Friendly staff, clean hotel ,character and plenty of things in the area to do.
I know this is an old property, but not sure which creaked more my bed or the floor boards in room 17
It is what it is
The location was perfect for us attending a wedding. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Downham Market seemed a lovely town with a good choice of restaurants.
The bed was not comfortable. The mattress was very soft and the duvet felt heavy. Also the furniture made the room feel dated.
Location and parking was good. David who took us to our room was very helpful and informative.
Unable to open wardrobe doors as they were either stuck or locked? Shower was the worst I have ever experienced, hardly any pressure, took ages to get wet!
Very friendly staff. Beautiful building. Great atmospheric bar. Would happily return.
Needed a new mattress on the bed... A cheap investment that would have rated the stay to excellent.. Maybe the owners ought to try sleeping on the mattresses!!
Location is great very central
Room being changed after sorting best option of room out for elderly guest
Will request a larger room next visit.
Old fashioned feel, clean
Beds were a little lumpy
The staff were really friendly and helpful
We booked 2 rooms for 4 adults, of which one was supposed to be deluxe….it was a really small room up in the attic, with two single beds and just enough room to get around, it was dark and dingy and very hot. A fan was supplied which did absolutely nothing. The other room was just as small with two single beds, ( which I must say were comfortable) no curtain up at the window , so woke up really early with the light streaming in. A hot/cold fan was supplied which again did absolutely nothing.
Very central with free car parking; lovely friendly and helpful staff. Property is a bit dated as you would expect with an old property but it was very clean and comfortable.
Staff were good and friendly Location was great Parking was convenient
Bed in Room 2 was really uncomfortable Shower was not brilliant either
Lovely location Spacious family room Helpful staff
-
It’s location
Not very clean Uncomfortable beds Water pressure and temperature of shower
Location ideal for us
Lots of stairs and no lift BUT I knew this before I booked -
Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.
They're not providing evening food at the moment but breakfast was excellent.
Very friendly people and comfortable room.
No food available in evening
Breakfast was excellent.
The room was noisy because of the road in front and no double glazing
The location was good, there were some nice restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel which was really central and easy to get to other places from. We particularly liked the Wetherspoons and the Italian restaurant nearby. The room was basic but clean and cosy with tea and coffee facilities and drinking water. The bed was quite comfy and we slept well. The parking was good and felt safe and secure. The staff were very helpful with the restaurants in the local area and the pub had a friendly vibe. I would stay here gain.
The breakfast was disappointing and I thought it was quite greasy and expensive for what it was.
All the people were very friendly and helpful. Parking was as would be expected and knowing that only clients of the company would be parking there made knowing there was a space there helped.
Very historic property in the centre of town with a large room with period features.
Old coaching inn with plenty of character close to town amenities.
Having to pay extra for breakfast. Mattress sagged in the middle.
As always staff extremely helpful. Central location.
Location
Lovely hotel staff always kind
Perfect location .Friendly staff.Good breakfast
Lovely room with a large modern bathroom. The staff were friendly and welcoming, with an excellent breakfast (Well worth the £12 extra).
On arrival, they changed our room so that we were in a quieter part of the hotel.
Very clean and comfortable
Nothing suited all our needs
Location
No access through the front door onto the Main Street Rather dingy.
breakfast good and cleanliness
bed springs felt duvet old and heavy change both to make the stay better.
Friendly and relaxed service made this an exceptional stay.
Location , appearance size. History
Too many steps
Really old building, in the centre of the town, great car parking, wonderful bar area, staff very nice and friendly, the rooms have been kept as original but with added modern shower room, the staircases are wonderful as is the whole building, however this property is not for those that want modern rooms, but if you like old beautiful buildings then this property is definitely worth looking at.
Nothing
Facilities weee all fine, room a little on the small side but ok.
Room size.
Excellent location in the heart of town, comfy beds. Very friendly helpful staff.
Noisy extractor fan that stayed on for ages after turning off the light. Hairdryer awkward to use.
Fantastic service from the team, friendly and responsive.
Lovely quirky 17th century inn full of character. Beds were comfortable.
Access to our room was difficult for us due to a combination of our age and the very heavy door which sat close to a foot higher than the level you stand at meaning you had to stretch up to reach the handle. When it came to booking out we couldn't find anyone to hand the keys to despite searching high and low and calling out. Just left the keys on the bar.
Crown Hotel is right in the middle of Downham Market and therefore great in terms of walking round the town, a good few independent shops and a great bakery called Mabel near clocktower. Staff always welcoming and keen to help and there is a good choice of beers in the bar. Not eaten there so cant comment on food.
It is a very old building and therefore some of the rooms are small and bathrooms likewise and expect plumbing likewise but that is to be fair not something that can be changed but more storage in the rooms and bathrooms would help, a simple shelf in showers would make a difference.
We loved the location in centre of town.
Our room was over the bar so some people may not like it but it didn't bother us as we where out and got back at closing time.
The staff were incredibly kind! Our train arrived right at 9pm and they were extremely helpful checking us in although we were a few minutes late :)
Lovely building and location, staff were super helpful
The noise from the bat but it did stop at 11pm promptly
Location was great, very friendly staff.
The staff are all lovely and friendly
Would have preferred semi skimmed milk in room
Staff are exceptional. It is a family run hotel, they know exactly who you are when you arrive and make you very welcome. You are shown to your room and everything is explained to you. It is a really quaint English Coaching Inn with tonnes of character.
Nothing to dislike.
The hotel is centrally located and close to shops and restaurants It’s a very old and historic coaching inn with a cosy bar and real fire. The staff and owner were very helpful and pleasant. A bonus is the on-site parking. We had an excellent breakfast but had to pay extra for it.
Our ‘superior’ room was very small. The decor in the room was very dated and needs a major overhaul. We found the beds uncomfortable. The shower was not very powerful. Overall we thought it expensive for not much in return.
Great breakfast and a good central location
Nothing really
Full of character and charm with a traditional pub vibe, central location with lots of lovely cafes and restaurants. On site parking too.

Lovely breakfast, charming quaint hotel
The inn had a lot of wonderful character, and the pub right downstairs was great. We were so appreciative that they were able to get us in for an early check in after a red eye flight. Easy walking distance to lots of places. Definitely recommend getting the breakfast!
The owners
The staff were very welcoming and the service was excellent throughout our stay. The breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. Would definitely stay there again.
The location is perfect slapdash in the centre of town. The train station is about a half a mile away
The room was on the small side with no room for comfortable chairs
Did not have breakfast but location was perfect
The room and the whole place were very charming
Stayed at The Crown it was the closest hotel for watching the Brisca F1 world final at Kings Lynn. The hotel was full of stock car fans with lots of Dutch fans also stopping. We had a two night stay
We travelled a long way it would of been nice to have a late beer as bar closed just after 11:00
The bar area, open fire, character and friendly staff.
Bedroom a little tired but had everything you'd want.
The hotel was fantastic. The staff were so nice and friendly.
Nothing
Location brilliant bar with open fire brilliant Only one flight of stairs to room good
Fan in bathroom very noisy and took a long while to go off after the light went off. Especially annoying during the night.
This is a very old coach house and you have to consider this in a review breakfast was amazing
Very welcoming
Lovely location
Room was too noisy had all the presuming water pipes noises keeping awake during the night the en suite toilet was down a set of stairs not in the room
didn’t have breakfast location was okay
the shower could have been bigger and more roomy and presseue in shower was poor. not enough tea bags and milk wasn’t any staff around when we went too check out no lifts to rooms
Was beautiful rooms in keepingbwith the age of building . Staff were excellent and couldn't fault it in any way
Never had any issues perfect stay
Very warm welcome. The barman was V busy but broke off from his duties and showed us to our room, explaining everything
Nothing
Right in town, very close to everything
Room was really small considering I paid almost £100 a night. When room was serviced, cups weren’t cleaned, no bag in bin, had to ask for a clean bath mat as the dirty one was taken away and not replaced. Also tea/coffee/sugar wasn’t replenished
Lovely open fires in the bar
Room was very outdated and could do with some modernisation lots of cracks in the walls and the bedframes was very wobbly
Cozy rooms and excellent bar.
No mat on carpeted bathroom floor - not really an issue though!
Convenient location in town Bar area had two fires going cosy atmosphere Staff polite and knowledgeable. Great breakfast
Bit chilly in rooms but ok
Lovely. Stayed a few times. Highly recommended. Lovely breakfast.
Maybe update rooms. But, so clean.
Bed
Location, breakfast and very friendly staff
Rooms quite small (but I understand there were larger rooms available) and the mattress was quite uncomfortable.
Good location, nice old property, nice bar with fire, staff were friendly and helpful, on site free parking, breakfast was very good. Rooms were clean and tidy
All good really
Lovely friendly staff
Uncomfortable bed
Historic building, super breakfast, helpful staff, clean room.
Room a little scruffy in places and a little cold.
A great location. The bar area is my favourite spot in Downham Market.
Whilst the room was immaculately clean and comfortable, it felt just a little “cold” and impersonal when set against how beautifully warm and cozy the downstairs bar area makes you feel.
It’s a beautiful old building
There was a bit of noise from the bar area that you could hear in our room.
Great location, lovely staff and a fantastic property
Nothing
I stayed at The Crown Hotel in Downham Market for one night in October while completing the North Norfolk Coastal cycling route. Check-in takes place at the bar, where the manager was really friendly, warm, and welcoming. The room was a decent size with a double bed. While the furnishings, carpets, and curtains were a little old, everything was very clean and comfortable. There was a TV, a nice selection of teas and coffees, and a modern, well-fitted ensuite bathroom. The pub downstairs, part of the old coaching house, was a real highlight. It felt like stepping back in time to the days of Shakespeare or Dickens, with a lively community atmosphere and locals chatting happily over a pint with the landlord—a true time capsule. Overall, The Crown Hotel is set in a beautiful historic coaching house with lovely staff and a welcoming atmosphere. While the building has seen better days, it’s clean, full of character, and well worth a visit. I had a pleasant stay and would recommend it.
Some of the fixtures and furnishing need a bit of an update
location
everything suited us fine
We just loved staying at The Crown Hotel in Downham Market! Everything about the hotel was exceptional, from the delicious full English breakfasts, clean rooms with fresh linen, character of the hotel and it's history and it's interesting décor, to the quant hotel bar (which was always busy at night), to the very friendly and helpful owners and staff, our stay exceeded any expectations we had. This is a true English Hotel with character and we will definitely stay there on our next trip to the UK. The location is prefect walking distance to shops, supermarkets, laundromat and cafes and restaurants. We just loved "Henry"!! Just perfect!! :)
We had nothing to complain about - as it is an óld' (1640) English hotel!.
Location was good for town centre
Creaking floors and bed
Really friendly owners, spacious clean room and great breakfast added at a reasonable price
