Äußerst freundlicher Empfang mit selbstgemachten Erfrischungsgetränk. Die Zimmer waren sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet und alles hat gut geduftet. Das Outdoor-Badezimmer war ein Erlebnis. Es gab einen schönen Pool. Das Frühstück war ausgesprochen gut und sehr ausgiebig, so auch das Abendessen. Gut organisierte Safari, mit einem sehr kompetenten Fahrer/Guide konnte vor Ort gebucht werden. Wir haben viele Tiere gesehen.

Alles war perfekt! Der kurze Stromausfall in der Früh hat nicht gestört, damit muss man in Sri Lanka rechnen. Eine Taschenlampe im Gepäck ist daher empfehlenswert.

We absolutely loved our stay at Amba Kola. Jannik and his mother were probably the most caring and warm-hearted hosts we have ever met. Jannik helped us with everything, from transfers to organizing our private safari with a fantastic guide. The cooking class with his mother was definitely one of the most authentic experiences we had in Sri Lanka. But what really made our stay special were the little personal touches. When we left Jannik gave us a farewell letter, including little things we had talked about during our stay. It was incredibly thoughtful and showed us how genuinely interested he is in every single guest. You really don’t feel like just another guest at Amba Kola. We felt genuinely welcomed and cared for from the first moment until we left. We will definitely remember this place and our wonderful hosts for a long time!

Family run hotel providing exceptional service going above and beyond to make their guests have a fantastic time. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Food made by Janiks mum is amazing. We went on the safari organised by Janik. Our guide was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable it was a great experience. Rooms very comfortable and peaceful. We loved meeting the family pets as well especially Oreo the cat!

Gorgeous place with a lovely family, delicious food, cute doggos and relaxing vibes. Super close to the national park with a great driver to show the elephants - we saw so many! Our only regret is that we didn't book longer. Definitely book here :)

A beautiful guesthouse with a lovely pool, conveniently located near Udawalawe National Park. The room was comfortable, and the bed was very comfortable as well. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor shower. We went on a 3-hour safari, which we really enjoyed. The service was impeccable and very attentive. The food was creative and delicious, and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was also excellent and very generous. If we ever return to Udawalawe, we would definitely stay here again without hesitation.

Janek, mama, tarzan, laifu, cass, kalu and oreo were the most wonderful hosts. They went out of their way to cater for us. Cooking class was so much fun, safari was done very respectfully. Mamas cooking was incredible and they were very dedicated in accommodating my dietary requirements. We spent the remainder of our sri lanka trip looking for a comparable experience to Amba Kola, but none were as good. Looking forward to returning one day.

We hebben hier een fantastisch verblijf gehad, niet ver gelegen van Udawalawe NP. Bij aankomst zijn we met de eigenaar een bootsafari gaan maken. Op de weg heen en terug mochten onze zoons op zijn scooter rijden (met hem achterop) door de rijstvelden. Dit was een geweldige ervaring voor ze. We hebben hier heerlijk gegeten (verse reuze-garnalen, aanrader!), en de volgende dag een jeepsafari gedaan met een hele goede chauffeur die oog had voor alle grote en kleine dieren in Udawalawe park. Dichtbij een familie olifanten kunnen komen, zonder op te dringen en weinig andere jeeps in de buurt. Erg fijn verblijf met een heerlijk zwembad, bij geweldige mensen die hart hebben voor hun verblijf en de natuur.

Die Unterkunft wird von einem Mutter-Sohn-Duo geführt. Beide sind unglaublich herzlich, zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit, sodass man sich sofort wohl und willkommen fühlt. Es war eine einzigartige Erfahrung. Die Unterkunft ist gut in der Nähe vom Nationalpark gelegen. Sowohl das Frühstück als auch das Abendessen waren sehr lecker und authentisch. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen und können diese besondere Unterkunft uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

We had a fantastic stay at Amba Kola. The family was very welcoming and went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. They organised our safari and we had the best Sri Lankan home cooked food.

Jannick and his wonderful Mum were both absolutely adorable, doing everything to make us happy. Our room and Their home were beautiful — vibrant yet relaxing — and we felt safe, cosy, and completely at peace there. The dinner and breakfast Jannick’s mum made us were out of this world! We were so touched by their kindness and care — they even gave us flowers and a very thoughtful note as we left. A thousand thanks to them both — we highly recommend this wonderful home stay and wish we could have stayed longer - we hope very much to come back and wish them both so much success!

Alles war perfekt… Yanik und seine Mutter tun alles, damit man sich wohl fühlt. Es ist kaum in Worte zu fassen wieviel Aufmerksamkeit und Herzlichkeit man geschenkt bekommt, wieviel Mühe sie sich geben, damit dein Aufenthalt wirklich gelungen ist. Es war der beste Ort, an den wir kommen konnten!

Wunderschöne Unterkunft, super nette Gastgeber, leckeres Essen, schöne Zimmer, alles sehr sauber und einfach total herzlich. Wir würden sofort wiederkommen! Die Safari war auch sehr schön und zu einem fairen Preis.

ALLES! Wir sind viel unterwegs, aber noch nirgends haben wir uns so wohlgefühlt wie bei Janik & seiner Mama! Das Essen ist soooo lecker, der Pool toll zum Abkühlen und die Zimmer groß und sehr sauber. Die Safari war top, wir haben so viele Tiere gesehen und wir haben selten so lecker gegessen, wie nach unserem Kochkurs! 🫶🏼 Für unsere Flitterwochen wurden wir zusätzlich mit Kuchen und einem geschmückten Bett verwöhnt und wir hoffen, dass wir irgendwann zurück kommen können!

Please stay here at Amba kola! Very nice family, extremely good service. We had 2 sick kids and they were so helpful. The first very good bed during our Sri Lanka trip and nice food. The cooking class by the mother of the house is very nice. Please Ask for Tharanga to be your driver/ guide in udawalawe, he is very knowledgeable and cares a lot about the elephants.

Die Familie und das Team sind außergewöhnlich hilfsbereit und freundlich. Das Zimmer war groß und sauber. Die ganze Anlage ist sehr geschmackvoll und der Pool ist auch schön. Die liebenswerte Mum hat mir mit Medizin, Tee und Suppe geholfen, als ich Magenprobleme bekam. Wenn ihr Magenprobleme habt, dann hoffentlich bei dieser Unterkunft. Super Guide bei der Safari. Wir haben alle Tiere gesehen inklusive Warane.

La familia es encantadora, nos trataron súper bien. El sitio es estupendo. Recomiendo el safari, vimos muchos elefantes! La ducha al aire libre es muy guay :)

Amazing stay at Amba Kola! The food was delicious, the pool was beautiful and we loved both the safari tour and cooking class. The WiFi was also great with Starlink. Lovely staff, peaceful setting and an all-round perfect stay. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful stay at Amba Kola! The hosts were incredibly kind, welcoming, and always happy to help with anything we needed. They made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We were spoiled beyond measure at Amba Kola Lodge by Janik, his mother, and the entire team. It all started with a thoughtful welcome snack, followed by an unforgettable cooking class with his lovely mother and a fantastic meal we prepared together. We also enjoyed enriching conversations with all of them that went far beyond small talk. The charming dining area on the veranda, the outstanding Sri Lankan cuisine, the beautiful, high-quality rooms, and the inviting pool made our stay truly special. One morning, incense sticks were even brought to my yoga mat – such a thoughtful gesture. To top it all off, we were given flowers and a very personal letter when we left. It simply couldn’t have been any better.

Luxury meets family stay. We absolutely loved staying here! Our room and the hotel as a whole was beautiful. However the people were what made this experience the best. The owner and the people working here were so lovely. Everything felt personal and we were looked after as if we were family. I would recommend everyone to stay here. The food was also amazing (they offer cooking classes too!). In addition to everything, they drove us to see everything to see in the area. We even had a private safari. Abbiamo trascorso un soggiorno meraviglioso in questa guesthouse. Janik e tutta la sua famiglia ci hanno accolto con una gentilezza e un'ospitalità davvero eccezionali, facendoci sentire come a casa fin dal primo momento. Uno dei momenti più belli è stata la cooking class con la mamma di Janik: è stata un'esperienza divertente, autentica e davvero coinvolgente, che ci ha permesso di scoprire i sapori e i segreti della cucina srilankese. Abbiamo anche partecipato al safari organizzato dalla struttura con una guida esperta, che ci ha fatto vivere un'esperienza indimenticabile. Abbiamo avuto la fortuna di osservare da vicino tantissimi elefanti, compresi diversi cuccioli, oltre a molta altra fauna locale. Tutti i pasti preparati in guesthouse erano deliziosi, con piatti sempre freschi e ricchi di sapore. Per concludere le giornate, la splendida piscina immersa nella tranquillità è stata il luogo perfetto per rilassarsi. Consigliamo questa guesthouse a chiunque voglia vivere un'esperienza autentica in Sri Lanka, circondato da persone meravigliose e da un'atmosfera familiare. Speriamo davvero di tornare!

We highly recommend this place for the authenticity and frienly atmosphere. They have very nice and comfortable rooms. Food was excellent. They arranged safari tour by their own safari car. We also enjoyed cooking course with mamma chef. We will return back on day.

We had such a wonderful stay at Amba Kola and truly felt at home from the very beginning. The hotel is beautifully designed with so much attention to detail — modern, stylish, and surrounded by a peaceful atmosphere. Our room was spacious and clean, and we especially loved the outdoor bathroom and the handmade soaps. The pool area was also perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The food was absolutely delicious. Every meal was freshly prepared and full of flavor, and you could really feel the care and passion behind it. One of our highlights was the cooking class, which was such a fantastic and memorable experience. The host was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. He organized tours for us, gave us great recommendations, and always made sure we had everything we needed. The location close to Udawalawe National Park was also perfect.

Wij werden vriendelijk ontvangen door Jannik en zijn moeder, wat een ontzettend lieve mensen. Ze doen er werkelijk alles aan om je verblijf een succes te maken! Het verblijf is netjes en sfeervol, de kamer comfortabel en het zwembad wel even lekker met de hoge temperaturen. Wij hebben een kookcursus gedaan bij "Sri Lankan Mama", deze dame weet hoe je authentiek Sri Lankaanse curry's maakt een fantastische ervaring! In de ochtend hadden we een safari geboekt via Jannik. We werden netjes optijd opgehaald en hadden een kundige gids mee die ons vanalles kon vertellen over het park en de dieren. Deze mensen zijn hun beoordelingen dubbel en dwars waard, ik zou Amba Cola Udawalawa aanbevelen voor een verblijf en safari in Udawalawe.

The family that run it were exceptional, so friendly and helpful and welcoming. I had a little sunburn and they brought me fresh aloe Vera from the plant to the room to help. Beds very comfy!!! They were very helpful and the food was great. All cooked fresh. The giant prawns were magnificent and huge!! We wish we could have stayed longer.

Booking.com directions to the property are 100m off. So driver struggled to find it initially.

The whole aesthetics of the property is so welcoming as well as Janick and is family, clean, friendly and quite modern. They also took us on the safari and to the elephant transit centre, both were amazing and the guides were extremely knowledgeable, highly recommend booking your tours with amba kola and janick

Bei so vielen guten Rezessionen könnte man skeptisch werden - aber es ist wirklich so, Janik und seine Mama sind der Wahnsinn. So viel Hilfsbereitschaft und echte Freundlichkeit, findet man selten. Von der Begrüßung bis zur Verabschiedung hat einfach alles gepasst. Wir hatten ein Reifenproblem und Janik hat sich für uns sofort um die perfekte Lösung gekümmert. Der Kochkurs war super und die Empfehlung des Amba Estate in Ella ein Volltreffer. Danke für alles!!

Der Aufenthalt hier war das Highlight unserer Sri Lanka-Rundreise. Wir wurden hier nicht nur als Gäste, sondern als Freunde empfangen. Hier nur einige der Dinge, die bei Amba Kola einfach nur perfekt waren: - Komfortables Zimmer mit Klimaanlage und coolem "Outdoor-Badezimmer" - wunderschöner Essbereich mit köstlichen Speisen, Cocktails und ganz viel Liebe - Safari im Udawalawa (direkt vor der Tür) mit erfahrenem Guide, der uns viel zu den Tieren erzählen konnte - mega toller Kochkurs mit Herz & Leidenschaft - Super liebe und gut gepflegte Hunde & Katzen (leider ist das in Sri Lanka nicht selbstverständlich) Alles in allem ein wundervoller Aufenthalt bei Freunden! Wenn wir könnten, würden wir noch mehr als 10 Sterne geben! Vielen Dank für diese tolle Zeit!

We went to the elephant station, a 3hr safari and did an amazing cooking class. I can't recommend this place enough. The pool was an added bonus. The room was spacious and comfortable and food as good as it gets. Especially when you make it yourself.

I would HIGHLY recommend staying at Amba Kola hotel. We were blown away by the incredible hospitality, the staff were so personable and caring - they made amazing effort for our anniversary to feel special with personal touches. The room was comfortable and clean, the pool was clean and nice. We tried their award winning cooking class which was informative and delicious. The Hotel is very close to the Udawalawe national park entrance and the hotel provides a great safari. We can’t recommend this hotel enough!

Notre séjour de trop courte durée a été formidable. La bienveillance et gentillesse avec laquelle nous avons été accueillis nous a beaucoup touché. L’hôtel est un lieu paisible et familial, très bien entretenu, avec des chiens adorables qui font office de garde du corps pendant nos balades. La piscine parfaite. Tous les commentaires précédents sont tellement vrais. C’est très agréable et reposant de se retrouver là bas. La cuisinière est excellente. Si nous avions eu le temps nous aurions pris des cours de cuisine !

Wij kwamen uit de drukte van de zuidelijke stranden hier in een oase van rust. Heerlijk een middag aan het zwembad gelegen met een boek. Strandlakens kregen we van de accommodatie en een biertje werd bij ons ligbed gebracht. Riante slaapkamer en het mooiste: de buitendouche onder de palmbomen. Het ontbijt en diner waren ook erg smakelijk. Safari in Udawalawe was ook goed geregeld en maar een paar minuten rijden. Toch lekker als je voor die reis ‘s ochtends niet nog vroeger hoeft op de staan.

Ik kan niets bedenken. Alles is top en de gastheer en zijn moeder zijn schatten.

Einer der besten Unterkünfte, die wir hatten. Unglaublich freundliche, zuvorkommende Gastgeber. Janik und seine Mutter haben uns jeden Wunsch von den Augen abgelesen. Sie hat uns zudem die besten Mango und Ananas Smoothies zubereitet, auch das Abendessen und Frühstück waren sehr lecker und reichhaltig. Janik hat uns eine Safari organisiert, die super war - unser Safari-Guide war sehr kundig und hat uns viele tolle Tiere gezeigt. Die Zimmer und die Unterkunft selbst waren liebevoll eingerichtet mit wunderbarer Artwork. Duschen konnte man unter freiem Himmel mit Blick auf Bananenbäume. Abends saßen wir auch noch mit Janik zusammen und haben einen schönen Abend verbracht. Eine sehr gastfreundliche Erfahrung!

Besser geht es nicht. Janik und besonders seine Mutter haben alles dafür getan, unseren Aufenthalt besonders zu machen. Tolle moderne Zimmer, richtig sauber, ganz fantastische Menschen, unglaublich gutes Essen - es war von Anfang bis Ende alles perfekt.

Wir hatten einen rundum wunderbaren Aufenthalt und können diese Unterkunft von Herzen weiterempfehlen! Janik war unglaublich zuvorkommend, freundlich und stets darum bemüht, dass es uns an nichts fehlt. Man merkt sofort, wie viel Wert er darauf legt, dass sich seine Gäste wohlfühlen. Auch seine ganze Familie ist außergewöhnlich herzlich und freundlich – wir haben uns direkt willkommen gefühlt. Ein absolutes Highlight war die von Janik organisierte Safari mit einem privaten Fahrer. Er hat sich wirklich große Mühe gegeben, damit wir so viel wie möglich sehen auch hat er viel zu den Tieren erklärt und erklären können, wenn wir Rückfragen hatten– und das hat sich gelohnt! Wir konnten zahlreiche Elefanten, sogar mit ihren Babys, beobachten. Er fragte immer, ob alles okay sei. Gleichzeitig hat er auch auf kleine Details wie besondere Vögel aufmerksam gemacht, was das Erlebnis noch besonderer gemacht hat. Janik war immer aufmerksam und hat regelmäßig nachgefragt, ob wir noch etwas brauchen oder uns etwas fehlt. Besonders toll fanden wir auch, dass er uns seinen Roller ausgeliehen hat, damit wir ganz unkompliziert zum Elephant Transit fahren konnten. Ein weiteres großes Highlight war das Essen: Seine Mama ist eine fantastische Köchin – das beste Essen unserer gesamten Reise! Wir haben auch an ihrer Cooking Class teilgenommen, die wir nur empfehlen können. Mit viel Geduld und tollen Erklärungen hat sie uns gezeigt, wie man authentisches sri-lankisches Essen zubereitet. Es hat unglaublich viel Spaß gemacht und war eine tolle Erfahrung. Der Pool ist neu und sehr sauber – perfekt, um nach der Safari zu entspannen. Auch die Zimmer sind sehr gepflegt und sauber, sodass man sich rundum wohlfühlen kann. Zum Abschluss haben wir von Janiks Mama sogar einen liebevoll gestalteten Blumenstrauß mit einer persönlichen Nachricht bekommen – eine unglaublich schöne Geste, die noch einmal gezeigt hat, wie herzlich und aufmerksam diese Familie ist.

Perfect stay for a safari! Could not have asked for more. The food was amazing and everyone there so welcoming. The room was excellent, loved the outdoor shower. They also did my laundry and you can go for a swim in the pool. The host also organised my jeep for the safari and the prices were super reasonable. 10/10 would recommend!

The hospitality from Janik, his mum and the whole team was outstanding. This place feels like hone within the first 30 mins. An absolute joy of a place to stay, so much so felt a bit flat when we had to leave . Nothing was too much bother, from booking safari and cooking class, to going out of their way to make us feel super comfortable for our two night stay. Wir wurden über unseren ganzen Aufenthalt so herzlich aufgenommen, sodass wir uns einfach unglaublich wohlgefühlt haben. Yanik war so zuvorkommend und hat uns sogar ein schöneres Zimmer vorbereitet als wir gebucht haben. Das Bett was superbequem, das Bad superschön. Am Tag unserer Anreise hatten wir dann einen wunderbaren Kochkurs im Freien mit vielen nützlichen Infos und einem super leckeren Rice and Curry am Ende. Nach unserer Morgensafari am nächsten Tag bekamen wir noch ein superlecker authentisches Frühstück 😊 Man hat einfach geschmeckt dass es mit Liebe zubereitet war. Wir sind super begeistert und können es jedem empfehlen einen Aufenthalt hier zu buchen.

Wunderschöne Unterkunft mit tollem Pool und sehr lieben Gastgebern! Das Zimmer mit Outdoordusche war außergewöhnlich, extrem sauber und das Bett eines der gemütlichsten der ganzen Reise. Die Nähe zum Udawalawe National Park ist perfekt, um die Safari am morgen früh zu starten.

The loving and caring family who run this place, an absolute highlight of my Sri Lanka travels. Swarna’s food is delicious, and Tissa and Janik made excursions to Elephant Safari, Transit Home, etc super easy.

Die Unterkunft ist extrem schön, gepflegt und sehr sauber. Besonders hervorzuheben sind jedoch die Gastgeber – eine unglaublich herzliche Familie (Eltern und Sohn), die alles dafür tun, den Aufenthalt so angenehm wie möglich zu gestalten. Man fühlt sich sofort willkommen. Die Mutter ist eine großartige Köchin – alle Speisen werden frisch zubereitet und sind wirklich hervorragend. Ein weiteres Highlight sind die vielen liebevollen Details, wie z. B. selbstgemachte Pflegeprodukte. Außerdem verfügen sie über einen eigenen Jeep und organisieren problemlos Safaris oder Fahrten zum Elephant Feeding Ground. Insgesamt kann ich mir kaum vorstellen, dass es eine bessere Unterkunft in Udawalawe gibt.

Gar nichts – ich wüsste wirklich nicht, was man hier verbessern könnte.

Our stay here was easily one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we checked in, we were looked after by Janik, who runs the place with his mother; he is incredibly friendly and hospitable, making us feel at home immediately. The hotel itself is a little oasis of calm and peace. We unfortunately arrived in the evening and had to leave the next day, but if they’d had the availability, we would have gladly stayed an extra night just to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The location is also perfect for the safari. Janik organized everything for us, providing a great jeep and driver, which made the whole experience completely hassle-free. To top it off, the food was delicious, honestly one of the best curries I’ve had during our entire trip and the beds were the most comfortable ones we slept in by far. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Abbiamo soggiornato una notte in questo splendido hotel a conduzione familiare. Location bellissima, staff gentilissimo con Janic e la sua famiglia che faranno di tutto per farvi sentire a vostro agio. Organizzano safari ed escursioni, posizione super per il safari nel parco di udalawawe. L’hotel disponde anche di una piscina. Abbiamo anche provato il ristorante e la cena era ottima (grazie mamma di Janic!).

Die Unterkunft wird von unglaublich lieben Menschen geführt, wodurch wir uns zu jeder Zeit sehr wohlgefühlt haben. Die Zimmer sind schön und liebevoll eingerichtet. Bei Bedarf wurde für uns sogar frisch Mittag- oder Abendessen gekocht, sehr lecker und zu absolut fairen Preisen. Auch bei der Organisation eines Taxis für unsere Weiterreise wurde uns sofort geholfen. Außerdem konnten wir direkt über die Unterkunft eine Safari buchen, die auch direkt von dort gestartet ist. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen!

Wonderful family atmosphere Super welcoming - Janik and staff were very attentive at all times and could not do enough. The home cooked food from his mum was amazing. All excursions were available from the property and the safari into Udawalawe park did not disappoint- many elephants and other wildlife We will be recommending this place widely to all friends and family

Wir waren für eine Nacht dort und es hat uns wirklich an nichts gefehlt! Das Essen war super und die Safari wurde für uns organisiert. Es war ein sehr entspannter Aufenthalt! Alle dort sind sehr freundlich und unser Zimmer war sehr schön und sauber!

Questo posto è superlativo. Non potete non andarci se volete visitare il vicino parco nazionale. La struttura è molto carina immersa nel verde con anche la piscina a disposizione. Tutto curato nei dettagli con grande attenzione alla sostenibilità. La stanza grande con una porta finestra che dà sul giardino (che è chiuso e non ci sono problemi di privacy), arredata benissimo, letto comodo con zanzariera, il bagno anche molto caratteristico e con prodotti da bagno fatti in casa ottimi. La cena una delle migliori della vacanza. La signora cucina da Dio e mi è dispiaciuto non avere tempo per partecipare a una delle sue lezioni di cucina. Che dire poi dell'accoglienza e della gentilezza della famiglia che gestisce la struttura e delle persone che ci lavorano. Mai vista una cosa del genere. Dico solo che hanno capito che amo i fiori e ci hanno fatto trovare dei fiori del giardino a colazione colti al mattino dalla signora con un pensiero scritto apposta per noi. Noi senza parole. Consigliatissimo.

Non avere delle notti in più per restare.

We were intrigued to stay here as we had never stayed in a 10-rated hotel on Booking.com. At first we were a bit underwhelmed but the charming staff, great food, wonderful room and amazing location next to the safari park soon win you over. Nice friendy dogs wandering around too
