Tiu Batu exceeded my expectations! The surrounding area was so beautiful and peaceful, you are surrounded by nature and some really cool day trips/experiences. The food was insanely good, I really recommend the grilled chicken dish. The room and bathroom was clean.
We absolutely loved our stay here, we ended up coming twice! The owner is extremely welcoming, kind hearted and has a lot of knowledge to share :) The place is very self sufficient which is lovely to see, taste and experience! The rooms are very cool, they are all tree houses! We're very grateful for our stay here, thank you!
Robbie was very helpful and prepared dinner for us because we arrived late. The room was clean and had good AC. Miki the cat was very cute too 🥰
We werden ontzettend aardig ontvangen.
It’s in a quiet little town, not many other tourists. The value for money is amazing with private bathroom and A/C! The included breakfast was always amazing and I highly recommend getting dinner here too, absolutely delicious! The staff are so kind and went out of their way to make my stay amazing and comfortable. The perfect place to remote work or just chill! 11/10
What a beautiful Homestay! Robbie and his family are amazing, the food is so delicious and he has so much knowledge he is ready to share if you ask. So helpful and happy to guide you on any trips, tips or around the garden! Such a gem of a place to find
Definitely stay here. The owner is great - friendly, attentive, very helpful. The food available at the cafe is delicious. My cabin was directly on the river and while basic was clean and comfortable. But the river location really is the star of the show! The river is great to view, great to hear always in the background, and really lovely to swim in. I thoroughly recommend staying here if you are taking the ferry to/from Pototano.
The only drawback for me was that the cafe and river are open to the public and very popular - so there were always lots of people around during daylight hours.
Such a beautiful stay in a wonderful location. The host was lovely and helped us arrange a hike to the waterfall. We would love to come back!
Everything here is amazing including the food and the people
Everything was great
Sweet! You could here the river next to you while falling asleep! The breakfast was delicious!!!
Perfect
Everything
Krásné klidné místo u řeky v horách.Typické domorodé ubytování prostě zážitek který chceš zažít.Hostitelé milí a vaří svojí vlastní kávu ze své plantáže.
Great stuff, nice guy, great Brekky. Went for a stroll through the lovely nearby village. Very green and natural area. Multiple stories of accomodation was awesome
Very basic bathroom facilities.
Robby was an amazing host. Not only were the rooms great but they had everything we needed. They accommodated us on short notice and we received amazing food, help with our washing and great knowledge about the natural surroundings. The room even had aircon! Robby also helped us organise a night guide for a hike who was very knowledgeable and helped us find snakes nearby, as well as organised us beautiful accomodation in a remote village with a friend. Highly recommend if you’re looking to be a bit off the beaten path, still be looked after and enjoy nearby nature.
The place, so quiete, natural , just nearby a clean river and the main thing far for busy location. The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpul. We arrived very late but we still can get dinner. For the first time after few times in Sumbawa we finally can enjoy the tasty local food. Highly recommended. Simple place but very nice.
Our too short time to stay longer
Nice location, next to the river, good bedroom, nice and friendly staff, good price, so no complaints,
The host was very kind, interesting, we recommand it for anyone passing by Alas ! food was great !

Robbie was such a friendly host. He had so much info on the area, which meant we did a stunning waterfall walk. His cooking was amazing and everyone else there was so friendly. There are some lovely cats that hang around and we were lucky enough to stay in the tree house which had an amazing deck and views. We arrived in the dark and it was slightly hard to find (as google maps has it on the wrong side of the river), but once there we felt right at home.
We had no issues at all. It was simple and easy.
The location it s wrong, its fake! Dont book here
The location it s wrong, its fake! Dont book here
The place was exactly like written in the add. It has everything you need, and the location is just sublime. The beds were comfortable. Robby and his family are the most friendly and nice people we have ever met. We loved every minute of our stay in Tiu Batu. If you’re looking for a hotel with all facilities this is not it, if you’re looking for the experience of your life, getting to know wonderful people and taste amazing local food, then this is so much it!
We loved everything about the place. It is exactly the kind of homestay we were looking for.
Very pretty, we had our own treehouse in the middle of two lakes. There were really cute cats and the food was delicious and very affordable.
Was one of the nices stay, really authentic we had the house for us , Robby was the kindest host ever, food was so good and cheap and all organic! Coffee also was soooo delicious ! Thank you Robby!
Basic room (nothing fancy but very functional) with air-conditioning, WiFi, terrace and rooftop in the middle of the rice field. Near the river and the waterfall.
The food was ok. And having hot water would have been great.
We received an incredible welcome from Robbie and his team. The location is fabulous. We particularly enjoyed the local organic food which mainly comes from Tiu Batu. Robbie also organised for a guide to take us up to the Agal waterfall. We were not sure if we really needed a guide but our guide Rasul was brilliant and showed us food from the jungle. We would not have known where to cross the river without his help. The waterfall is so spectacular and worthwhile if you can manage a 90 minute hike. Please understand accommodation is basic but it is clean and comfortable. This wonderful gem of a place is so much more than a room. I would not hesitate to return and I would highly recommend a diversion to visit.
Nothing
The host is so welcoming and helped us a lot to get to the homestay and when we left on the bus to Saleh Bay. We also had great food at his place. The homestay is situated on the riverside close to a small village. The atmosphere is very relaxing and you are surrounded by nature and a rural setting. The room we stayed in was really pretty - a comfortable tree house. And in case you need a warm shower, you only have to switch on the water heater on the shower pipe.
This is a QUIET and lovely traditional local built teak houses in a small village a 20 minute or so drive off the coast road. The host is a lovely guy who is very informative. Very nice meals. Overall you cannot fault the place. It is located next to a river with a kind of bridge ford across the river. Note if you go over the bridge you’ve gone to far. You won’t regret staying here.
We have loved everything about our stay at Tiu Batu Homestay. Our room is very comfortable and private, with everything we would need for a happy stay. We have our own outdoor space to chill and share meals. The property is beautiful; with a big river running through it. You can swim in this river, and the water is clear and refreshing. Breakfast was really great, and we actually ate all our meals here at Tiu Batu. The beautiful host Robbie and his wife prepare meals using the organic produce that they grow on their property. For each meal we are different traditional dishes, that were nourishing, interesting and flavourful. It is pretty special to be eating fish caught that day from the pond your room overlooks. Our host, Robbie, took the time to show us around the property, he showed us the way to the local waterfall and he took us to the local market. He has made sure we are comfortable, and offered great recommendations for things to do in the area. We loved the Alas area, the energy in town is really great, there are many food stalls in the evening, and the local market is also very good. The waterfall which is a 5 min drive and then a two hour hike from the homestay is one of the most beautiful that we have seen. We have stayed three nights, and are already organising to come back to stay for a few more nights later in our trip. I really cannot recommend this homestay more highly.
This accommodation was absolutely amazing!! Robbie, the host, is the best! We arrived pretty late from Sumbawa and he still made us dinner. He uses almost only things from his own garden, so cool and fresh! His aunt helped us with our laundry, the breakfast was amazing and we could stay an extra night. Also he lend us his scooter for some sightseeing. His uncle led us to the Agal Waterfall which was a nice hike (but the uncle didn’t speak English). Lastly, he brought us to the bus in the city. The room is nice, what you expect for that price on Sumbawa. The airco works, it is pretty quiet, there is a normal toilet and the bed is comfy.
The only thing (but we did not tell him) is that the shower was super hot or cold, but not a big problem.
I booked 3 nights but ended up staying for a week. Through Robby I got to experience and understand what the culture, the food and the agriculture of Sumbawa is like. Every dish his family is cooking for you is unique by using traditional recipes and organic ingredients that grow on his small farm, Anthony Bourdain would have loved it here! On top of that Robby organised an island tour, took me to the market and showed me how coffee is being produced here. Also the hike to the waterfall is impressive. If you want to see the true Sumbawa do yourself a favor and stay for at least 2-3 nights!
The room might be simple but has everything you need.
The homestay is located in a special area with a food garden and run by a lovely family. We so much appreciate staying there as it gave us a feeling of grounding in our travel through contact with natural beauty of the surroundings and heartwarming exchange with Robby and Tiu. I would love to visit again in the future this special place. The food was delicious and we got to know the ingredients of local Sumbawa cusine. We also bought the wild bees honey that they sell. Robbie went with us for a forest walk early in the morning and explained a lot about the area, plants, animals. He knows a lot and has a good heart :)
Everything was great. Nature and good food
Excellent room. Comfy bed. Lovely owner. Great breakfast
owners are very friendly and helpful, the home cooked food was delicious and loved trying the honeys and coffee which you can also buy. the location is so peaceful by the river and you can further up the hill to swim also. we came back for a second night as we enjoyed it so much!
accomodation is basic but everything works as needed so no complaints
It's a Permaculture set up. Go with the flow of nature.. Cooperate with nature. It's really unic for this island.. And cheap.. Nice helpful I hope to come back for a few days to explore the surrounding areas
That I had to go further away to the east on my ebike
Tia Batu Homestay offers an extraordinary experience, largely thanks to the incredible host, Robbie. From the moment I arrived, Robbie's warmth and hospitality made me feel right at home. He’s not only a kind and caring person but also an excellent guide, offering invaluable suggestions on what to see and do in the area. The homestay itself is a paradise, surrounded by lush nature and well-tended fields. Robbie's love and passion for this place are evident in every detail. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and there are plenty of open areas to relax and soak in the serene atmosphere. The traditional food was another highlight—every meal was superb and full of local flavors. Plus, the homestay is conveniently located near Agal Waterfall, a must-visit spot that’s easily accessible. In summary, my stay at Tia Batu Homestay was magnificent. Robbie’s hospitality, the beautiful surroundings, and the delicious food made it an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!
The room was rustic and quirky, with a comfortable bed, hot water shower and aircon. Tranquil, lush surroundings not far from a village. Our host Robbie was very attentive, and speaks good English. We ate dinner at the homestay, and it was delicious, a simple and traditional chicken dish, with incredible flavors. One of our most enjoyable meals in Indonesia. This is a great place to break the journey from Sumbawa Besar to the surf beaches further south, or as a place for those seeking peace and tranquility. There is a waterfall approx 1.5 hours walk from the guesthouse, but we were short of time so didn't manage to visit it. Exceptional value for money.
If you like to spent your time close to the nature this place is perfect for you. Robi is a really nice person. We had a long chat with him. He talked about local culture and food with a real passion. The food is spectacular. They use local organic ingredients. Coffe is great and is also from local organic plantation. We have bought a lot of coffe and honey from him. I recommend to go trekking to waterfall which is located nearby. We there is enaugh water they organize rafting on tires. Ps. they have a lovely cat! :)
This place is far away from the hustle and bustle and is located in the local countryside. If you are looking for something glamorous, this is not the place for you. This place is for people who want to immerse themselves in the original local culture and bring respect and interest with them. Robbie will help you with his extensive knowledge, showing you his families coffee production if you like and spoil you with local organic food, with ingredients either from his own garden or from the surrounding area. For us it was paradise.
