the toilet is located downstair and the rooms are all upstairs, therefore getting and going to the toilet is challenging for me and my partner.

Reviewed Mar 23, 2026We loved the whole deal - close to the beach, the apartment which was comfortable and had all that we needed. There was parking right outside the door and everyone was so friendly. Lou and Tony, the owners, were very helpful with advice of where to go see and eat. The other guests were super friendly. The purpose of our trip was to go to Cape Reinga, and ninety mile beach and White Sands is ideally situated for this.
There was nothing that we didn't like. However, if you have dodgy knees the apartments are on two levels with the bedroom and bathroom being upstairs and the toilet on the ground level.

Reviewed Jan 20, 2026Very relaxed environment not only the scenery but also our host and Other guest that were staying onsite.Our stay had that nostalgic feeling only with my wife and kids and not my Dad and siblings.Whaea Lou and Matua Tony are the real salt of the Earth people they were warm and inviting aswell as kind and accommodating to all us guest while catering for the locals that were stopping in as they used the boat landing site right next to the beach that was a hop,skip and a jump from the lodge.I would live there if I could this place in Karikari is awesome and yes I will go back again, thank you Whaea Lou and Matua Tony the trip was to entice my wife to see Far Far North and now she wants to come back with our larger tribe. You guys Rock and the kaimoana and local knowledge was very helpful until we meet again.
Only the bugs but that's just summer weather for you.

Reviewed Jan 19, 2026The location was mint. I, as the driver was very exhausted as we had early start every day and some quite late finishes. The car park and the entrance was so handy that the facility was so easy to get to. Loved every day there. Would definitely book there again.

You feel like you've made new friends once you meet them. You've got a vast beach 50 metres from your location to watch the sunset from. Great place to chill!

They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed and more. Tony was always around helping us launch and retrieve Skis and that was so appreciated. His smoked fish wings were the best I’ve tasted!! Big thumbs up and we will most definitely stay again :)

One bedroom has no power socket. Need to close all windows in evening to avoid mossi attack during night.

Our host is amazing and made sure we had everything we needed Lou made us feel as home. There is a shop on-site which comes in handy for the items we didn't take with us. Love the vibe of this place, very inviting and very warm. . Take a rod or two, pack yourself lunch and sit on the beach. The people that live in Rangiputa are very friendly

Reviewed Feb 24, 2025Even though the motel is a little dated, it was clean, tidy, comfy and the hosts were fantastic. Right next to the boat ramp and beach, couldn’t ask for a better location. Motel has small shop with a few necessary items, if you want a mall go to Auckland. (and stay there!)

Reviewed Jan 19, 2025It was a nice touch that Tony raised the guests nationality flag. Lou was lovely and welcoming. She kept apologizing about the rainy weather - completely out of your control, Lou. We still had a marvellous time. Came prepared with raincoats and had beautiful long walks on the beach.
The frying pan was a bit warped and the nonstick coating flaking. But in the bigger scheme of things, this is nit picking. The bbq facilities made up for it.

It is an extremely noisy place. This should be a no-go for sensitive sleepers. The walls are made from very thin boards and we could easily hear every conversation or cutlery sound in our neighbouring rooms. It was very hot and we couldn't open our windows due to the windy weather that would flow that white sandy dust into our rooms. It was hard to breathe that sandy/dusty air. There are no curtains in the kitchen, so when you are trying to sleep in a bed in the living area it is extremely bright from the neighbouring property's lights. The location is probably the main downside. The beach was covered in piles of seaweed, making an awful smell, so the beach wasn't an option for walking.

Reviewed Dec 30, 2024Great location by the beach. The managers were super friendly and helpful. They put up flags for the nationalities staying which is a nice touch. There was even a mini Christmas tree in our unit on arrival. Also dog friendly which is a plus.
The 2nd bedroom did not have electrical outlets or bedside tables. Wifi is not great but adequate.
