Cliffs Edge Retreat

Our room (king suite in the lodge) was very comfortable and serene with the big picture window overlooking the water. It was well stocked with everything we needed and appreciated the coffee, and water in the fridge. The bed was very comfortable too! Having the restaurant (Foragers) right on site was a bonus for us.

We loved the quiet location. The room was spacious, great lighting with dimmers, beautiful windows, spacious deck overlooking the water and well furnished with a well stocked kitchen area. The common sauna was clean, turned on and available for use. It is well located with a view of the ocean and the room has bathrobes and sauna towels.

There are many details that could be improved to make this a full 4 stars experience. The king bed studio rooms in the main building are separated from the beach by a road so your balcony overlooks a road (and then the ocean), just an FYI. The room was noisy overnight with frequent door bangs and loud conversations from other rooms. Overall sound carries quite a bit in the studio rooms and kept us up part of the night. The bathroom is nice but there is no tub, only a shower. Although there is a kitchen with coffee, there was no milk / cream / tea / herbal tea which would be a welcome addition. In similar hotels with a view, we have greatly appreciated having binoculars in the room. This would be a nice touch to add. We ate at the restaurant and although the food was delicious it felt quite overpriced when compared to similar establishments in St John's and nearby. The staff seems to be still in training and still learning the ins and outs of the restaurant and hotel. For example, they forgot to tell us about the special menu until we were well into our second course during dinner.

Such a beautiful location!!! The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, the King Suite was perfect for our 3 night stay. We enjoyed the sauna access, proximity to hiking trails and the cafe and restaurant on site. The room came well equipped and we loved the patio with chairs to watch for marine life.

Unser Apartment entsprach genau unseren Erwartungen, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt! Der Ausblick ist super, mit dem Fernglas kann man Puffins sehen. Küchenausstattung sehr gut.

Leider fehlt ein Geschirrspüler, was aber nicht schlimm ist. Etwas laut, wenn Leute auf dem Gang vorbeilaufen. Das Personal ist nett, es bleibt aber insgesamt eine distanzierte Atmosphäre.

The amenities in L11 are great and the view is spectacular. Seeing puffins in the bay was a treat.

Food was left to visitor but restaurant The Forager was just down the hall and their food is superb! Loved the cod and watermelon/feta salad..

The utility wires running across the prime view were troublesome when expecting such a beautiful view.

We experienced drones flying in front of our private deck and glass front sauna. Tried to connect with management with no response.

Stunning view. Extremely clean, comfortable, contemporary space. Enforced quiet hours. Fabulous restaurant. Friendly staff. Kitchenette, dining table, comfy chairs to enjoy the view. Electric fireplace, well functioning bathroom with accessible shower. Everything thing we could need, with no excess. I was reluctant because of the price - but it was worth every penny.

We had a long wait for food at one dinner because they had many more walkins than expected. Probably because they had music - and the singer was very good. But that wait is the only reason I’m not giving them a 10!

Fantastic view! Hot tub was great after a long day of hiking. Very clean and everything was in great condition. The restaurant on the property is also great.

Everything! Regardless of the rest of your travel plans, you should try to stay more than 1 night here...regardless of season. Its truly a retreat to unwind...set right on an ocean cove.

We loved our stay at Cliffs Edge Retreat! It is a beautiful ocean side resort with its main lodge and restaurant (Forager) and collection of cottages. It is conveniently located around 45 minutes from St. John's and only 30 minutes from Ferryland. We stayed in the main lodge in an ocean view studio suite, which was modern and beautifully decorated. The full kitchen was very well equipped, which we appreciated as we prepared several meals during our two night stay. Our end unit suite (L12) was located across from the laundry room and next to the exit door to the outdoor sauna, so we did hear some noise at times, but it wasn't too bothersome. Our balcony had a beautiful view of the ocean, but it was partially obstructed by one of the oceanfront cottages across the road. Suites L5, L7 and L9 would likely have the best balcony views and are located far enough away from the entrance doors on both ends of the hallway. There is a limited menu at the Forager Restaurant (which you will walk past to access your room). We didn't have a meal there, but their baked goods and coffee were excellent.

We had trouble finding the office at first. It is at the Forager restaurant. The rooms were great, large, comfortable and modern. Parking was easy. Staff was very friendly. They were very amenable. They gave the room we booked away but upgraded us to a room with a view. (Unfortunately there was a hydro pole in the middle of our view.) Dinner at the Forage restaurant was great. The only downside was the cost of the prepared sandwiches which we bought the next day for lunch (43 dollars for a smallish baguette sandwich with Brie, and another Caprese one with tomato and cheese). All things considered, it was a great stay and we would recommend staying there.

Very nice property with ocean views. It’s remote (and meant to be) therefore limited options for pubs and restaurants. Property does have a good restaurant.

Cliffs edge is a gorgeous retreat, very clean and updated. Try to get one with a view of the water - worth the upgrade :)

Wonderful stay! Very Clean! Well Maintained. Very impressed with this property.

This cabin is pretty close to perfect. The private sauna is spectacular. The private deck and hot tub are outstanding. The cabin itself is cosy and incredibly well appointed, down to binoculars and games. The only thing that was missing is a patio heater. We would have liked to stay outside and look at the millions of stars for longer but it gets pretty chilly at night.

We booked one of the suits. The view was unimaginary. The kitchen was fully equipped. The decoration was awsome. The staff was great.

What a gem! The location of Cliff's Edge is the true winner but everything here is top notch! I just stayed in the lodge, but the room was perfect.....decor, fireplace, kitchenette. And loved the shared sauna....wow. I ate a small meal and desert at Forager and food was terrific. Highly recommend to stay here.

We enjoyed our stay at this retreat, everything was so clean and modern, loved the views of the ocean and the sauna. Very friendly and helpful staff!

The Cliffs Edge Retreat is a beautiful spot to just get away from it all. The rooms provide a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, with all the comforts from home. The oceanview is spectacular. There are Adirondack chairs on your own deck. Barriers provide privacy from the neighbors and a shelter from the wind. There is a small kitchen equipped to cook adn has a full size fridge, (if you want to do that on vacation). There isnt a lot of options for breakfast, so I'd recommend bringing breakfast items. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

L rooms are in the same building and entrance as the restaurant, we nearly missed. Clean room and well equipped. Outdoor sauna was great, enjoy the view. There were seafood aroma in the L hotel rooms hallway throughout the evening and morning.

Views were gorgeous, right on the ocean. Sauna with oceanview was an extra treat. Imcredibly neat and clean and very friendly staff!!! Excellent from the moment we arrived! Walking trail to LaManche Suspension Bridge was incredible!

We needed a place that represented Newfoundland and the views of the coast from our window did not disappoint. My moms 89 and she sat and watched the views and we will cherish the memories forever!!!

A set of sheets and blankets for my brother who slept on the very comfortable couch should be left in the room ... he had nothing the first night because we arrived so late.

Location

The property itself is fine. However, the week of trying multiple times to get answers from Management around options given wild fires and Air Canada strike which was making it impossible for the booking to be used as was intended, was infuriating. I made a request explaining the situation on August 13 and didn’t receive a decisive response until Aug 19, which was the day of the booking. Due to this extensive delay, myself and husband had to take time off work and arrange childcare so we could use the booking rather than throw the money away. This was less than ideal and deplorable customer service especially after paying close to $600 for 1 night!

Beautiful retreat. A must if you are headed south of St.John's. Beautiful cottages with amazing views and a fantastic restaurant on site.

Great location! Love that there is a restaurant on site. Room is clean and decorated nicely. Love the electric fireplace and the use of the Sauna outside for all guests. Rooms are quiet at night for sleeping with an extremely comfortable bed. Coffeemaker / fridge and microwave in room. Would stay again.

Lovely property with terrific view. Room had balcony with the famous red Adirondack chairs, full kitchen. Unfortunately, the front desk is only sporadically staffed and the email we were told contained wifi password and details about after hours entry to building did not arrive, nor was this info provided via Expedia. We were never lucky enough to be at the hotel when staff was available, so some confusion there.

Well kept property with a beautiful view

Location of this property is amazing, with a private patio, spa & sauna + a breathtaking view of Witless Bay. Bright, clean and comfortable living space. Great restaurants nearby. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it! Only downside was communication: staff on site were quick to respond to an issue, but responsiveness over text (which is their suggested means of communication) is slow and inconsistent. Not a huge issue for us, but it would have made our experience seamless.

The property at Cliff's Edge was absolutely amazing. Our cabin was beautifully decorated, clean, and the view was stunning! Only small downfall, the map of the property at the front desk needs improving.

What an amazing Stay. Arrived extremely late and was able to use their wifi (no password needed) to gain access to my code to open the door and was surprised by how amazing the room was. We could see the moon shining off of the ocean.

We stayed in a waterfront suite and the view was amazing! The room was big, bed was comfortable and we really loved our stay!!!

Nice place and nice view

The place itself is very nice and the rooms are modern and well equipped. Unfortunately the advertising is a bit misleading. Most of the photos show rooms with hot tubs and a great view. Unfortunately those are cabins and should be clearly labeled as such. The room we got had no veiw and no hot tub. There is a shared sauna but no hot tub shared or otherwise. This was a disappointing to walk into, when one expecting a view. This needs to be clarified when one is booking a room.

Loved it and would stay again

My friends and I stayed here for our 30th birthdays. This what we liked: The cozy robes, the amazing view (we saw a whale!!), the outdoor seating, the hot tub, the restaurant (cod and oysters were sooo good), comfortable beds, the peace and quiet, the gorgeous bathrooms, the nice soaps, and our server girlypop Hannah (she had great recommendations for us on places we could swim and eat- thanks girl!!) This is what we wished for next time: A more welcoming welcome when we arrived, binoculars in the room, a cushion for the outdoor seating, a foot rest or table for the deck, earlier check in times, less threatening vibes re the many many policies. Overall we had a fab time and would LOVE to return again. 😊

Property was clean and food was excellent however was pricey … we were mislead by the advertising we were supposed to get ocean view and shared spa and got neither . Rather a view of the parking lot. We were not greeted upon arrival. The girls at the restaurant were very nice and hospitable. Bed was very comfortable.

Absolutely loved my stay. The cottage is very secluded with only 3 others next door. Very peaceful with stunning views. Enjoyed the cafe during the day and dinner at night at the Forager. Will definitely be returning

Food items at the cafe were delicious. We had the pastrami sandwich, the quinoa salad and the carrot cake. All were delicious. The room was beautifully decorated and very spacious. Bed was comfortable and cozy. The sauna on the deck was a nice option that we didn’t have time for since we arrived late. The deck facing the water provided a great spot to view the scenery.

The views were fantastic, and enjoyed a peaceful evening!
