Perfect location surrounded by wildlife and close to the beach

This place is stunning, lots of beautiful nature around and really close to the beach. We loved having some space to ourselves, lounging in the hammock and outside space. The air conditioning is nice and cool and the bed is comfortable and clean. It's got a fridge and a little kitchen too, which was great. The owners are so nice and we're there for us whenever we needed them. This has been our best accommodation so far in Sri Lanka. We'll be back on our next visit 💙

We originally booked this place (Freedom Villa), but on short notice, the owner messaged, saying he couldn't fulfil the booking and offered us a room in his other place BREATH HOUSE. With limited options in the area at short notice we basically had to accept. He moved the booking because he got a better booking (longer) on the villa and charged us the same price for the new place. This was really disappointing as we like the secluded nature of this property and instead was basically staying upstairs at his house. The house was also having welding done in several locations, including the balcony right next to our outdoor bathroom. The bed was painful and very springy, possibly some of the most uncomfortable nights that I've ever had.

I had an unforgettable stay at Freedom Villa Hiriketiya. The cabin is absolutely stunning, nestled right in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by monkeys, crabs, and even turtles – a truly surreal experience. It offers a genuine connection to peace and nature, while still providing all the comforts you need, including a kitchen, air conditioning, and a fridge. The host is kind and caring, always making sure everything is perfect. One of my favorite parts was the hammock – I could spend hours lying there, listening to the waves and watching the monkeys swing through the treetops. A magical place for anyone looking to escape, relax, and reconnect with nature. Highly recommended!

Close to the center and the beach. Big room, comfortable bed. Fan and AC. Host was very helpful.

Bit overpriced. We only stayed one night but I guess if you stay longer it is nice to have a small kitchen. It is nice that the house is in the jungle but the place could use a bit of a cleaning up around. Felt a bit abandoned. We were there in June which is low saison so all the places are being fixed at that time. Maybe in the saison the location might be a bit nicer.

The location was great - close to the beach but you also have privacy, lots of wild animals close by, we saw two water monitor lizards (they are massive) and lots of moneys, it was really nice :)

It was loud on Saturday night as there is a bar close by… the music was from 9pm and went on till 2am. It smelt a little of mould in the room, I think it needs to be aired out.

Location is incredible! 50m to the beach ❤️ Bed was huge and very comfortable, the AC works well. Host was helpful and kind.

The kitchen could be a little better equipped. But for our 3 days stay it was enough.

It was quite hard to find the property on maps as the maps couldn't fully identify where it is. I'd recommend the host give a few more details to help direct e.g. pass this restaurant and then turn right

The house has everything needed, a comfy bed, air con, a small kitchen to cook simple menus and a shower with good water pressure. It is located only 2 min from the beach and directly in the jungle. We could see monkeys, leguans and crabs at night, which was very nice and exciting. The host is also very nice, he drove us to a docotor when we needed one and organised our trip to Kandy for a good price. I can definitely recommend this house for nature loving people that want to be close to the beach.

We really liked the location - being right in the jungle despite being just 1 min walk from the beach. We were able to sit and watch the wildlife (lizards, monkeys, turtles) from the hammock and then wander to the beach for a swim. The hammock was really comfy to laze in and the bed was big and perfect for a good night's sleep. We appreciated having a fridge and small kitchen to be able to make a few dishes at home and also found the room to be well equipped (with table, lockable cupboard and a clothes rail). We also loved the delicious local breakfasts made by the hosts.

On one night there was noise from a nearby bar (for a one-off event), but we were able to sleep through it ok with the windows closed.

The location is close to the beach, however it is overlooking the swamps. The road leading to the hut is very rocky. It is a very simple house, pretty pricy for what you get (we stayed in Sri Lanka in similar places for half the price).

We loved our Stay at the Freedomhouse! The Location is just ideal if you want to be on your own and surrounded by nature but also super close (100meter) to the Beach to go surfing or chill and just around the corner to many restaurants and massageplaces! You can also watch some pretty cool animals from the hammock on the terrace. The owners were super kind and polite and checked in on us from time to time. We were even allowed to stay a bit longer before checkin out and got a super friendly taxi driver organised who brought us to Uluwalawa. We loved everything there and would definitely come again!

Cute cottage in the jungle, just one minute away from Hiriketiya beach. A/C is installed and can be used for an additional charge. Monkeys and squirrels roam the area during the day and turtles and crabs in the night. Friendly host!

Beware of the dogs on the beach. One dog bit me, resulting into several trips to the Matara Hospital. But this has nothing to do with the host or the accommodation.

Breakfast was tasty. Hosts were pleasant. Near to beach.

I do not know how this property can be listed as superb on this site - it is the most basic place I have stayed in for a long time.. AC was not available. Furnishings were minimal - no where to put your clothes. Pillows were thin and soft. Property is difficult to access by car, but host did move our bags in his tuk tuk. Overpriced - we have stayed in much nicer places in Sri Lanka for less money.

The location, close to the beach but also in the shade of the jungle. It was also very private and quiet.

The place is very well located. You have a piece of the jungle to yourself, the sea next to you, and places to eat, work and party.

Private home nestled in the jungle across from the river and a 1 minute walk to the beach. Owners were very sweet and gave juice on arrival.

The location is perfect! Only about 50 meters from the beach. We were welcomed with a coconut drink, really nice. The bed is good and FINALLY a soft pillow, really loved that. The room is spacious and has a nice little kitchen. The shower is powerfull. There's a hammock outside, a tap to wash sand off your feet and a line to hang the laundry.

The only thing is that it's quite close to Dots, where they have live music in Tuesday and Saturday. For us it was fine as we could sleep with ear plugs but if you're looking for full quiet, this might nog be the place if you stay during one of these days.

The location was perfect, hidden in the trees by the lagoon but only a minute's walk from the beach. The owners were a delight. They brought me large Sri Lankan breakfasts every morning and cooked a fabulous dinner for me one evening. Lots of wildlife seen from the house including toque macaques and a giant squirrel. Perfect!!

An amazing place, with amazing host(s). The great mixture of utter kindness and helpfulness from Lalitha and his family made my stay fabulous!! It is a great escape, right next to the beach, really nicely priced, and I can only recommend it wholeheartedly!!
