Wir haben das Custom House für eine Übernachtung auf der Durchreise gebucht. Wir waren sehr positiv überrascht von der tollen Lage am Kanal und dem wunderschön renovierten Haus. Die Zimmer sind sehr sauber, alles ist sehr hochwertig. Am besten hat uns die geräumige Küche/Wohnzimmer gefallen. Es gibt einen grossen Tisch, an dem die Gäste zusammen sitzen können und sogar für das Frühstück ist gesorgt. Die Gastgeber stellen eine Auswahl an Broten, Butter, Marmeladen, Müslis und Kaffee/Tee zur Verfügung; man kann auch seine eigenen Lebensmittel im Kühlschrank unterbringen und kochen. Das Custom House ist hundefreundlich; Möglichkeiten zum Spazierengehen gibt es genug. Das Auto kann sicher geparkt werden.

We loved the location by the canal. Very peaceful and calm. The lounge/kitchen area serves very well. Loved the furniture. Bedroom nicely decorated with a comfy bed and bathroom has all you need. We had bagels and coffee in the morning in the communal area which was nice. Good choice of breads/bagels. Jam and butter in the fridge.

A little tired in areas. It's such a nice house, so give it all the attention it deserves. We didn't meet any staff or owners. The dog bed wasn't in the room.

I liked the location by the canal and the Clyde . I liked the communal Kitchen . I liked the decor esp the textiles and pictures .

I know that you have to have emergency lighting, but the green light in the ceiling was quite bright . The bed was too firm for me . The bath was set dressing .

Brilliant wee place. Super clean and cosy room. Slept like a log. Great location, peaceful and scenic. Loved watching the Waverly go by from the window seat. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back soon.

This is a special house in a unique location. We absolutely loved it. The hotel has been beautifully restored and stylishly decorated. We appreciated coffee and biscuits in the room and bread, cereal and milk in the kitchen. Entry was easy with directions given anf codes for the gate, front door and room door.

The curtains were see through and the shutters dont close. There is no sign when you drive down so it is easy to miss the turn off. Nothing very notable, and didn't really affect our stay

Everything was great the people and the place right beside the water was just lovely 😍 and lots of places to go you even see the waverly boat going up the Clyde fantastic 😀 and little cafe near ❤️ great food 😀

This is a wonderful hotel, outside of the well trodden track to Dumbarton. Very clean and well decorated room, the "common room" with small kitchen and Nespresso machine was appreciated. - familiarise yourself with the location before coming here, it's easy once you know how!

It did seem strange that there were no people there, but someone was cleaning &, very helpfully showed us round, plus the other guests & the couple in the house boat were very friendly.

Another one of many stays at this fabulous property & we were treated to one of our favourite rooms. Super big, comfy bed, spotlessly clean, very secure for vehicles and a lovely kitchen/seating area to use if you so wish. Oh & it’s dog friendly too but as a current chemo patient at the Beatson, our boy stayed at home - a really great, relaxing night before treatment day.

Having stayed in different rooms at the Customs House found this one a little cramped.

Very nice location, very nice friendly staff, room looked nice, bath was nice. Staff left out cakes & bread along with tea & coffee, which was very thoughtful.

Two single beds had been pushed together which left a join in the middle that wasn’t comfortable, you could hear the person walking around upstairs at night. The TV & the bedside lights were not very well positioned & you could easily bash into them if you got up in the night especially from the right hand side of the bed.

Fun location near the water. A little to hard to find, but clear instructions if you follow the m carefully. Quiet and private.

The hotel was utterly charming, so unique and a little hidden gem! The rooms were all individually decorated and beautifully done! The breakfast room was so nice too and the little added touches like the breakfast items available were a nice touch. The views are lush and the sauna was a fab to a great stay.The hotel was super clean and had everything you could need! Lynn was super lovely, super friendly and went the extra mile to make sure I was comfortable. Lynn is a credit to the hotel! Works so hard bless her. I ended up as a solo guest, unplanned, however I felt super safe and completely relaxed! As a woman on your own in a strange place, that meant a lot, and Lynn was always there to answer any questions, and I did ask quite a few! 😃 Thank you so much Lynn and a thank you to the other house staff I met briefly, they to were very friendly and hard working. I’ll most definitely be back, did not want to leave!

We've stayed here before on our way north. It's an ideal stop off point. The room was clean and comfortable with views across the canal and river. The little cafe nearby does excellent breakfasts.

Wonderful position, very quiet

We loved the story of the building, the view of the canal and all of the boats. The amenities were fantastic, coffee, tea, even decaf! Bagels and jam, cereal for the morning. We loved that we could bring our dog, she absolutely loved it. The place was really clean, great touches in the room, kettle with tea, coffee and biscuits and also a tv. Great idea to have sauna and cold plunge outside, thought it's a nice touch and will definitely come back and stay again.

This is probably me being a bit particular, but it would have been very helpful to have plug sockets with USB ports in them! Everything was brilliant though.

Fabulous but quirky little hotel with stunning river. generous and secure car parking once you arrive at the property. initially felt a bit odd with just key codes for entry gates, main doors and rooms, however excellent telephone support and helpful local staff to answer any queries. Rooms beautifully clean and comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms we occupied. Whilst no restaurant within the building, dining room and some kitchen amenities meant that simple meals could be easily prepared, although breakfast of toast and cereal choices made available by staff each day. 10 out of 10 and would definitely return

Charming hotel at a nice and quiet location. Friendly host, good room and bathroom. I went for breakfast at a small place nearby, I think there's a fridge to store your own food. You get clear instructions on the day of arrival. Highly recommend for a nice stopover or to explore the area.

Quaint building, beautifully renovated. Lovely decor. 15 minutes walk from Bowling Train station. Right by the water and boat dock. No reception, it has codes for door and key box for your room. Kitchen and seating area at front door with cereals and breads. Coffee machine with kettle and toaster. Stayed in Room 1 overlooking the lake with stand alone bath and separate shower. It's across from the kitchen area so if other people are in house and are using it at night it can be a bit noisy. Would definitely recommend to stay.

We had an issue with flushing of the toilet - no one to call. Thankfully it flushed the next day! Code was hard to get right, push buttons a couple of times.

The location was lovely, the room was spotless, a great housekeeping team. The Communal kitchen with toast, bagels and cereal was a lovely touch. And a great coffee machine. Room seven was compact with a lovely view of the loch. The bathroom is huge and there is a lovely shower over bath. Access with codes is straight forward.

If I am picky, a larger bed would be better

It was a lovely cosy and quirky room. Thoughtfully decorated and beautifully maintained.

Maybe I am just showing my age but at no point did we see any staff. A welcome or a goodbye was sadly missed. Bring back human interaction!

No mention of a communal kitchen on the website, discovered purely by accident. Would have been good to know before we ordered a takeaway.

Uroczy hotel, cudowne miejsce. Bardzo ładnie urządzone wnętrza, bardzo czyste i zadbane. Miły i pomocny personel. Wieczorem totalny spokój w całej okolicy (marina jest zamykana) i przy dobrej pogodzie można spędzić fantastyczny wieczór podziwiając jachty na kanale.

Handy stop over when travelling north

Very run down building. Not a hotel it's an Airbnb . Very poor d.i.y breakfast. Room was clean and ok. Dinner only available about 1.5 miles away.

The smoke detector in our room had an extremely bright green light - it was on the ceiling and almost bright enough to read by!

Received the checking-in instructions so late that I didn’t have them to hand on arrival and had to ring for help. However there was someone at the end of the phone to give us the information we needed.

Es hatte einen grossen eigenen Parkplatz, welcher durch ein Tor gesichert war und man sich keine Sorgen machen musste. Das Bad war sehr sauber. Das check-in war selbständig und wir konnten spät abends anreisen.

The interior was exceptionally nice: clean, well-decorated, cozy. The bath TUB! A very nice bathroom. Nice communal room where one can sit, look at the view , and help oneself to toast & coffee in the morning. It took me a bit to realize there was a refrigerator also for jam & butter.

Arrival access was a bit confusing. Maybe because I didn’t read everything prior to arrival; but my phone had limited access all day. When we arrived later in the evening we didn’t at first see the narrow drive leading into the marina area. When we did, there was another car exiting, so we had to back out. Then we approached a closed gate and had to figure out how to contact the hotel for access. Then we had to figure out that what looked like a sidewalk was the entry drive. Then we saw the building and were afraid it was a mistake. Then my elder companion had to navigate the steps into the building and to the room. But we were happy once inside our room.

The listing said that dogs were free and each room had a dog bed, the day before I was sent a link to pay for a dog? And there was no dog bed? Felt a bit smoke and mirrors. Also the door was a little short which meant that noise carried really easily! The room was fine for a one night stay but perhaps a bit small for any longer!

We stayed on a Sunday night and there was a lack of nearby hostelries serving food.

Wonderful and relaxing location, very safe parking for our motorbikes. Very secure accommodation. We would definitely LOVE to return some day.

Unfortunately I got food poisoning at a nearby pub and am still recovering 6 days later; of course this has absolutely whatsoever to do with the accommodation, but it did ruin my holiday.

What a highlight on our Scotland trip! This old custom house is located right at the Bowling Harbour and the river Clyde. It is the perfect place for a peaceful, quiet stay. It is located in between the beautiful nature of Loch Lomond and Glasgow. The direct surrounding area is amazing, the harbour offers the prettiest views and walks. The room is cozy and provides everything that is needed for a good stay. There are coffee, tea and cookies in the room, as well as a hair dryer. The room was very clean! The community kitchen is so nicely decorated. Bread, cornflakes, jam, milk and good Nespresso coffee are there for all guests to have. If you are a guest, please remember to clean up after yourself, so everyone can enjoy the shared space. The hotel is self check-in only. Check your messages after booking and have your phone ready to enter the door code. Finding the hotel was easy with Google Maps, the directions provided were accurate. Be brave enough to take a sharp right turn into the narrow road in between the wall and hotel to reach the gate and parking.

The location it made you feel very chilled nice setting and to see the boats moored up it was lovely.

Staying in a property that had been very well renovated and had such a history as a Custom House in the Bowling Basin on the Clyde was so much better than a corporate hotel, the price was the same, the facilties were better. It had a communal kitchen where they supplied all you needed for breakfast. There was a microwave, kettle and coffee maker, you could make a basic meal. It had a quirky feel that made you feel you were welcome although we didn't see anyone. We had a bedroom with a river view on the top floor, it was worth the climb! The postiion on the lock was lovley for a stroll before setting of again. I would stay there again.
