The whole stay was brilliant. We had a meal there too and it was excellent and fairly priced.
Nothing to dislike at all
Good location, friendly helpful staff. Nice rooms and parking on site. Country pub style property with entertainment in the pub on 2 of our 3 night stay.
Our room could have been cleaner and had some maintenance issues.
Everything. Even the toilet roll was luxury.
Nothing.
Excellent stay, brilliant staff and the property was stunning
Lovely location and setting.
No warning from hotel until we arrived back at our room on the second night that there was a wedding and the pub was shut and the blaring music wouldn’t stop until 11 - right outside our door. Bathrooms could have been cleaner.
A lovely gastro pub with rooms in the quiet and picturesque village of Wendlebury. Staff are always super accommodating and the food is on the whole, excellent. Easy access to Bicester and the surrounding area, just off the M40 but feels like in the middle of nowhere - very quiet and tranquil.
It can get very busy and the food service can take a while. The Rooms can get very hot in the summer with no air con. The mattresses also seem yo have a pre-formed 'dip' in them which can be uncomfortable for those with bad backs.
Location
It’s too expensive and restaurant experience wasn’t great
Excellent facilities and very welcoming. Staff very attentive to detail and the needs of their customers.
Nothing.
Excellent cosy country pub with rooms. Huge comfy bed and very good shower. Large very clean room, and staff are friendly. Food also excellent.
Nothing
The food here is really good, it’s literally a few mins drive from Bicester Village, super quiet and relaxing
Pub ran out of beer which was a shock, although rooms are spotless they could use some maintenance as there were flickering lights, and loose shower fittings.
The rooms are beautiful, and the beer garden is lovely, the food in the restaurant was amazing, we also had a great breakfast
The only thing wrong with the room was it was far too hot, we did stay in the heatwave and there was a fan in the room, but it just didn’t cool the room at all. Air con would be a great addition as everything else about this place is absolutely great
All quite as one would like.
Alas we were staying during a particular period of hot weather so the 'enclosure' style of some of the rooms around the courtyard used for open-air dining meant that ventilation was only possible by having the door open! The sound system was still operating way past 11pm..... The portable fan in the room could not cope with the heat of course and the south-facing large windows (very nice normally) had not had their curtains drawn during the day so......A rather uncomfortable night.
Excellent location nice setting and nice room good breakfast
I loved ambience of the location, restaurant and the room was lovely. The staff were fantastic 10/10. They were welcoming, friendly, engaging and worked well with tourists and the locals. We had a meal in the restaurant and it was fantastic. Breakfast the next day was also great. For our room, we were on the ground floor with warm weather. Thankfully a good fan and a door that could open on a latch. We loved The Lion is dog friendly. We were missing our dogs and plenty of locals bringing theirs in with them. Parking was great too! Plenty for people staying and those visiting for meals. Before moving to USA we lived in a village locally and this brought back many happy memories. We stayed for our 3 day visit to Silverstone and felt this was the right location to remind us of our evenings in our previous local village pub/restaurant. The Lion did not disappoint and we would stay again.
The only criticism after our first night was the room above with kids running around at 6am. Spoke to reception (who were great) and found out they were checking out that day. No issues for the next two nights.
Good breakfast
Seemed expensive. Fixings in room needed tightening. Needs a bit of tlc
Location, friendly staff, dog friendly, very clean and quiet and comfortable.
The property is in a good, quiet location. It is beautiful inside with a large patio area at the back. The room we stayed in was in a separate annex facing the main building, our room was clean with a comfortable bed. The highlight of our visit was being served by Dot in the restaurant, she was exceptional, friendly, professional and helpful. She went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our meal. She is a credit to this establishment. We would stay here again.
We stayed on the hottest day of the year and there is no air conditioning, the fan provided was inadequate to cool the room, luckily we had our own fan with us which helped.
Location and accommodation was good, but dinner was a let down as the majority of both starter and main courses had run out at 8pm in the evening and wait between courses appeared slow as staff didn't ask if we required more drinks. Some of the staff appeared to be very young and in-experienced, which was a shame.
Awareness that we had no drinks whilst waiting for our meals, awareness that we had no cutlery on our table and awareness that the pepper grinders did not work on 3 of the tables we tried at both lunch and dinner.
Absolutely spot on
Lovely room, great position. Excellent meal in the restaurant with great attentive staff.
Just the breakfast being à la carte, no choice of cereal, croissants, toast.
Food, service and room all first class!
Nothing
Excellent breakfast
All was great!
Excellent breakfast and very comfortable room
Nothing
Beautiful rooms and pub. Food excellent. Breakfast v good.
Very good facilities and location
No air conditioning
Beautiful location
Staff very accommodating, comfy bed, excellent dinner and breakfast. Not complaints at all.
When outside the traffic noise from the M40 was noticeable but not enough to detract from an enjoyable stay.
Good location from the motorway and near the shopping village
Room was unlocked when we arrived, pillows wasn’t very comfy, poor bathroom fitting quality. Evening staff on check in wasn’t very hospitable.
After 22 hours of travelling from Australia, the Lion was like finding an oasis in the desert.
Lovely location, food was excellent as was the service. Full marks for that.
We had a ground floor super deluxe room. It was obvious it was a dog friendly room which we wouldn’t have chosen if we were given the option. Otherwise it had all the usual facilities, just that feint smell of dog , which was a shame.
Nice clean location good , good food
Good
room was perfect
all very good
Lovely countryside ambiance
Need a car
Everything loved the character and decor
Room 5 bathroom fan didn’t work that well and was very noisy
Lovely location, lovely traditional country pub feel
Nothing
Staff very friendly. The room we stayed is was lovely. The food is outstanding. Over all it was a lovely place
There was not one thing I could say I didn’t like
Lovely area the property is in
Found lingerie under our bed and our sheets were not changed when we asked for them to be. Hot tap in the bathrooms was also scalding hot, there was not in between so could not be used
Breakfast good staff at breakfast very accommodating spacious hotel
The shower fan was noisy
Clean tidy great staff fantastic food 10 out of 10
Absolute nothing first class
Comfortable room, with little garden area at the back to enjoy the fresh air and walk my Dogs
Always so lovely and comfortable.
like it all!
Lovely comfy rooms, very cosy. Good bed and tea and coffee facilities. Restaurant serves good food and bar is lovely.
Nothing much but if picky, breakfast starts a little late for me as I like to get up and out for work.
The room was great, no noise from other guests and bed was really comfortable
Breakfast didnt start till 8am so I was unable to have any before I left.
Very nice old village pub. Very friendly staff Excellent food
The general ambience of the pub was fantastic, such a wonderful experience and Matt couldn’t have done more for us. Thank you!
Nothing, it was all perfect
Lovely staff and really comfy beds, it's a beautiful property
Room was well equipped and comfortable, useful having parking near to rooms. Breakfast was good in very attractive rooms. Interesting building with lots of nooks and crannies.
Not keen on coffee pod machines.
Nothing stands out
The entertainment in the pub in the evening was a very strange choice, was very loud and did not fit with the pub feel. Expensive and not well maintained. For example no working light bulbs in ether bed side light or the desk
The rooms were well appointed and quiet. The staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast was simply delicious.
The mattress and pillows were too soft.
Very quaint and cosy
TV in room didnt work
Nice atmosphere, quality fittings & friendly staff and good parking.
Attention to detail in the room. No remote for the TV, blinking light in the bathroom extension connecting the table light, coffee maker and kettle was plugged into itself rather than the power. Took some time to work out what was wrong with it. Suggest a little check sheet for the chamber person to tick off on each rotation.
Great location just off the M40 and close to Bicester Village.
The room had just 2 coat hangers - a cheap wire hanger and a plastic hanger, not enough for two people and nothing to hang trousers on! The TV was only tuned in to BBC 1 and 2. The other channels were not working. The TV remote controller had its batteries round the wrong way, which we rectified. The shower head in the bathroom needed cleaning - water was spurting out in all directions. Service in the dining room for dinner was casual and lackadaisical. We had to ask twice for certain items. Roast beef dish was disappointing. Breakfast was ok.
It felt very cosy and comforting. It was clean and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Food was amazing and great value for money.
Nothing it was perfect
Clean modern rooms, lovely pub, great food & very close to Bicester Avenue & Village
Didn’t get breakfast included in the booking
Gorgeous location, lovely building, great food and very cosy. Close to Oxford, and Bicester Village.
Nothing really negative. Some cobwebs in the restaurant windows, but I’m not bothered. One of our group was more fussy.
Great location for a visit to Bicester Village and receiving a discount code was an unexpected bonus. Clean, spacious room with nice bathroom. The pub was inviting and the staff a dinner were great.
Tiny things like the TV remote not working properly were a shame. Also the smoke alarm went off in the morning after we used the coffee machine, not sure if the two were connected but it didn’t seem to be a drill for the whole hotel - so that was odd.
Nice location & quiet. Convenient for M40. Pub had lots of character for the evening
No bedside lighting . No bulb in one & other didn’t work
Great location and comfortable.
The room was spacious and comfortable with a large double bed. It also had a huge shower room. The food in the bar/restaurant (its the same menu) was interesting. We had Fish and Chips and a Chicken/Chorizo Burger. The portions were good and the food was very tasty, especially with a nice glass of wine to help it down! The staff were great, laughing and joking pretty much all the time. Despite being relatively close to the M40 we didn't hear any motorway noise at all.
Getting into Wendlebury is a bit of a challenge. If you come off the motorway you drive past the village entrance on the dual carriageway through some lights to a roundabout and then come back on yourselves to the village entrance. This entrance is quite small. Everything relating to The Lion itself was great!
Very nice pub-hotel-restaurant with cosy rooms and very good food (dinner and breakfast). Team super nice and helpful. WiFi can be an issue, but fully solved with help from the pub team. Really good value for money.
Nothing
Location Staff very good food
Lovely area, great bathroom, very clean & modern with a huge shower. Welcoming staff. Didn’t eat there as we were meeting relatives but dining room looked lovely. The pub had plenty of character. Parking available. Location brilliant, out of the hustle & bustle & took us only 10 mins drive to Bicester Village.
The bed was too soft & lumpy for us, sorry.
Friendly team, well decorated, good breakfast, nice range of spaces in the bar/restaurant and nice that the bedrooms were separate from the main pub. We also liked the friendly local cat!
We really liked the hotel, if I had to pick something I’d say the bedroom got a little hot but the team had put a fan in there.
Relaxed helpful staff. Great with our dog. We've stayed here a few times and always feel relaxed and happy.
..

Warm welcome by everything and everyone
