healthily delicious local dishes that I appreciate a lot as a tourist.
None so far. The homestay gave me the overall Maligcong vibe and exceeds my expectations. The only thing I didn't like is the fact that I only have 4 days to spare and see the place. I should have extended my stay.
Great. Vilma has a big heart
Porte fermée. Pas de réponse au téléphone. En bout de chemin, bout de monde....nous sommes répartis.
The beds were just right. Quiet unique location. Did the job for our group of 10
Not really a dislike. But the host didn't seem to have our reservations for all of us.... group of 10 with 3 different reservations. But it was not a problem. She and her family had the rooms made up and ready for us in 15 minutes.
Host accommodating and listen to your needs , if as able too.
Washing machine to wash clothes
Vilma's homestay was my best and favorite accommodation in the Philippines. Vilma is so nice, she really makes it feel like home. She's a great cook as well and can prepare meals for you at a very reasonable price. She will make everything for you to enjoy your stay. You have your own guest house where everything is so comfortable and brand new, cute and cosy wooden furniture, 2 balconies overlooking ricefields 😍 (picture 1 view from the doorstep) If you are looking for peace, quiet, beautiful landscapes and good food -->> it's the place for you! Malingcong should DEFINITELY be on your list to visit, amazing ricefields that are every bit as good as Banaue's. But there you will have the chance to discover an untouched nature and authentic charming villages. The view from Mt Kupapey is stunning, and was my favorite in all of Luzon (picture 2), go there for sunrise. All in all, I highly recommend this underrated barangay. If I come back one day to the Philippines I will definitely be back in Malingcong and at Vilma's. Bonus : on my hikes the cute dogs from the house followed, it was so nice.
NOTHING
Loved everything, the stay, the village and most of all to meet Vilma. She is a great human being and an amazing host. Thank you and we really wish to come back!
I had such a wonderful stay at Vilma's Homestay. The view is absolutely unbeatable. Vilma is such a lovely person and an excellent cook. I really enjoyed the homecooked meals while I was there! The place was very clean and had everything I needed. I also loved the cats and dogs roaming around. There is such a homely atmosphere. I would highly recommend staying here!
Located far away from everything with a beautiful mountain view and perfect for hikes to mountain and nearby isolated villages. Very clean.
On weekends dogs might be making noise as hikers are crossing the village during the night.
Vilma is super nice. upon arrival she made us some dinner and tea. that was so nice of her. The view is great and the Maligcong terraces close by. We had to skip them because of Ofel. if you drive yourself to Vilma's, she has a great and safe place to park!
Th seating area was not so comfortable. Ee had a long and challenging drive (because of the typhoons) and wanted to chill a bit before another lang drive. our Dutch long limbs couldnt find a comfortable space to rekax.
Host was very accomodating. We were not aware that place was very isolated and had only 1 small sari sari store. There were no place to eat at and host was quick to offer us what she had-lot of rice, vegetable fritters and fried eggs. She also had enough to prepare us dinner. Meals were 200 pesos per person which was reasonable.
None was mentioned about having to deal with all sorts of insects. Windows did not have screens. No fan available. Room was hot with no breeze coming in. We had to close window due to all insects and mosquitoes coming in. Bathroom had opening at top to share its light source onto outdoor hall way and so you take shower with whatever creatures light attracts. Best to shower and do your business in the daytime.
Just needs a little mosquito management, screens on windows or electric fan
Vilma's place was very clean, comfortable and relaxing. Vilma was very welcoming and friendly and provided us with many tasty local dishes as well as plentiful tea and coffee. The location provided great opportunities to meet with the locals and to experience the Malicong rice terraces during the cool of the early morning or in the morning.
No complaints.
Vilma's place is at the exact start of the trails to the rice terraces and up Mt Kupapey, so the location couldn't be better. There's a convenience store of sorts about 50m up the road back towards town. They sell e.g. ramen noodles which comes in handy when Vilma hasn't had time to cook. Staying here sure beats staying in Bontoc if you're here to see the rice terraces. I loved the tiny "library" of books to read while laying in one of the hammocks.
I'm not sure, given the (town's) circumstances, that the place could have been better, but that doesn't mean it's "wonderful". There's no wifi and your sim card won't work. The toilets don't flush (use the buckets). The bed is a 2-inch piece of foam, which really is actually fine if you like hard beds. The place really is clean - Vilma is always cleaning! - but there are still ants, roaches, spiders etc. Her dogs and cats will be up in your face while you try to eat. Even so, I'm willing to bet this is the very best place to stay in Favuyan. I write the above only so that people have realistic expectations.
Vilma's cuisine is a real plus (and very affordable). Perfect location to explore the rice terrasses.
A bitbof miscommunication when I arrived (the jeepney was delayed so Vilma thought I would come later and was not here when I showed up, so I had to wait some time). But overall not her fault, so all is good, just make sure to say what time you will arrive.
We had a perfect time at Vilma's Homestay. Vilma is a perfect host. Friendly, helpful and trustworthy. She cooked vegetarian dishes for us, which were delicious. She also organized hiking tours for us to Malicgong and Mainit. The room was really cozy. We had a wonderful time, would to book again and can highly recommend the accommodation.
Spotless. Adventure. Super friendly locals. Rice terrace walking
The location was amazing, right by the rice terraces. Home cooked food and plenty of coffee along with help and advice. Vilma really looks after you during your stay and makes you feel welcome. Thanks, Vilma - you're a star.
Barking dogs at night, but you can't blame the homestay for that. Just take some ear plugs.
The owner is very welcoming and friendly... By the way the adobo is so good 👍
The road leading to the place
Vilma is accommodating and friendly. Bedrooms and comfort rooms are clean. And you can request cooked food. Fresh coffee is always available Vilma is the best host..it will make your stay very comfortable Two great dogs too. Tyson and bugtong
The road uphill are narrow
Staying at Vilma's was the highlight of my trip in the Philippines. I did not find the location difficult to reach as the locals in Bontoc showed me where I could find the jeepney to Maligcong (just in front of Pines Kitchenette and Inn) which took no more than 30 minutes to arrive right in front of the homestay, just expect to wait until it gets full to leave and be aware that there are no jeepneys after 4-5pm. I think it's better not to be in a rush to enjoy the tranquility, authenticity of the area and the friendliness of the locals. The room was comfortable and super clean, as well as the common areas (indoor/outdoor) and bathrooms/toilets. Vilma is truly kind and thoughtful and will make sure you have enough coffee/herbal tea when you are around. I really enjoyed being able to have my meals with her and her family for a small extra. The presence of dogs and cats was also great fun. If you enjoy walking, it's possible to climb Mt Kupapey (beautiful sunrise), Mt Fato and to walk along the beautiful rice fields to reach nearby villages (eg Favarey). I am very grateful I could meet this lovely local family and found this authentic and beautiful countryside area. If you are not demanding, are open minded, adaptable and truly enjoy tranquility, nature and authenticity, then I would highly recommend staying here.
The host was very nice and helpful. She cooked us food, as there were no options available up in the hill. We just booked it an hour before getting there as we were coming from Whang-ods village. The facilities were super clean. The double bed was surprisingly comfy.
There were not a lot of options through this app and others. All places were all in the mountain when you search for places to stay in Bontoc. So it is a 25 min drive from the center. Also since we just booked it an hour before check in. The host wasnt aware of our arrival hence gave us a room that she cleaned up and prepared right away. Then later she found out thay we booked a specific room. It was also my fault for not informing her which room we booked but I forgot so I will not fault her on the mixup when I should had said something and told her about the chosen room. Its all good though, something I should be more aware of and know which room I booked.
Vilma welcomes with a warm smile and quiet hospitality. We had meals provided by Vilma and they were good. The location is great, it's at the end of the road where the Jeepney drops off, so you can't get lost. It's easy to access the beautiful rice terraces from there and we enjoyed a hike (unguided) to Favarey where the owner of the store told us about local goings on while we drank a cola each. Vilma's homestay is kept exceptionally clean. My phone service (Globe) was better here than in town. There's a little store just up the road for a beer or ice-cream.
The beds are typical but we improved that by asking Vilma for a 2nd mattress.
Everything fits in perfectly with the character of the location. Vilma is an amazing host and so nice and friendly.
Village outside of bontoc, was a very cool place to visit. Vilma is a great host. :) Dogs are cute Perfect place to relax or go for a walk in the rice terrace
Nanay Vilma was so accomodating. Loved the toilet and showers. Food was great- homecooked by nanay, location is so close to the beautiful rice terraces and Mt Kupapey. Nanay can arrange/contact tours for you. This homestay is giving very homey vibes. Would recommend!
Limited jeep times going to town, was quite far to reach but definitely worth the hassle.
It felt like a genuine homestay allowing you to gain a better understanding of how people live in this part of Luzon. Vilma was very friendly and helpful, arranging local guides to facilitate visiting the surrounding countryside and rice terraces. Everything is very clean and good meals are provided upon request for very reasonable rates. It's located immediately alongside the start/end of the steep jeepney ride up from Bontoc.I really enjoyed my stay and would thoroughly recommend Vilma's Homestay.
Nothing. No internet, not even 4G anywhere in Maligcong, if you have a SMART SIM (although GLOBO SIM does pick up a signal hence it's used by the locals), however this was not a problem for a few days stay.
We loved our stay here! Thanks to Vilma we really felt at home, she is really caring, we didn't miss anything. She also cooks really great food and can offer vegetarian option. The jeepney from Bontoc (4 per day, we took one at 11h30) stops just in front of the house. From there you can hike to another village (Mainit) or walk across beautiful Maligcong rice terraces Thank you again Vilma, take care!
Vilma is very friendly, the food she prepared us delicious. The facilities are very nice, e.g. the shower had hot water and the bed was comfy.
extremely clean and welcoming stay in a beautiful high altitude hamlet just outside Bontoc Vilma couldn’t be more kind, helpful and accommodating The place is ideal for self catering with a sari sari shop nearby for basic stuff Good location for walking from
just would have liked to stay longer
This homestay is literally 20 meters from the rice terraces. If you walk 5 minutes you are in the middle of it. You can make fantastic hikes, also up the mountain with beautiful views. Vilma is the best and most welcoming host we had in the philippines, she is really taking care of you! The room is small but the house is spotless, good warm shower (there are enough showers/toilets), coffee/tea during the day and the meals are really great for a very friendly price. There is a terrace to sit and just enjoy the quiet environment. Be aware there is only a very small shop around, so bring whatever you need from Bontoc. The homestay can be reached easily with a jeepney, just a 30 minutes ride, which depart 4 times a day from the central market (side street) in Bontoc. You will be dropped in front of the house!
Vilma is a wonderful lady. Very attentive. The space is simple and clean. 30 mtrs from the terraces. Great place to spend a couple quite days
vilma was so welcoming - it’s a big comfortable space with a indoor bathroom and shower with a garden view over the valley. vilma provided us with non stop free tea and coffee and cooked us the loveliest meal and breakfasts. In the morning Vilma was up early to direct us to a very pleasant walk around the rice fields Vilma is so happy to help with all your questions. I hope lots more tourists start to visit this area again to help their local economy and experience the beautiful views .
note that there’s no wifi and reception for Philippines sim is also limited - it was nice to be disconnected for a while! the only way to reach the property is by a jeepney from Bontoc - they are a really infrequent only 2 in the morning and a couple in the afternoon - if you arrive in Bontoc after about 5pm you will have to overnight there and wait for the morning jeepney to Vilmas.
The hospitality was superb. We really felt at home, we really had home vibes. The tea and coffee was amazing. Home cook food by manang Vilma was great. The whole house was tidy and clean..it was a great experience at Vilma homestay.👍☺️
Best homestay we've been! Vilma is such a lovely and caring person, she cooked us 3 meals a day (breakfast at 5:45 am) and her dog Tyson guided us through the rice terraces. Comfy bed, nice little room, beautiful terrace to enjoy coffee and really good food. Love to visit her and her homestay again!
Vilma is a great host. She is super nice. Always smiling. Always helping. She even cooked meals for us and she is a fantastic cook.
The place is far. Data signal is erratic.
ate wilma is very accommodating. we enjoyed our stay there .. we love the native rice ate wilma prepared for us and we even take home our left over of the rice. lol…
everything is good.. worth the uphill and winding road to reach the property
Comfortable bed in a beautiful wooden newly renovated room Warm shower Always clean bathroom Beautiful views Many activities around Endless coffee Delicious breakfasts and dinners cooked by Ms. Vilma Rice terraces around (no matter when you arrive, they all harvest in different months so you will always find green ones) This was by far the best homestay l have ever been to, Vilma is lovely and friendly and I felt at home immediately upon arrival. I stayed for 3 nights and I honestly have to say that Maligcong has so much to offer - walks along the rice terraces to other villages, day trips to Sagada, climbing Mt Kupapey or other places for sunrise... Maligcong is a perfect base spot for visiting the Mountain Province and I really recommend coming here and staying at Vilma's for multiple nights, you will get a super nice local experience and will definitely love coming back. Thank you Vilma!
The place is really clean. It’s the closest homestay going to Mt. Kufafey and to the scenic terraces.
If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place, this is the place to go! Vilma is adorable, the rooms, in a small house reserved for guests, are impeccable, and the food excellent!
