The view was nice

Loo flush was loose and water continued running . Bedside light didn’t work, stairs were steep and difficult to negotiate especially with luggage, cups too small, couldn’t get a hot drink from the bar when we returned at 22.30,breakfast wasn’t good , swimming in grease. All in all appallingly expensive for what we got

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Zimmer war schön, groß genug und die Lage gut . Es gab genügend Parkplätze, was in England wirklich erwähnenswert ist! Das Frühstück war phänomenal gut im Vergleich zu den anderen 7 Unterkünften die wir hatten .

Das Badezimmer war nicht geputzt, was schade war , denn sonst wäre es unsere beste Unterkunft gewesen, denn das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis war für englische Verhältnisse wirklich gut !

From my room, no 3, there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke from 930-10pm. Assumed it was kitchen staff below smoking outside but didn't see. I was awoken at 6am by doors slamming, assume again it was kitchen staff arriving.

The views are amazing, absolutely stunning. Worth visiting for a drink and some wonderful scenery.

I have mobility issues and asked for the only downstairs room they have. The request was confirmed by the hotel. The room was given to another party and we had to go home because they could only offer a first floor room. I can't manage stairs and there's no lift. Sadly, our whole experience was dire from the start. We were treated with indifference by the supervisor on site, although she did try to contact the guests in the room we thought we were having. My brother, who lives nearby, had recommended the hotel and said how good the food was. He had booked a table and we thought at least we'd have a decent meal before travelling home. The Gods were against us that night. I sent my burnt fish back, only to have it returned to the table saying it was the batter and oil which made it that colour. Sorry but that's rubbish. I have an NVQ in Professional Cooking and I would not have served fish like that. The situation was not dealt with in a sympathetic or apologetic way. It's such a shame, because I had read the great reviews and I was really looking forward to our stay. It was the first break we've had in two years. I had been hospitalised for 3 months and this was my 'test' for future breaks. My brother had eaten at the hotel earlier in the week, and had a great meal. We are waiting to see how the management handle our complaint. The true worth of an establishment is how they deal with criticism. I have yet to find out. Please note that I have been unable to rate a lot of the questions asked in this survey because we didn't stay, so I have used the lower scores.

I was very concerned about the booking when we arrived. Parking facilities were excellant. However, I got a negative first impression because the outside of the property looked very rundown and unkept - broken glass over the decking from the time we arrived to the time we left. Window boarded up. Inside was diffent - the bar was welcoming and the rooms to a very good standard - fabulous bathroom and spacious. Staff very friendly. Food good value for money.

Convenient for Brighton. Parking is limited. However, I didn’t have a problem. Restaurant is spacious and food very good. Service and staff friendly and helpful. Room and hotel was clean.

The bed (for us) was uncomfortable - a combination of pillows and duvet. Fortunately, our room had air conditioning. I believe that not all rooms do. For the price, I think breakfast should be included.

The location was good, 7 minute drive to Brighton seafront. We had dinner at the hotel both nights that we stayed and we have to say the food was excellent, very tasty!. The bed was comfortable and the decor was modern. Staff were friendly and approachable.

I think a little attention to detail with the rooms, their was thick dust on the picture frames, they have a rain shower as well as a standard shower, the standard shower head was too heavy to be put on it’s upright stand and the rain shower wasn’t powerful enough. We were right above the kitchen, we had the windows open because it was a warm night but could then hear the goings on downstairs, we tried to put the air con on so that we could close the windows to make it quieter but it wasn’t working, the lady that works there did try and fix it but wasn’t able to.

Comfortable, clean room and bathroom. Noise from constant traffic at junction a bit intrusive, but appreciate this is not the Hotel's fault! Breakfast was a little disappointing, I asked for poached eggs on toast and received one tiny egg on 1 small slice of thin bread! Also, a shame that no cereal, yoghurt or fruit was offered. 'Pub grub' served at dinner. Good choice offered. Friendly staff, good, helpful service at Dinner.

The door handle of my room was hanging off and the window in the room was very dirty. There was no continental breakfast available despite the menu in the room saying there was - last time I stayed the breakfast was amazing.

Das Zimmer glich einer Sauna, der Raum heiß, das Wasser kalt... Leider funktionierte die Klimaanlage im Zimmer nicht, was vermutlich schön längere Zeit so war, da 2 Ventilatoren aufgestellt wurden. Die Frage, ob wir ein anderes Zimmer bekommen können, wurde natürlich verneint, da die anderen Zimmer für Familen benutzt werden, die zur Zeit nicht anwesend waren. Die Fenster zum Lüften gingen nur 10 cm aufzuschieben, so dass die Abgase von dem außenliegendem Küchenabzug nicht ganz ins Zimmer gelangten... Wir werden hier bestimmt nicht noch einmal übernachten, abgesehen von dem Preis von 166 Euro, ohne Frühstück versteht sich. Vielen Dank ans Downs-Team. Mit freundlichen Grüßen Holger Grun

Mooie ligging met uitzicht op zee

Geen warm water, bleek gevolg van technische storing, maar is ons niets over gezegd, pas toen we er zelf iets over zeiden bij uitchecken. Bed slaapbank niet comfortabel. In informatie over locatie stond een welkomstpakket voor hond vermeld, niet gezien, zelfs geen drinkbak voor de hond op kamer.

The hotel was ideally situated for our trip. Rooms were very nice.

Food was not great. Very little choice at breakfast no juices offered no cereal or fresh fruit. Only toast with full English and then marmalade or jam or honey.

I felt I'd been there before. It was all pretty relaxed and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Parking was perfect as was the location a 10 min. bus ride into Brighton, bus stop outside the Hotel. No hesitation in returning or recommending to friends or family who want a long weekend away. Perfect.

Lovely room with a Seaview, very spacious with everything you need. Located near the bus stop to get in to Brighton. Staff helpful and friendly and great choice of breakfast which was very tasty.

The outside looks a little tired but inside is amazing. It's on a main road so expect a little traffic noise, dud affect us but something to be aware of. Has good windows and air con so you can shut it out.

Breakfast was excellent. Room was clean and comfortable. Great bus service to Brighton and free car parking. Uber would've been about £13 e/w. Great value and staff were efficient and friendly. Had a afternoon meal off the menu which was also tasty and good quality produce.

Enfin un établissement qui mérite le nom d’hôtel dans le campagne anglaise. Avec la climatisation dans les chambres, un petit déjeuner à la carte, un pub sympathique, un équipement moderne et entretenu. Si vous venez en voiture, choisissez le parking de droite, plus accessible pour les valises.

Pas d’eau froide, seulement de l’eau chaude, donc pression insuffisante et impossible d’utiliser la douche, mais je ne doute pas qu’il s’agit d’un problème provisoire. Un peu de bruit venant du pub le weekend, mais jusque 23h30, c’est supportable.

Parking was tricky in the strange shaped car park which leads people to park in silly ways. Extractor fan in the bathroom did not work which meant we had an unintentional sauna.

The Manager was very welcoming and friendly upon our arrival. We were early so the room wasn’t quite ready and he explained how easy it was to get a bus from outside the hotel, straight to the town. When we got back one of the staff showed us to our room (which was a good size, very clean and with a lovely bathroom and shower) and explained how everything worked, i.e. TV, air con as it was very hot the weekend we stayed. All the staff were exceptional, especially the Manager. The food we had that evening in the bar was delicious and our breakfast was also very good. Location was excellent and plenty of free parking onsite.

Early morning drive to the Port made is Hotel ideal for location. The rooms are fabulous, a little quirky the likes of a boutique room for the price this was an excellent stay, I would return and recommend Eve

Great location. Fabulous food. Room 1 has a bit of water pressure issue in the shower but mentioned this to the staff and they manged to do something to sort it after our long hot day out. So test this before you stand starkers in the shower with a drip. But dont be put off its a beautiful room, convenient location and book a table, its definitely a popular pub so gets booked out.

The location was on a busy junctions but the views made up for it. Was a slight concern, being Londoners that it would be noisy all night but it was fine.

The room we had had a huge bath which I loved, as well as a shower. Perfect. Tea and coffee in the room in the room which was great. Bed was very comfortable. Had a good nights sleep.

Outside of building had zero kerb appeal! Felt it was advertised as "a country pub overlooking the South Downs". Technically correct but actually on the corner of a busy main road crossroads. Very shabby exterior. Not a country house hotel as sold but a pub with bedrooms. Granted very nice bedrooms.

Wir haben das Hotel für den letzten Abend vor unserer Abreise aus England gebucht. Ausschlaggeben war die Nähe zu Brighton. Nach einem kurzen Abstecher am Abend nach Brighton sind wir unverzüglich zum Abendessen ins Hotel zurück. Zum Glück. Das Essen war sehr gut. Preis-Leistung waren hier am besten in unserem fast dreiwöchigen Urlaub. Sehr freundliches Personal. Auch das Frühstück war sehr gut.

The chicken wings were awful, not old, ancient! Very disappointing! Gin & tonic + Pint ofGuinness £13.50! Lowest bottle red wine over £30! Not likely to recommend or return, sorry. Honest review.

The room was well furnished and clean but overpriced.

I was in Room 7, which was outside the hotel, external access, and just yards from a very busy road, made worse by the fact that it is a hill, so vehicles (including motorbikes) are revving up in low gears at early hours of the morning, so don't expect a peaceful night's sleep. The lighting in the room was poor; the main toilet flusher did not work; hot water came out of the cold tap for about three or four minutes; the fan in the bathroom took a long time to switch itself off and was very noisy; there were only three coat hangers available. Also, since I last stayed there, they have stopped offering a healthy/continental breakfast option - that was very disappointing.

Downs Hotel is located on a very nice site with beautiful views of the South Downs. It is just a short drive from Brighton and The University of Sussex where we had an event. The staff were very friendly and it was really handy that the hotel has a restaurant on site. The food was good and there was a wide selection of options on the menu. Our beds were really comfortable. We're non-drinkers but there is a pub with a friendly atmosphere for those who like a tipple.

Some wear and tear (e.g. old and tired looking windows/window frames). No shampoo in shower. Tea stains on some of the crockery at breakfast. No biscuits in room even though it said they are provided in the guest book.

Wir hatten ein ganz tolles, neu renoviertes Zimmer ( 6 ) mit einer wunderschönen Aussicht bis zum Meer und allen Annehmlichkeiten die man sich nur vorstellen kann. Das Bad mit Dusche und Badewanne ist ein Traum. Die Betten sind perfekt. Das Frühstück ist ausgezeichnet und auch unser Abendessen war köstlich. Es gibt einen traumhaft schönen Wanderweg entlang von Wiesen und Feldern bis ans Meer und die Marina von Brighton. Bis zum Pier läuft man ungefähr 2 Stunden. Wer nicht laufen möchte, die Buslinien 2 und 22 fahren direkt am Hotel ab.

Nette Unterkunft allerdings direkt an einer Ausfallstrasse. Die Treppe zu den Zimmern ist sehr steil und hat kleine Stufen

The location was sensational as I was working from the Amex stadium which was only a 5 minute car journey away which was more than Ideal. The room was modern, clean, comfortable. There's food options in the bar as well as friendly and welcoming staff. Great overall experience.

Lovely room, had air conditioning, a Nespresso coffee machine, large screen tv, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, luxury toiletries and was beautifully clean. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again.

Freundliches, hilfsbereites Personal. Wir wurden von Rosie herzlich empfangen und sie hat uns bis in das Zimmer begleitet. Dabei hat sie uns alles erklärt und Fragen beantwortet. Sogar das Verhalten im Notfall. Das gute Frühstück ist a la carte. Im hauseigenen Restaurant kann man sehr gut Essen. Parken ist problemlos und kostenlos.

If you’re visiting for the football then this place is perfect. Only 2 miles from the Amex with a £6 return bus service in match days. Our room was very modern, clean and fictional. Also pretty spacious. Only food we had was breakfast but they were top quality with plenty choice. Staff amazing, friendly and helpful. Great vibe to the pub also. Couldn’t recommend enough

Ein sehr schöner Pub. Die Zimmer waren hervorragend und wir haben uns in diesen sehr wohlgefühlt. Das Frühstück war lecker. Wir haben uns für das Hotel als Zwischenstop entschieden, da es in der Nähe der Fähre war und wir nicht nach Brighton fahren und das Hotel kostenlose Parkplätze hatte. Vom Hotel war es auch nicht weit zu den Seven Sister’s.

Eigentlich war alles prima. Am Wochenende hört man die Musik im Pub. Das sollte man wissen, wurde uns aber auch per e Mail vorab mitgeteilt. Das Hotel liegt an einer sehr befahrenen Kreuzung. Durch die Doppelfenster hat man das aber nicht gehört. Das Essen (wir hatten Burger) war ok. Aufgefallen ist uns, dass die Wassergläser auf den Tischen an denen wir gesessen haben, nicht besonders sauber waren.

The only one issue was when entering the property there were quite a few people in the small alcove entrance smoking and they were also crowded around the doorway which unfortunately meant we had to walk through a smoke screen.

Der Manager hat uns über eine junge Angestellte aufgefordert, das wir das inkludierte Frühstück noch einmal zahlen sollen, weil er der Ansicht sei, das wäre nicht im Preis drin gewesen. Haben wir nicht gemacht. Trotzdem ärgerlich.

Easy access. Safe free car park attached. Bus stop opposite, easy catch into Brighton town centre. Co-op store across the road. Room and bathroom refurbished. Little comforts like 2 chairs, small desk, beside lamps plus reading lamps, heated towel racks. Great food, nice people.

Aankomst was iets te vroeg, maar moesten echt wachten. De douche was een groot probleem. Water liep niet weg. Geen andere kamer beschikbaar. Noodoplossing met ontstopper, hielp ook niet echt. Parkeren was voldoende ruimte, maar van te voren werd er op gewezen dat het een probleem zou kunnen zijn. Ontbijt niet goed. Te vet. Dit was een grote tegenvaller. ( Deze vakantie 14 lokaties gehad en deze lokatie was de op 1 na slechtste, helaas).
