Everything about our stay at Ahilya Fort was simply extraordinary! ❤️ From the breathtaking views of Maa Narmada to the delicious food, the warm hospitality, beautiful rooms, and the timeless charm of this heritage property—every experience had something special to offer. What made the visit even more meaningful was discovering the wonderful work of the REHWA Society, a four-decade-old non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich tradition of Maheshwari handloom while supporting the weavers and their craft. It was heartening to see such a beautiful legacy being nurtured with so much passion. And then there were the temples, the serene boat ride on the Narmada, and the deeply spiritual Lingarchan experience—each adding a different dimension to our stay. Ahilya Fort is not just a place to stay; it is an experience where history, heritage, spirituality, culture, craftsmanship and the beauty of nature come together beautifully. A truly memorable experience that we will cherish for a long time. 🙏❤️
Of course, not everything was perfect! 😄 The otherwise wonderful ambience of the evening mocktail setting was slightly disrupted by our uninvited guests—the mosquitoes! 🤪🦟 But then, even they seemed determined to be part of our Ahilya Fort experience! 😂
Loved every single thing about the stunning property & the stay. Service was truly exceptional, kudos to every single member of the staff for nailing the essence of customer service & hospitality.
It was not just a stay , but such a wholesome experience, the staff went out of their way to make our stay so comfortable. The entire property has a personalised touch which is evident in the way the food is served to the taste , to the dealing of the staff with you. The food is all organic homegrown , with recipes curated by the Maharaja himself. Absolutely an amazing experience, worth every penny . No regrets , will definitely come back for more.
Nothing
It is wonderful experience to stay with His Highness Sir Richard Holker 16th descendant of Mata Ahillyabai Holker in the heritage property she was staying in. This property is perfect example of simple and graceful living of Mata Ahilyabai Holker
Simple heritage property in comparison to other properties showing pompous and luxury life of kings
Breakfast was excellent
Discomfort in the dressing and bathroom areas
Location is good
Worst food, hygiene issues with washroom, not worth the money they charge.. Not a royal experience
A beautiful hotel set in a mystical place full of history. The staff was very attentive. The views of the river are amazing! Despite our very late arrival from a long journey, they thoughtfully ensured that dinner was available for us, showing exceptional care and hospitality.
All was very good
Heritage a piece of history personal service excellent food An unforgettable experience
Nothing
Comfort food and the staff
Noise near the tent rooms but that can't be helped was since it's near the pilgrimage
Great location of the property! The staying in the palace itself is an incredible experience. The hotel staff was courteous and helpful. We stayed during the Xmas, they have arranged special meals for this occasion. Their continental as well as Indian spreads were exceptional. We as a family prefer limited but good quality food, they match it at par. Their attention to detail is remarkable—in food, the room decor, handwritten notes, pre-dinner mocktails. They arrange a boat ride in Narmada river and visit to family shiva temple—sipping tea while watching the sun setting, along with the celestial Narmada was a memorable experience we will cherish for a while!
Heavenly place to stay definitely do the boat trip in the morning. The food is great and so well planned. Excellent all round and fantastic staff
Everything about the property was fantastic. The feel was extremely homely and welcoming. The meals were extremely well thought out and is not to be missed. For people with pets, the staff and the premises are extremely pet friendly. For those who are spiritual, the ghats and the temple visits are experiences that will stay with you for a long time.
Nothing that I did not like.
Beautiful property by the Narmada river. Excellent service, food. exceptional. will be back

great location
Ahilya place is An excellent luxury property set in a beautiful environment. The staff was extremely courteous and attentive, making us feel genuinely special. The food was great, and the hospitality exceeded expectations.
we stayed in a room which was close to the temple and ghats . The views from the room very lovely but due to use of loudspeakers by the temple the room was very noisy .
Everything !
Nothing !
Everything. This is a very unique heritage property. It is like an oasis, from when you walk through the small entrance gate into the beautiful gardens it is a very special experience. My room was lovely, with views across the river. The food is incredible, and served in various locations around the site. It has a great swimming pool. The staff were pleasant, helpful and attentive. The boat trip on the river was a great experience
Nothing, a lovely experience
We loved the "at home" feeling that the place creates. Having a different location for breakfast was charming. The meals were very interesting, ingredients very fresh and very well presented. Having a dinner and a breakfast with Prince Richard Holkar was an absolute honour and a great delight. Our visit to the Rehwa Society and seeing the artisans at work was very interesting, and a visit to the school next door was heart warming.
The stay would have been more enriching if: 1. There was someone at the location who inquired about our interests and helped plan local sight seeing. 2. If the story of Ahilyabai Holkar is narrated in an interesting "story telling' manner, as an evening gathering of guests. 3. The place is full of interesting antique pieces and historic pictures and documents - a guided tour of the premises giving some more details of some specific significant artefacts would be an added experience. 4. The constant loud speaker noise, chanting interrupted with announcements that gutka etc is banned every 2nd minute was very very disturbing - it took away the serenity and peace in the room we stayed in (Narmada Suite).
Location,
The food menu was foreign guest oriented, they openly admitted that they prefer foreigners as guests. The answer was humiliating..
Old historic fort on the banks of Narmada with great views Good food Good staff
White powder sprayed to avoid slipping in the moss stinks
Location and staff behavior excellent
Not suitable for super senior citizen
The place is just Wow , I stayed in the Narmada Suite , the best room in the property and words fall short to tell how perfect and royal it was, the food is custom prepared and has homely touch to it. the ambience , the pool area are just like from the books. The staff is super lovely too.
Loved everythiing
Food, food, food
Ambience
No balcony with the room and meal was like set menu … with the steep tariff it should have been buffet
The place is outright amazing. Superb staff, food & facilities. The entire atmosphere of the place is superb. Royal lunch, candlelight dinner by the pool & complimentary boat ride with tea in the boat.
Historic, quaint, great staff, authentic original rooms, its real and way better than 5 star - its an experience like no other. You'll get mud on your shorts and bats flying by inside, (not your room) great pool, lovely gardens. River cruise for sunrise just amazing. A huge amount of history right there.
Nothing - love authentic
Breakfast was good but butter was always hard, not able to spread on bread at all. Maybe it should be a bit soft.
There was no fridge in the room which was very inconvenient. I think its a basic facility when you're charging so much, also the room has to be checked before the guests are checking in . Our shower was not working and there was no bucket as well and we had to ask n wait for a long time
Was absolutely great to have breakfast overlooking the Narmada. In general food was good and the staff are super helpful.
Not anything that was the hotels fault.
Beautiful and intimate setting. It is a labour of love with great respect to heritage and culture. It has been a memorable experience staying at this heritage hotel in Maheshwar. The staff was wonderful and the food was incredible.
The location is exceptional.
Food should be either continental or Indian. The fusion was not well made. Also it has so much history. But apart from a few pictures, didn’t feel that they are proud of their history. They should arrange tours, lectures. So many foreign guests come. I am not sure how much history is told to them. Surely we weren’t told anything. We found out from other sources.
Great food Great Great service Wonderful & excellent
More interaction with Mr Holkar
Gorgeous setting, interesting food, diverse staff who provide interesting perspectives.
The Kitchen staff was very efficient and accommodative
The Management Staff needs more co-ordination amongst themselves. Planning activities for guests and requests need to be relayed and communicated better within themselves.
Everything
Food was exceptional and served in the most beautiful locations
Nothing
Beautiful property and excellent staff. The experience created for meals was excellent as was the boat ride organised by the hotel.
The property requires a lot of restoration work and lacks maintenance. Found cobwebs and dust. Food was pathetic and highly overpriced.
Ambience
No room slippers
Nice property, great views, very helpful staff and great food.
Fan makes a lot of noise
The location is beautiful overlooking the Narmana River and ghats, set in a tropical garden. There is a weaving co-op nearby with beautiful textiles
Unfortunately we and another guest had a bout of food poisoning and as all the food was included it most likely came from the kitchens at the Fort. Also it was very difficult to book the room with a view that we wanted. Otherwise lovely!
The food served was one of most delicious things I've ever eaten. The location is just spectacular! It's a very quaint and relaxing property where you can hear kids giggling while dipping into Narmada and birds chirping in the lush green covers with in the property!
I wish there was anything that I could say I didn't like! Sadly, everything was just too good!
Perfect for stay cation....
I liked everything
The overall ambience. Location and the history.
The water in the shower was just a drizzle, they should install a pressure pump. They should also install a hand shower.
Nice
The allotment of rooms. Air conditioning in the room allotted.
Perfectly imperfect! Good fresh well curated food
Maybe a bit of low in staff
Nice homely place. Right on the river
Has a lot to improve to come upto standards which it can easily achive if it wants to be amonst the heritage properties of MP
Very good
There are not enough words to describe the beauty and comfort of Ahilya Fort. The delicious food, the lush gardens, every detail makes a stay there a dream come true
The high price which didn't permit me to stay for long
Location. We stayed during a particularly auspicious weekend, and the ghats were magical. The highlight of a six centre road trip. That said, we had to fly to Indore to access Maheshwar, but well worth the effort. Great feeling of exclusivity. The dining experience rotates around various locations around the fort.
No alcohol policy in line with the sacred status of Maheshwar. But they allow you to bring your own, and will happily serve it to you.
The old world charm with all amenities. The fresh food - the staff and the little gestures of care. The evening boat ride on the river was a memorable experience.
Breakfast was good and served in an excellent location under the trees.
All good.
The service / hospitality.
Nothing as such but the cost seems slightly higher side and even though food is fixed menu some options may be given
Tasty & awesome location
The staff and location were exceptionally good.
The staff and location were exceptionally good the food which was included was frugal, to say in the least. I've lived in multiple heritage properties in the past and have had far more for much less. Would I call this value for money? Not really. But once again, the staff and the location were exemplary!
Not worth the cost
History and heritage
Noisy river facing room
Property is located at a very scenic location just close to Narmada River
Hopefully they will change their food menu and adapt room service
location on Narmada bank. boat ride in the evening.
na
Ambience was really nice. Natural setting, getting to stay in an actual fort. Amazing hospitality from the staff who took care. The food was of high quality as it was grown locally. Had quite a lot of options for activities and the arrangements for sightseeing nearby which were well planned.
Dinner timings were a little late for early diners (started at 8:30pm). The South Indian breakfast option was not the best.
excellent hosts, facilities - room, fort, pool, location, quietness, cleanliness, surroundings
limited food options
the location, the rooms,a good place for leisure stay
very limited choice of food after charging a bomb same repeated everyday.
My stay was wonderful. The hotel is perfectly located in a beautiful historical building. The confort and hospitality could not have been better and the food was delicious. I was always very pleased with full attention and helpfull guidance from all the team.
Its location in the Narmada’s banks & the genteel hospitality of Maharajah Richard Shuvalirao Holkar
The limited view of the Narmada from our room - we expected a veranda but got tiny window.
