Auberge L'Orpailleur

Quiet, clean, has piano, pretty inside and out, which generates a good feeling

It would have been more fun if breakfast was laid out; it wouldn't have had to be anything fancy, just a small self-serve buffet... But then I suppose it would have cost more to stay there, so probably better as it is, where the guests brew their own coffee. etc.

The place was spotless! Very clean and fresh! The bathroom is newly renovated (or may be owners just take good care of it). The mattress was comfortable, cozy bed in general. The was air conditioning in the kitchen and living room. The communication with the host was very consistent, detailed instructions, constant follow up by the host. Oh, and it was quiet (may be not many guests were there)

I loved the place very much in general, but unfortunately the air conditioning didn't reach my room. There is a fan in a room, I slept the whole night with it on, however it was still hot.

Loved the rooms - very comfortable and the rain showers were a bonus - great common areas too!

Our stay at L'Orpailleur was truly special and felt like stepping back in time. We were fascinated to learn about the building's rich history, starting as a boarding house for the many single miners who flocked to the Lamaque mine in 1935. It's incredible how the inn has maintained its authentic charm through the years, with only minor renovations that always respected its original spirit. In the mid-1990s, Nicole Garceau and Dominique Gay Spriet transformed it into the welcoming inn it is today, perfect for travelers who appreciate a rustic and historic atmosphere. L'Orpailleur is a rare survivor from Abitibi's major gold rush era, and it's clear why it's an integral part of the Village minier de Bourlamaque, a designated historical site since 1979. What made our stay even more compelling was the inn's location just a few steps from La Cité de l'Or. This incredible site is the only place in Canada that truly takes you into the heart of a gold mine, showcasing one of the country's most productive exploitations. You can even visit a historic mining village that's still occupied today! If you're looking for a stay that offers more than just a bed – one that provides a genuine connection to the region's past and an incredible historical experience – L'Orpailleur is an absolute gem. Highly recommend!

While our stay was wonderful, we did have one small suggestion: it would be lovely to see real indoor plants and flowers instead of artificial ones.

There is no staff on site so just 4 stars for that

The location - the house - very clean - One bedroom was exceptional.

One of the bedroom is small - no space for the luggage - the bed makes noise at each move and the mattress is not great. Too bad we don’t meet the owner. Breakfast is not included.

Charming old boardinghouse renovated and turned into a bed& breakfast while keeping its charm. Comfy bed, amazing shower- all good!

Easy and secure access to the facility .

The place is absolutely beautiful, pitoresque building in the mining village of valdor. The place was very clean and quiet.

The only thing was the comfort of the bed that could have been a lot better i wasnt there for a long stay so it wasnt that bad. The rest was perfect !

Very quaint historic house. Rooms were small but perfect for myself traveling alone and very well done. Shower appeared newly renovated.

House is attractive and well maintained, but footwear must be removed before entering.

We paid for a room with breakfast included. Upon arriving we learned that this facility does not offer breakfast. The rooms are small and poorly arranged. For instance there is no electrical outlet near the desk. Although there is a space to park a few cars hidden down an alley behind the house, most users have to park on the street.

I enjoyed my stay at this authentic, historic. It's a charming and comfortable place, full of character. While some noise is to be expected in a bustling auberge, it didn't detract from the experience. Overall, a lovely and memorable stay.

My only minor issue was that there wasn't enough tea and coffee provided in the auberge.

Great cosy place

nothing

Located in the old mining village near the museum. Quiet neighborhood and a great museum to tour.

We did not know that a breakfast was offered.

Free parking, large room, good price

No physical contact with the innkeeper or very little.

So clean, well renovated… just beautiful!

No more keys, it's extremely quiet!

First time in renting a room in a house. Owner was quick to resolve my issue when we first arrived, quaint rooms.

Nosy fan in shared bathroom facilities and squeaky floor boards made sleeping a little challenging but we arrived at 10 pm and gone by 7 am.

Very clean and straightforward directions to access everything!!

I didn't have the time to get the breakfast

All was ok

the facilites, especially the kitchen was nice to have

parking wasn’t clear

Cozy

A little warm temperature wise
