The Yard Hiriketiya

The location is incredible and feels like you are in your own private space. The rooms are really in keeping with the area and clean and there is a great communal garden and kitchen. So much amazing wildlife in the trees monkeys by the door!

The pillows were a bit hard for me and despite saying they had other options there weren’t any. Really no big deal! Only other downside is the upstairs room has a tin roof so when it rains it’s very noisy! But that’s island life :)

Lage ist perfekt! Wir brauchen nur 3min zum Meer und man ist wirklich direkt mittendrin. Wir hatten das Studio mit Gartenblick und haben somit nichts von der Straße gehört! Am Morgen kann man dann Affen von der Küche besichtigen das war toll! Es wurde jeden Tag gereinigt ohne Nachfrage und Wäsche konnten wir auch für 5€ komplett machen lassen. Es war wirklich die perfekte Unterkunft und in unserer bisherigen Reise war das die beste Lage 😍 Wer einen Pool möchte dem empfehlen wir den La Playa Club direkt am Meer dort gibt es einen Pool :) Zufuß braucht man da 3min hin. In der Nebensaison (August) ist der Hiriketyia Beach der beste Ort im Süden!!

Da es das Dachgeschoss war musste die Klima 24/7 laufen da es sonst sehr heiß wird. Klima hat aber immer funktioniert! Ansonsten war alles super!

הזרם במקלחת היה חלש, והמים החמים עבדו בגלים. הברז של המקלחת טפטף כל הלילה ולא הצלחנו לסגור אותו. מניח שבעיה נקודתית כי באמת מקום שווה

The accomodation had a great vibe and was a perfect location for accessing the beach, restaurants, shops and cafes.

The only disadvantage was the bathroom floor tended to stay wet because of the placement of the shower between the basin and toilet but this was by far outweighed with all the positives.

Wonderful staff, great location, cute little place depending on the room that one gets. Private balcony was a really plus for room 6. Common area with couch is a winner.

Requires attention in terms of facilities. Hot water in the shower was a trickle, frequent power outages, construction work around is noisy. Bathroom door couldn’t be locked from the inside (room 6).

Alles ziet er prachtig uit, er is een heerlijke buitenruimte en keuken waar je gebruik van kunt maken. Locatie is ook top, supercentraal en toch rustig.

Look no further! Perfect little gem in Hiriketiya, best place I've stayed at in my 2 months in Sri Lanka. Very clean and well decorated, nice spots for a work session with great wifi as well, and nice social common areas. I was in the room on the ground floor which some people say is a bit noisy. I thought it was actually very quiet - except for maybe the noise from reception in the morning, but not too early.

Maybe some more shelves in the room would be good.

Everything was beautifully designed and decorated down to the smallest detail. The place was absolutely lovely. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was cozy, comfortable, and charming. It's right in the center of the village. Everything was fantastic.

Great location. Staff were super helpful and always on hand. My room was cleaned spotless daily and all the facilities were in working order. There is a shared kitchen space for tea and coffee in the building.

I had the ground floor room at the front of the property which was directly behind reception and the room door looked straight onto to the shared facilities. I felt like I didn’t have a lot of privacy coming and going from my room.

The staff were so friendly, welcome drink on arrival was delicious and coffee in the morning was great! Perfect location and beautiful room and bathroom!

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Gorgeous kitchen and communal lounge out the back. Great location would definitely stay again.

Wir hatten das Studio für unseren Aufenthalt in Hiriketiya gebucht und waren insgesamt sehr zufrieden. Das Studio war schön eingerichtet, sauber und bot alles, was man für einen angenehmen Aufenthalt benötigt. Die Lage ist hervorragend und perfekt, um Hiriketiya und den Strand zu erkunden. Während unseres Aufenthalts fanden Bauarbeiten statt, über die wir vorab nicht informiert waren. Trotzdem möchten wir besonders das außergewöhnlich freundliche und herzliche Team hervorheben. Als wir uns aufgrund der Bauarbeiten dazu entschieden haben, eine Nacht früher abzureisen, reagierte der Besitzer unglaublich kulant und verständnisvoll. Er erstattete uns nicht nur die zusätzliche Nacht, sondern lud uns sogar noch zum Essen ein. Eine solche Gastfreundschaft erlebt man wirklich nicht oft. Genau diese Herzlichkeit und der tolle Service haben unseren Aufenthalt geprägt. Deshalb können wir die Unterkunft trotz der kleinen Einschränkungen guten Gewissens weiterempfehlen und bedanken uns für die schöne Zeit.

Ein kleiner Kritikpunkt war das Badezimmer: Nach dem Duschen stand leider regelmäßig Wasser im gesamten Bad, da die Dusche nicht optimal abgetrennt war.

Très très jolie maison, les coins communs sont super jolis et apportent une plus value au logement. Toute la décoration est super jolie, dans le détail. Le personnel était super sympa 😊

Great accommodation in the centre of Hiriketya. Good value for money. The rooms were cool and comfortable. The staff were excellent - extremely helpful and friendly.

Amazing staff — super helpful and welcoming! The location is perfect, just a short walk from Hiri Beach and all the best cafes and party spots. They don’t have their own kitchen, but they offered us complimentary breakfast at a lovely nearby café for one day. Great experience overall!

For one entire day there was no power in the whole town, which wasn’t the property’s fault. They do have a small generator for backup, but it kept shutting off.

Had the most fabulous time here. Lovely little hotel right near the beach and unbelievably quiet. Beautiful decor. Can’t wait to come back. It’s also so nice to have a full kitchen with a coffee machine at your disposal.

It was all great except for very hard mattress in one of the rooms. I moved and mattress in new room was perfect.

Hôtel à deux pas des plages et en plein centre ville. Joli décoration, personnel très accueillant.

La chambre donne sur la rue principale, beaucoup de bruit la nuit, chambre sombre. La salle de bain et les toilettes sont extérieurs, on s’est retrouvé plusieurs fois nez à nez avec les singes.

Amazing location, very central easy to walk around and come back to the room to chill or shower. Cute monkeys, lovely staff.

The bed was the most uncomfortable bed of our entire trip, woke up sore every morning as it was so hard, other than this was a good stay.

This property is absolutely beautiful, both the rooms and the common areas. There's a fully equipped kitchen, that's clean and has coffee, tea, big fridges, etc., so it would be a great place to stay even longer term. Everything is so aesthetic and clean, the staff is very helpful and kind - they helped me rent a scooter, and the owner also owns a very well-known (and highly recommended) restaurant called Malu. The location is perfect, you can walk everywhere, but it's also not loud at night. The room and bathroom were very comfortable and had everything I could need. The only thing I'd say is that the room I was staying in was right by the outdoor/garden seating area, where some guests liked to socialise. I'd say it would be a great room for someone looking to meet other people easily, but if you prefer more quiet/private space, you might want to request a room upstairs :)

The bathroom and the cleanliness

I had mixed feelings about my stay here. The location is excellent—just a 2-minute walk to the beach and very close to shops and restaurants, which made getting around super convenient. When I first entered the property, it honestly felt like a “wow” experience.

However, things started going downhill after that. The bathroom had a strong unpleasant smell, and there was a water leakage throughout the night, which made it very uncomfortable and disturbed our sleep. The service was also disappointing. The receptionist was often engaged on her phone and didn’t seem attentive. While I understand it was my responsibility to track checkout time, a simple reminder would have helped. We ended up returning about an hour late (around 12:30 PM) after getting caught up outside, and were charged for an entire extra day. What was more disappointing than the charge itself was the lack of courtesy and empathy. When we tried to request some consideration, the interaction felt rude and unprofessional, with no real effort to handle the situation in a customer-friendly way.

Great location - short walk to the beach and loads of nearby restaurants. The decor of the rooms and hotel was very well done. The complimentary water, tea and coffee was a lovely bonus. There was also a nice communal garden area to relax. Air con worked very well to keep the room comfortable. The staff were always very accommodating whenever we needed anything. Overall I would say great value for money.

It's outside of the owners control but if you are a light sleeper this may not be the place for you. On our first night the road noise was very loud which did interrupt our sleep - the owners kindly moved us to another room. On other nights we were often woken up by monkeys jumping on the tin roof.

Et behagelig sted å oppholde seg. Svært hyggelig personalet. Veldig nært både stranda og andre fasiliteter. Føler også man er trygg ettersom hotellet er litt lukket. Anbefaler på det største, enten om du trenger et par dager fra mye støy , eller langtidsopphold.

Zentral gelegen, sehr ruhig und sauber. Direkt in einer "Hauptstrasse" wo es viele Restaurants, Coffee-Shops und kleine Einkaufsmöglichkeiten gibt. Nur wenige Meter vom Strand entfernt

Badezimmer sehr klein und leider war die Dusche nicht abgetrennt (direkt neben dem WC, ohne Vorgang/Wand), daher war der gesamte Badezimmerboden mehrheitlich nass und konnte aufgrund dem nur sehr kleinen Fenster kaum trocknen

Our top-floor room was beautifully designed and offered perfect morning views of playful monkeys in the surrounding trees—a delightful and memorable experience. The location is exceptional, with many excellent restaurants in the immediate vicinity, all easily reachable on foot. This made exploring local dining options both convenient and enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed the serene atmosphere and natural surroundings.

Very clean, nice facilities and everything that you need. The location is super central, minutes from the beach and all the main places and restaurants.

Beautiful property, better than pictured. The kitchen has everything you need including free water, coffee and tea. Its about 3 minute walk to Hiri beach, 15 to Dickwella. Easy walk to numerous restaurants, there's an ATM right across the street, a convenience store about 5 minutes away by foot and lots of massage options surrounding the property. Room was spacious, with a roomy bathroom complete with toiletries. Property was peaceful

The mattress in my room was worn. Numerous craters from where prior guests slept so it wasn't very restful sleep because I kept falling into where the mattress sagged. Id still recommend it though, even as a sensitive sleeper

Really classy accommodation, beautifully furnished and decorated to create an air of bohemian chic, spotlessly clean and comfortable and in a nice quiet location off the main street. We would highly recommend a stay here

Leider steht im Bad alles unter Wasser, wenn man duscht. Der Lüfter läuft nur, wenn man das Licht anlässt. Zimmer nach innen zur Treppe (etwas hell nachts).

Beautifully designed hotel. The room was fantastic! No bugs anywhere to be seen. Excellent AC, shower and amenities. I stayed in the penthouse apartment which was very well equipped. The staff were also excellent, very kind and helpful. Perfect location for Hiriketia. Would definitely stay there again!

A few monkeys (I think) jumping on the roof. But it’s was seldom and didn’t really disturb me. All part of being in nature.

From the very first moment you enter this wonderfully relaxing gem, you feel well taken care of and warmly welcomed. The delightful cinnamon welcome drink certainly contributed to that feeling. The hotel is nestled in the hip beach town of Hiriketiya on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, near Dickwella. The atmosphere of The Yard has a European touch, without losing its chilled, relaxed, and tropical character. Yet it is tidy and serene enough to get some work done, or to find a quiet spot for meditation or yoga. The backyard is a wonderful retreat with plenty of seating, all styled in a fantastic and carefully curated aesthetic. For lovers of a tropical, understated flair, this hotel is an absolute must. The rooms impress with their harmoniously matched natural materials, patterns, and thoughtful little design details that make the stay truly enjoyable. On our Sri Lanka trip spanning 19 hotels, this was one of our top favorites, and we would definitely return — the value for money is absolutely outstanding.

Our main issue was with the bathroom as the layout meant the whole bathroom floor got wet from the shower and then it didn’t dry, so essentially a wet bathroom the whole time. We felt that the photos look better than the reality, at least for the room we had. It was also quite noisy in the morning from downstairs and neighbouring properties.
