Reviewed Sep 17, 2026A great warm welcome, good facilities. Would be perfect for a group also as some outdoor tables etc. Rooms were clean and comfortable. We were even able to do some much needed laundry!

Reviewed Aug 30, 2026I spent three months researching the Kataragama temple complex and Sunshine Guesthouse was the ideal place to stay. It was comfortable, the staff were friendly, and the owners did everything they could to make my stay as pleasant as possible. I will be coming back to Kataragama for future research and I will definitely be staying here

The staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and the air conditioning works reliably. I’ve been staying for several weeks for a project I’ve been doing and I’m very happy I chose to stay here. I’ll definitely stay here again when I come back.

Reviewed Jun 20, 2026A lot of space, because only one person was in one room. The AC worked fine and moscito net was available. Everything was there, which was needed. It is a local area and easy reachable by foot. We booked the Yala tour in the afternoon and we saw the big three animals - we were very lucky! The owner was very friendly and cooked coffee for us.
My taste is more Italian coffee or filtered German coffee than Sri Lanken coffee.

Reviewed May 3, 2026We reccommend staying here! These are standard rooms well located both for Safari at Yala but also to experience an authentic Pooja cerimony at the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya. The hosts were very nice and accommodated all of our requests - we enjoyed our experience!

Had a mini frog come in the bathroom despite doors being closed, walls were super thin. Wasn't aware of this but it's an additional cost for the AC.

Freudliche und hilfsbereite Menschen, ein großzügiges Zimmer, großes Bad, Ventilator oder Klimaanlage, Mückennetze, zwei Stühle und ein Tischchen vor der Türe. Überdache Esstische, Wasserkocher, Waschmaschine...........! Die Ausstattung ist schlicht, super sauber und alles vorhanden was gebraucht wird wenn man unterwegs ist. Hier komme ich geŕne wieder her.

There was a sheet on the bed but nothing to sleep under? I wonder if it was due to how hot it was but would have been good to have the option. Just be aware that this area is great as a stop for Yala safari but there is not much in the town area - regardless of where you stay.

Reviewed Aug 5, 2025Sehr saubere Unterkunft mit einem super Gastgeber. Er hilft sehr gerne bei Problemen. Er hat uns eine Jeep Fahrer für die Safari besorgt. Vor der Abholung um 5:30 hat er uns sogar Tee aufs Zimmer gebracht. Er half uns sogar bei unserem TukTuk, da wir Probleme damit hatten. Unterkunft hatte gute Ausstattung.
Ventilator war etwas schwach.

While the room was slightly compact and the absence of air conditioning made it a bit warm, especially at night, the space was clean and manageable. There was also a slight noise from the fan during the night, which affected our sleep a little. However, the kindness and helpfulness of the owner truly stood out and made our experience much better. We appreciate the warm hospitality!

They provided private parking, drinking water, and all the necessary things. The location is also very convenient – it’s close to Kataragama Maha Devalaya, just a 15–20 minute walk. Highly recommend for anyone visiting the area!
