The Gate keepers cottage is gorgeous. A perfect retreat. Surrounded by gardens and bush makes it a beautiful spot with lots of bird songs to listen to. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. A 5 minute drive to Akaroa town. A bit too far to walk. The continental breakfast provided was perfect. I would recommend staying here.
Only thing it s a bit far to walk to town. The vineyard offered a shuttle to pick up and drop off for dinner so that solved that problem.
I loved the amazing bird song when we stepped out if the car, close enough to town to walk but far enough to be well away from it all.
We couldn't figure out the TV, but hey.....we didn't need it
Gardens were beautiful. Cottage was lovely with the loft rooms. So quaint. Fruits and flowers from the garden in the room. A real gem.
Everything was perfect.
Loved the vibe of the unit, classic country manor house vibe. Unit had separate living room on main level with access to private court yard. Location perfect distance to downtown Akaroa, with lovely views of the surrounding hills. Mature gardens with plenty of native birds, even a NZ Pigeon was spotted. Cute pond with a very old goldfish enjoying life.
Sehr hilfsbereites Personal, mit Wandervorschlägen. Tolle Lage in der Natur etwas ausserhalb von Akaroa. Ohne Fahrzeug und mit Gepäck kann das mühsam sein.
Alles bestens.
Friendly arrival. Very private and extremely cute. I loved sitting in the attic bedroom listening to the birds and seeing greenery out of every window.
Difficult to find, although I must confess to not reading instructiobs prior to arriving. So cannot say how easy it would have been had I read tgem. Nevertheless, a bigger sign on the entrance to path on tge main road would make it much easier
Rustige ligging, zeer aardige gastheer en gastvrouw. Aangename bosgeluiden.

The fresh bread, jam and coffees were worth waking up for. The location and cottage itself were absolutely gorgeous. I could be their gatekeeper forever! Lovely, friendly folks with an playful pup.
I didn't like that I had to leave.
Breakfast OK, but given one french loaf on arrival, and no more for a two night stay?
Not much, but breakfast as above.
Very friendly hosts and the cottage was very quiet and comfortable. Perfect for what we needed.
Beautiful surroundings, with a courtyard and garden. Friendly owners, beautiful flowers in the cottage for our arrival. Quality breakfast options and even some fruit provided. Really enjoyed our stay. It was so peaceful and great location!
On se sent très bien dans le logement. Cadre très joli.
Gorgeous property, friendly and accommodating hosts,
We stayed two nights and greatly enjoyed the hospitality of our hosts (and their lovely dog). The cottage was homely and comfortable, and it was lovely waking up to birdsong every morning. Note that the bedroom is up a narrow flight of steps, so we kept our luggage down in the sitting room by the entrance. We had lovely walks up to the vineyard and met the local sheep, and the main town area of Akaroa is just a short 4mins drive away.
The overall setting is beautiful; surrounded by a lovely expansive garden and nestled in the hills of the Banks Peninsula. The most comfortable bed and pillows imaginable and with lovely linen, quality sleep almost certainly a given!
L'accueil des propriétaires , le contact facile , les informations disponibles pour féd randonnées pédestres Une baguette de pain 😃
Waking up to a cacophony of native bird song.
Needed a brighter light in the kitchen area.
Gorgeous setting, and great facilities.

Peter and Paula are super nice and friendly! We had a really good rest at their place and will definitely come back again. Their dog is also very cute!
We liked everything. One suggestion is maybe instructions with the TV. S beautiful stay.

The location was beautiful
The fridge didn’t look the lights worked but the motor didn’t so our milk went off and we couldn’t chill our bubbles. Also someone had put a used teabag in tea container and the lids where broken.
Private location, beautiful setting amongst lots of bird life. Really comfortable bed and had everything we needed in the property to make a really enjoyable stay.
There was a hiccup with our booking, we werent expected. But after contacting our host, very promptly arrived and sorted everything out. Welcomed with fresh bread, homemade jam and a lovely bowl with fruit and fresh tomatoes.
The property location was stunning. Gorgeous rolling hills and fantails everywhere.
No hob.
The perfect cottage. Beautiful surroundings / garden. Very private. Great warm athmosphere. Peter and Paula are the perfect hosts. 3th time for me here. I hope I can visit again.
Nothing
Lovely peaceful location surrounded by bush. Well equipped with nice rustic features. The dawn chorus was amazing and such a fond memory of our two night stay in such a nice property.
Nothing
Welcoming hosts and beautiful property to explore. This was my favourite accommodation of the trip with great views and delicious bread and spreads left for us to enjoy
So peaceful. Beautiful setting. Paula and Pete had thought of everything you might need. Rustic charm . We had a car problem and they were very helpful and caring.
At the top of a steep hill, no problem for us but a car is a necessity
Beautiful self-contained, private, and peaceful accommodation in a rural setting. We had our own private outside space with loungers and a bistro set. We were able to walk around the hosts land visiting the sheep and their very friendly dog, Beau. Easy short drive into the main area of Akoroa. Our hosts were very friendly, personable, and helpful. They made us feel very welcome . Totally recommend a stay here.
Leaving!
Old house in the wood. Very nice host. Unique place. We loved it very much.
Breakfest very simple.
Lovely location, quiet, and a very nice couple renting out the cottage. The space had everything we needed, with modern amenities in an older farmhouse-style cottage.
A beautiful place up on a hill, you almost feel like in a tree house. Pitch black at night and very quiet. Very cosy and comfortable. Our hosts were very nice and friendly.
Setting, host, privacy, quiet garden
Everything was ex.
Breakfast was continental, which was well set out and very tasty. The hosts were very friendly and hospitable and looked after us very well.
Nothing comes to mind.
Good
No t v upstairs and while we do not mind dogs.some people do not and would non appreciate a big dog jumping on them
Quirky, comfortable cottage, attached to main house. In country. Beautiful surrounding bush and gardens Quiet. Breakfast cereal and fruit provided.
Driveway to cottage Internal stairs steep
An amazing and tranquil location
Tranquil and relaxing setting. Sheep, goldfish and an abundance of birdlife. Apricots on the tree ready to eat. The little courtyard out front cough all day sunshine, it was lovely to take in the evening sun. Paula and Peter were very friendly and welcoming hosts.
The lounge area is downstairs but the kitchenette is upstairs in the bedroom area. Not a biggie.
We had an excellent trip away, such a lovely location just out of the main centre and peaceful. Good sized rooms so we could spread out. Very friendly hosts including their dog.
Mosquitoes so be sure to cover up or wear bug repellent outdoors.
Small and cozy stay away from city noise. Mountains and green views, lovely french city, Lovely people. Much privacy, very nice house. It was our best stay during 3 weeks we were in NZ. Place is located in old volcano crater, so it was amazing and beautiful. Many birds, lambs, walking roads, amazing views and large hares in the garden. PS- there was gold fishes in our garden pool! :)
Excellent location and facilities. Breakfast items and fruit , plus tea and coffee ready for us in our accommodation.

Warming welcome - Pete & Paula are an amazing couple and so friendly!
Nothing - everything was perfect the way it was
Continental they went out of their way to get a nice gluten free bread for my wif.
Location absolutely beautiful. All you hear is birdsong, and all you see is nature. Getting to sleep in the pitch black was heavenly. Not walking distance to the town, but just park at the start of the street and its easy walking from there. We were lucky to meet Peter and Paula who were lovely and genuinely care about their guests.
Loved the quietness and surroundings. Very peaceful.
The hot water ran out on the second morning and my partner had to have a cold shower and we had to wash the dishes in lukewarm water.
Character of properu
The night skky is lovely and birdsong a dlight.Slept really well.
Needs bigger hot water cylinder. A lock for outside bottom door.
Breakfast not available
Peaceful with beautiful trees and garden and surrounding bush with birdlife and song.
