The worst night we've ever had in a hotel. Once we had managed to work the fiddly lock to get into the room, we were greeted with hideous brown/beige walls and ceiling. The mattress was lumpy and sloped towards the floor so we kept sliding out. Considering the building was over 400 years old, we couldnt believe how loud the noise was from other guests rooms and from people passing our room, with the corridor doors loudly banging every time someone passed through them . Furthermore, the bed base was torn and ripped and the shower had sealant peeling away from the shower tray. And the TV was so poorly positioned it was unwatchable from the bed. In the restaurant the waiter was also the barman i.e. they were understaffed .. we had to wait 10 minutes to be given a table and 45 minutes for our food to arrive. We paid a more than average price for a hotel room and service that was well below average.

Been here before and came back because of location is spectacular. We done a wee Tarbet circular boat trip on £17 each. The rooms are fresh and clean. The dinner was lovely i had the tomato & basil soup for starter and then the fish pie it was 10/10.

The breakfast was so disappointing the scrambled egg was green in centre the potato scone was soggy look & bacon was very fatty & the square sausage was disgusting as being at this hotel previous the breakfast has definitely went downhill. Also disappointing to hear its only opened seasonal now and closed at the new year when 2 years ago we stayed here for the bells and joined in on the party we had a great wee night. Also the heater for your towel rail shined in our eyes all night bright blue light very annoying.

Our first room was not clean . The receptionist kindly moved us to another room , which was slightly better. The manager should check the window sills and around bedroom furniture for dust , carpets not hoovered .

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I must praise a member of the reception team, Morag who was very understanding and helpful in a exceptional way and should be highly commended. The location overlooking Loch Long was superb. The meals were good but not outstanding, but all in very good value.

It was cold in the hotel. It didn't feel like the heat was on and no fireplace. It was hard that the restaurant was only open for certain hours of the day.

The lobby and staircases smelled damp. Poor breakfast. Very little choice on the hot buffet. No mushrooms fried eggs or tomatoes and the bacon was pale and swimming in water. Shower difficult to get working at the right temperature. Washbasin chipped and cracked, room bland. Evening meal much overpriced and poor quality. Other than reception, service was underwhelming. Paid a lot for the room and it was overall very disappointing.

Friendly staff at check-in and one bloke behind the bar (tall, friendly red-haired fella) was super helpful and friendly (he was the only one unfortunately). There was plenty of parking and the location is superb. It's a short walk from the lake shore and the next morning's drive to Glasgow airport was a doddle.

The place is dated, and you can see that they started upgrading bits like the restaurant and front of house, but the hallways, room and the lift, can definitely do with an upgrade. The service in the restaurant wasn't great, but they had a wedding on, so perhaps they were just understaffed. The food was completely overpriced. A steak dinner for two (with starters) came to £130, which is the same we paid for a truly unforgettable 3-course meal the previous night at a four star hotel in the Highlands.

Staff excellent, location very picturesque, hotel interior very nice corridors and bedrooms upstairs not as good as downstairs, which was really very nice and in keeping with the grand exterior.

The receptionist was not welcoming. We got a room at the top floor above the kitchen exhaust ventilation, facing garbage bins and very messy back side, not at all nice as the front. Loud, smelly.... The room seemed like a spare room. They had a wedding party booked in, and this was spare. The shower was nonfunctional. Staff repaired it after a 20-minute plumbing job at midnight. Well done for the repair, but no apologies or any refund was provided for the inconvenience. No hair dryer, single bed cabinet, for twin bedroom... all in all, not a four star hotel accommodation. I am sure the rest of the rooms were better, but it is not fair to rent rooms like this at the four star hotel advert and price.

A lovely old hotel renovated to suit modern needs and a beautiful location central to Loch Lomond. The Tarbet exudes old world charm with attentive staff and good menu.

Good shower, clean room, comfortable bed

The evening meal was really bad. It was the worst value for money meal we’ve had in years. Huge disappointment for excited and hungry diners. Really let the place down. Complained but absolutely nothing was done to improve things. Just met with opposition rather than resolution. If you have to stay here, eat somewhere else would be my advice.

Beautiful location…staff were fabulous- upgraded to a room with a view . Bed was comfortable.

Segurament el pitjor hotel on he estat mai. Instal·lacions antigues i gens funcionals. Corredors llargs, amb escales i multitud de portes, inclús el terra inclinat en alguns trams. L'ascensor mereix una menció especial, és cosa de veure. Habitacions antigues, desmillorades i molt molt brutes (parets, armaris, làmpares). Teranyines i aranyes per totes bandes. I per les picades que ens han sortit al la pell, sospitem que a la moqueta devia haver altres insectes... Bany molt petit, ni tan sols pots obrir la mampara de la dutxa per a sortir perquè topa amb el WC. Servei de neteja de les habitacions inexistent: varem estar dos nits i no ens van fer les habitacions (ni llits, ni banys, ni tovalloles ni res, allí no va entrar ningú a arreglar res). Desdejuni molt roin. Els plats i els coberts estàn tots bruts, no hi tenen quasi varietat de menjar, només et serveixen cafè, ni tan sols et trauen llet calenta si la demanes. El soroll d'un extractor dels salons de la planta baixa s'escoltava tota la nit. Tot açò amb un preu molt elevat. No recomanable..

Stunning building on the shore of Loch Lomond. Easy parking. Good communication and welcoming staff. Dining room has views over the lake; dinner and breakfast really good. Comfortable room. Very happy.

Staff were clearly not well trained. Dinner was lukewarm warm. The hotel clearly could not manage a wedding party in parallel with other guests.

Wir hatten vermutlich einfach Pech. Wir hatten den Tisch mit Reservierung 19.15h erhalten. Der Tisch war schmutzig, wurde aber sofort gereinigt. Das Essen wurde 20.40h serviert. Das Essen war gut aber nicht speziell. Es wirkte alles etwas chaotisch, vermutlich bedingt durch die anwesende Gesellschaft. Das Frühstück war sehr gut, leider das Geschirr schmutzig. Wurde aber problemlos ausgetauscht. Der Preis war hoch und im Vergleich hatten wir hier das schlechteste Preisleistungsverhältnis vom Zimmer während unserer Reise. Das Duvet definitiv zu klein.

Absolutely stunning in a beautiful location. The view of the loch was next level and I will most definitely come back and hopefully be put in the same room! 😁 We ended up extending our stay after the first night because it was just so nice. Lovely big room, high ceilings, the view was beautiful, really friendly staff on reception. Highly recommend as it's nice and central for the drive to Glencoe too.

Zimmerausstattung etwas spärlich (Superior Doppelzimmer) - keine Kofferablage, kleines Bett. Frühstücksbüffett wird nicht automatisch aufgefüllt, nur auf Nachfrage.

It’s your staff, specifically Morag and Michelle at the reception desk, Declan, Bill, and the young lady whose name we did not get were awesome in the bar and dining areas. All of the staff made us feel so welcome and made our visit so much fun and truly memorable. We truly hope they realize how much they impact the lives of their guests

We cannot think of a single thing that we didn’t like other than having to leave.

The location for our group of motorists touring around the area was great. The staff very pleasant and efficient.

Despite having pre-ordered our food some items were not available. Even at breakfast eggs were in short supply. Diabled parking was in short supply. The lift was difficult as there were stairs to and from it.

My second visit to The Tarbet and a wonderful experience it was again too. A characterful and very well-run hotel with lovely staff and an excellent bar and restaurant. Ticks every box for me. See you again for sure.

Cold room couldn’t get heater till 10.30pm, told receptionist 4 times , tiny bathroom, broken shower , broken heated towel rail, no phone to inform receptionist, wedding on so couldn’t use dining room , staff preoccupied, food dreadful,ask to speak to manager , he refused, ask for room refund , wouldn’t recommend

Beim Frühstück fehlten viele Dinge wie Toast, Butter, Käse… das Personal wirkte überfordert. Das Zimmer wurde tagsüber nicht gemacht.

A szoba elég régimódi, nem működött a fűtés, nem volt rendes víznyomás sem.

The property had easy access and the lift was in order which was a great help. The room was comfortable enough and staff helped by putting an extra chair in the room.

We felt that there was insufficient staff on the cleaning facilities as concerning sanitary matters we felt we had to dispose of them ourselves in the box in the ladies toilet downstairs also my wife felt it created an embarrassing situation. We also had to put wet towels outside the room door Prior to receiving replacements.

L alarme s est déclenchée à 2 heures du matin obligeant tous les clients de l hôtel à sortir. Nous avons eu aucune explication du personnel. L alarme s était également plusieurs fois déjà déclenchée dans l après midi. Très désagréable. Notre chambre fuyait par ailleurs par le plafond.

Tolle Lage, super Restaurant

Traditional historic hotel recently refurbished in prime position over looking Loch Lonond. Our room had a lovely view over the loch. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming to us and our dog Freddy. We had a good evening meal too in the bar and the buffet breakfast. Ample parking behind the hôtel. We liked the ethos of the hôtel with it’s profit sharing contract with staff who work over 12 months and the support to the manorview foundation in actions to tackle poverty.

The hotel can feel a little dark, but this is mainly due to it’s age and style.

The room was a good size, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast was pleasant with a good selection.

For the price you pay to stay here, I feel the property is highly overpriced. While the room was spacious, the beds were uncomfortable, the carpet was quite dirty, and there was peeling paint on the walls. There was also no room cleaning during our stay. Overall, the property really needs some TLC and updating to justify the price being charged per night. We also had a disappointing experience at the hotel restaurant. We ordered our mains and waited over 45 minutes for them to arrive, only to be served a different meal than what we had ordered. When we asked the staff about it, we were told that the kitchen was low on supplies and they had to do the best with what they had available. Had we been told this when ordering, we would have happily chosen something different. Instead, we were served a sub-par meal and charged the exact same price. For the price of the stay and the overall experience, we expected a much higher standard.

The room was bright and airy and the hotel is in a fantastic location. Declan was very helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

The hotel had staffing issues which left one poor member of staff to try and cope with the entire breakfast service single handed. This meant no tea or coffee, no juice and no glasses to put it in, the hot breakfast was completely missing, no bread for toast with no plates to put it on. Guests began looking in cupboards themselves to try and find things. Evening service didn’t prove much better. One member of our party of five was overlooked and only got his meal when we had all finished. His fries had been served with our meal so were completely cold and not replaced. Our last night we arrived at the restaurant to be met by James who complained that we hadn’t been told to prebook our meal. So we had something simple, pizza to share, he handed us five side plate, four of which were dirty. He replaced them saying that’s fine. Surely the hotel has better standards than handing out dirty dishes.

Echt niks was goed. Zwaar verouderd en verwaaarloosd. Voor belachelijke prijzen.

Bedden waren smal en oncomfortabel, kamer was erg vies (intense stank van oude vloerbedekking). Inrichting erg armoedig, niks aan de muur en sterk verouderd en verwaarloosd. Het was net een schuur met 2 bedden, een kast en tv. Stopcontacten zaten op rare plek laag op de vloer. Raam zat vol met vogelpoep, vloeren kraakte bij elke stap zo erg dat het net leek alsof je bij elke stap een scheet liet. Lamp deed t niet. Badkamer was smerig, afgetakeld en je kon bijna niet bij de wastafel. Personeel was niet bezig met de klantenservice maar met regels. We zijn zo snel als we konden de volgende dag vertrokken.

The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great and the outside of the building is impressive.

The hotel entrance, stairs and corridors smell unaired and damp. The endlessly long corridors are carpeted with really tacky, tasteless mock tartan and it all looks a bit uncared for. They couldn't provide an early breakfast for a quick departure to catch a ferry, and offered to exchange it for a packed lunch, which we accepted. The menu offered wraps - we were given sandwiches made with 2 slices of soggy white bread, which were disgusting.

Everything. It is not cheap but is an hystorical place, close to Loch Lomond and not very far to the train station. Not many places to eat around, but hotel restaurant is good and prices are fine.

The Receptionist was absent when we arrived, when she arrived at reception she complained about being overworked and was unpleasant and unhelpful. She told us we had no need to book dinner and could go in any time. When we went for dinner the staff - who were apologetic and helpful - told us there would be a 45 minute wait before we could order. We waited a while and then gave up and ate the snacks we had in our room. We saw about a dozen people being turned away in the time we were there. Breakfast is not served until eight o’clock and when we had it, it was poor quality. The drinks in the bar were basic - none of the more interesting beers or whiskies you would expect. Our room was on the second floor, up five flights of stairs. There is no warning of this on the website. I am an 82 year old and there was no offer of help with taking the luggage up these five flights of stairs nor even a word of sympathy from the receptionist.

Sembra quello della famiglia Addams. Colazione orribile acqua sporca al posto del caffè acqua colorata al posto dei succhi quantità modesta scelta solo tra te o caffè, nemmeno il latte e pochissime cose da mangiare. Si salva solo il personale poco ma cortese e rassegnato.

The location was ideal for our trip as it was very central. There's ample parking and it's good fun to have a drink and a game of pool in the evening.

It's very noisy being on the main road which you understand but more could be done to lessen this with the windows.Also delivery lorries pulling up under your window, dragging linen cages in at 6:30am isn't great. The beds are very uncomfortable, we never understand bouncy, sprung mattresses and both woke up sore.. The breakfast is ok, there's not a great selection of cereals and a fresh, cooked to order breakfast is much nicer than pre cooked and kept warm.

Clean and comfortable room in 'Scottish baronial' style hotel just over the road from the Loch and the waterbus jetty. Good wifi. Reasonable size for a single room.

The location in North Wales

We booked a deluxe river view room for 2 nights, which was confirmed by the hotel. We arrived after a long drive to find that the room wasn’t available as it had been let to someone who had phoned requesting the room. After some discussion we were offered the room for that night and move to another room the next night, which we accepted as it was late. We were offered 20% of evening meal for our trouble. When we went to pay for the meal, which wasn’t of a good standard, we were told we couldn’t have the discount as we had the original room we booked for 1 night. Another disappointment. We decided not to stay another night as the room offered for our 2nd night was over the boiler room, hot, noisy and had no river view. We were given our money back for the night we didn’t stay, but that in no way compensated for ruining our time away. We won’t be returning.

Staff were amazing

It was convenient for a one night stop. It was cleanish, but the bathroom needed attention. It is typical of a ‘pet friendly’ room. I understand that some people with animals are not great, but I always feel miffed that I’ve paid for something that is far worse than home. It wasn’t awful, but just ok.

It was tired and obviously everything was done on a budget. They didn’t have all the food on the menu although the hotel wasn’t busy.

Poor sub standard room, thought I had booked dinner b&b, turned it was room only, lake view was questionable. No safe in room no air conditioning,room not cleaned or service during my stay, service Im restaurant quaotic, shortage of staff. Check or bill wrong. Hot water took 10 minutes to run.
