Bunty's Tea House

Bunty was incredibly welcoming, we had a lovely dinner cooked for us and a delicious breakfast the next morning. Only 6 minutes by tuk tuk to Kandy lake etc and a shop opposite the house if you want to buy any water/snacks. We had our first Sri Lankan meal here and it was perfect. The room is great with AC and big mosy nets and a lovely balcony view too. Bunty and co are all very welcoming and if we ever stay in Kandy again, then it will certainly be here.

Everything was perfect, My favourite was the food by the lady Darshi, a Brakefast mix of Sri Lanken with green soup ( kola kenda) and the typical Sri Lanken dinner little spicy but it was super tasty also the homemade dessert ummm.., after the beers 🍻 👌. Very comfortable bed, sonic sun set view, hand made tea tasted first time and it was wonderful, Special thank to Bunty for arranging the knuckles mountain hiking for a very good price also arranging and introducing Nasa the tuk tuk friend. Highly recommend or forgot about bubu the biggest labi I have seen so friendly and so cute

Nothing other than too much love and care

Excellent place, so comfortable bed not bunks, Bunty is a amazing person gave very good ideas about kandy and Sri Lanka, we went to knuckles mountains with shared trip and was unforgettable place, food from lady Darshi best ever in Sri Lanka dinner with dessert cost only 5 $, so relaxing and covenant place with all facilities just 10 minutes walk to the centre.

The host didn’t help carrying our luggage (here is the only place we didn’t get help while we were in Sri Lanka). The room doesn’t have a private bathroom ( the so-called private bathroom is downstairs and adjacent to other two rooms, when I tried to use the bathroom, and a lady was inside and locked the door). breakfast was super super simple. The place is located at a spot where the pickme drivers can’t find it, they had to call the host to locate it every time. The room doesn’t even have curtains. The host try to sell tours once you check in and ignore you when you don’t buy anything from him.

The owner Bunty is a smooth talker who was only interested in how he would gain. He put pressure to stay longer and do the Knuckles. We refused and continued with our plans to leave after one night. Unfortunately the young couple before us were not so lucky. Bunty has a drinking problem so be firm about not accepting alcohol if you didn't ask for it...he will make you pay for what you didn't have.. Thankfully this place was the only worst experience in our amazing Sri Lanka travels.

The location was quiet and a short tuk-tuk ride to the town, and the room had a nice view. The food was quite good.

The room had no curtains, despite having lots of windows, and no working lock. The food was slightly expensive, and items such as milk in our tea came with an extra charge. The main thing we disliked was Bunty's constant selling, for example, tea after dinner came with a long sales pitch and disrupted the fun evening with other guests. We were also offered a lift into town by Bunty, which he then attempted to charge three of us $25 for, which would have been $4-5 on the local tuk-tuk app.

Bunty’s tea house is a very cosy and homely hostel/guesthouse. The house is authentically Sri Lankan with great views of Kandy. What made the stay special wss Bunty and his families hospitality.

We had an amazing stay at Bunty’s. Bunty as well as all of his staff are extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about the area (and are happy to help plan/organise your stay there). Would definitely stay again! Jake & Anna

Det unikke ved dette stay, er uden tvivl værten Bunty. Meget nærværende og flink herre. Som vil gøre alt for at gøre sit ophold unikt. Han kender alle de gode steder i byen, og kan give dig en autentisk og spændende oplevelse af byen. Han er også altid klar på at dele en flaske Arrac, og fortælle røverhistorier.

I stayed 7 days at Bunty's place. And felt like at home. Bunty and his family are very caring and supportive. I needed to work online and asked for good wifi and a good working place. Bunty offered me to use the top room for work whenever it was free. They also offered me several little gifts like a local rice soup or chocolate cake. I also tried out the dinner at his place and I can totally recommend their rice and curry! Bunty also supported me with a great driver to get to the Ambewela train station. I would come back for sure. Thank you very much!

I left my bag on the coach when I arrived in Kandy. Bunty managed to track down the bag and the bus, then he drove to another town to collect it.

The food he served at night was over paid.He provided us a car with AC not working.That was also was over paid.Actually he had cheated us in a gentle way.

The host Bunty cares for everything and he is really friendly, the balcony view is amazing - especially for sunset. Also the room has high speed internet that allows working very well ☺️ He even offered late check out that we appreciated very much!

Staying with Bunty's family was like being with my own. He was super responsive from the very beginning and came to pick me up to the station upon arrival. I took the apartment as I was going to be working for quite a few hours a day and I wanted space, a desk and good connection (and great view) and it was a great choice. The room is spacious, full of light (no curtains to the exterior) and a little terrace ideal to have a tea and enjoy sunrise or sunset. The house itself is beautiful and has a garden outside if you also want to have a tea or your b'fast. I got different b'fast every day (my favourite was the "pitu" with curry) and they adapted to my hours, as every day was slightly changing. The family lives in the house and they are very discreet and lovely. Anusha helped me also with the understanding of the SriLankan cuisine and made incredible dishes. We also had fabulous chats and she taught me how to do some recipes. I extended my stay because I really loved it and could have been there for a long time. Bunty also helped with an issue with the router and, while being fixed, he lent me some data from a hotspot. it's all about finding solutions and helping constantly! He even dropped me off at the station at 4.45 am the day I left!! That's kindness!! Hospitality out of the ordinary and a fabulous place to stay! Thanks for treating me like familiy!!

It was fabulous. Just bear in mind that going to town is downhill and coming back is uphill, but more than doable. And you can always grab a tuctuc.

Sehr schöne Zimmer, viel Platz und netter Vermieter (Bunty). Man muss wissen, dass Bunty eher wie ein Vater einer Gastfamilie ist und nicht nur Vermieter und auch Tee und Öl zum Kauf und bezahlte Stadtführungen anbietet. Er hat sich gut um alles gekümmert, wie Essen, Stadtführung, Fahrten, Wäsche usw., sogar als die Wäsche nur unvollständig aus der Wäscherei zurückkam, hat er sich darum gekümmert, dass die Klamotten noch nach Ella geschickt werden.

Uns war es teilweise ein bisschen zu viel, noch beim Essen Tee und Öl zum Kauf angeboten zu bekommen…

Bunty was an incredible host who showed me around Kandy and showered me with incredible food and great suggestions, whilst also treating me as a friend. His English is incredible and he stopped at nothing to ensure I had a wonderful experience and view of Sri Lanka and its wonderful culture. I had access to a large bedroom with a comfy bed, and a lovely upstairs view at my disposal anytime I needed to catch my breath. He also dropped me at the airport for a great rate and organised my laundry being picked up and dropped off. He also has access to a great local doctor if you need anything at all during your stay. Thanks Bunty, it was a pleasure.

Acces avec une petite pente raide mais commodités tres pratiques dans la rue.(boulangerie, boutique fruit et repas a emporter) L'hôte est arrangeant et propose une visite de la ville dans sa voiture, partage son expérience et fournit de très bon repas/ breackfast locals. L'équipement est basic mais confortable pour un séjour en visite. Belle vue depuis la chambre et le jardin sur les montagnes.

Whilst my time was short and mostly spent working on my computer, Bunti made sure I was comfortable, fed and overall happy with endless cups of tea, an amazing, filling breakfast of ‘pittu,’ and even a cheeky beer :) Bunti even made note of my sweet tooth and brought dessert out which was a nice touch. The stay is in his family home which has since been done up nicely with gorgeous archways and vintage decor. If you choose to eat at the property (for a great value of $5 a meal) you can enjoy it with a view. I slept comfortably in the double room and worked from home using the desk upstairs and the balcony. It made for a scenic backdrop to my work. The location is tucked away in the quieter side of Kandy away from the hustle and bustle, close to jungle. You can even go for a lovely walk through the greenery a 5 minute walk away.

J'ai beaucoup apprécié notre séjour chez Bunti ! Le logement est a 7 minutes de Kandy en tuktuk. Il s'est montré très accessible et donne de nombreuses informations utiles sur le sri lanka. Il propose des dejeuner et petit dejeuner locaux d'une grande qualité. Très bon sejour.

Convenient & Clean place, So close to city of kandy, wonderful Sri Lankan traditional break fast "pittu" best one so tasty, also Rice and curry dinner enjoyed so much. Shalu gave a good rate for the drop hire to Dabulla and he has a very good knowledge about the country so good English, very helpful. Thank you so much.

Salhu was an excellent host. He was very friendly and very easy to communicate. He made sure we had everything we needed and was very helpful with recommendations. The breakfast was amazing, the best Sri Lankan breakfast we had ( we have been travelling for more than a month). Great value for what you get! Also we decided to have dinner at the house and was delicious too, lovely rice curry with chicken all home made with a sweet dessert! So nice thank you so much for being very kind and helpful:) ස්තුතියි

The beds weren’t the comfiest, although we still had a good sleep. We extended our stay as the breakfast and value was great.

This place is so convenient, clean and comfortable. Amazing host treated us so well, excellent food so delicious, "Megala "the lady cook made ( pittu) for the breakfast the best ever also support us on laundry thank you so much. Highly recommend this place with out any hesitation.

We really liked our stay in Wagi Villa. The owner helped us with everything and did all things possible for us. For example, my friend was a little bit sick and he called his own doctor for advice. Also the dinners were really tasty. We felt like home and recommend this place 100%.

The location was not in walking distance from the city centre, but that was not really an issue for us.

The location was beautiful and hosts were extremely kind and helpful. The meals they served were equally nice and the house itself has a nice ambience to it.
