Comfy bed. Quiet
Pretty basic
The room was generally well appointed, with all the usual facilities you would expect. The bathroom was clean and the shower water hot. The kitchenette had enough things to handle breakfast and making sandwiches for the day's hike. We have stayed there several times before and its location is brilliant if you like hiking and exploring the local area on foot or on bicycle. And all at a very reasonable price, unlike much of the rest of Southwold and Walberswick.
There was no breakfast. From previous stays I had expected basic breakfast materials, e.g. porridge or muesli, jam, butter and some form of bread / bagel. Maybe I miss-read the booking this time, but there was no breakfast. We had not planned for this and had to buy extra food at Walberswick's local shop (which is not the cheapest).
The room was excellent this was our 3rd stay at the Lodge and all rooms were clean, comfortable and nice, with tea, coffee, sugar, shower gel, soap etc supplied
Good
Clean and comfortable for a short stay. The room is well equipped with microwave, fridge and toaster for self catering. Lovely hot walk in shower.
Distance to walk into the village is @ 25 minutes along a busy rural road with no footpath for the first 10-15 mins so would be unsuitable for some guests. Towels need replacing as not very big and quite thin and scratchy.
It was a perfect location for seeing Southwold and Walberswick which is what we wanted. The room itself was well furnished. The bed was comfortable which is a must when staying away. It was well presented. Overall a lovely place to stay and I would recommend.
It needs better signage as we drove past it twice. The outside looks tired but don’t let that put you off. Bigger bath towels, I’m slim and it didn’t cover me.
Near Walberswick
Poor bed and basic furniture. Floors very dirty.
Wouldnt want to leave car their didnt feel safe very dirty no sink needed to use stair rail which was very dirty didnt like anything about this place
Good location and the rooms were very clean
The advertisement was misleading. I booked for my family with 4 children expecting to get a suite with a stove and sitting room. Instead we got individual rooms, a small microwave and very steep stairs which was sadly unsuitable for small children. So my family left after one night and went home. I found the exterior of the house a bit run down with a broken chair on the front lawn. Of course the drought didn't help. We won't be going back there
The spacious room and the location.
Old towels, needs re decoration. Artex ceiling needs skimming over, old bed linen
Clear instructions. Low price compared to other accommodation around. Plenty of parking.
Property fell well below expectations. In reality it didn't reflect the photos online. The accommodation was tatty, tired, and a cheaply done conversion of the unit. Lots of areas where paint was chipped on all paintwork, really faded curtains (not blinds as in photos), rust on bottom of radiators and some furniture, a doggy smell. Grout chipped and missing on large areas of bathroom floor. Everything was well used and well worn. The standard of approx 1-2* hotel. Perhaps this is the standard you get for price paid, but photos should represent the property accurately.
The photos on the website did not reflect reality. Toilet and shower were stained. Bedding was old and faded pillows were poor. Couldn't watch live TV The towel provided was thin and frayed.
It had a kettle, fridge, washing up liquid, sponge and drying rack
There were bugs and moths all over the windows and in the shower. I had a very busy trip at a caravan park during the day with my children and only went back to sleep at the lodge. To be fair to the owners I didn’t message at the time to say there was a problem as I was running around so much during the day. Once I left I did message the owners to say if my experience and asked for a partial refund as I didn’t sleep well. once I’d had time to think about it i felt as though the room hadn’t been cleaned properly and the problem had def been there a while. The response I received was defensive. I was accused of taking photos instead of immediately contacting them which was my fault. The photos were taken in the morning the day I was leaving. I only had 2 nights at the lodge. I should’ve in hindsight contacted on my first night but I was so busy and rushed out I thought I would just keep the bathroom door closed. I then realised when I got back at midnight that there were also bugs in the room. I really didn’t get a chance to think about it until midnight when I was returning back to the room. Although I should’ve made contact there shouldn’t have been such a problem from the first instance, the window and shower were not cleaned before I came in. It was clear the moths especially had been there a while. It wasn’t as simple as the bugs came in because the previous guests had left a window open.
Fantastic location. Great for footpaths and bridle ways to Dunwich and Southwold. Price - very cheap for Walberswick. All the basics are there.
It’s an old property. There are lots of plumbing gurgles and dripping cisterns etc. We couldn’t get hot water - think the tank was empty from other guests and it took a long time to refill.
Loved the set up. Simple, everything you need and spacious.
The mattress is seriously in need of replacement. The springs stick into shoulders and hips. Definitely time for a new mattress at least in the room I was in!
Peaceful location, great value for money, quick response from staff.
Shower difficult to operate, couldn't always get hot water; mattresses and pillows could be firmer.
Location ok
The shower was terrible. The hot tap in the sink had to be on for hot water in the shower. Even then, it would suddenly change from very hot to cold. Cleanliness could be improved. Kitchenette is very dated.
Perfect location, clean, warm and great value for money.
Nice location. Very good value for money. Clean and comfortable.
Pipes and radiator noisy - loud, sudden banging noises. Shower very difficult to adjust to reasonable temperature. Washbasin plug stuck down.
We cycled for Summer Solstice so it was close to the beach so great location.. The rooms are a decent size…
The shower… it was either burning hot or freezing cold…. We tried the method suggested but it was impossible to wash your hair with the temperature not able to regulate… Very tired looking place…
We stayed in Poacher on the ground floor which was absolutely fine. There were spare pillows and blanket if needed, hairdryer, scissors - all the little touches that make a big difference, plenty of utensils, it was clean - we had nothing to complain about, all at very good value. The kitchen and washing machine was an added bonus.
Nothing I didn't like.
Fantastic location, dog friendly with beautiful walks from the doorstep.
The steep stairs
Peaceful, quiet, out of the way perfect for stargazing or running around naked at night (not that I did that!). Spacious and clean, a relaxing atmosphere to stay in rather than just a place to sleep. Everything you'd need for a few days stay was supplied. Excellent bathroom, however I don't recall a lock on the door.
Had to call the host to get in to the property, however she was there within 5 minutes. Smell of cleaning products, although it was clean. Location was not near any shops.
It was exceptionally clean. We had everything we had expected.
N/A
The rural setting and peace and quiet.
Lack of electrical plug sockets.
Comfortable, clean, warm and peaceful
Nothing
Really only the Lodge to sleep. The bed was comfortable
Nothing
It was nice and quiet
Pine bed and uncomfortable mattress
Peaceful location.
Depressing decor, could do with updating. Shower ran hot/cold. TV not working. No privacy in kitchen when staff in adjoining laundry room, could hear all conversations. Some areas needed more cleaning. Another guest walked into our room by mistake, as they had misread the instructions for their stay!
Great value nice location will stay again
A mirror in the bedroom would be handy as there is only a mirror in the bathroom which makes styling your hair awkward
Location. Price was ok too
Sound insulation a bit poor. We heard the people above us and felt sorry for them as we had a v early start but tried our best to be quiet. Big security light outside may also have bothered them when we left.
Lovely scenery, a good location for seeing the sights. Accommodation was very clean, comfortable and warm. Great value for money.
Nothing really.
While it is away from the pubs (walk about 20-30mins). The room has everything you would need to make you breakfast. Also very dog friendly
I had an upstairs twin room. The bed was firm-ish, but comfortable and I enjoyed 4 nights of good sleep. The chairs were stylish and comfortable. TV and wi-fi much appreciated. The kitchenette was reasonable with all that a couple would need in terms of cutlery, plates etc. The microwave and fridge both essential items and worked well. There was an adequate supply of hot water and instructions for the shower were clear. The rooms were clean, the beds well made with spare pillows. Excellent local facilities, shops, coffee shop, pubs, cafe and antiques/memorabilia, plus the harbour for crabbing make Walberswick a lovely, characterful place to visit and stay. The person who looks after the house came to my rescue when I locked myself out of my room!
The floor grouting in the large bathroom needs redoing at sometime. I found the stairway steepish and noisy, could do with a carpet, as could the bedroom/seating area. For those less mobile a second hand rail opposite the existing one would be an asset. These a practical thoughts on lifting the quality. In due course the exterior will need repainting
The lodge is a no fuss accommodation which has everything you need for a short stay. Only thing that might be improved is a kitchen sink. Location a stones throw from Walberswick and a great location for cycling which was the reason for booking the stay. Had a great time. Thanks
If all you want is a bed to rest your head then this is perfect. A bit of a walk to walberswick but i guess visitors will be there for the walking.
It's a shame the basic breakfast has stopped as now you have to provide your own except tea/ coffee
Nothing. It’s not fit for purpose. It shouldn’t be on your site. It’s in a state of disrepair. Our weekend was ruined!
Everything. Outside grounds are horrible, like a bomb site. Inside was worse. Peeling paint on the walls and ceiling. White paint splashed on the brown wooden doors. Uncomfortable beds. Smell of damp. Fungus on walls especially next to food prep areas. Boiler for whole building locked away in a cupboard in our living quarters that was constantly noisy and kept us awake. The weekend was ruined. When I messaged the property they never replied for 24 hours. No refund given then booking.com gave us a measly good will discount of 10% in the form of a credit, what they should be doing is taking the listing down not giving out 10% credits in the hope we book again on their site!
The accommodation was excellent, clean and comfortable, good value for money, this was our 2nd visit and would definitely stay again
Excellent choice at such an affordable price.
perfect for quiet escape into a picturesque countryside painting with the sea. and clean and very roomy.
Great location. Everything we needed.
A bit tired in places.
Location value for money character
The owners need to do a bit of renovation front door of the building
Great value for money
Nothing really
clean, cost effective, comfortable, kitchen facilities basic but all essential needs provided for check-in and out very simple rural setting, passing traffic limited the property contact responded quickly when contacted
"good breakfast" available for first booking turned out to be pre-provided, DIY although the instant porridge, which we rarely eat at home, was enjoyed
Everything clean, good location with parking. Decent shower and kitchen was useful, nice carpeted sitting area with sofa, was basic but clean and comfortable. Suited us well. Could walk out of gate and back onto the common, pleasant walk to either town. Really liked it and would stay there again. Cheers.
excellent value for money, clean room and great breakfast facilities
nothing
The breakfast was very good. The location fine for the village.
The shower was not easy to control.
The isolated location, the peacefulness, the silence.
Loved it all
Very peaceful and nice place to stay.
I would come again with the family and make more use of the whole lodge.
Room was good value for money.
Superb facilities in safe and peaceful location. I always use The Lodge when in the area. Very reasonably priced. Excellent rooms. Can't fault the place.
Great for the dog and very good value for money to visit the area.
Could hear upstairs footsteps quite easily
We liked the location. The view from Statue, the front bedroom window was good. The room is a good size.Good selection of cutlery. We are happy the antlers have now been removed from the doors.
The bed was uncomfortable.Perhaps a new mattress would be advisable.Larger cups and glasses would be better.Larger bath towels are recommended.
Spacious, microwave and toaster as well as kettle. Nicely equipped with plates etc. Washing up easy despite no dedicated sink. Loved it!
Would have liked a broom and dustpan and brush to keep the crumbs at bay. We think the boiler needs servicing or replacing urgently as it was making some pretty scary noises. Also a plumber for the toilet as it doesn't shut off completely after flushing and is wasting a lot of water, as well as constant noisy dripping. Would have liked a one ring electric hob to do simple meals.
Walks from the door, eg to River Blyth.
Lovely house full of atmosphere. Beautiful sound of owls calling. Clean. Comfortable. Very friendly. Perfect for walking.
That I wasn't able to stay longer.
Quiet location, easy to find and plenty of guest parking; dogs allowed. My child has additional needs and loved the big TV; room larger than anticipated, with two chairs and small coffee table in addition to twin beds.
Having to run the bathroom sink tap in order to get hot water in the shower; no sink in kitchenette and food prep area could have been a tad bigger (although pleasantly surprised by the small separate kitchen/dining room). Stairs very steep and creaky; not sure how a larger dog would manage, ours is small enough to carry.
Beautiful rural views, lovely nearby walks & very clean & good value. 🙏
Location good. Did not have breakfast.
Clean & comfortable room, well located for a 2 day trip to RSPB Minsmere.
Basic, but with all the facilities. Fantastic location for walking around the area
The pre-arrival email was very helpful & we had no problem finding the location, parking & using entry codes. Theres a large secure garden area with table, chairs if you'd like to enjoy the evening air or take the dog out. Theres also a path right next to the property for a walk into the heath. The room was simple but all the essentials were provided. tea, coffee, cups, plates, cutlery, towels, shower gel, kettle, fridge, tv. As long as you dont forget your toothbrush, you'll be fine! :-) Its a self-service type of accommodation, so we didnt see any staff at all, but everything worked smoothly. I think there's a wash room & kitchen there too, but we didnt use it. Id totally recommend it if you want an affordable option. You can walk into Walberswick, its about 20 mins to the pub. Walking along the road isnt ideal, but its not that busy & your into the 20mph zone soon enough. Bring a torch for your walk back. We ate at The Anchor & it was great. We went on for an extra beer at The Bell & that had a tradition feel. Both are good. Be sure to stop at Black Dog Deli for breakfast, theres a couple of parking spots in the road next to it. Theres a large paid parking in the village riverside, but its APP only.
The area
Stained toilet, shower going cold midway, freezer thick ice, fridge smelly, bed uncomfotable house nothing like pictures everywhere old & tired.
Absolutely amazing. Having stayed previously in a smaller room this larger one is better. The fenced garden is great for dog owners.
Extremely slow broadband. But obviously the property is in the middle of know where.
Just perfect for walking and with bikes.
The lodge is extremely well located as we have dogs & there's so many walks on the doorstep. The room we had was the budget room & was well equipped with several choices of breakfast including bagels cereal & porridge, also we were left juice, milk tea & coffee.A hairdryer is also in the room along with washing machine & tumble dryer in the wash house which was extremely welcome after we'd been to the beach 1 day.
Can't think of anything I didn't like,
Location is great, 3 minutes to Walberswick with parking. Lots of space and dog friendly. It's pretty simply furnished but good for a night or two. Having tea coffee and a biscuit in the kitchen was very nice.
There was a pump or something in the room next door that made a racket, but not once.our neighbours had gone to bed.
Lovely room and comfortable beds, lots for breakfast, nice shower, dog loved it
Basic - very.
Location peaceful kitchen equipment walks from the door kitchen facilities
.Hot water pump/pipes noisy sometimes. Property needed some tlc
Perfect location for nearby festival with parking. Spacious room with extremely useful kitchen style facilities (a fridge was fantastic)and really generous food items, thank you! Good to have sitting chairs and dining chairs and a table. Great shower in spacious shower room. Extremely good value.
The bed was slightly uncomfortable and there was some noise from a child running around the room upstairs. Neither of these would put me off returning!
A great space for 3 members of the family; good supplies of food and bathroom bits; all comfy, easy place to be in a beautiful spot.
All good, as ever.
easy to find the lodge directions were spot on ,had complimentary breakfast , mainly milk, bread , jams , tea and coffee as well ,comfy bed , big bathroom , tv
wifi wasn't so great but not really a problem
I liked the cost. The shower once I figured it out was strong and a good temperature. The garden is securely enclosed so that my dog (I had ground floor rooms) could roam safely. I could park my bike safely behind the house. I was very quiet.
The distance to Walberswick was very doable by bike but I realised once I was there that it was still a bit too far to do in the rain and part of it is dangerous as cars speed past (so not good in the evening). A small cockroach scuttled along the floor. I was startled by a fellow guest who stayed in the triangular hut; I had taken this hut for a shed (there is no sign on it to say otherwise) and found myself staring straight at her; we were both very embarrassed.
Great location, very spacious bedroom, shower room. Hot shower, comfortable bed. WiFi, TV, Kettle, microwave, fridge plus cutlery & crockery. Everything you need for a comfortable stay.
It was perfect for what I needed.
We loved how spacious the studio was, huge modern bathroom, very cute kitchenette with all utensils you need for morning coffee and snack, host left little jams and jug of milk and fresh orange juice in the fridge which was very nice. Road not too busy so we had good sleep
-
This is a wonderful place to stay. A stone’s throw away from southwold and Aldeburgh. It is spacious and very well appointed (I’d happily live there!). It is simply furnished but you want for nothing. Plenty of hot water for showers, a good size kitchen, a nice lounge and comfy beds.
The Wi-Fi was intermittent but it wasn’t the end of the world.
We stayed on the Ground floor, so benefitted from two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and bathroom - each had a rustic charm and was clean, tidy and had a homely feel. The kitchen is well stocked, with all the utensils and pots and pans you could want.
The facilities are a little basic - but at this price it would be churlish to expect much more. The shower was a little too small, and the water seemed to come and go in waves while showering. It took me a llittle while to work out how to use the telly too - but I think a previous occupant had left it in an odd setting, and the cable had come out of the back. Once sorted it worked fine - it's just in an odd place, completely perpendicular to the sofa. But like I say, small things in the overall scheme of things
Really great accommodation. Everything you could possibly need. Great location, spacious, clean and comfortable.
Lovely clean room and good communication from host
The cupboard on the living room had a water pump for the building which was very loud when other guests were using water. Wooden staircase also loud from other guests, both of which made it difficult with a 4 month old baby
Simple, ideal for our needs. Fridge was most welcome.
The plumbing is noisy - people upstairs running water at all hours
I could talk for days about how brilliant The Lodge is!! This is our second time staying here and it is just as brilliant as before. The bedrooms are immaculate and the bed is extremely comfy! My partner and I stayed in the twin room but didn’t mind at all having our own separate comfy beds tee hee! The Lodge is great value for money too, with a big spacious bathroom, washing up facilities, little Kitchenette area, fresh breakfast and tea items, tables, armchairs, nice views of the farm, great parking and a big lawn for our dog to play in. The dog charge is also only £10 which I think is brilliant as we have been charged £30 a night in previous places! Our dog loves it here too and enjoys the lawn. We briefly met the cleaner this time who is really lovely and kind. The location is great and if you hire bikes it is less than a 5 minute cycle into Walberswick. We even were able to deliver a last minute parcel here which arrived in a designated parcel box! The house is really simple to get into with the key code and key boxes, and we found that with the thick stone walls we barely heard any other guests. We really hope that this place stays here for a long time as we will now come here every year without fail. We haven’t stopped talking to everyone about how brilliant this place is and we really thank you to the owners/cleaners for all the effort you put into making this place so brilliant. (We would also love to know if you make your butter yourself as it is fab!!)
Nothing, it is perfect! :)
Nice sized room very near to Walberswick and Southwold, at a very reasonable rate.
Stairs up to room not too steep, but can knock your head on ceiling part way up.
Location, room
Nothing
We've stayed here quite a few times. It suits us as we bring our dog. It's clean, comfortable, and has everything we need for a short stay. It's a lovely rural location on the outskirts of Walberswick, which can easily be walked to across heathland.
It would be really nice to have slightly bigger and better towels (the hand towels are fine) but the larger ones are still pretty small.
The Lodge is in a great location for visiting Walberswick and Southwold. It's a value for money venue. The contents and facilities in the room are not high-end, but it was clean, comfortable, and well thought out. We had a much larger room than expected and even a small sofa. There were some provisions left for a continental breakfast and a kettle, toaster, and fridge with an ice compartment. Good news on a day with 32-degree temperatures. There are mentions of an untidy outside space in other reviews, but it is a working farm and had a nice space at the front of the house and plenty of parking. You can walk into Walberswick but it was quite a busy road for somewhere that is a dead end, presumably with people heading to onecof the two lovely pubs or to access the dunes at Walberswick or the ferry or walking route to Southwold. There are alternatives to getting to Walberswick on public footpaths, one across the common from further up the road after the house and one opposite the house, which connects to a quieter road going into Walberswick. Just a warning, though, it's further than you think to actually get to the coast, pubs, and tearooms as the village is very spread out. It's a beautiful village, a bit like stepping back in time, with hollyhocks outside the cottage gardens. We really enjoyed our stay and found it ideal for our needs.
Squeaky bathroom door, traffic on the road in the daytime, it went quiet at night, so didn't disturb our sleep.
Location was good.Reasonably priced. Cean and comfortable, particularly STATUE room.Good value for money.
Minimal breakfast selection. No fan in hot airless room.Noise from dogss early in the morning Horn on bedroom door hazardous.
Great location and great value for money.
