Sandbank Madiha

This was a last minute booking and we were honestly so pleasantly surprised with how good it was. There wasn’t any hot water for the shower, but it actually ended up being super refreshing in the heat anyway. We also timed our stay perfectly and happened to be there for a ping pong tournament night, so the vibes were high and it made the whole experience even better. The food was great, we especially loved the curry buffet and the staff were all so friendly and welcoming. Such a fun stay!

The staff was so kind and the room was really nice.

There were so many ants in the bathroom (beyond normal). Also there was a event at the location the night we were staying ( great live music !!!), but it was way to loud in our room, we couldn’t even talk.

Das Sandbank war bisher eine der schönsten Unterkünfte in Sri Lanka. Die Zimmer sind modern, klar und gemütlich eingerichtet. Eine echte Seltenheit in Sri Lanka. Es gibt eine tolle Terrasse wo man abgeschirmt sitzen kann. Unser Vermieter Lahiru war super nett und hat uns bei allem geholfen. Er hat sogar einen Ausflug mit uns gemacht ohne etwas dafür zu berechnen, das war bisher einmalig. Das Frühstück war reichlich, lecker und täglich anders. Es ist eine kleine, sehr persönlich geführte Unterkunft. Danke für den schönen Aufenthalt an das ganze Team!

There was no warm water throughout the stay. Also there IS AC in the room.

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights and had a mixed experience. While there were definitely some positives, there were also several issues that made our stay less enjoyable. First, the cleanliness of the room was disappointing. When we arrived, the bed sheets were dirty, and we had to ask for them to be changed. The toilet was not properly cleaned, which was quite unpleasant. Also, the outdoor cushions on the terrace were really dirty, making it uncomfortable to sit there. Another major issue was the lack of hot water, which made showering very inconvenient. Additionally, the Wi-Fi did not work in the room—it was only available on the terrace, which was frustrating. The privacy in the room was also a problem, as it was visible from the communal area. We constantly had to keep the curtains closed to avoid feeling watched. One particularly annoying issue was that the bathroom window could not be closed at all—it was permanently open due to its design. This meant that in the evening, the light attracted a lot of insects, which was very inconvenient. On the positive side, the air conditioning was very new and powerful, which made it easy to keep the room cool and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, with a great selection of fresh food. The restaurant also served really good meals, which was a highlight of our stay. The staff was very friendly and did their best to accommodate us despite the issues we faced. Overall, while the hotel has some great aspects, the cleanliness and comfort need improvement. If these issues were addressed, it could be a much better place to stay.

We were really lucky to find this place and spent 11 nights here! If we come back to Sri Lanka, we will definitely stay in Sandbank again. New, clean, comfortable room with cozy terrace. Super-friendly, caring staff - they were always ready to help with ALL our requests. We felt ourselves very welcomed guests - not just regular clients. The place is located in quiet part of Madiha which was important for us - no loud music and parties around. There is no usual beach nearby but for us it was advantage as we don’t like crowds and swimming - just be in the ocean and jump with waves) Just several moments were specific and could be important to know in advance: there is no hot water (it’s not cold of course, just fresh), WiFi didn’t work in our room (n3), just on terrace - but this points just details, not problems and it couldn’t mess up our stay in such a great place.

Wouldn't mind an Air Conditioning even at a higher price.

Excellent staff, delicious snacks and curry buffet, room was newly renovated and super clean. We spent nearly night there and really enjoyed this stay, were playing table tennis, location is in a quiet part of Madiha.

There was no AC in the room but we knew that before we arrived so for us it was not an issue
