Everything was exceptional. The staff was very attentive and very hospitable. Meeting the owner Tony was a highlight of our whole trip. Such a fun and warm person. He made us feel like we were at home.

Everything was superb, so there was nothing we didn't like.

les lits etaient tres incomfortables , la chambre glauque sans poubelle ,sans chaise .quant au lit d appoint il est la pour la déco car impossible de dormir dedans

La camera e la struttura erano sporche.Non ritengo corretto affidarsi al buon senso degli ospiti paganti per pulire la stanza che era visibilmente sporca ed in disordine.Inoltre anche gli spazi comuni erano privi della normale pulizia che ci si aspetta. Ambiente trascurato,avrebbe un potenziale che viene azzerato dall incuria del proprietario

Allez dans cet hotel est une expérience en soit. Un concept. Bout du bout, et il faut plus le prendre comme ça : on est plus sur de l'auberge de jeunesse que sur un hôtel. Mais quelle ambiance ! Et mention spéciale à l'accueil. Alors personne pour faire le check in (tout se fait sur une tablette dehors) et ça déroute un peu. On a croisé un peu par hasard le patron qui nous a expliqué un peu comment tout ça fonctionnait (quand je dis "un peu", c'est que notre anglais est si mauvais que ça limiter les interactions....). Attention, les lits (pour les chambres économiques) n'ont pas de draps. Il faut soit les louer, soit les avoir avec soit.

Cf. plus haut. Ce qu'on a trouvé sympa pourrait en faire fuir d'autres.

The staff was friendly

My booking said a private bathroom, it was booked as a family room of 5 people and we had one bathroom to 4 rooms on the top floor. Also it was not written clearly there was no bedding as part of our booking.com fee so we had to pay an extra 25 pounds for bedding

L'ancien manoir est très beau. La situation, à côté d'un beau loch, d'un tea room, du cairn gorm est super ! La salle commune est chaleureuse.

Il y a de nombreux petits travaux à faire, mais ça ne gêne pas le séjour.

Camera da letto claustrofobica. Inoltre, abbiamo dovuto pagare cinque sterline per avere le lenzuola, non specificato al momento della prenotazione.

Emplacement très bien, taille de la chambre tout à fait convenable pour 4, l’hôte est accueillant.

La literie n’était pas exceptionnelle, la salle de bain mériterait un coup de neuf.

Once again Forces Manor didn't disappoint as a family we love visiting Forces Manor, seeing Tony & of course Koda the dog. Hopefully we will be visiting again next year. We love the fact that we can chill & kick back in such a lovely place

The location was good.

I booked this property because it presents itself as a 3-star accommodation. Having recently stayed at a Holiday Inn in Scotland that was also rated 3-star, I expected a reasonably similar basic standard. I had read reviews describing this place as decent, low-budget accommodation, so I wasn’t expecting luxury. Unfortunately, I would not stay here again. Here are my main reasons: 1. The family room was not what I expected from the photos. I specifically booked a family room expecting suitable accommodation for a family, including a private bathroom arrangement. The room I received did not appear to match what I had seen advertised. 2. The bathroom was dirty on arrival. There were hairs on the bathroom floor and hair stuck in the shower drain. The toilet had clearly not been cleaned properly either, with urine under the seat and skid marks still in the bowl. This is simply not an acceptable standard when checking into any paid accommodation, regardless of the price. 3. The “private” bathroom was across the passage from our room. This was probably my biggest issue. How is this a proper family-room setup? As a parent, I don’t want my children having to leave the room and cross a communal passage during the night to use the bathroom. Likewise, my wife should not have to walk across a passage in her pyjamas simply to use what is described as our private bathroom. I raised these concerns with Tony, the manager. Initially, he maintained that the bathroom had been cleaned, but from what we found on arrival, it clearly had not been cleaned to an acceptable standard. To his credit, he later inspected it and made an effort to clean it properly, but unfortunately first impressions last. When I questioned why the family room differed from the pictures I had seen, I was told that Booking.com was at fault. Tony also explained that the property operates as a non-profit and primarily serves members of the armed forces and service personnel. I completely respect that purpose.

Tranquilo y buena cocina.

Picked primarily for the location and being ex-forces myself, when I saw this place I just had to give it a try. Travelling on my own for work in the area, this place totally suited my needs. The dining area was like walking back into a military mess room, adorned with military pictures and models and it was a great place to relax in the evenings. Having access to a kitchen area was also great for being able to prepare and cook your own meals. I much prefer this to having no such amenities and being forced to eat out. I stayed in room 12 which was spacious and the bed was comfortable. 4 night stay and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a great place to stay and if you're ex-forces you'll love the vibe.

Shower area was a bit dated and water was slow to drain away from the shower tray meaning you had to either turn off the water periodically or slow the flow to stop it overflowing the tray. It was still a good shower. However, I did read a notice within Forces Manor acknowledging some of these aspects and stating that they were carrying out a series of renovations to these bathroom/shower areas in the coming months. Plenty of recycling bins in the kitchen but strangely no gash (general waste) bin!

Common areas were very pleasant. Kitchen was well equipped and the military library was fascinating. The host was very responsive and quick with settling things. Dog was great

Toilets were a bit dirty, and one of the showers on our floor had no hot water throughout our stay. We had to pay for bedding, which is a first for me. Room was cramped and beds were very small.

Unusual place with a lot of history. Very nice and spacious main area. Property in a good location. Well equiped kitchen. Not bad for a short budget stay.

A bit chaotic and unorganized check-in and check-out, with no comms. General cleanliness could improve, especially the kitchen/common area, as some people wouldn't honor the clear-after-yourself rule. Leaving food in the kitchen was a bit risky, as it tended to "disappear."

Chambre très chère pour ses prestations. Très mauvaise literie (sommier inexistant et matelas très fin !). Rien pour pendre ses affaires dans la salle de bain /douche commune. Pas pratique du tout. Très mauvais rapport qualité/prix Je ne recommande absolument pas !

Het oude huis ziet eruit als een museum en heeft daardoor echt veel charme. Comfortabele en gezellige gemeenschappelijke rumten beneden vond ik heel leuk. Een beetje studentikoos karakter, gemoedelijk en relaxed. Aardige eigenaar/ beheerder. Het is een non profit organisatie voor en door veteranen en dat sprak ons ook wel aan.

Boven waren de kamers wel aan verfrissing toe. De bedmatrassen waren in onze kamer echt op. Het was er wel schoon, maar wel verouderd. Ik hoop echt dat ze weer wat sponsoring krijgen om het één en ander te vernieuwen en te vervangen, want het is een te charmante hostel om daardoor gasten/ klanten te verliezen.

A total wow - comfy , cosy, warm , and a hugely interesting amount of military memorabilia. So many relaxing and comfortable places to sit or eat . An amazing find with an amazing history and creator.

We loved all the big commonrooms, the shared kitchen, the games to play. We loved the interior with all the army displays. We had a lovely stay and felt very welcome. Tony is a really nice guy. Would def recommend if you want to explore the area around Cairngorms.

There is a few small details open for improvement, but we understood that they are already working on making everything more modern.

Supuestamente teníamos baño privado y estaba fuera y sucio. Solo nos dieron sábanas bajeras y almohadas limpias pero los edredones había que cogerlos de una estantería y se notaba estaban sucios. La verdad que fue una noche desagradable

L’ambiance des forces armées est la marque de fabrique du Manor, comme son nom l’indique. Tout le décorum et la chaleur de l’accueil va de pair. La cuisine partagée et les salons sont très bien équipés et on s’y sent bien, comme un invité.

La réservation via Booking des chambres « self-service » ne donne pas autant d’informations que le site (gestion des draps notamment).

Forces Manor was ideal for a group(11) military veterans to come together and catch up, eat, drink and reminisce. The facility caters for the military community both serving and veterans, as its main focus is providing a space where they can be themselves.

The stay wasn’t long enough. We will be booking again for next year with a longer stay in mind. This is not a bad thing.

Bella posizione, cucina grande e ben fornita

Staff assente (non abbiamo incontrato nessuno). Camera mansardata con piccola finestra che si apriva poco quindi molto calda. Alcuni consigli: nella nostra camera non erano presenti asciugamani e lenzuola, abbiamo provato a contattare lo staff tramite messaggio su booking ma senza risposta. Abbiamo scoperto solo la mattina successiva tramite un cartello in cima alle scale che andavano richiesti tramite un numero di telefono e a pagamento.

Accueil chaleureux. Très bon emplacement, tout près du Loch Insh, à 10 minutes d'Aviemore et moins de 30 minutes du Loch Morlich (super plage) et du mont Cairn Gorm. Pub familial a 150 mètres. Cuisine très bien équipée et propre. Grand salon TV avec jeux de société à disposition.

Chambre vieillotte. Literie pas terrible. Joints noirs dans la douche. Une rénovation des chambres et des sanitaires est prévue à partir de septembre 2026, ça devrait être top après !

This is a quirky, well presented place with good self catering facilities in a communal-setting. The owner/manager was always available and incredibky helpful. We loved our stay here. Bonus point for Cpl Kala, head of secrity (owners dog- very cute) The site is aimed at veterans but is open to anyone when it is not used by vets. You need to bring your own bedding/towels, or pay a fee for these. We hadnt realised this (i probably didnt read the instructions properly), but we got help figuring this out so it was not an issue.

Shared shower room and toilet could have been as clean as the individual rooms. Bed was far too soft. Those two improvements I think would improve it massively.

cleanliness is not at all maintained. The place is smelly. The place is good but not well maintained. They dont provide soaps, hand washes,shampoos and dont even mention before.

Bedroom was roomy, bed comfortable. Had access to a very large house and had access to multiple rooms. The lounge was huge and beautiful - got to watch FIFA World Cup on a huge screen! Tony was kind and responsive to emails - great host.

This place is located in a small, quiet, and scenic village with a river just a short walk away. The morning views were beautiful, and having access to a kitchen to cook our own meals was a nice bonus.

There wasn't much to complain about. The only minor issue was that the single beds we booked felt a bit narrow, especially when turning over during sleep.

I loved the notion of a veteran refuge. I can even get behind policing your own area when you leave. I also loved that our dogs got to meet and play with the resident dog, Cuda.

Some folks don’t clean up after themselves. Maybe they don’t honor the honor system.

We stayed for a night, nice house, shared kitchen and lounges to relax.

We stayed in the budget family room. Comfy beds. beddin and towels are provided at a reasonable price. Private bathroom was outside of the room and quite small.

The ethos behind this place is admirable, and the owner was really nice. The shared kitchen is well kitted out (although not clean, and we had no idea there was one, this needs to be listed more explicitly). Good location for walking Speyside Way, but please see other comments for down sides...

Our room was not clean - there was dried toothpaste in the unwashed sink, and dirt on the shelves above it. The floor(s) didn't appear to have been hoovered. The shared facilities (toilet + shower) were in very poor condition: dirty, shower curtain too short so floor flooded when used, gaps in the laminate flooring. The old towels shed bits of fluff onto everything. The kitchen was not clean, and had things like paints and solvents and DIY kit in it. No clear system for food storage, so there were mouldy foods on shelves. Messy library space with vacuums and boxes everywhere. I hate to be so negative, and do appreciate what the place is aspiring to, but it was well below the standard of a hostel, especially for that price. We were really disappointed.

Great place if you are looking for a quick place to stay. Understand the key target audiance is young travelers and the armed forces from time to time. We had booked the budget rooms unknowingly for our family. The shared bathrooms and toilets were well maintianed and clean. However the toilet had no lock to lock it from inside. Would really appreciate if its fixed. Has a huge kitchen to cook, if you plan to cook food. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely recommend if you are just looking for a place to sleep at night

Tony heeft gezorgd voor een heel warm ontvangst. We voelden ons heel welkom en op ons gemak. Forces Manor is een heel mooi initiatief en een gezellig onderkomen op een prachtige locatie aan de Cairgnorms. Het huis is heel gezellig en om te wandelen zit je meteen in de bergen.

Niet overal even hygiënisch. Maar zeker oké!

Nedostatočná čistota. Nepovysávaná podlaha, špinavé postele, prach. Kuchyňa by si zaslúžila deep cleaning. Majiteľ mal psa, ktorý mal prístup do kuchyne a k odpadkom, ktoré aj následne rozniesol po priestoroch.

Brudno i ciasno. Dwie osoby ciężko miały żeby się minąć w pokoju. Kurz na wentylatorze w łazience miał chyba dobrych parę lat.

El dinning room estaba bien y hay parking para el coche.

La habitación (que se supone que era de militares y que en booking no lo pone) que cogimos no incluía sábanas ni toallas, nos dieron únicamente una bajera y una toalla de la lavandería que encima olían mal. Además nos quisieron cobrar 5£ por persona por ello. Estaba la habitación sucísima, las almohadas con restos de sangre u otra cosa parecida. Además te “invitaban” a limpiar la habitación. El baño enano, casi no podíamos ni girar en nosotros mismos además de sucio con manchas de orina y pelos por todos lados. Además sin gel ni champú ni nada. La cocina muy sucia también.

Nous avons loué une chambre économique. Je ne savais qu’économique signifiait dégoûtant. La chambre est terriblement sale, ainsi que les parties communes (toilettes, salle de bain), la moquette n’a pas été nettoyée depuis des année. Veillez à brûler vos chaussettes qui ont malheureusement dû la toucher. Il y a des trous dans le plafond, la poussière et les poils furent nos colocataires, la moisissure autour des fenêtres nous a empêché de dormir correctement. Dans l’annonce, il était indiqué que nous pouvions utiliser la cuisine, mais ce ne fut pas le cas. Le propriétaire l’avait privatisée pour un groupe et bien sûr il ne nous avait pas prévenu. Lorsque nous sommes arrivés, il nous a informé que les draps n’étaient pas compris dans le prix mais nous en a finalement fait cadeau (5 livres normalement). Mais vu l’état des chambres, ce fut une véritable angoisse de dormir dans ces draps. Je ne parle pas de l’odeur dans la chambre… Je n’avais qu’une hâte : fuir. Aux futures victimes : je vous souhaite bien du courage.
